Video Transcript:
[Applause] [Music] hey what's up everyone this is Rock from motion street.com and welcome back to another brand new After Effects tutorial and I'm really excited about this most anticipated tutorial Series where we'll be breaking down the editing techniques of a popular YouTube channel magnets media which is known for their amazing storytelling Sleek visuals and Motion Graphics that really brings their content to life because they have mastered a unique style that combines fluid animation and dynamic transitions making their videos stand out in the crowded space of YouTube and I want to say a huge thank you
for all the love and support you guys have shown on the walk tutorial and since then I'm getting tons of messages and comments to make a tutorial or magnets media and here we are with the episode one of the series so in this episode one we will dive deep into the editing workflow of creating the iconic Coca-Cola animation covering everything is step by step and across multiple episodes so that you don't lose the grip and now let's take a look on that iconic Coca-Cola animation Coca-Cola spend endless billions on Advertising every year but will'll never
once try to sell you on their products they sell an idea happiness Harmony togetherness but some would say it's a distraction from the disturbing truth there were a lot of serious accusations against the company that that they've caused disease droughts exploitation and much much worse so buckle up we're going on a journey through kooch's incredible history spanning three different centuries we'll be examining how Coca-Cola really became one of the most recognized Brands ever and at what cost because one thing is for sure you don't build an Empire selling sugar water by telling people the [Music]
truth whether you're a beginner or a season editor looking to refine your skills then I've got you all covered with this Series so without any further Ado let's quickly roll the intro and jump straight into the after [Music] effects all right here we are back in After Effects and like we always do we'll start by creating a new composition and we're going to call it as render with a dimension of 1920 by 1080 which is full HD with 30 FPS and 10 seconds long with the background color is complete Black and then just hit okay
and then let's create another composition and we're going to just simply call it as scene uncore 01 with the same settings hit okay and for the last time let's create a new one and we're going to Simply call it as background and then just hit okay all right and before we proceed any further with the animation let me make it very clear that in this episode 1 we are only going to break down the first few seconds of the animation which would look something like this and then in the second episode we will take this
animation a bit further as you can see okay and the reason I have divided this tutorial into multiple episodes is only to ensure that each episode remains concise and engaging because combining everything into one single video would have extended the runtime Beyond an hour and I also wanted to maintain the spark of the tutorial throughout and by the way the second episode will be up on the channel very soon so just stay tuned okay and now let's continue the work okay so now we'll just make sure that we are in the background composition already and
then just do a right click anywhere in the timeline go to new and let's create a new solid and for the color we're going to use an he Cod that is C30 and it's a kind of dark red color as you can see and then just hit okay now go back to the scene one composition and then just drag the background composition into into the timeline like this and then let's quickly discuss about the assets required for the animation so the very first thing we would need is a clip of a crunch texture as we
can see and the second thing we require is logo without any background and lastly we need the same logo but with outlines only okay and all of these things are freely available on the internet and once we have it we'll now import everything into the after effects okay so now just do right click in the project window and let's create a new folder okay and we're going to call this one as assets and we'll now make sure the folder is selected and then go to file import and click on file and these are three things
we were talking about and then just hit open okay and now I must let you know guys that if you want to follow along with this tutorial you can always download the project file from our official website whose link has been given in the description box below so don't forget to check it out okay and now we'll simply select the background layer and then do a double click on the rectangle tool and it will automatically create a mask for us and then we can even expand the mask one properties and then we'll make sure to
put the time indicator at around 1 second and 22 frames and then drop a key frame on the mask path go back to the very beginning then just select these two mask points and then hold shift and pull this or bring this at the very bottom like this okay and now we can even select these two key frames H F9 to easy ease them and then we can now go to the effects and presets Tab and we'll search for an effect that is called wave warp okay and then just drag this onto the background like
this and now if you're not able to see this effects and presets tab on your screen you can always go to this window and make sure this effects and presets is checked okay makes sense and now in the settings we'll simply keep this wave type as sign and for the wave height we're going to go with 16 and for the wave width I think uh 357 is the perfect value for this this and for the direction I think 79° will do the work and for the wave speed we're going to keep this one as one
and a half okay like this and now if you just see the preview this is what it will look like but yeah this is what we needed okay and after this we're going to go back to the project window and then just bring in our crunch texture into the timeline and we're going to place it right at the very bottom okay so after this we'll simply select the background layer here I'm to see the mask and just copy the mask one and just make sure to stay at the very beginning of your timeline and then
just paste the mask we have copied and we can now hit M to see the key frames and it is right here all right and after this we'll also apply another effect which is called the invert so just drag this onto the grunge layer like this and we will also copy the same wave warp effect with the same settings and apply it onto the grunge layer like this okay and now if we change the phase angle to see the grunch and I'm going to keep it something like this okay and now I think I should
place it like this all right and now if we don't want to see this wavy kind of Edge at the very bottom we can simply change the pinning to bottom Edge and for the same for the background layer all right like this and now if you do a script preview this is what we will have and I think I should change a little bit for the phase angle like this I mean I should go and I think it is better if you just move this layer a little bit up like this using the arrow keys
okay and I think this is what I needed all right okay perfect makes sense and now after this what we can do is we can go back to the project window and simply drag the same grunch into the timeline and place it right on top of the background okay and apply the same invert effect and also there is one more which is the curves okay and just apply it onto the layer just by dragging this into the uh effects control window and after this we can simply move this white or the RGB curve something like
this to the right and the top one to the left and then we can simply change the uh track mat to track mat of the background layer to Luma mat like this okay and now if we do a scrub preview we'll have a very smooth blend of the grune we have just applied on the background layer right this is what I needed and this is what we were actually going for all right this looks pretty good at the moment but don't worry about the left and the right side edge as we will fix it at
the very end okay nothing to worry about it and now let's go back to the project window again and after this what we will do is we'll simply bring in our Coca-Cola logo Coca-Cola Coca-Cola logo I mean yeah and then just it has to see the scaling properties and scale this something like this okay at 38 or maybe let's keep it at 36 yeah 38 looks good nothing to worry about all right so once we have the logo into the timeline we'll now just create a new solid and we're going to choose the background color
as complete white hit okay and just place it right under the logo okay and after this we'll simply copy the same wave warp effect with the same settings and paste it onto the white solid okay and we will also copy The Mask key frames which is right here just copy both of them select the white solid and make sure to stay at the very beginning first of all and only then paste the key frames all right and after this we can now change the track mat of the white solid to Alpha mat all right so
now in this way we'll get a revealing animation all right and it feels like or it looks like the red layer is the one who is actually revealing the logo right and this is what we needed and after this we can now go back to the project window and let's bring in our logo outline because we also need to use this one okay and now just hit s to see the scaling property and again scale this down at the same value which is 38% okay and after this we'll search for invert and then just drag
it onto the outlines logo and not to remove all the black uh area from the logo we can just simply change the blending mode to screen all right like this and as we can see that it is almost perfectly aligned with the first logo but we can still use the arrow key so that it should blend all together like this okay and there should be no Gap visible between both the logo okay and in order to remove this uh registered logo trademark or whatever you want to call it this icon I mean we can simply
just keep this layer selected and then pick up the pen tool and simply draw a rough mask like this okay you don't have to be very perfect here and then we can hit M to see the mask and then click on this inverted all right and now it's gone okay and now if you just do a scrp preview to see the animation we have made till now is this is what we will have okay but now there is one more thing we can do is if we just select this layer hit T to see the
opacity and first of all let's uh bring this opacity down to zero and then then drop a key frame and then maybe let's go to around 1 second and I mean 15th frame will be good or yeah let's go with that just one second okay and we'll bring this value back to 100% like this okay and now we can just select all of these things and also this one and just move it move it a little bit to the right in the timeline like this okay and now this is what we will have all right
but we still have just few things to do okay and that is to create those curve lines as you can see right here on the screen okay so just grab the pen tool and then hold shift on the keyboard and draw a straight line across the composition like this and then add one more Point somewhere at the center like this okay and now we can simply uh hold alter the option key on the keyboard and click on the same point which will basically enable the handles and we can just tweak the handles to make a
smooth curve like this okay and now we can even increase the stroke width so let's go with the amount of 100 for now okay and after this we can even adjust the points if needed but I'm going to I'm not going to touch the points for now just a little bit of positioning here and there all right just a little bit and this one is fine all right and after this we can simply stretch this handle the above one okay and now this looks good as of now and now just uh expand the layer go
to contents and then open shape one stroke one and here we'll find a taper section so if we just increase the start length and increase this value up to 100 we can see that the line has become tapered from the left side and if we need the same thing from the right side we can simply increase this end length and now we're in good position to increase the stroke width like this okay and some for some reason I'm not really satisfied with the Curve okay and I think I must make it something like this yeah
this looks really cool now and I think we need a little bit of thickness more okay okay and now we can just place it I mean this entire line on the top like this okay but still I able to see some sort of coordinat so just grab the pen tool again click on the center point and I think I must stretch the handles like this okay and you use this handle if needed okay that looks good really and we can now uh animate this line so we can again expand the layer and just go to
the ADD and we're going to add a trim pass okay and first of all let's close all of the things we don't need and we only need the trim path so just close the shape one and keep this trim path open okay and now what we can do is we can start dropping the key frames so let's quickly place the time indicator at the very beginning of our timeline and then uh decrease the end amount down to zero drop a key frame and then go to 25th frame okay and drop a key frame with 0%
value on the start property and go to 1 second and 10 frames and then increase the end amount up to 100 like this and then finally we'll go to 2 second and fifth frame and increase the start value also all right and in this way we'll get this trim paths animation as you can see and we can even select all the layers turn on the motion blur and click on this little box right here okay and after this we can I think the curve doesn't look that good now after applying the animation so we can
again pick up the pen tool and just click on this point and let's modify the curvature a bit like this and decrease the width as well all right and now in this way we'll have something like this yeah that looks pretty cool now and after this we can even rename this layer by pressing enter on the keyboard and let's call this one as line one okay and after this we can select the line one go to edit and click on duplicate and then just pull this layer a little bit down and put this one under
the line one and we want the line one to be placed just a little bit up as well okay now expand the line two go to contents shape one and uh click on this reverse path Direction okay and in this way what would happen is the the line the bottom line will basically start animating from the right side as you can see okay and if we add just a little bit of displacement in both lines so here comes the first one and only then the second one I mean the Top Line will appear okay so
this is what we really needed and what would happen if we just place this line to maybe a little bit more to the bottom side downwards and then the top one like this okay so it is all up to you just try to uh place the layer wherever you want and yeah there is no specific order or know a way to create this sort of Animation so it's all up to you all right so once we are done and happy with the animation we have made till now it's time to add some minor and yet
important details into the entire animation and to do so we just have to import few other assets into the project window all right so we will just select the asset folder and then go to the file and import and just click on file and these are the three things from the last and the first one okay and then just hit open and after fix will automatically place all those files under the assets folder all right and once done we will simply bring in our very very first image into the timeline like this and it's basically
uh an image of uh dots as you can see so if you just do right click transform and fit to comp width and now you can see it's this is nothing but a a a kind of pattern of dots as you can see and now we'll again apply the same invert effect okay and then set this to screen the blending mode and then we can even hit T to see the opacity and just bring this value down to maybe 40% or maybe let's keep this one as 32 all right for now and we'll modify this
value later on if needed okay so once done let's go back to the project file and and this time we're going to bring in the uh dust particle MP MP4 which is a video Yeah and again just do right click on the layer transform and fit this to comp width all right and we can even a stretch or increase the height like this and just en I mean just change the brending mode to add all right and after this we can just know uh we don't need the sound for this layer so just click on
it and it will be inaudible all right and after this we can now bring in our crumpled paper and let's place it maybe right above the grunge texture okay or may we can just put the layer at the very top and then change the blending mode to multiply and then this animation will look like that we have placed a red crumpled paper at the back right and now if you just take a closer look on the look we'll find that we are still able to see the gaps between both the logo and to fix it
there is a very permanent solution for that and that is to apply a simple choker so just drag this effect onto the Coca-Cola logo the first logo we dragged and we are going to change this choke mat value to maybe minus 5.5 okay and it will cover up almost all of the things all of the cap I mean and then we can even try to select this logo out outline and use the arrow key and place it perfectly and and the cap is not going to bother us anymore okay so it wasn't a big deal
so after this we can go back to the assets and there is something I observe that I mistakenly you know imported the grunch texture the same thing which is right here twice so we can just delete this one okay because this is the grun structure that we have used twice as you can see this say is used two times okay now just do a right click go to new and let's create a new solid and we're going to call this layer as wi means wi yet and then we'll keep the color as complete PL hit
okay all right and then turn on the T action save and then pick up the pen tool and make sure the layer is selected and then we're going to create a mask in the shape of a diamond like this all right and then we can even hold alter the option key and then click on these four corners and convert them into a curve okay and then we can hit M to see the mask click on this inverted and then we can hit T to see the opacity and bring this value to 60% all right and
then we can hit F to see the mask feather and increase this mask something like this all right and now we can just simply turn off the title action save from here and there we go we have just applied a vignette on the entire anim okay so now just do right click again and create another solid and call this one as h means highlighter and we're going to go with the color as complete white hit okay and then pick up this ellipse tool make sure the layer is selected and then hold controller command shift on
the keyboard and try to make a perfect circular mask from the center like this okay and then we can hit F to see the feather and increase this value to something like this and then change the blending mode to Overlay hit T to see the opacity bring this value down to 50% all right and maybe let's keep this one as 45 okay and then we'll search for another effect which is called drop shadow and then just track this effect onto the line one first of all and then in the settings change the shadow color to
white and for the opacity let's uh bring up this value up to 80% and then there is no need to change the direction of 135° and the distance of 5 but for the softness we're going to crank up this value up to 76 okay and in this way we'll get a glow kind of effect on this line one all right and we can even copy the drop shadow effect select the line two and paste it on this layer and here we have the same drop shadow effect all right and you can of course use the
glow effect if you want but for the sake of this tutorial we're only going to go with the drop shadow okay so just do whatever you want and see what works best for you all right and we are almost there with this animation as we only need to do some final touchups and adjustments here and there yeah so now let's quickly go back to the project window and then go to this render composition now let's bring the scene one comp into the timeline and now if we just play the animation we will find some sort
of disturbances going on on both the sides and this is because of the wave war effect that we have applied and to fix it we just have to scale this layer up by 1 person that means 101 okay and it's gone and after this we just have to apply another effect which is the posterized time drag this onto the scene one and then the other effect we'll search for is the Optics compensation and then just drag it into the fix window okay and then in the settings of post rise time we'll simply decrease the frame
rate from 24 to 13 like this and you can of course go with any frame rate you want but I feel like 13 works very well for this type of Animation okay and due to this we will lost the smoothness of our animation as you can see this is what it looks like after applying the posterized time okay now let's put the time indicator at the very beginning of our timeline and then in the settings of Optics compensation we'll first of all check this reverse lens Distortion and then drop a key frame on the field
of view and increase this value by holding shift to the very highest test value which is 180 and then let's move or go to around uh 3 seconds and then bring this value back to zero like this and we can even hit youu to see the key frames we have dropped select both of them hit F9 to easy ease them and go to the graph editor select the right handed hold shift and pull this all the way to the left like this and here we have the Optics compensation applied on our animation okay and this
looks really really cool okay so after this we can do one more thing is that if we don't want to see this gray kind of fill we just have to use the View Center and change the x value of it and here we will have the black fill now okay and in this way we will get this kind of Animation now okay and this looks much better all right and now at this point of time we're still able to see the wave effect at the very top which we really don't want to see and to
fix this we need to jump back into the scene composition and select the background hit you to see the key frames and then jump onto the very first mass key frames and then in the settings of wave warp drop a key frame with a wave height of 16 and then jump onto the next Mass key frames and then just uh now click anywhere outside and then select the background again hit U to see the key frames with the wave W this time and then drop a key frame with the same value and then just move
few frames forward in time may be right here and we're going to bring this value back to zero like this and then just select all these key frames hit F9 to easy ease them and then go to the graph editor and then select the handle I mean just the right handle okay hold shift and pull this all the way to the left all right and in this way we will have this sort of wave which will basically disappear between these two key frames okay because we have set the wave height to zero at this point
of time okay and now we can even select these four or five I mean five layers and just move it a little bit here and then we can now go back to the render composition to see what we have done so far and this looks pretty cool okay and yeah this is what we needed and now is the time to finally do some adjustments or some color Corrections here and there with the layers we have in the scene one okay so first we'll select the vit layer and then hit T to see the opacity and
increase this value up to 68% and then select the logo outline hit s and bring this scale value down to 36 and do the same thing for the other logo from 38 to 36 okay and after this we can just select all of these five layers and place it a bit backwards in time like this and we'll also move move these two layers accordingly and I think we should place it a bit forward in time okay so if we just take a I mean just do a scrpt preview we will see that here comes the
line one and then the line two okay and this looks really cool now okay and everything looks great in this composition and let's go back to the render composition and then do a right click go to new and let's create a new solid and we're going to call this one as crop and keep the color as complete Black hit okay and then let's turn on the ttle action save grab the rectangle tool and make a mask something like this all right and then click on this inverted go back to the scene one for a while
and select the line one and we're going to place the line a bit down here okay and we can even decrease the width to maybe 270 pixel all right and then let's go back to the render composition turn off the data action save first of all and then select the scene one hit R to see the rotation and stay at the very beginning set this value to maybe minus 30° and then uh drop a key frame go to 1 second and 15 frames and set this value down to zero all right and now we have
all these blank areas on all the four sides and to cover this up we have a very cool effect that is known as motion tile so search for it and drag this onto the scene one okay and then in the settings simply increase the output width to 300 and the height to 300 as well and do not forget to click on this mirror edges okay and now the uh this this mirror edge will hardly be noticeable by anyone watching the animation okay so just now uh select these two key frames at F9 to easy ease
them and then go to the graph editor select the right handle hold shift and then move this all the way to the left okay and now here we have the entire animation right in front of us and I think this is what we really needed okay as a final result now let's take a look for the last time yeah it looks really really cool now and the crop layer that we have added here is basically an additional layer which you can keep it if you want in your animation but in this series we're not going
to take it Forward okay and that means we're going to turn it off forever like this and now let's take a final look on the entire animation we have made in the last 30 minutes and this entire thing looks really really amazing okay and we have just hit the target of this episode c one yeah but you can of course take your own time and see how you can improve the overall animation by tweaking the settings adding some overlays or maybe using some other effects so just feel free to play around with this entire animation
because the world is all yours in After Effects so yeah this marks the end of this episode one and thank you so much for watching this video and I hope you really enjoyed learning today's concept and if you really did then make sure to hit the like button subscribe to our Channel and also press the Bell icon so that you never miss any upcoming tutorials and lastly don't forget to follow me as motion on Instagram and I'll see you in the next video till then keep dreaming keep creating peace out [Music] [Music]
