responded to Hawking Hills State Park after reports that a woman had been struck by a falling tree or log upon arrival they found 44-year-old Victoria Schaefer deceased at the scene nearby lay a 75lb 6-ft log that had struck her in the head killing her instantly as she was taking photographs of high schoolers for their senior portraits firefighters examined the log and noted that it was old with cut ends suggesting it had not not Fallen naturally as they secured the area above they found similar logs on the ground and several sets of footprints with these findings

the death was ruled suspicious and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources requested assistance from the hacking County Sheriff's Office Witnesses reported seeing two or three teenage boys fleeing from the top of the cliff just after the log fell a break in the case came when a local mother called the tip line reporting that her daughter had received a text from a friend who had admitted he had quote done something serious at the park with another kid this tip LED detectives to two suspects 16-year-olds Jordan Buckley and Jaden churches investigators arranged interviews with both teens beginning

lives over by CVS like kind of back there there's like there's apartments that are like all brick apartments and back there and it's like on that road I don't know what the road's called behind CVS CVS it's kind of like behind CVS but it's farther down more towards Burger can but it's like in the middle of there but on the far back so you was there anybody else um no any family no it was just us we were just walking around bored so we were like let's going a hike and we just went on a

hike where did you hike at um well first we started going down we went like down and I don't playing you know when you go down you cross the bridge and you go up so you so you was at Old Man's Cave yeah we were at Old Man's Cave that's where we went and then when we went there nothing was happening but we went up like on the back side of the hill and then we came back back because some guy told us that some woman got smashed by a branch so we turned around and

we went down towards the bottom part and then we came back up and there was a bunch of like EMS people running past us and sirens and everything really yeah so we just left so if you was at Old Man's Cave I'll draw you a picture um see you got over here's the visitor center right yeah all right then you have have the trail going down through here yeah all right and then you met the stairs going down yeah and it goes down through here it goes down and then there's the P like yeah Bowl

down there m and then there's a bridge right is that what you're talking about is this the bridge that goes across this way or the one that or the one that just goes this way cuz we crossed the bridge but we didn't go up that hill we just came back and then we this complicated I don't know I don't know how that exactly explain it so like where the visitor center is you go right here and then we went this way like we went towards where so you come back up on top of the yeah

we were on top and then some guy came up to us I don't know who it was it was an african- american guy had long dreads and he came up to me and he said don't go that way and then I asked him why and he said a branch fell down and smash some woman and I said a branch she said yeah like a tree branch fell off so we went down and then we walked down the stairs and we were going down on the bottom part you know where you go down so you did

so you was over here in the corner yeah we were like all the way we didn't walk very far it was like halfway when we ran into that dude so here's the visitor center in that trail then it goes over in here yeah right and cliffs right here seat right here yeah and you're like walking right up along the cliff yeah yeah and you can look over could you see anything down here no not but I'm right even got stairs and it goes down through here stairs like a tunnel mhm all right so then what

happened that's basically it we just after we went down there we me and Jaden were walking ahead of them and we were further down and we just walked all the way down that trail on the bottom part this is when we went back down and we just came back and just went we were bored we bored yeah we were just bored at all we when I went there nothing really happened I nothing really happened like nothing happened we were just walking around that day and then that guy came up to us and said that what

that uh it was like a Motorola Fone but I have no idea what it is I lost it what kind of phone was it like an Android or yeah it's an Android it's like what do you call it when you buy minutes at the dollar storeone no it's prepaid yeah a prepaid phone that's what it was phone number uh I didn't have a phone number I didn't use it for minutes I just it was just like a Wi-Fi phone basically until I got any phone did you ever use it as a phone uh no I

it after I got my new phone because I stayed at my sister's house and once I got a new phone my sister's girlfriend phone broke so I let her use that phone and Jake said it was fine and now I have no idea where it is so she has it somewhere when'd you get your um I don't know like three weeks ago I think I'm not sure I've asked my mom did you take pictures with your phone that day um I didn't have my phone that day you're Mur did one of you l oh no

we don't even have any pictures of me on the wall because I W let my mom take pictures of me I skip school pictures last year me a when you was at Hocking that day remember what you was wearing or um I had white vans on like all white Vans but they Vans like these yearses but they were all white like all of them were white and they had strings on and I think I was wearing uh Gray shirt but I don't know I think I had a Nike CH on it and I had jogers

on how about your friend what was they wearing that thing Jaden had jeans on I think he had Vapor Maxes on okay I'm going bet I don't know what Vapor Maxes are I'm sorry Nik they're Nike Vapor Maxes and just got a black shirt on I think and I no I left my hat in the car I had a hat I didn't wear it because it was hot it's a great t-shirt yeah sweats yeah white Sho mhm what' you call his name PS B yeah E A NS off the wall you know what is I'm

I'm old I know but I'm around the kids Red Wings are no see these are red are do you both have so you guys was all up there on top then uh with to the bottom part when when did all the commotions start uh well I didn't even know what was going on until that guy came up to me and then when we went down we saw a bunch of like EMS people walking by us and stuff and then the further we got down the more we saw like people over in this one area foring

and then everybody just moved so we just left where did you go um I can't really explain it about being there like showing you like so did Center yeah we just left we went back to the visitor center and Da Car left but where we went on the top part there's like this little like Metal Bridge part do you know what I'm talking about yeah and that's where we turned around that's where that guy came up to us and told us to stop and don't go that way this uh right M what you uh skinny

like really skinny probably like almost my height always wor hair back in braids color hair uh Brown like a dark brown what was she wear um I think she had a white crop top on and she had leggings on Rock leggings I don't know what type of shees she had on all right so Jordan M I want you to be honest with me okay yeah um te Robertson you've been doing this long time I've been doing this for a long time I've worked for the state 22 years okay MH before we come in here we've

kicked it and it rolled off the cliff and it made a loud bang so we ran and we ran into Miranda and AJ they had no idea we didn't tell this happened that log yeah it's that long that long mhm he just kicked it he didn't pick it up push it or anything he just kicked it how big was it um like this big probably this wide where did he kick it from was like on over a clear part and like the far back part and it was on this part it was and then here's

the cliff it was like right here K it like right there to right here and it like rolled down the hill I don't know if he I wasn't like paying attention to what he was doing so I don't know if he intentionally kicked it or if he like stumbled on it did he pick it up first and carry it no he did pick it up at all cuz I saw him how he get on the other side tree I have no idea say Jordan here before we come in here we already have our answers right

mhm so that log that you just pointed to me mhm all right was laying right here there was a pile of them right yeah there a tree here two of them remember those there is a tree on this side and it was in between these trees it was lay like this and then he kicked it so which way did he kick it from this is going to be the Cliff's Edge oh so they're saying this is the Cliff's Edge this is Cliff's Edge so the log was right here put draw on tree right here tree

the trees when he kicked it and it just rolled down okay so these two these are two big trees right here mhm those two big trees are laying down they're laying on the ground these logs was over here on the ground so if he kicked it he's going to hit this tree I didn't even know there was trees on the ground did you guys pick it up and carry it across you guys jacking around I didn't pick it up and I didn't see him pick it up as far as he told me he kicked it

where was you at when he what was you doing when he was I was messing around I was behind him cuz before that we were like standing on branches and like hanging on him but they were farther back I wasn't near Cliff when I was doing that and I was just like bouncing on them mhm and because before that there was this branch that came off and I hung on it over this like Bridge thing and it bounced me up but it wasn't it didn't fall up so it was fine and then I walked back

over and I just kept doing that cuz I was bored and then I heard a loud bang and he started running so I ran with him and he told me he kick the log off hear any screaming I didn't hear any screaming and then but we ran back we turned around and that guy came up to us and said that to us the the black dude the black guy come up and said he yeah he said not to go that way okay so before uh before you guys kicked the log off was you guys throwing

rocks and sticks and everything no never threw anything was kicking anything off nobody yelling M are you sure yeah 100% sure you been this on TV pH what the story on TV you seen anything on TV social media I haven't seen anything about it nothing you don't even know what happened that no I just didn't acknowledge any of it you didn't acknowledge anything of yeah I just didn't like think anything of it so you know why what happened not really you have no idea not really so when you sent a text to your girlfriend at

the time I mean yeah I got well I knew what happened but I didn't know what happened to cause that like completely what happened like I was there with my friends but I wasn't the one that did it and I know that it killed the woman when it fell down on her and I heard the loud bang and I saw Jaden run and I was running with Jaden so why didn't you why didn't you call 911 why didn't you do anything cuz I was freaking out and I thought I was going to get in trouble

for it okay and I didn't want to get charges press against me for like involuntary manslaughter or something so you have researched this no I just know a lot because I've been in trouble with CPS before and it's not fun so I tried to like not even like deal with it at all so you just wanted to block it out yeah basically like never happen you and Jaden talked anymore about this nope yeah didn't make a pack and say hey man never going to say anything you got to keep this a secret well yeah we

did say that that's why I told you that story but then after I realized the severity of it I could get in a lot more trouble for his like his actions if I'm the one not doing anything but and I don't want that to happen and I don't think Jaden even told anybody and Bailey was the only person I told about this m so was she the one that told you guys this no there's been several people he must have obviously you what crun sto are press we had press releases we had all kinds of

stuff people going in people seen you what you ask you about what clothes you was wearing was it right is that what people said I was wearing I was wearing gray American Eagle joggers they were dark gray and I had white bands on and I had a gold actually I still have a chain on me I had this chain I took this off last it's irritated my neck I had this on and just like that remember how I asked you about pictures yeah everybody that comes to the Hocking Hills takes pictures and God of pictures

well I didn't take any pictures cuz that had a terrible camera like if the camera on that phone was terrible and the battery died really fast cuz it was like a cheap phone so I just really didn't use it that much but I don't know if Jaden took any pictures come on that's your buddy I made a pack you guys this I don't know if he took any pictures like I show any pictures tell anything I took one picture on Miranda's phone before but it wasn't my phone it was on Miranda's and J it was

and we turned around and kept just started walking back there we didn't think anything of the log we didn't think it was going to hurt anybody like we just thought he just take the log off and it was loud so um after that that guy came up to us told us not to go that way so we turned around went all the way down and then wa towards like we just so when you go down you get down the stairs through that cave thing and come around through that other cave you go down and it's

like that and we kind of stop like right around there and you see what happened no like I saw where everybody was going but I didn't see anything like the log or anything I didn't see anybody over there I just saw a bunch of EMS like on our way walking back out the EMS came down past us and that's when we left cuz we got scared see any firan I didn't see any fir when we walked by it was just a bunch of EMS lights what do you think are like EMS what Mak someone EMS

and not fire like ambulances was there was like four ambulances right beside with all their lights on but they weren't like their sirens were on but their lights were on okay so did you actually see a pair of bags yeah they were carrying a bag it wearing all black and they walked by us there was two of them there was a girl and a guy and then after that me and Jad made a pack not to tell anybody about this and um cuz I was tipped off already that this was going to happen but I

didn't like I was someone told me that Bailey told you guys about all this so he told you this Ain yeah he's not doing anything wrong so told me he he heard biley say my and he told me so I what was his name but he didn't know what it was about he has no idea what any of this is about and I kind of don't want him to know about any of this but he told me that Bailey was talking to Campbell about me and was going to tell me but I didn't get to

him yesterday in the parking lot that's what I said so you called him yesterday that was it yep that's the last time I talked to you Jen so yesterday you guys talked to each other on the phone he told him that you going to take the fall for him but but I wasn't going to tell them straight away but only if they ask me about it okay anything else you hiding no this is serious yeah I know I know I realized CU someone died exct something that we were doing just messing around being stupid she

down the hill so so I there's a difference between kicking and throwing I didn't see which one I didn't see which one he did did he say that he threw it or did he kick it I think he said I'm going to throw it off he's going to throw it I think he did say I'm going to throw it off and cuz it bounced if he would have kicked it it wouldn't have rolled it bounced it bounced and went off right is this where it's coming down Cliff it would have bounced right here bounced right

mom to go there and show you I think that would be an excellent idea I actually want to do that so I can get all this cleared up and I will take a a DNA test and everything and if it comes down to it I'll take a light detector test and prove that I had nothing to do with causing any of this and even though I was involved I should have said something but I didn't cuz I kind of freaked out and how old are you I'm 16 I just turned 16 last month months so

anything until afterwards and it was VPN yeah so I can get on Snapchat the internet the internet block Snapchat but she s access yeah yeah they have ways around it well she sent me a screenshot of it cuzz she freaked out and this is what caused me to freak out and cuz she knew about it but she didn't like she wasn't inv did you guys I asked you earlier if you discussed it I did we did discuss it she made us discuss it with her in the car and then she kicked us out of her

car but she just told me that she uh she didn't have anything to do with it though like she wasn't not following me so later on she sent you a picture of this yeah to show me that the woman died that's all she was sh me she wasn't texting me about anything or asking me what happened she was just telling me like look there it is that's what she sent me so it says from Channel 10 it's a wbns so we do have to support the individuals and we have a description of the individuals we

on top of the section above where the incident happened he said yeah that's the only thing that she warning you about this this was the day that it happened when she sent me that and that's the last time she texted me about this and I haven't even went to that website I didn't like go to it at all or anything this is from all yeah cuz this is all I've ever seen about anything that happened and that's all I knew was this I didn't research it or anything I didn't look it up cuz I just
