Hi Friends! Today we're going to talk about something called a Growth Mindset. A Growth Mindset is a way of thinking that can help you feel more confident, brave, and excited to learn new things.
Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset Sometimes, when you're learning something new or facing a challenge, you might feel like giving up. You might think, "I'm not smart enough" or "I'll never be able to do this.
" But guess what? Those thoughts are just your Fixed Mindset talking. A Fixed Mindset is when you believe that your abilities and intelligence can't change.
It's like thinking, "I'm either good at this, or I'm not. " But a Growth Mindset is when you believe that you can always improve and grow, no matter where you start. Characteristics Of A Growth Mindset Kids with a growth mindset have the following 7 traits.
They embrace challenges, rather than avoiding them out of fear of failure. They view mistakes as opportunities to learn, grow, and improve themselves through effort and persistence. They understand that their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, rather than believing that their talents are fixed.
They develop resilience to bounce back from setbacks and failures. They are inspired by the success of others, seeing it as a source of motivation and learning. They are willing to step out of their comfort zone and try new things.
They develop a love for learning, seeing it as a lifelong journey of growth and discovery, rather than a chore or obligation. How To Develop A Growth Mindset Here are six tips to help you develop a growth mindset. 1) Embrace Challenges.
When something is hard, don't run away from it. Instead, see it as a chance to learn and grow. Remember, challenges can help you get stronger and smarter.
2) Learn From Mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, and that's okay. Instead of feeling bad about them, try to learn from them.
Ask yourself, "What can I do differently next time? " Mistakes are just opportunities to learn and improve. 3) Believe in Yourself.
You are capable of amazing things! Believe in yourself and your ability to learn and grow. When you face a challenge, tell yourself, "I can do this!
I may not know how yet, but I can learn. " 4) The Power of Yet. When you're struggling with something, add the word "yet" to your thoughts.
Instead of saying, "I can't do this," say, "I can't do this YET. " This small change reminds you that you're still learning and growing. 5) Celebrate Effort.
Focus on feeling proud of your effort, not just on the end result. When you work hard and give it your all, that's something to be proud of, no matter the outcome. Celebrate your effort, dedication, and persistence!
6) Embrace Feedback. When someone gives you feedback, welcome the feedback and see it as a gift. They're trying to help you improve and grow.
Listen to their advice, and use it to become even better at what you do. Here are four examples of a Fixed Mindset versus a Growth Mindset. Imagine you're learning to ride a bike, and you keep falling off.
With a Fixed Mindset, you might think, "I'm never going to be good at riding bikes. I give up! " But with a Growth Mindset and the Power of Yet, you'd think, "I haven't mastered riding a bike yet, but with practice and effort, I know I can do it!
" Let's say you're trying to make new friends, but you're feeling shy. A Fixed Mindset might make you think, "I'm too quiet. No one will want to be my friend.
" But a Growth Mindset would help you think, "Making friends can be scary at first, but if I stay open and friendly, I can connect with others over time. " Imagine you've just failed a history test. With a Fixed Mindset, you might think, "I'm just not good at history.
I'll never get good grades in this subject! " But with a Growth Mindset you'd think, "I didn't do as well as I wanted on this test, but I can learn from my mistakes, adjust my study strategies, and ask my teacher for help. I haven't learned this material yet, but with effort and persistence, I can improve my grade.
” Let's say you have the opportunity to join the robotics team at school, but you're nervous because you've never tried robotics before. A Fixed Mindset might make you think, "I don't know anything about robotics. I'll probably be the worst one there and embarrass myself.
" But a Growth Mindset would help you think, "Trying something new can be tough, but it's also an exciting opportunity to learn and grow. Everyone starts as a beginner. With curiosity and effort, I can develop my skills and contribute to the team.
” Your brain is like a muscle. The more you use it and challenge it, the stronger it grows. So don't be afraid to try new things, make mistakes, and keep learning.
As you develop a Growth Mindset, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish. You'll feel more confident, brave, and excited to learn. And you'll be able to handle any challenges that come your way.
