Hi, guys! How are you? Do you know the main reasons that lead the patient to look for a Cardiologist?
What are the main symptoms you should keep an eye out for and if you are feeling it, you may need to go to the Cardiologist. Do you know them all? Today I'm going to tell you about the five main symptoms that Cardiologists investigate and that if you're feeling it, beware it could be heart disease.
So here we go, without further ado, Play the intro! Dr Roberto Yano Cardiologist Physician. Hello, friends of the heart!
How are you? I am Doctor Roberto Yano, Cardiologist and Pacemaker Specialist. Do you know the main symptoms of a sick heart?
When should you suspect that your heart might be failing? When shold you look for a Cardiologist to investigate it? I'm going to talk today about the five main symptoms that if you're feeling you may need to go to the Cardiologist.
But first, are you already subscribed to the channel? Have you clicked on the bell to receive all notifications? Oh good I thought you hadn't subscribed to the channel yet!
Now that you've subscribed to the channel, I'm going to talk about the symptoms that lead patients to look for the Cardiologist. Let's go! First symptom: chest pain.
This is certainly the most frequent symptom that the cardiac patient complains about. After all, all chest pain should be investigated and heart disease ruled out. Why do I say that all chest pain should be investigated?
Because if it's of cardiac origin it can lead you to death, that's the reason why! Imagine that the main cause of chest pain related to the heart is when the patient has a clogged artery, with a clogged coronary artery, so if this clogging is allowed to evolve, what will happen? He will have an acute myocardial infarction, the infarction is the obstruction of the coronary arteries, the arteries that supply our heart, so when we have an obstructed heart artery, the patient may have chest pain and complain of famous angina.
Angina is chest pain, that pain related to the heart, pain related to the clogged artery of the heart. Now one thing you didn't know, how many percent of chest pains are actually from the heart, do you know? Did you know that only about 5% of chest pain is cardiac in origin?
And what are the other causes of pain which are not from the heart, do you know it? There's a really cool video I made about causes of chest pain that I'll leave here on the card so you can watch it later. But often chest pain can be just muscle pain, inflammation of the ribs, disease of the gastrointestinal system, such as esophagitis or gastritis, some lung diseases such as pneumonia or pulmonary thromboembolism that is in evidence now, in short, it has several other causes of chest pain that are not of the heart, when in doubt always investigate.
It's like I always say, it's better to investigate and make sure you have nothing than to do nothing and suddenly have a heart attack and die. So prevention will always be the best solution, the cheapest and most efficient solution, so don't wait until you got sick! But let's go to the second most frequent symptom, do you know it?
It's the shortness of breath. But isn't shortness of breath a lung problem? It may even be, but we always have to rule out heart disease.
After all, if the heart is weak one of the most common symptoms of the patient is shortness of breath, as that is usually the shortness of breath of the patient has a weak heart or heart failure, do you know it? The patient complains of dyspnea, which is shortness of breath that can happen from great efforts, that is, when he runs, for example, to that shortness of breath at rest, it is very variable. This shortness of breath usually gets worse when the patient lies down, why does this happen?
Imagine that the patient has heart failure, the heart is not able to pump to nourish our body, what will happen? It will start to accumulate fluid in the lungs and this shortness of breath may not be so evident when the patient is standing or when he is sitting, but when he lies down to sleep that fluid that is accumulated in the lower part of the lungs spreads throughout lung, and what happens? Then the person feels short of breath when lying down.
Another frequent complaint is the patient who needs to sleep with several pillows or sometimes even sitting up, and at night wakes up scared trying to suck in air as if he were drowning, this is what we call paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea, a very common symptom seen by us Cardiologists. You saw that in the clinical consultation itself, even without any complementary exam, most of the time we can already identify if the patient has a weak heart, But let's move on to the third most common complaint, which is palpitations. Who has never felt a palpitation in the heart, surely you must have felt it.
What is palpitation, it's every time we feel our heart beat, it's normal for us not to feel the heart, you see, are you feeling your heart? I'm not feeling it, the normal thing is not to feel the heart. Every time we feel the heart we are experiencing a palpitation.
What can palpitation be? It could be a natural heartbeat, it could be nothing, but it could also be a Cardiac Arrhythmia, so especially that palpitation where you clearly notice the failures or accelerations, which lasts for minutes and not seconds and is accompanied by dizziness, a feeling of fainting, or even fainting, this can be a more dangerous arrhythmia. And you often have to seek medical help as an emergency at times.
But if you feel a palpitation, it bothers you and already interferes with your quality of life, it certainly deserves an investigation. Keep an eye out, in case of palpitation it's best to look for your Cardiologist. But so, are you enjoying the video?
Don't forget after sharing, you share the video and we save the world, so let's save the world, guys? Everyone sharing. Fourth symptom of heart disease, dizziness.
Dizziness I think everyone has felt, nowadays, especially after Covid, the number of people complaining has increased too much, but did you know that dizziness can happen due to a heart problem? I say more, if you have frequent dizziness, the first doctor you should go to is the Cardiologist, I'll explain here why. Dizziness of cardiac origin occurs for two main reasons, the most common is due to sudden drops in blood pressure, when the patient is dehydrated or when he stands for a long time, for example, we call it postural hypotension, this dizziness tends to be benign.
Now there is dizziness of cardiac origin and resulting from Cardiac Arrhythmias, which can range from bradycardias, bradyarrhythmias, which are those with a lower heart rate, and tachyarrhythmias, which are due to a higher heart rate. In this case where the arrhythmia is leading to dizziness, falling, feeling of fainting or fainting, they are often malignant arrhythmias, so always keep an eye out; if you feel palpitations with a feeling of fainting mainly, look for a Cardiologist right away, don't procrastinate! But let's go to the fifth symptom, it's swelling in the legs.
About swelling in the legs I already told the causes and for those who haven't seen it I'll also leave the video here on the card. But swelling in the legs can happen due to heart failure, for example, when the heart is weak, so always investigate, if you have a swollen ankle or foot, it may be not a big deal, but it could be the heart; so when in doubt, investigate it!
