things as I'm teaching you I am right now in this moment multitasking you got it excellent all right here we go say sentence number one while multitasking may seem efficient studies show that it often leads to decreased productivity uh-oh uh-oh I just told you I'm multitasking don't worry in this situation it actually is working well because I'm doing different tasks for the same purpose for one main purpose all right here we go sentence number two I find it challenging ing to focus on one task when I'm constantly multitasking make sense and next sentence number three
prioritizing tasks and avoiding multitasking can improve time management skills you got it excellent so again multitask great job all right our next word our fifth vocabulary word I want you to repeat after me efficiency o good job again after me efficiency great job now what does this word efficiency actually mean it means the ability to accomplish tasks with minimum wasted time or effort you're getting the job done quickly and effectively you are being efficient make sense all right check out these example sentences here we go sentence number one the key to time management is finding
ways to increase efficiency and complete tasks faster you got it good here we go sentence number two he developed a system that allowed him to work with efficiency and Effectiveness and now sentence number three one way to improve productivity is by optimizing efficiency make sense excellent so again our fifth vocabulary word is efficiency great job now I have a surprise for you I have a little bonus expression just for you I told you that I was going to give you five vocabulary words to start start your year off right but now I want to give
you one expression one important expression that will also help you and right before I give you that expression I also need to remind you every lesson including the lessons moving forward after you study these lessons you can also find practice lessons in the English with Tiffany app that's right download the app for free but I want you to practice what you're learning this year I want you to take your English to the next level so you can download the app English with Tiffany for free and start practicing what you are learning all right so here
we go the final one the final bonus expression the bonus expression is deep work again deep work this is an expression that native English speakers know and use and my goal is to help you start sounding like a native English speaker in order to do that you have to use the words and expressions that native English speakers actually use so deep work good job last time after me deep work great job now what does this mean it means focused and uninterrupted work on a cognitively demanding task in other words a task that requires a lot
of deep thought it requires you to think critically it requires you to really focus we say deep work when you take time to work on that task without being interrupted hey my door is closed my phone is off everything else is off I am focused on getting this task completed we call this deep work make sense excellent all right let's check out the first example sentence here we go he reserved blocks of time for deep work to tackle complex projects without distractions makes sense right he wanted to make sure he completed the tasks the projects
without being interrupted so again he reserved blocks of time for deep work to tackle complex projects without distractions you got it excellent all right here we go sentence number two deep work requires concentration and minimizing interruptions to maximize productivity again when you are actually doing this deep work you need to make sure nothing else can bother you nothing else can interrupt you why deep deep work requires concentration and minimizing interruptions to maximize productivity now sentence number three she found that deep work sessions in the morning were the most productive for her for this individual she
found that she was able to focus more have less interruptions in the morning so she found that deep work sessions in the morning were the most productive for her makes sense right excellent all right so again we had deep work the very first one I'm going to teach you is salty you got it right after me again salty excellent now this is an expression and also so kind of a slang term it just means feeling bitter or angry about something now you've probably heard salty when you want to put something on your food right and
you say oh that's a little bit too salty we're not speaking about Flavor we're actually speaking about a person's uh feelings again feeling bitter or angry about something let me give you an example I want you to imagine this situation you are in a group of friends there are three of you right and one of the friends buys a gift for your other friend but not for you how would you feel in that situation H I wonder why she didn't get me a gift you start thinking well wait a minute maybe she's closer to her
and well wait a minute maybe she doesn't like me as a friend all of a sudden you start to feel a little bit bitter or a little bit angry you start to become salty you got it yes excellent all right so I want us to check out three example sentences using this expression so that you can start using it in real life here we go sentence number one he got so salty when we beat him at basketball that last shot we made he was like nah nah nope you guys cheated all of a sudden he
got salty he got so salty when we beat him at basketball it's making sense isn't it good here we go sentence number two sentence number two don't be salty about not getting the job there will be other opportunities so you see we can use this expression in many different situations someone didn't get a job and they're s sad they're a little bit upset someone else got it and they didn't get it in this situation we can say to that person hey don't be salty about not getting the job there will be other opportunities make sense
all right sentence number two using this expression this term she was a bit salty after her breakup when she broke up with her boyfriend she was a little bit bitter a little bit angry she was a bit salty after her breakup makes sense right you're understanding how we use this term again salty very good now we're going to move on to number two but don't forget download the English with Tiffany app because you can go to the practice sessions the practice lessons that are attached to today's lesson so you don't want to miss out there's
so much practice for you to make sure you're understanding everything we're talking about all right here we go number two this is another good one it's slang it's something that is used commonly though by native English speakers many of the younger generation uses it but I also use it at times depending on who I'm speaking with number two is straight fire yep you heard me right again after me straight fire excellent now these are two words you have probably heard used independently but straight fire when they put these two words together what do they mean
it means something that is really good or cool yeah something that's really good or cool for example I've told you many times that my mother W is an amazing cook she really cooks well and I'm not just being biased because I'm her daughter other people agree so for Thanksgiving unfortunately we weren't able to spin it together because my parents were a bit under the weather they were quite sick now they're good so after that two weeks after Thanksgiving we all got together and my mom cooked an amazing meal she made vegan lasagna she made string
beans corn so many different things and as I was eating the food I said man this food is straight fire this food is so good makes sense right all right here we go sentence number one let's look at some example sentences using this expression sentence number one his new song is straight fire his new song is Amazing his new song is so good his new song is straight fire again we're talking about these Expressions that native English speakers use in real life and now when you hear them you understand what's being said and you also
can pick times when you want to use them as well so again straight fire next I was tempted to sing a song at that moment but a song didn't come to my mind fast enough don't worry if it does I'll sing for you later on here we go sentence number two this pizza is straight fire let's order another one this is so good we have to get another one this pizza is straight fire let's order another one and next sentence number three her outfit is straight fire where did she get it woo that outfit is
nice her outfit is straight fire you got it excellent all right so again number two is straight fire let's move on to expression number three again Expressions you can start using in real life number three is sus I know you're probably looking at the screen or if you're listening to me you're probably pausing like I've never heard this one Tiffany again after me sus excellent now this just means suspicious or Shady something that you're not really sure about about something seems a little strange it's literally the shortened form of suspicious or suspect something that you're
not necessarily sure about you're questioning we say sus now this is slang you would not use it in a business meeting however you'll see it used on television programs you hear it when you listen to people on podcast sometimes and you'll probably hear it when looking at your phone at different videos on Tik Tok or Instagram or whatever social media platform you use sus will probably come out so here are some examples that show you how to use this word that guy hanging around seems kind of sus one more time that guy hanging around seems
kind of sus something about that guy is a little bit Shady I'm not really sure about him something about him seems a little bit suspicious that guy hanging around seems kind of sus you got it right excellent all right here we go sentence number two I don't trust that website it looks sus something about it doesn't look good it's suspicious and sentence number three her story seems a bit sus to me not really sure if I can believe what she's saying her story seems a bit sus to me now again this is a term and
expression that more of the younger generation uses on a regular basis but it's important for you to know what it means if you choose to use it go for it that's what it's all about using these things in real life but at least I want you to know what it means if you hear it all right make sense here we go let's move on to expression number four another very important one for you to know all right number four snitch good again after me snitch excellent now this just refers to someone who tells on others
or gives information to authorities they tell the authorities hey she's the one that did it she's the one or hey he's the one he's the one snitch a person who tells on others or gives information to the authorities FBI police teacher again if you have a classroom of students the teacher walks out the classroom and all the students start talking maybe acting up and maybe something falls on the ground and breaks and the students say hey don't tell the teacher everyone just stay quiet teacher walks back in the room room sees the broken glass on
the floor and says who did it teacher Brandon Brandon's the one that did it a snitch the person who told on Brandon make sense all right here we go example sentence number one we called him a snitch because he always tells the teacher when we talk in class number two don't be a snitch keep our plans a secret don't tell anybody and sentence number three I can't believe she snitched on me make sense excellent now this is a word you can start using today it's a very good expression that we use okay number five expression
number five remember all these Expressions will help you start speaking English in real life in your daily life number five is shook good again after me shook excellent now this just means feeling surprised or frightened surprised or frightened take me oh man I wasn't expecting that I was shook so let's say for example ah when I was in South Korea don't worry story time is coming but I'll tell you this short story we used to go to the karaoke place all the time we loved it right I enjoy singing my friends and I would sing
dance around we have a good time one of our friends came with us I had never heard her sing before sweet girl right so we get to the karaoke place I thought she was a quiet person my friends the other friends actually knew that she could sing I was the only one that didn't know so they give her the mic and I'm like oh this is going to be real sweet she starts singing like Whitney Houston and I was shook I was sitting there in awe how did that voice come out of that little body
I was shook I was surprised you caught it right excellent all right here we go sentence number one I was shook when I found out she was moving away surprised sentence number two that movie was so intense it left me shook and sentence number three he was shook when he saw the size of the spider on his wall makes sense surprised or frightened we say shook excellent all right here we go number six Snappy good excellent again after me Snappy great job now this expression it just means someone who has a quick wit or sharp
comebacks again someone who has a quick wit or sharp comebacks so Snappy let's say for example example you have a group of people four individuals sitting together and one individual his name is Mark and another individual her name is Samantha and Mark makes a comment about Samantha's outfit Mark says oh I see you're wearing your brown sweater today Samantha says why do you not like it whoa Mark says you're a little bit Snappy today you caught it he made a comment about her sweater and she immediately responded why you don't like it something wrong with
it remember snapping means quick wit or sharp comebacks you come back very quickly and usually in a negative way okay now these three example sentences are going to help you understand how and when to use this expression like a native English speaker so here we go the first examples and that will help you is this she's so Snappy she always has a clever reply next number two if you can't keep up with his Snappy jokes he'll leave you behind he's telling quick jokes and if you can't keep up he's going to keep it moving he's
going to leave you in the dust and number three The Comedians Snappy onliners had the audience in stitches had them laugh laugh in so hard because he was very quick with his statements so Snappy can also be used when someone is telling jokes that's why the first part of the definition is someone who has a quick wit quick humor able to think on the fly something happens and they make a joke very quickly we say Snappy make sense all right excellent all right don't forget to practice in the app all right number seven number seven
screaming yeah that's right again after me screaming excellent now you already know the word Scream the verb ah right you scream with something happens but this is used in a different way let me explain it just means laughing really hard we say I am screaming it means I'm laughing really hard one of my friends right I have many good friends one of my friends when we get together we laugh so hard we have a similar sense of humor and things will be funny and we will laugh to the point where we can't breathe we're crying
we're falling on the ground and we usually say girl you got me screaming and we're talking about laughing really hard make sense all right check out these example sentences that Meme had me screaming that Meme was extremely funny and it made me laugh really hard make sense all right here we go number two his improv performance was so funny I was screaming with laughter yep you got it and sentence number three we were screaming when we saw the prank they pulled it was hilarious I is all right so again don't forget when someone says screaming
it doesn't automatically mean that they're afraid it can mean they're laughing really hard all right let's move on to number eight number eight again Expressions you can use in your daily life number eight is swag good again swag excellent now this is one you might have heard before you might not have but you might have heard before it literally just refers to a sense of style or confidence and usually we use it to refer to guys it's not wrong to use it for women but normally it's used when referring to guys a guy that has
great style a guy that has great confidence and when he walks into a room heads turned okay I like his swag or a guy that can really speak in an eloquent way and draw the attention of everyone wow he has swag make sense now this is a slang expression so here are some examples and number one he's got so much swag he walks like he owns the place he walks into the room and everyone turns sentence number two I need a new wardrobe to match my swag this individual maybe they're in their teenage years and
they're feeling their swag and they're saying I need an outfit to match my swag I need to change my wardrobe and now number three she's got swag for days she can pull off any outfit again sometimes it can be used to speak about females all right so we say swag good job all right number nine again Expressions you can use in your daily life number nine is snack good again snack excellent now again you're probably thinking to yourself Tiffany teacher I appreciate you I appreciate you teaching me these new Expressions but come on TI I
know this snack that's just something you eat in between meals that is true however this expression this slang expression means a good looking person you heard me right we use this term to refer to a goodlook person now I have used this quite a few times I'll be very honest with you when I'm with my female friends and we either see a guy on a television program or a movie or even in real life walking past us we'll say to each other not out loud to the gentleman now he is a snack I'm laughing because
I'm literally teaching you things that I use in my daily life so it's funny for me to actually say them here because you're listen I'm your teacher but I listen this is how I talk he's a snack he is a snack so it just means a very goodlook person all right here's the example sentence she's such a snack I can't take my eyes off her all right now again you have to be careful when you use this it is a compliment but normally we don't say it to the person well speak about the person to
our friends it's a compliment so you're not saying anything negative you're just saying wow he is really goodlooking he is a snack right so we do say it to our friends referring to someone else sentence number two we all agreed that he was a snack and number three he didn't realize that the girl thought he was a snack he didn't know the girl thought he was attractive make sense excellent all right all right are you a snack here we go number 10 let's go to number 10 number 10 is slay good again slay excellent now
I've used this a few times it is mainly used by I can't even say the younger generation just some people do use it right I know exactly what it means if someone says it I can follow along it literally just refers to someone succeeding eding or looking amazing succeeding or looking amazing and most times I'll hear it used when someone has an amazing outfit on and we'll say okay girl slay we're just saying hey you look amazing you're doing it slay okay slay sometimes people will just say the word it just means you look amazing
it's a very good compliment it is a slaying term though so just keep that in mind you don't want to walk into a business meeting and your boss walks in you say Okay slay hey boss slay depending on who your boss is that might not be the right environment to use it in here are the example sentences number one you slayed that presentation you did a great job you succeeded you see how it's used in this situation right here we go number two she slayed the red carpet and everyone was talking about her meaning she
looked amazing her outfit yes it was amazing she slayed and number three he's about to slay his competition in the big game he's about to succeed he's about to win make sense excellent all right have your pen and paper ready I'm going to teach you the word you need to learn for Sunday of this week the word is empathy oo excellent again empathy good job now this word empathy it literally just means the ability to understand and share the feelings of others again the ability to understand and share the feelings of others I love this
word because I am empathetic I experience empathy when I think about what you go through as an English learner remember I speak Korean and I remember how challenging it was for me as an adult to learn Korean it's not easy so I can understand how you feel I'm expressing empathy understanding and sharing your feelings make sense excellent all right check out this first example sentence she showed great empathy by listening attentively and offering support to her friend in need you got it good here's the second example sentence developing empathy can lead to Stronger relationships and
better communication empathy is so important to have strong relationships and build them here's the third example sentence the teacher's empathy toward her students struggles helped create a supportive learning environment this is what I hope is happening between you and me as well I want to create a supportive environment by letting you know that I understand what you're going through make sense all right so again the word for Sunday is empathy good job all right moving to Monday again learning a new word each day of the week Monday's word is gratitude good again gratitude excellent now
this word gratitude just means notice first when I say it fast it sounds like this gratitude oh you got it now this word just means a feeling of appreciation or thankfulness when you appreciate someone wow thank you so much one of my friends this is not story time but I'll still share it with you when I was sick one of my friends offered to bring me soup I was really sick I couldn't get out the bed I couldn't go anywhere and she brought me soup gratitude I expressed my thankfulness I appreciated what she did this
is what gratitude looks like when I said thank you so much to her so sentence number one expressing gratitude towards others can strengthen relationships and Foster a positive atmosphere it's very true I actually got closer to my friend after she brought me the soup I realized wow she's really a kind person sentence number two practicing daily gratitude by reflecting on things to be thankful for can improve overall well-being I wake up in the morning thankful to have another day to help you it's true speak English with confidence I am so excited exed that I get
another opportunity to help change the lives of so many people around the world what are you expressing gratitude for what are you happy that you are able to do that is sentence number two and sentence number three showing gratitude for the small things in life can lead to a greater sense of happiness in English we say gratitude good job that's Monday's word now let's look at Tuesday's word Tuesday's word after me Integrity good job again Integrity excellent now this word just refers to the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles live a life
full of Integrity doing the right things for the right reasons in English we say Integrity good job I have something on my lip got it it was an eyelash so once again the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles here's sentence number one his integrity was evident when he refused to compromise his values even in difficult situations he would not compromise his values he wouldn't back down he held up his standards his integrity was evident and sentence number two a person with Integrity is trusted and respected by others sentence number three the company's
commitment to Integrity is reflected in its ethical business practices you got it excellent so again Tuesday's word is in Integrity what about Wednesday again you're learning a brand new word for each day of this upcoming week after me compassion good again compassion excellent this word compassion just refers to a deep sympathy and concern for the suffering or Misfortune of others you care about their well-being you want to help them for example I remember prior to going to Korea I developed this strong sense of compassion for homeless people I wanted to help them I wanted to
give back so even when I was in Korea I actually set up a program where once a month the foreign missionaries would come together and hand out food I was showing compassion for the homeless because I really understood how challenging their situations were compassion here's sentence number one the nurse's compassion and care provided Comfort to the patience sentence number two showing compassion towards others can make a positive impact on their lives and sentence number three the organization's mission is to promote compassion and support vulnerable community ities make sense excellent so again for Wednesday the word
is compassion good job all right the next word for Thursday Empower oh good again Empower excellent I love this word here's the meaning of this word the process of giving someone the power or the authority to do something you're giving someone the power for example one thing I love to do as an English teacher is to empower you I believe in you I believe that you can achieve each and every one of your English goals and I love empowering you that's the main reason why I create these English lessons each week because I want to
empower you and reveal that hey if you follow these simple strategies these simple methods you will I promise be able to speak English fluently and with confidence I want to empower you make sense excellent all right check out this example sentence the organization aims to empower women to take control of their lives next sentence number two the coach lecture on leadership empowered the team and finally sentence number three the CEO empowers her employees to make important decisions you got it excellent so once again the word is Empower good job now we have a bonus expression
an expression that we as native English speakers use on a regular basis the expression is keep your chin up that's right your chin up again keep your chin up excellent I'm going to describe this situation that happened several months back there was a basketball game being played by some college students and one player missed a layup he didn't do well on a play and he was feeling dejected he was feeling down and his head started going down and his teammate suddenly ran up behind him put his hand on his chin and lifted his chin up
why to remind him hey keep your chin up stay encouraged don't feel down and that's exactly what this expression actually means to stay positive and hopeful in a difficult situation this is true for you as an English learner keep your chin up so let's check out some example sentences here we go sentence number one I know things are tough right now but keep your chin up think about it when you're exercising sometimes it gets a little bit challenging it's hard you're breathing heavy you're sweating and you don't want to keep going but you have to
remember I know things are tough right now but keep your chin up what about this example sentence right here losing the game was disappointing but we need to keep our chins up and keep practicing hey I know it's hard I I know that we lost the last game but we have to keep our chins up we have to stay hopeful and continue practicing again keep your chin up and what about this third example sentence she faced many challenges but she always kept her chin up and never gave up despite the circumstances despite the challenges she
never gave up no she faced many challenges but she always kept her chin up and never gave up so again keep your chin up excellent I love it all right the very first expression that I need you to understand stand is cut to the chase good one more time after me cut to the chase excellent now this is an expression that native English speakers use all the time it literally just means to get to the main point or important part without wasting time think about it I started this lesson off very quick quickly telling you
what I'm going to teach you and then we jumped right in why because I wanted to cut to the chase I didn't want to waste any time I wanted to get to the main point make sense excellent all right now check out these example sentences sentence number one let's cut to the Chase and discuss the key issues you got it excellent all right sentence number two I don't have much time so please cut to the chase this is an expression you can start using today an expression that lets the person listening to you realize ah
let me just give them the main point the main idea because they are in a rush right you got it all right here we go sentence number three instead of small talk he preferred to cut to the chase in conversations he didn't do a lot of small talk he really liked to get to the main point to cut to the chase yes you are getting it all right we're going to move on to expression number two I don't want you to forget though as you're learning these Expressions I don't want you to forget to practice
what you're learning after the this lesson so download the English with Tiffany app totally for free the link is in the description or you can go to your Google Play store or Apple Store English with Tiffany and you'll find the lesson for today all right so let's go to expression number two the expression is go the extra mile Yes again go the extra mile great job now this just means to make an additional effort or put in extra work beyond what is expected you want to do more you want to give 110% instead of just
100% you want to work hard for example I am passionate about helping you this year achieve your English goal so you've probably noticed that I'm not just doing the YouTube lessons I'm now doing the live monthly English lessons I'm also doing more on Facebook more on Instagram why I'm trying to go the extra mile to help you achieve your English goal makes sense now right I love it all right here we go here's the first example sentence she always goes the extra mile to help her colleagues with their project sentence number two the company is
known for its exceptional customer service because they always go the extra mile and finally sentence number three going the extra mile often leads to great success and recognition man for you as an English learner this is so true go the extra mile this year you want to achieve your English goal put in extra effort and I guarantee you will experience success go the extra mile all right here we go let's move on to expression number three the third expression I want you to understand is have a change of heart good again have a change of
heart excellent now this literally just means to change one's opinion attitude or decision about something you had one idea one specific opinion and then all of a sudden you change that idea you change that opinion for example let's say you normally love to eat chocolate ice cream no matter where you are if someone has ice cream you always choose use chocolate ice cream but then somebody introduces you into mint chocolate chip ice cream and you say I'll just taste it you taste it and oh my goodness it hits the spot it tastes so good all
of a sudden you have a change of heart now moving forward instead of chocolate you'll choose mint chocolate chip you got it again changed your opinion your attitude or decision I used to only like chocolate now I like mint chocolate chip you got it all right here we go first example sentence he initially declined the offer but later had a change of heart and accepted it next sentence number two after his experience she had a change of heart about her career path she learned from her friend's experience and said ooh no I have a change
of heart about my own path and finally sentence number three her recent trip made her have a change of heart about traveling alone you got it excellent all right let's move on to expression number four expression number four is be in hot water good again be in hot water great job now this expression be in hot water it literally just means to be in trouble or facing a difficult situation due to one's actions it's a result of something you did a consequence not a good consequence not a good effect something that is causing you to
face trouble or difficulties be in hot water two little boys their mother told them do not play in the kitchen while I am gone I have food on the stove and I don't want you guys to do anything to mess up dinner okay Mom they said yes we won't go in the kitchen but you know how kids are Mom mom had been away for about 30 minutes the eldest brother said to his younger brother come on let's go in the kitchen man it's more fun in there they ran into the kitchen they were playing tag
