Steph Curry is the greatest shooter of all time and one of the best point guards ever, but how good ...
Video Transcript:
Steph Curry came into the NBA labeled as a scrawny undersized point guard Steph is is a blessing in a cur it used to be guys was always trying to dump now he got 7 years old running behind the three-point line jacking up thre but now he's one of the best point guards ever and has made the most threes in NBA history are you the best point guard ever yes so how good is Steph Curry actually after one of the best college careers ever Steph was picked by The Warriors in the 2009 NBA draft at one point at Davidson he was averaging 31 points per game shooting 47% from three but because he was an undersized guard played at a small school and was going to be a 21-year-old rookie he fell all the way to the seventh pick in the draft with players like Blake Griffin James Harden and Tyreek Evans getting drafted right in front of him Steph started his rookie year as good as anyone ever has averaging 17 and 1 12 points per game and six assists coming in second and Rookie of the Year race Steph was already one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA he shot almost 43% from three and made 166 of them at the time the most ever by a rookie but despite all the success he was having individually it didn't lead to a lot of Team success the Warriors finished with a record of 26 and 56 the 13th worst record in the Western Conference his second year in the NBA Steph improved all of his numbers up to 18. 6 points a game and improved his three-point shooting up to 44% one of the best shooting percentages the NBA has ever seen he was looking like a future star in the NBA even though though he was a smaller guard and had concerns about being a point guard in the NBA he was proving everyone wrong but the very next year problems started popping up for Steph and there were concerns if he would ever play in the NBA [Music] again it all started when he sprayed his ankle as rookie year it didn't seem like anything serious but these injuries would continue to follow him missing a few games here and there from injuries and it would be in his second season where he missed eight games but the big news came when the season was over Steph underwent ankle surgery and the very next year he had the worst season he has ever had in his entire career all of his numbers dropped he went down to 14 points a game and was only able to play in 26 games the entire year questions surrounded Steph they didn't know if he could stay healthy it was ankle injury after ankle injury and that caught Steph to me and trade talks for Andrew bogit the trade for Stephan bogit was almost made but the Milwaukee Bucks doctors forced them to not make the trade they didn't know if Steph was ever going to play basketball again that's how bad his ankles were this left the entire NBA with the same questions would Steph ever be healthy again and if he ever were to get healthy how good would he actually be the very next season Steph Curry had his opportunity to prove everyone wrong this was his first semi-healthy season in almost 2 years only missing four games and this gave him the opportunity to take the next step in his career putting up career highs in points assists and rebounds he also shot over 45% from three and finished 11th in MVP voting Steph was finally seen as one of the best point guards in the NBA and the warriors were starting to surround him with a talented roster his Splash bro Klay Thompson was showing why he was drafted with the 11th overall pick and the two of them quickly became a topb court in the NBA at just 24 and 23 years old but the thing that made these two special was their shooting ability like I already said Steph was one of the best if not the best shooter in the entire league but clay was also on his way to being one of the best in the NBA in just his second year in the NBA he made 21 threes and their head coach knew immediately that these two were special the way they practiced the way they prepared how serious they took their gift it was an easy call for me and to close that statement after I made the statement I said in it name even close they are the greatest shooting back court that's ever played this game while Steph and Clay were bringing the Warriors to one of the best teams in the league Steph was also creating a brand new NBA ever since Steph was drafted in 2009 thre's attempted by each NBA team team only kept going up the year he was drafted teams only attempted 18. 1 threes per game and already by the time he was 24 had the entire league shooting on average 23s per game Not only was Steph shooting a high percentage from three and showing you could win by making them a main part of your offense but he was also setting every three-point record thus far in his career breaking the record for most threes made as a rookie with 166 and the same year he took his jump to being a superstar in 2013 he also broke the record again making 20 72 of them in just one year going into the next season in 2014 this was the first time Steph would be an NBA Allstar he took the Warriors back to the playoffs for the second year in a row finishing the year with a record of 51 and 31 and had the best season of his career yet with 24 points per game and ending six in the MVP race he still made an insane amount of Threes putting in 261 even with all the hype surrounding Steph and the Young Warriors they still fell short in the first round against Lob City and the Clippers and that's summer changed everything for the Warriors that summer the Warriors fired head coach Mark Jackson and replaced him with Steve Kerr Mark Jackson was hired in 2011 he came in during all of Steph's ankle problems and was there to help with the decision to draft Klay Thompson he took the Warriors from the bottom of the West to a playoff team with a bright future but now it was time for a new head coach with championship experience to finally take Stephen the Warriors to the next level but that wasn't the only thing that happened in the summer of 2014 that same summer the Warriors almost traded Klay Thompson for Kevin Love Thompson was only 23 years old and the Timberwolves were trying to get rid of Kevin Love Clay was an upcoming Superstar but Kevin Love was already a superstar who could rebound and shoot the ball luckily for the Warriors the man who helped build their Dynasty Jerry West threaten to quit being their team consultant if that trade went through so because of Jerry West Klay Thompson stayed with the Warriors and alongside Steph and their new head coach would finally break through the very next year in 2015 Stephen the Warriors came into the season with a ton of confidence the last few years they had been good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to make a playoff run but that would all change this year Steph took the next step into being a superstar and would become one of the best players in the entire NBA and fighting for the title of best point guard in the League this season he made 286 threes scored almost 24 points a game and won his first MVP a big reason he won MVP was because he led the Warriors to a record of 67 and 15 one of the best records in NBA history practically running through the rest of the NBA he also shot one of the best percentages of his career 44% from three all eyes were on sta the rest of the NBA was noticing how important the three-point shot really was and now was the time for Steph Curry to show everyone how good he really was sweeping the Pelicans in the first round beating the Grizzlies in six and getting past the rockets in five games Steph was dominating in the playoffs scoring 40 and 39 in two games against the Pelicans and a 33 in a game against the Grizzlies had one game scoring 40 against the Rockets with seven made threes and another scoring 34 he was doing all this while being the centerpiece of the offense teams were doubling tripling even quadruple teaming him but it didn't matter Steph and the warriors were moving on to the NBA finals for the first time in 40 years the Warriors won game one and the Cavs won game two then the Cavs won game three three going back to Cleveland for game four this was a must-win game for the Warriors and in this must-win game Steph had 22 points in a 21-point win and after the Cavs won their two games they wouldn't win anymore in game five back in California Steph dropped his career high so far in the finals 37 points to secure the win for the Warriors and in game six Steph g 25 points to win his first of many NBA Finals the championship is back in the bay for the first time in 40 years Steph finally showed the entire world that a small point guard that wasn't very athletic could be the best player in a championship team and that the three-point Revolution was here to stay going into the 2016 season questions surrounded the Warriors and Steph was it one lucky year could they do it again or were they just a one hit wonder they started the season not losing any games their first in second loss were in December and after that they only lost seven times the rest of the year breaking the record for most wins in the regular season and becoming the greatest team of all time but what was even more impressive was the year Steph Curry had he set career highs across the board 30.
1 points every single night a career high in Steels and shot 45. 4% from three he also broke the record for the most threes ever hit in one season 402 a record that is still yet to be broken and might not ever be broken Steph broke this record when teams were only attempting 24. 1 threes per game that's a big increase from win he came into the NBA in 2009 when teams were only averaging 18.
