hi mystery Recaps here today I'm going to explain a horror mystery movie called Case 39 spoilers ahead watch out and take care the movie opens with a social worker named Emily who works in Child Protection Services her job is to investigate domestic abuse cases involving children and make sure they live in safe environments she is currently juggling 38 Active cases which is an overwhelming workload for her but to make matters worse her boss Wayne unexpectedly assigns her a 39th case this annoys Emily a lot but she keeps her calm and opens the file inside she

finds a picture of a little girl named Lilith Sullivan who is reported to be neglected by her parents in the evening Emily arrives at a bar where she meets her best friend Doug who is a doctor it turns out he has feelings for her and suggests they should be in a relationship even though Emily likes him as well she refuses his advances as she's constantly stressed because of her work and doesn't have time for dating the next day Emily decides to visit Lilith and arrives at her house she meets the parents Margaret and Edward who

both seem very rude and suspicious Lilith also attends the meeting and she seems like a quiet and innocent child Emily then informs the parents that her agency received a call which reported that Lilith was being neglected it turns out that she's often isolated at school and sleeps all day her grades have also dramatically dropped in the past few months but despite all of this her parents insist that there's no problem at all Emily tries to talk with Lilith but the girl seems terrified of her parents and remains silent Upon returning to her office Emily tells

Wayne that Lilith's parents seem strange and she feels something isn't right she asks him to invite them to the office but Wayne is hesitant he worries that they could be sued for violating the family's rights but when Emily continues to insist he finally agrees the next day the Sullivan family arrives at the office to talk with Wayne surprisingly their behavior is very normal and Edward claims that he loves his daughter very much he even promises that there's nothing Sinister going on in their family later Emily speaks with Lilith alone and asks if she's all right

the girl responds that her parents hate her for some reason and they often threaten to send her to Hell upon hearing this an alarmed Emily immediately brings her to Wayne's office and asks her to repeat what she said but when Lilith notices her father in the distance she becomes scared and remains silent after the family leaves Emily tries to convince Wayne that there's clearly abuse happening but he dismisses her concerns and closes the case in the evening Emily meets her detective friend Mike and asks for his help with the situation but even he explains that

he can't take any action without evidence and urges her to let it go the next day Emily goes to see Lilith after school and the latter hugs her in excitement Emily then asks her about what's happening at home but the girl doesn't reveal anything soon the school bus arrives and Lilith must leave so Emily gives her her personal phone number and asks her to call whenever she feels scared in the evening Emily is at home when she suddenly receives a call from a terrified Lilith the little girl says that that her parents are going to

do something bad to her upon hearing this a shocked Emily rushes to her house and also invites Mike to join her they arrive at the place soon after and hear Lilith screaming from inside Mike then breaks down the front door and they rush in when they reach the kitchen they're horrified to see Lilith's parents putting her in the oven and trying to kill her a high bro ought to do it Mike is then attacked by Edward while Margaret approaches Emily with a knife however the detective bravely fights off both of them allowing Emily to rescue

the little girl in the aftermath of this incident Edward and Margaret are deemed mentally ill and placed in an asylum meanwhile Lilith is in a hospital where Doug examines her and conducts her psychological evaluation after being discharged she's transferred to a state home until a permanent family can be found for her but the girl asks Emily to adopt her and Promises to be a good kid Emily responds that she isn't mother material and is too busy to take care of a child however Lilith insists that she'll never know unless she tries Days Later Emily changes

her mind and decides to take into custody until they find her a foster home she manages to convince the board of directors with great difficulty and brings the girl home the two then start living together and they appear to be very happy one day Emily returns to Lilith's former home to get her personal belongings she's shocked to discover that the parents room is locked from the inside with several bolts she also notices scratches on the floor implying that the parents used heavy Furniture to barricade themselves in the room at night the scene then shifts to

the hospital where Lilith is participating in a group therapy session with other children and Doug a boy named Diego opens up and tells how he is constantly bullied at school while his parents are also divorcing just then Emily arrives to pick up Lilith and the two head home together the next day when Emily arrives at her office she receives the shocking news that Diego has killed both of his parents this leaves her shell shocked and she rushes to the crime scene to find more it turns out that she was the one who handled Diego's case

and was quite close to him at the crime scene she meets Mike who tells her that Diego took an iron rod from the garage and slaughtered his parents he also mentions that when the cops arrived the boy was crawling on the walls this incident deeply disturbs Emily but Doug consoles her and tells her that she can't save the whole world when Emily returns home she notices Lilith has found her childhood picture with her mom the little girl then asks about her family and Emily reveals that she never knew her dad and her mom passed away

when she was just a kid she explained explains that it was pouring heavily that day and they were involved in an accident in which only she survived Emily is also upset with Lilith for rumaging through her personal things and asks her not to do it again in the evening Emily and Mike are eating at a diner discussing Diego's situation she reveals that although he was a troubled kid he loved his parents a lot and couldn't have done this Mike then reveals shocking information on the night of the murder Diego received the call from Emily's house

she is stunned to hear this and swears that she didn't make the call later the two arrive at her house and question Lilith about Diego the little girl acts very innocent and says that the boy is in the same group therapy as her they then ask if she called him last night but Lilith confidently denies it the next day Emily goes to meet Diego who is now locked up in a facility she inquires about the call which stresses him so much that he has a panic attack and collapses on the ground later when he finally

comes to his senses he informs Emily that there was indeed a call from her house he admits that it was a man speaking on the other end but doesn't reveal what he said hearing this Emily is utterly confused as there is no one in the house except her and Lilith and perhaps the devil in the evening she's working late at the office while Lilith is playing in a nearby chair shortly after Doug shows up and takes Lilith to a room for her psychological evaluation he starts asking the girl questions about her school and friends but

she tells him to get to the point and stop rambling Doug then mentions that in a preliminary evaluation Lilith stated that she isn't afraid of the dark being alone or her parents he mentions that everyone is scared of something and asks about her fears but the girl turns the question around and asks about his fears instead in response Doug tells her about his childhood when he was stung by a Hornet and has been terrified of them ever since also cilantro and Jar Jar Binks Lilith then reveals that she isn't scared of anything but herself and

what she's capable of doing to others unlike her usual innocent self she appears smug and tells the man directly that she doesn't like him at all she also tells him that he should be afraid of what's going to happen to him later as Doug leaves the office he tells Emily that he has interviewed many children in his life but never felt threatened like this Emily is confused by his words but realizes that there's something wrong with Lilith later that evening Doug is in his apartment when his phone rings he answers it but hears some strange

noises from the other end he then hangs up the call and moments later feels something strange moving in his ears when Doug Digs at it with a cotton swab he is horrified to see a hornet coming out of his ear he immediately throws it away but more Hornets begin to emerge from his eyes nostrils and even his mouth this causes him to act hysterically and in his moment of panic he looks in his reflection and sees jar jar Banks missa covered in bees he then falls to the floor and fatally hits his head the scene

then cuts to Doug's funeral where we see Emily who is devastated Lilith on the other hand doesn't seem to care and tries to hold hands with Emily but the ladder is terrified of and quickly brushes her away the next day Emily watches an interview with Lilith's parents following their arrest in the video Margaret reveals that their daughter is not actually their child but a demon she explains that after Lilith was born all their family members started dying one by one Margaret had two siblings and Edward had three all of whom died mysteriously they are the

only ones left and Lilith won't kill her own parents unless she finds someone else to care for her later Emily goes to the Asylum to meet meet Lilith's parents Margaret appears to be in a State of Trance so she talks to Edward Instead The Man reveals that Lilith is a demon who feeds on kind people and that they tried to kill her to stop this madness he informs Emily that the only time to kill Lilith is when she sleeps which she never does he reveals that on the first night she actually slept they tried to

put her in the oven but Emily intervened at that moment hearing this a terrified Emily returns to speak with Mike and tells him about the situation however he accuses her of sounding just like Lilith's parents and doesn't believe her story he just assumes that maybe she's devastated because of Doug's death and looking for someone to blame disappointed Emily returns home and installs many locks on her bedroom door just like the ones she saw in Lilith's parents' house she also removes all the phones from the house so the demon cannot call anyone Days Later Emily receives

good news from her colleague that a family is willing to adopt Lilith permanently this pleases her and she goes to Edward to share the news however he doesn't think it's a good idea and I have no clue why Emily would either he insists that if Lilith moves to another family she will continue to kill more people and the curse will never end Edward explains that the only way to stop the girl is to eliminate her once and for all he also advises Emily not to fear Lilith because if she's not scared Lilith can't hurt her

shortly after Emily leaves the Asylum Margaret sees a hallucination of her arm burning this freaks her out so much that she ends up unal living herself meanwhile Ed wward hears Lilith's voice in another inmate and brutally attacks him in the neck with a fork when the guards try to stop him he falls and accidentally stabs himself in the eye with the same Fork leading to his death the next day Mike meets with Emily and reveals the phone conversation that Doug had before his death in the recording they initially hear Lilith's voice which gradually transforms into

a demons this finally convinces Mike that the girl is evil so they both decide to finish her off that night when Emily returns home she finds photos of all the victims Lilith has killed and among them is a picture of Mike as well elsewhere Mike takes a gun from his office and heads to his car to leave but moments later he receives a call and hears strange noises on the other end just then a dog appears out of nowhere and begins attacking him he tries to shoot the dog but accidentally shoots himself in the head

and dies we then noticed that the dog wasn't real but Just an Illusion created by Lilith and the fact that he managed to shoot himself in the head was just a skill issue later when Emily learns of Mike's death she is devastated and loses all hope as a last resort she dissolves some sedatives in a cup of chamomile tea she then offers it to Lilith before going to bed just like every night when she believes the girl has fallen asleep she bars the door of her room Emily then pours gasoline all over her house and

sets fire to it hoping that the girl will burn to death surely demons are weak to fire later as the firefighters arrive Emily watches from the street as the fire devours the house she is exhausted but relieved the that the nightmare has finally ended but to her shock she notices Lilith hiding among the firefighters and neighbors who heard the commotion it turns out that the girl suspected her plan beforehand and managed to escape the house before it could burn in the next scene an agent invites Emily and Lilith to a safe place to spend the

night during the car ride Lilith says that she wants to go to a hotel with a swimming pool but Emily takes a different Road and drives her car at high speed the plan doesn't work though as Lilith isn't frightened at all instead she uses her powers and makes Emily relive her most terrible childhood memory her mother driving at high speed in the rain with Emily sitting in the back seat as a result Emily struggles with her own fear in the face of Lilith's Powers but she manages to fight off the memory and convinces herself that

what she's seeing isn't real this causes the image of her mother to fade away and Lilith becomes frightened as her powers have failed for the first time following this Emily drives the car towards AER and crashes it into the water as the vehicle sinks a scared Lilith transforms into her demonic form but Emily prevents her from escaping the vehicle by placing her in the trunk she then attempts to swim to the surface but the demon grabs her foot and stops her from rising after a few seconds of intense struggle Emily frees herself and emerges from
