You need a hobby. The truth is, everyone needs a hobby. When we are children, we play, there are games.
Those are very important for the child to develop, to relax and have fun. The adult is the same thing, but then we call it a hobby. And I'm a really big advocate of hobbies, because if we put all our energy, for example, into work and one day we get fired, or anyway, you see that that's not you anymore, what's left?
Nothing. If we put all of us into a single relationship and that ends, what's left? We need something of our own and that's why I really believe that hobbies are so important because it's a way of self-care, of self-love for us to really develop, we learn a lot while we're creating something.
Even if the purpose is not to learn anything, just for fun, it's reason enough. But sometimes what happens is that we don't even know what we like. We start and then stop, we get sick of it, we feel lazy.
And no problem, that's what should be said more. It's all trial and error. Life is about this, you're going to try, you're going to experience that.
Maybe you like it or maybe you don't. And you don't need to take it so seriously either. Hobbies are supposed to be fun.
So you don't have to make a career out of it, it's not about doing forever. But as long as it lasts, as long as you want. That's why I have this channel.
And very important: If one day you turn your hobby into work, find another hobby. But for today I'm here to help you in this quest, for who knows, showing 30 activities, perhaps you find one that really inspires you, that you want to try, that you think might be like you, you know? Something for you to call your own.
Well, as this is a creativity channel I will be focusing on more creative and artistic hobbies, but of course there are thousands more things like sports and cooking, gardening, learning languages. But anyway, today I want to get away from the basics and bring some very specific hobbies. For those who know how to inspire and awaken your imagination and creativity.
So let's go! NUMBER ONE: Sculpture in clay. Clay is what we call this, it's basically Play Doh for adults.
It's a professional clay that I learned at an art event called Utopia. I saw it being used for the first time and it's a lot of fun. You can make whatever shape you want, that's the look and color of it.
And so you can model characters, for example. NUMBER TWO: 3D Modeling. There is a software that is super trendy called Blender, it is free, you can also find a lot of tutorials here on the internet, and it seems to be a lot of fun.
I'll leave reference photos here. This is a hobby I still want to try out. NUMBER THREE: Making wire rings.
Lea, who traveled with me, made these rings for me and I saw her making this one at the time. It's also super trendy on Tik Tok, I see a lot of videos. I already bought the wires, I'll do it, it looks very relaxing.
And you also have rings at the end. FOUR: Create a retro-illuminated paper diorama, this is it. I know, I know I've owed a tutorial for years.
I did not forget. I carry this burden all this time. There are 1001 types of dioramas, this one is what we call backlit because we put a light back here.
I love cutting paper. FIVE: Making candles. If you can go to one of these craft stores, then you buy the base, right, which is wax.
You buy the essence, the scent that the candle will have, the dye to add color and the mold to make the shape. And so you can melt, mix, put the wick and that's it! You will have a candle.
SIX: Designing clothes. Fashion design is something I've done here as a hobby on the channel, now I want to learn more professionally. I'll leave the link down here if you want one of these files to actually design your clothes.
SEVEN: Writing stories. This can be in various formats, as if it were a book, a novel, or even short stories, short stuff or a children's book. I've done a bit of everything, the last one I wrote was a musical, because I really wanted to find out if I could write a musical, so I wrote it!
And it's called Red & Blue. And it's based on songs by my favorite singer named Jorja Smith. This art is by my friend Eduardo, who you might have already seen here on the channel, @costajulior, I would like to give credit.
So when I say I have a lot of hobbies, I really have a lot of hobbies. Still in that same vibe, EIGHT: Writing poetry. It's something I like to do too, it doesn't mean I'm good.
I think this is a big mistake that comes with hobbies, is that we have to be good at it. No, not here! It's about exercising, doing it because you like it.
NINE: Create makeup face charts, which are these faces here, which is basically doing a painting, put makeup on the paper. There's also a video of it here on the channel. TEN: Making pottery.
I learned this here in college, I fell in love with the process. But it's a little more complicated than the others because you need an oven for that, because it has to be super powerful. But you can possibly find a studio in your city, someone who already has the oven to do this and who can even teach you, anyway, I think it's not hard to find.
Ceramics have been around for centuries in humanity. And it's really cool too, plus you get utensils, dishes, whatever you create. ELEVEN: Sewing clothes.
This can either mean starting from the design and sewing from scratch or using patterns, or you can do what I've been learning at the moment which are Thrift Flips, which is basically take an old outfit from the thrift store or that you already have and transform it, sew to make it more like you want. So this is something I'm starting to venture into and intend to do more. TWELVE: Make collage.
Of course I had to bring this here, it's one of the things I do the most personally. You can do both analog as I have here, and digital. Both ways are super fun.
Honestly, there's not much room for mistakes. Collage, I think it's a super, like, good thing for beginners. THIRTEEN: Photographing.
Nowadays it's such a common thing that I think sometimes you forget the power it has, that it's also an art form. So who knows, if you like it, it can be digital as well as analog cameras. Which is a different process, it has more manual aspects.
FOURTEEN: Writing music. Again: it doesn't have to be good, who ever? Have you tried?
I've already tried and that's a difficult thing to do. I think it's also well related to poetry. Or if you already have a level above and are, like, literate in music and know how to compose, who knows, compose the whole song, melody, lyrics, everything.
FIFTEEN: Assemble Paper Toys. This is something that I feel I haven't brought to the channel yet but I think it's really cool, you find a lot of these paper toys on Pinterest, on the internet in general. I did one that I don't have here because it got crumpled up in my move, which was a mini French theater.
It was really a toy they had in the past, which was to set up these paper theaters. I'll leave it linked down here if I find the file too. Just print and assemble.
SIXTEEN: Knitting. What used to be seen as a craft for old ladies, maybe for you it still is, but it isn't! Because at Tik Tok it's also super trendy and it's really cool, there's a lot of people making various outfits and cute stuff.
SEVENTEEN: Create crowns. Very specific. Very peculiar.
But in case you are interested, I have several videos here on the channel. I make these crowns using jewelry materials. So I buy these metals already made, and then I turn them into a crown.
EIGHTEEN: Image manipulation in Photoshop. I would even call it a form of digital collage, but it doesn't always look like a collage, so that's why I wanted to put it separately. I'll leave here examples of some photos of an IG I like a lot, which is a family that they make these super creative photos, all in Photoshop.
And here in Brazil, Camila also has the same vibe, amazing photos. The idea is to actually use this Photoshop tool to create something totally new, a real art. NINETEEN: Create a terrarium.
If you like plants and also like creativity, you can create these mini scenes by mixing these two worlds. These here are my sister who made them, I'm going to leave some pictures of some that she has already made because she made them and I didn't know how to take care of them. TWENTY: Crochet.
I don't know about you, but for me I have the impression that crochet is really something in Brazilian culture. I feel it is a very common craft, at least in my family, my mother, my grandmother, they all know how to crochet. It was a very common thing for women to learn.
I haven't learned it yet, but I want it out of curiosity, not as an obligation like in the past. TWENTY-ONE: Learning to sing. Or if you already have confidence or don't want to learn, just sing.
I feel like it's a wonderful hobby, at least for me, I find it very therapeutic. I love doing this and the good thing about taking classes is that I'm really discovering the right way to use my voice. And it's an instrument, it's literally an instrument that has a whole technique you can learn and maybe one day I'll get there and gain confidence in my hobby.
But for now, it's only a hobby. TWENTY-TWO: Making Rugs. This one I also discovered on TikTok and I was amazed, it seems to be very relaxing, very pleasant.
You use this needle gun. Sometimes they do it by hand, I see it can be done manually, and sometimes it's really a pistol, like that, and they make really cool rugs. TWENTY-THREE, is also super trendy: Creating unique jewelry.
Necklaces, bracelets. I think it's a very common thing, you may have already done it in your childhood, perhaps. I sure did a lot when I was young.
Now it's trendy, lots of people wearing it. I am very much in favor of us making our accessories ourselves. TWENTY-FOUR: Learn choreography or, maybe, just dance in your room.
It's also something I love and overpractice. Besides, it's super good for the body. TWENTY-FIVE: Making a Tunnel Book.
There's also a video showing this on the channel, this is an example of a tunnel book, another kind of art made with paper. Just cutting and pasting. You can do a lot of cool stuff, I'll leave it linked down here.
TWENTY-SIX: Create multimedia art or mixed media, as it is known on the internet. This one is an example that I made, basically, like, multimedia means using many different types of materials. So here I even have spackling paste, old straws, old buttons, there's a bit of everything and in the end you can use whatever you have at home and there are some very interesting videos on the internet that are kind of scrapbooking, you know?
TWENTY-SEVEN: Create a short movie. I added it here for those who identify with the audiovisual area, recording videos. It can be a real super production, you can bring in other actors, mix it up with your friends.
Or it could even be made using apps like iMovie, which have ready-made templates. If it's just for fun I'm in favor, you know? There are apps for literally anything nowadays, you can do some super fun things.
If you like this video area, seriously, give it a try! I feel like a lot of people feel intimidated by cameras and recording, but at the end of the day you're the one who does it, you're the one who edits, you are the one throwing it away too. That's how everyone starts.
TWENTY-EIGHT: Paint RPG miniatures. This one is very specific, and very Henrique. But I even have an example here that my brother gave me, he was the one who introduced me to this hobby.
I haven't done it yet, mine is a Medusa, we bought it online. And it will stay on this base here, basically it's a miniature here already made in metal that you Paint and create your character. Also, like everything else, there are a lot of videos on YouTube teaching it.
TWENTY-NINE: Act. I would like to mention here some reference to the theatre, to acting, which is really cool. So I figured if you want to, you know, venture out, see if you like it or not, I would propose, for example, you take a scene from a movie you like, some internet monologue or a book and just read it in out loud, in the mirror first or if you really want to record yourself to see what it looks like later.
That might really help you, like that, to let go. AND THIRTY: Create your own paints. There are people doing this today, both because, I think, sustainability, that they use their own materials, like, more natural raw materials, which are stones, sand that they find and they crush and create their own Ink Plus you create your own colors and the art you create using those inks will be super authentic.
Okay, that was a lot, but believe it or not, I have more ideas! So if you liked it, please don't forget to rate it below, leave in the comments what you felt, what you're going to try or even tips on new hobbies, things you do that you like and think other people do. They might like it too.
So if you guys enjoy it and tell me you liked it, I can bring more videos of these. Also because it has everything to do with this channel here, and one really cool thing, I didn't want the introduction to be too long, so I left this to say here is that all of this is very related to the flow state. Flow state is a name they gave in psychology to.
. . Do you know when we are super immersed in an activity?
That we feel. . .
We don't feel the time pass, we kind of get lost there. When we realize the time has flew. You don't really differentiate who you are from the activity.
That's kind of the study. If you've never had this feeling, I highly recommend having a hobby, something you enjoy doing so much that you get into that state of flow. Because that's a way for you to really relax your mind and take care of yourself.
I believe this too much. I hope you enjoyed this video, don't forget to look here in the description. Talk to me in the comments.
Subscribe? I'm hoping you're already subscribed. Anyway, see you in the next videos!
What I'm trying to define so far is whether I like the makeup I did today or if I look like a Teletubbies. I don't know why but I have this Teletubbies thing in my head. I haven't decided yet.
