so we know that sam raimi's doctor strange in the multiverse of madness is coming our way very very soon but one of the most interesting aspects of the amazing trailer that just dropped at the super bowl was the fact that the illuminati seemed to be making their way to the marvel cinematic universe you're likely questioning who or what the illuminati is well frat not my friends because that's what i'm here today to help you with as i'm jewels this is whatculture.com and this is the illuminati in the mcu explained and what to expect number 10

the comic book roots so like so many things in the mcu to date the illuminati has its roots deep within the pages of marvel comics while a group such as the avengers have been around since 1963 in the comic world the illuminati is a more recent creation to be precise it would be july 2005's new avengers number seven where the team first loosely came together created by brian michael bendis and steve mcniven the illuminati joined forces in the aftermath of the cree skrull war which caused absolute chaos and carnage on earth realizing this war could

have been prevented certain superheroes got together to propose what is essentially a secret united nations type organization designed to help stop such threats from rearing their head in the future the initial meeting of the illuminati takes place in wakanda with black panther present to represent that nation neymar representing atlantis black bolt representing inhumans iron man representing avengers professor x representing mutant kind mr fantastic representing the fantastic four and doctor strange in attendance due to his role as the all-powerful sorcerer supreme 9 the rocky beginnings rather than tony stark merely getting a bunch of fellow heroes

together and all immediately agreeing with stark's plans there was instead initially a major amount of pushback towards old shellhead's ideas from his cohorts sowing the seas for what would eventually be the civil war story arc a year later tony believes that superheroes need to be governed and that's what he thinks the illuminati should be doing for neymar he balks at stark's proposal of governance due to how certain superheroes operate as aggressive outsiders in the case of professor x he doesn't want heroes to have to face the kind of hatred that he and his mutants have

at times faced as for mr fantastic reed richards questions how viable it realistically would be to run such an organization for doctor strange he believes that such governance would go against the anti-establishment fundamentals of some others while black bolt remains as quiet as ever over these matters black panther goes one step further and outright refuses to participate in any of these illuminati plans in t'challa's eyes such an arrangement will eventually lead to selfish self-serving actions from those running the group still iron man neymar black bolt mr fantastic professor x and doctor strange do at least

agree to secretly meet in the future to exchange information number eight cutthroat decisions in their minds the illuminati are always making the correct decision for any situation thinking of the greater good and serving as the moral compass of any issues that rear their head unfortunately for the hulk though he was viewed as one such issue as part of the lead into 2006's planet hulk storyline the illuminati boldly decided to exile the hulk into outer space after the jade giant had caused a heap of destruction in las vegas following a gamma bomb explosion the illuminati used

a life model decoy of nick fury to trick hulk up the stairs to supposedly fix a troublesome satellite once in that satellite the device turned into a vessel that shot the world breaker after what was intended to be an unpopulated planet getting lost on the way to that planet the ship instead landed on the ravaged war planet of sakaar which is where we find the mcu's iteration of bruce banner doing his thing in thor ragnarok while it looks like any such exiling of the hulk is off the table for now in the mcu this is

just one prime example of the sort of cutthroat decisions that the illuminati have been known to make number seven is this a secret invasion setup in the comics secret invasion was a huge crossover event that ran through the second half of 2008 but the origins of that tale actually date back a few years prior with the illuminati having accidentally played a pivotal role in putting the events of that story into motion shortly after covertly forming the illuminati decided to send out a loud and clear warning to the scrolls to do this that involved taking a

trip to the scroll home world in order to make their intentions known that earth would not tolerate any such further attacks of course that didn't work out all that well and our heroes wound up being captured and separated with their abilities nullified iron man and company were studied and analyzed as the scrolls learned about their powers that the alien race would later use in the battle during secret invasion that secret invasion arc would find a number of earth's heroes replaced by shape-shifting scrolls and the rest were left struggling to know who to trust as for

the marvel cinematic universe we already know that a six-episode disney plus secret invasion series is underway at the end of 2022 could maze doctor strange in the multiverse of madness be used as part of the setup for that show it definitely seems like a possibility number six the cabal despite often coming across as self-righteous arrogant [ __ ] at times the illuminati is in theory a group of heroes whose intentions are meant to serve the betterment of earth and its inhabitants following secret invasion though comic book readers got to see an all-out villainous spin on

such a team brought together by the ever nefarious norman osborne a group known as the cabal was formed in a similar mould to the illuminati consisting of osborne and his fellow supervillains dr doom loki the hood emma frost and neymar with the submariner famed for how he's flitted from hero to villain over the decades the idea behind the cabal was for these rogues to meet in secret to exchange information and help each other out of course villains being villains the cabal didn't last long for all involved we're actually scheming against one another as they look

to get one over on their cohorts while it certainly looks like the illuminati is coming to the fort in doctor strange in the multiverse of madness it may well be that a take on the cabal likewise makes its way into the mcu at some point down the line number five what will the mcu illuminati look like the doctor strange in the multiverse of madness trailer shown at the end of spider-man no way home was all kinds of brilliant showcasing some of the sheer insanity that would be showcased in sam raimi's upcoming picture but now with

new multiverse of madness footage debuting in the super bowl there's even more to be excited about in this trailer the major takeaway for longtime comic fans was that the illuminati are soon to become part of the mcu law with strange escorted by ultram bots yes ultron bots to a grand throne room in this super bowl trailer audiences were left in shock at hearing the dulcet tones of what is clearly sir patrick stewart's charles xavier with that professor x proclaims we should tell him the truth with the wii indicating xavier is referring to a group of

people there appears to be six seats in front of benedict cumberbatch's master of the mystic art here with only a shoulder of xavier visible in this footage speculation is rampant that professor x will be joined by a range of heroes from neymar to black panther to black bolt to mr fantastic to baron mordo to captain marvel to captain peggy carter to nova to the human torch to the superior iron man i mean there is so many to choose from and yes i did say superior iron man because number four how dead heroes could also be

included for those wondering superior iron man is an alternative evil version of tony stark when the axis storyline switched the leanings of the marvel comics heroes and villains the good becoming bad and the bad becoming good the sinister stark managed to remain villainous after outsmarting a spell that reverted personalities back to normal this superior iron man was cruel clinical calculated and even went as far as releasing an extremist 3.0 virus into the world via a mobile app from this new multiverse of madness footage some are speculating that the glowing flying figure briefly glimpsed is actually

that of the old world tony stark and not just any old world tony stark but a variant of stark who is the nefarious superior iron man another hero some claim to see in this new trailer is the silhouette of black panther but given how chadwick boseman tragically passed away in 2020 at just the age of 43 this november's black panther wakanda forever will look to honor bozeman's t'challa in a way that won't see the role recast won't see cgi used to replicate the actor's likeness and will instead focus on the world culture and other characters

of wakanda with the concept of the multiverse though as seen in spider-man no way home another world's black panther doesn't have to be played by chadwick boseman so if marvel studios really wanted the king of wakanda back on screen the multiverse would allow them to do just that in this doctor strange sequel number three those tom cruise rumors as fans we love a good old dollop of rumor and innuendo and one huge piece of speculation coming out of this multiverse of madness footage is that tom cruise will be playing none other than superior iron man

now what is this speculation based on well in reality just a blurry shot of a glowing figure flying who depending on how much you squint may or may not have a goatee oh and reported leaks from the film in a fun piece of trivia cruz was actually in line to play the armored avenger years ago with attempts made to get an ironman film up and running as far back as 1990 the late 90s saw cruz show interest in producing and starring in a big screen tony stark offering to the point that he himself commissioned stan

lee and irobot's jeff vinter to work on a script for that movie there were tentative talks with the mission impossible star later down the line ahead of iron man finally hitting the silver screen in 2008 at this time cruz was reluctant to commit to the role as alluded to though there's zero confirmation right now that tom cruise is in doctor strange in the multiverse of madness or that any variation of tony stark is in this film still that hasn't stopped the speculation of this running wild number two a moniker rambo spotting while some shots of

the aforementioned glowing flying figure look to show what appears to be a male with a goatee other shots of a similar presence have found speculating that monica rambo is involved in the action appearing in disney plus's one division monica is an agent of sword who develops her own powers by the end of that miniseries that wasn't the first time that the character had appeared though as we saw a younger version of monika in 2019's captain marvel there monica was shown to idolize her mother's best friend carol danvers with the options of variants very much on

the table in doctor strange in the multiverse of madness some are also suggesting that the figure shown battling scarlet witch in this trailer is actually an alternate version of monica's mother maria in the main mcu canon maria died of cancer while her daughter was absent due to the blip caused by thanos infamous finger snap in avengers infinity war due to the multiverse though this could be another character other than either moniker or maria taking it to wanda maximoff number one what is the illuminati's role the quote heard round the world your desecration of reality will

not go unpunished that is a line spouted by baron mordo during the latest trailer for doctor strange in the multiverse of madness from what we've seen so far it appears his meddling with the multiverse has had strange taken to the illuminati the larger question is though will this group be friends or foe to the master of the mystic arts some believe that the mcu illuminati is made up of heroes from multiple dimensions others believe that the group will be the villains of the film driven forward by an erratic all-powerful tom cruise version of iron man

and then there are those that think the illuminati will be there to help doctor strange stop a certain other threat depending on what you believe one rumor is that the other threat in question is actually elizabeth olsen's wonder maximoff this is purely speculation right now but some purported leakers claimed that scarlet witch is the main villain of this doctor strange sequel with her scouring the multiverse to be reunited with vision and her two sons and the illuminati come to strange's assistants to help him stop her ultimately it remains to be seen the exact role of
