[Music] it doesn't make sense in my mind why wouldn't you want to try to go as hard as you could on every set that you do every chance you get like it's not really freaking often where I think about leaving something in the tank and have that be a positive scenario oh my gosh okay didn't you say you were going to lock in this summer what happened it's already been like pretty pretty much 2 and 1/2 months where the gain's at man you said you're going to hit Planet Fitness every [ __ ] day you
know it's got a free membership for uh high schoolers what's going on here I'm glad I could push myself like that and that should be my bar like the most that you can do is the most that you should do if you kind of understand what I'm saying there know it's going to be so much easier to lock in if you're a little bit more diligent and you're a little bit more kind of controlled of like just even the things that you're thinking about on a day-by-day basis where you got to [ __ ] you
know have that dog in you you got to have the ability to [ __ ] push yourself when nobody's watching because there is a kind of aspect to being alone where just having people around you in a way holds you accountable like not for real you know nobody it's not like everybody knows your your exact workout and if you if you're if you plan to do four sets of leg extensions and you only did three you know no a random dude isn't going to say oh you got one more bro come on get real they're
not going to say that but just having people around you it does kind of give a little bit of a motivation to be like okay well people are watching let's go hard for real or let let's push it at least so it looks like I'm trying right so to go hard no matter how strong well rested hydrated wellfed you are you know for you to just push to the Limit regardless of your external circumstances right that is what the enlightened lifter is capable of every lift so part of it is also going to be if
I can maybe taking a little bit of a more objective look at even just who you're hanging around you know I've never um I've never really had to do that very much much I kind of just keep the grind up but if you're in a if you're always hanging out with like five dudes and none of them are grinding none of them are locked in what are the odds that you suddenly will be you know you're kind of going to match the uh you're kind of going to match the environment that that you're [Music] around
I probably could have got like another rep or two like in a if I was extra ra extra hyped up I probably could have got maybe one or two more but that was definitely up in the range of intensity where I'm you know I'm satisfied with it you know if you know you could have got five more then you know you got to do some self [ __ ] reflecting two key wordss delayed gratification you know so youve got to be kind of content with doing the exact same thing basically day after day after day
and making reasonable progress and part of that could just be dependent on how patient you are like I would say just as like a general guess but the more impatient somebody is this isn't rocket science the less likely it is that they're going to stick to something for a long [ __ ] time and like 99% of any cool [ __ ] that anybody does ever usually takes a lot of preparation and practice and just repetitive action to get good at so that you can actually do something kind of cool you [Music] know don't forget
the passage of time stops for no one so try your damnest to capitalize on it when you know that you can the last thing you want to do is fast forward 5 years 10 years however many years and think to yourself holy crap I probably should have spent those years doing something a little bit different whoops inaction is I would say inaction is probably far worse than wrong action cuz at least if you make some mistakes and some fuckups you get to learn from them you know if you don't do anything you just kind of
stay comfortable you got to be the guy who has to deal with the thoughts on the regular of oh man what could have been you know get that membership do uh do whatever it is you thinking about cuz odds are if you don't you know your pattern of not doing it is very strong you know if you were a Gambling Man and somebody showed you like a guy who has been saying he's going to go to the gym and then you showed that he has not gone for five months straight you know thisy let's say
this guy says dude I'm going to the gym man serious I'm going to I'm going to lock in if for 5 months straight this guy has not actually locked in what are the odds that suddenly that's going to switch on one random day know it's not [ __ ] likely and unfortunately that's the [ __ ] state of uh that's the state of being of and unfortunately large amount of [ __ ] potential lifters you know you got to any lifter any lifter has serious [ __ ] potential to make some crazy [ __ ]
gains but it takes a while it takes a while and it takes some uh takes some confidence to get that started so unfortunately a lot of guys just it's a little bit of a failure to lunch you know so well up some well up some pride well up whatever it is you got to do to get [Music] excited cuz not everybody is in the gym to be like a hardcore [ __ ] bodybuilder but if that's you the your gym is not always going to full of [ __ ] freaks who are really trying to
who are seriously trying to lock it in damn this guy's trying to bump into me but that's the sort of case you know that's the situation where you yourself you got to lock yourself in right you got to you got to put on your own big boy pants with nobody watching you you know tie your own damn shoes and do a badass set without the help of any external motivator go every Tik Tok and Instagram post po where it's like 2023 was our warmup 2024 is where we kill it 2024 is when we start taking
Souls you know like you know what I hate about that is the sentiment is there the sentiment of that idea is pretty [ __ ] cool like it doesn't matter how the past you know has played out right you've got time now to make some serious moves but and everybody who's posting that kind of [ __ ] and everybody watching it and liking it being like yeah [ __ ] yeah 2024 is my year I mean 90% of the people commenting that they're just straight up [ __ ] [Music] lying you know you got to
you got to sort of rewire your brain as such that somebody's always watching and that's human man that's [ __ ] you you've got to um and I'm not saying this is like the best way to do it but I kind of feel like you've got two consciousnesses in a way right you know you've got you right now and then you've got you in the future so me right now I want to do a you know a badass leg day and I know for a fact that if I didn't really push it then I would
regret it later on you know so it it would be a double whammy if I slacked off cuz then I'd have to get in the car and I'd have to say to myself like okay I was capable of going much harder than I did today and I didn't do it because I was I didn't want to push myself so not only do I get hit right now immediately but it's also going to hit me later because let's fast forward the end of this bulk and let's say I'm [ __ ] hosing down and I'm thinking
to myself like oh crap I wish my legs were bigger man I just did a full bulk every really I was really trying to work on my legs oh man I wish I wish they were bigger I you you can't really say that you know you don't get to say like oh I I wish my legs were bigger magically if you just spent 5 months or however many months not going [ __ ] bananas hard on them right so that's where I always talk about kind of having a having an ability to employ some delayed
gratification because if you kill it then you also get a double whammy of [ __ ] enjoyment cuz just doing anything hard really physically exerting yourself that is going to make you feel good we're not uh we're not so evolved that we've separated oursel from our kind of animalistic Tendencies You Know back when you were a caveman you got a pretty serious dopamine Rush when you sprinted at full speed and like caught a [ __ ] gazelle you know I'm talking liver King style [ __ ] you know that got your brain going so we
you're still wired just like that you're still wired like that so pushing yourself hard physically it does make you feel good so for one thing boom you got an immediate [ __ ] gratification you had a goal you hit it it involved pushing yourself hard physically awesome and then later on down the line you get to actually reap the [ __ ] long-term benefits of working out hard cuz you're going to be in badass shape no don't uh don't get me wrong I'm not going to walk into a gym and say oh that guy's so
[ __ ] small what I'm really looking at is and not like my opinion [ __ ] matters but when I look around at the gym and the guys who I like seeing the most it's not the guys who have the most impressive [ __ ] physiques it's not the guys who are like you know they have the coolest chest insertions ever or whatever else it's just the guys who seriously push it you know I think um I think the training side of things is kind of the uh the part that I really am locking
myself into the most like that's what I like the most that's the coolest part that's the part that I get to do every day and push myself on I get to be the proudest from have you been grinding yeah more than likely I mean I'm just I'm not saying you but the general population no more than likely the general population has not been [Music] grinding and even if you are feeling a little bit tired dude there's a difference between being actually like exhausted and being you know just kind of tired because you're you've been laying
down in bed for a little while and you're not really feeling that motivated to get up you know I've been Lifting for a pretty long time and I'll still have days especially when I have a lot of you know extra responsibilities during the day and I don't get to just chill and be perfectly prepared for the lift you know you and I'll still have [ __ ] days where I'm like oh jeez I'm so [ __ ] tired but then you get in the car you take your pre-workout the caffeine starts to kind of hit
you and then even if I'm still tired after that once I do my first two sets I'm in the [Music] zone but clearly if you've been doing the same thing for a considerable amount of time and with a considerable amount of discipline right if you've actually been doing a legit routine for months okay not four months but for months and you've been going hard and you're not seeing the results that you want you know I'm not a this is not a roast but you just kind of have to you know make some adjustments because if
you're trying to stimulate a muscle to grow and it's not growing more likely than oh I just have bad genetics I just have bad CH chest genetics I can't grow my chest right more likely than that is you're just not stimulating it in the way that is necessary for your particular [Music] build you know if you push yourself hard and you should be able to catch yourself if you're not you know pushing yourself up to that expectation and ideally you know maybe I could do two sets that were kind of you know BS sets right
the Enlighten lifter will at least be able to catch himself and say what the heck was that that and then go harder for the rest of the lift the last thing you want to do is do a BS lift in its totality have a crappy pump probably be in a crappy mood I mean come on you made it all the way to the gym from your house right you kind of just feels weird not to go hard you know and if you ever do a set like that where it's not like you're totally pushing it
to the max at least make sure you definitely push it you know cuz I could definitely see someone starting to think like you know they do a set of RP E5 so literally half of the max exertion that they could put out in the set and say ah that was good you know when you did a hard [Music] set like I could still be totally satisfied with this leg day if on those sets of squats like first set at 10 or 8 or 12 or whatever I did if I hit failure at three plates versus
the four I'd still be perfectly satisfied with that cuz I'm not a freaking powerlifter in [ __ ] years the same guys who were posting like 2019 was our warm-up 2024 is where we take the spotlight they're going to be posting the same thing every year every [ __ ] year man and part of it I'm not saying this is true for everyone but something I kind of believe in a way is that it's a lot of talk right talk is cheap everybody's got a [ __ ] mouth everybody can text on their [ __
] phone and say what whatever you know it's um oh like I see these posts of you intermediate moderate lifters whatever of course I'm going to relate it back to lifting and they're like [ __ ] this bulk we're going to go [ __ ] crazy uh I'm going to hit 315 in my mind saying something like that does stronger that you try to affirm and like say and try to show other people like this is what I'm going to do I'm going to do this I'm going to in a way I mean not in
a way I definitely feel like all you're doing is kind of manifesting your insecurity with what whatever that goal is and you're trying to tell the universe like hey I I'm not lying about it I can do it of course I can it's like the stronger you defend yourself the more reason that you have something to defend in it [Music] sense I think the guys who are actually going to bench 315 aren't posting about it I think the guys who are actually going to get above 200 lb aren't posting about it you know they just
[ __ ] do it and I know this is stupid for me to say because I [ __ ] post a YouTube video of my workouts every [ __ ] day but you shouldn't do this [ __ ] to show [Music] off when it comes to talk talking about your goals and talking about your Ambitions and your uh [ __ ] a minute let's get into talking about your dreams talking about anything overthinking is the enemy of executing and I'm not just saying that like you think too much and you talk yourself out of it
no I'm saying the idea of like envisioning yourself you know doing something like oh crap once I once I do this oh it's going to feel so good good oh my God once I'm once I get that metal I'm going to be like wa it's going to feel sick I'm going to be it's like anything doesn't have to be a competition it can be anything I think thinking about that a lot and really focusing on the end goal and like imagining like oh yeah that's going to feel sweet you're tricking your [ __ ] mind
by by imagining that I mean we all know what it feels like like imagine just thinking about whatever like something that you want to do that's pretty big like not just a day-to-day goal I'm talking something that could take months or years to build up to by putting a lot of thought into it and like oh my God that's going to be sweet you know it's like when I think about [ __ ] I want to do I could I could sit here and [ __ ] give myself a big ass smile on my face
like like out of nowhere but all I'm doing is [ __ ] tricking my own brain into getting a little dopamine release that really is not very different than literally achieving the goal in reality and by doing that you're kind of desensitizing yourself to it it's just you know I think massive [ __ ] goals are sweet but you know as far as I'm concerned the best way of actually making progress towards them is cutting it down to a day-by-day scale and ensuring that every day your goal is to Simply take another step toward it
[Music] at a baseline level everyone has a pretty solid amount of [ __ ] potential gym wise like muscle growth wise you know some people are going to have crazier genetics than others obviously it's a [ __ ] given but the median you know after a period of time I think anybody can get [ __ ] jacked you know but if half of the people don't really enjoy working out at all and it's like it's a real chore they don't enjoy it they're [ __ ] like they're just they don't I mean some people just
don't even see it like they can't really connect with it when they're working out they don't feel like they're going hard and pushing it they feel like oh I'm so sweaty I'm so tired this sucks this hurts I mean some people they just can't connect with the lift man which I mean sucks for them unfortunately but if they were to be able to really enjoy it I mean it would make sense you know let's think about this scenario if you worked out hard as [ __ ] consistently every week you know maybe you take a
rest day or two it's whatever if you do that for 4 years straight and you you know you get your diet on a reasonable point to the point where you're making progress and you sleep pretty well are you going to be jacked I think if you actually pushed it every workout out and you did it consistently I think yes I think if you put anybody through serious workout programs like bodybuilding style like we're all doing for a few [ __ ] years I think anybody can [ __ ] do it you know but the fact
that people don't really enjoy it and it feels like a chore or they're like oh dude that's [ __ ] that's way too much time [ __ ] man I think that's the biggest sort of thing turning people away it's just the fact that it's kind of a [ __ ] long-term commitment
