This is Story Recapped. Today, I'm going to show an action, adventure, drama, and science fiction film called "Enemy Mine. " Spoilers ahead!
Watch out and take care. By the end of the twenty-first century, all of Earth's nations had established peace and cooperated to explore and inhabit space. Earth, unfortunately, was not alone in the universe.
Colonists on Earth came across a species of non-humanoid aliens known as the Drcs, claiming the galaxy's richest star systems. The fight and eventual war between Earth and the Drcs resulted from a dispute about who was first and had the 'legal right' to the universe. During their operations, Four Drc fighter ships approach the Earth space station to commence a raid.
Among the fighter pilots are Davidge and his co-pilot, Wooster. The Earth defenders appear to be winning the battle until six Drc fighter ships join the combat. Echo Six, an Earth fighter, is destroyed by one of the Drc fighters, killing its pilots.
Enraged, Davidge pursues the Drc spacecraft away from the remainder of the action, but the Drc pilot skilfully evades multiple-beam volleys. Wooster alerts Davidge that their ship's motors are overheating and they are approaching the uncharted planet Fyrine IV. However, Davidge is fixated on destroying the Drc ship and the pilot.
Finally, he hits the Drc ship's wing, damaging but not destroying it. In the fog of the upper atmosphere, he sees the Drc pilot eject from its ship but soon loses sight of both the pilot and the ship. Among all the chaos, Davidge saves Wooster from the wreckage, but his ship explodes, including their supplies.
Wooster is severely injured from the impact and dies. Davidge puts up a stone barrow over Wooster's remains and places Wooster's broken helmet atop it as a memorial. He locates the wreckage of the Drc ship and is confident that the escape pod with the Drc pilot is nearby.
As he sets out to kill the Drc, he realizes that he has never seen one of their race before and knows very little about their physique. He only understands that they are reptiles with male and female body parts. As Davidge explores the planet, a long tendril emerges from the sinkhole's bottom, scanning the air for vibrations and odors.
It pulls back and grabs a turtle-like creature's shell, pushing it down into the sand. A gigantic belching sound is heard as the turtle creature's shell is spewed out of the sinkhole, joining other similar shells surrounding the sinkhole's sides. Davidge walks to a lake in an unfamiliar place and discovers the Drc pilot swimming and bathing itself.
It squats by a bonfire after emerging from the water, still recovering from the crash. Davidge gets closer to kill it, but a tiny rock outcropping under his boot falls as he aims his pistol. He clings to the ledges, but his gun slips and falls into the lake below, alerting the Drc.
Davidge stays motionless until midnight when he makes his move. The Drc stows its gun on the broken spacecraft's bulkhead and dives back into the water to resume swimming. Davidge finds a container of flammable fuel, spills it across the lake's surface, and then burns it with a flare.
He reaches for the Drc's weapon, hysterically laughing at the thought that the Drc must be on fire. He convulses upon touching the weapon, discovering that the Drc had placed it in close contact with the ship's exposed circuitry. The Drc stands over Davidge and greets him with a victorious grin after kicking him away from the ship and the weapon.
When Davidge yells the slur 'toadface' at the Drc, it instantly stands up and walks over to him, even though they speak different languages. When the Drc says, 'kos va son Jeriba Shigan! ,' he realizes that the creature has just revealed its name: Jeriba Shigan.
Later, the Drc is asleep when a meteorite hits the ground beside him, setting off a meteor shower throughout the sky. Davidge's terrified screams awaken the Drc, and it utters the word 'zeerki' in its dialect. Jeriba starts running towards the cave but pauses and cuts Davidge's feet free so that he can follow for safety.
Davidge frees his hands on some of the cave's rocks after Jeriba falls asleep again. He takes the knife and appears ready to kill Jeriba, but he can't bring himself to do it when he stares at him sleeping. Instead, Davidge sneaks into the wrecked ship to steal some food despite its horrendous taste.
Out of nowhere, Jeriba pushes him down with his gun drawn on him. Using gestures and body language, Davidge explains that the two of them need to collect whatever supplies they can from the debris. They need to find a safe place for shelter, or they will die during another meteor shower.
Davidge is forced to carry the majority of the remaining supplies so that Jeriba can have his gun ready anytime. They come across a clearing, and Davidge constructs a hut by utilizing what's available to them, but it collapses. During this time, he and Jeriba manage to pick up a few words in each other's languages.
As they camp that night, Davidge gives the Drc a nickname: Jerry. When Davidge is transporting items from the debris to the campfire, one of the turtle creatures appears. He grabs it, but it scurries away fast; while this creature's shell resembles that of a turtle, the rest of its body is entirely different, and it moves quite quickly when it wants to.
The following day, Davidge slips into a pit of loose sand after chasing a turtle-like monster. He stands there in awe as the long pink tendril emerges and sniffs the air for odors and vibrations. Davidge screams in terror, so he calls Jerry while clutching a piece of a tree that sprouts from the pit's edge.
Jerry hears his screams and rushes over to help. Davidge's leg is constricted, and the rough edges of the tendon's tip lacerate his flesh. Jerry clutches his hand and fires, cutting the tendon, just as he's about to be pulled to the bottom of the pit.
The creature's terrifying head emerges with a wide mouth filled with razor teeth. Jerry fires again, this time smashing the creature's head with many shots. Later that evening, Davidge thanks Jerry while the latter heals his wounds.
While the Drc tends to him, Davidge recognizes that the sand creature won't consume the turtle creatures because of their shells. He adds that the shells may even resist meteors and that their low weight makes them ideal for a shelter. The very next day, Davidge collects several shells and constructs a sturdy shelter for him and Jerry.
Jerry places the Talman, a holy booklet, around Davidge's neck. As a tutor, the book must be delivered to the student, according to his kind. They develop an unconventional friendship as time passes by on the unexplored planet.
They learn each other's language and begin to find comfort in each other. One day, another meteor shower occurs, so both of them hurry to safety in their shelter. As they rush to the bunker, Jerry travels much slower and even stumbles.
Jerry becomes defensive soon, and a heated dispute ensues, culminating in a violent brawl. Afterward, they both lay on the ground, and Davidge realizes that both of them are starting to go insane from the isolation. Davidge finally decides to head out and explore the planet to find the source of the sounds and lights that he heard and saw.
On the other hand, Jerry refuses to travel because he believes they are the only ones on the planet. He and Jerry will almost certainly die if he cannot return, so they bid their goodbyes. Davidge jumpstarts his journey by walking out into the glow of a hot lava lake.
He whoops with glee at the sight of empty Pepsi-Cola bottles. He discovers a vast amount of scrap metal, indicating the existence of mining activity on the planet. But Davidge's joy is short-lived, as he discovers a Drc's skull among the trash.
With confusion, he surmises that there may be humans around who take advantage of Drcs for labor purposes. At the shelter, Davidge rejoins Jerry as winter falls on the planet. Jerry is overjoyed to see Davidge and finally tells what has been wrong and why he couldn't leave with him.
Jerry is currently pregnant. Jerry tells Davidge that the Drc people, unlike humans, are hermaphroditic, meaning they reproduce automatically when the time comes. After some time has passed, Jerry begins stitching clothing for the baby.
When Davidge asks if the Drc baby has a name, Jerry responds that the name will be Zammis. While sleeping, the ground beneath them starts to shift, and a little sinkhole appears. Another sand creature had been creeping underground and discovered them.
The tongue wraps itself around Jerry's neck, strangling and dragging him toward the creature's jaws. Jerry thrashes and kicks around helplessly until they manage to escape. Davidge gradually awakens, then abruptly becomes fully alert.
They run out of the shelter as the monster has ruined their home amid the bitter cold. Jerry and Davidge discover a cave deep beneath the earth's surface for warmth and shelter. As they fall asleep again on the ground, Jerry explains that a Drc infant does not fully integrate into their family until it is presented before the sacred council of Drcs on their home planet of Drcon by its parents.
Jerry needs to do the practice for Zammis, or the lineage of Jeriba will end. After some time, it's time to deliver the baby. Davidge is terrified of the idea of losing Jerry, who has become one of his closest friends.
Jerry immediately calms down and urges Davidge to step in as a father for Zammis, increasing his concerns. Davidge must one day complete Jerry's role and bring Zammis before the sacred council on Drc's homeworld and recite its lineage. Jerry is only content when Davidge pledges to carry out his promise.
He slowly goes away and dies, and Davidge can only watch helplessly. Davidge sits numbly, shocked until he sees the birthing sac moving. He opens it and pulls out the newborn Drc infant, Zammis, who he examines with awe.
Months pass and Zammis grows far quicker than a human child, reaching the size of a human adolescent. He is capable of thinking, reasoning, and communicating. One day, Zammis questions their physical differences, so Davidge patiently explains.
Zammis is aware that he is of a different race than Davidge and that he is not his parent, but with no other Drcs to assist him in appreciating his race and people, he wishes he were human. Meanwhile, the scavenger mines are becoming more prevalent on the planet, raising Davidge's concerns. Zammis learns about the scavenging mine and, despite Davidge's warnings, eventually goes there in the hopes of encountering other Drcs.
Zammis explores, perplexed and disturbed by the sight of human scavengers abusing Drc slaves, only to discover two of the scavengers, Stubbs and Jonathan, behind him. The brothers seize Zammis, but just as they take him away, an arrow pierces through Jonathan, killing him. Unfortunately, Zammis runs between Davidge and Stubbs after stepping away, distracting Davidge, who loses his aim.
Stubbs draws his gun and fires a shot at Davidge, which severely injures him. Stubbs takes Zammis and drags him off to the mine as a new slave. Zammis screams as he watches his 'uncle' go down the hill.
Shortly after, two searchlights scour the area and spot the unconscious Davidge. At the Earth station, deceased military personnel are given 'burials in space,' packed in capsules, and launched into orbit to float among the stars. They come across a John Doe wearing a strange necklace with a small book attached to it, and they attempt to remove it.
To their surprise, the body is still alive, and Davidge is sent to another facility. Davidge is transported to sickbay in a medical capsule, where his peers and superiors verify his identity. They are astounded to learn that he is still alive three years after disappearing over Fyrine IV.
Davidge is keen to return to Fyrine IV and rescue Zammis as soon as he is well again. Arnold, the leader of the fighter squadron, is incapable of stopping him despite his authority. When Station ops refuse to release the docking bay doors for him, Davidge blasts them open with his ship's weaponry and flies down to Fyrine to save Zammis.
After landing, Davidge sneaks into the scavenging camp and makes his way to a group of Drcs who are hard at work. He attempts to communicate with the Drcs, asking about Zammis, but to no avail. The Drcs do nothing but stare until a scavenging supervisor arrives and punishes them until they return to work.
Davidge kills the superior, and the eldest of the Drc slaves finally recognizes Davidge. He is the only Drc in the mine that can communicate in English, so he informs Davidge that Zammis is on board the ship. En route to the main ship, Davidge attacks two more scavengers to gain access to other parts of the mine and disguise himself as a supervisor.
He makes his way to Zammis, who is imprisoned in a small cage. Davidge tries to let him out, but Stubbs arrives with two scavenging miners. Stubbs examines Davidge's face closely and recognizes him as his brother's killer, so he captures him.
With all his remaining strength, Davidge retaliates and kills the two miners. He takes out a gun and kills many other scavengers in his way. The Drcs become aware of the commotion and plan a revolt.
Meanwhile, Arnold arrives next to Davidge's ship and proceeds to the camp for the necessary backup. Stubbs shouts to Davidge that he's about to place Zammis into a mining cart on a conveyor belt, which would then drop the young Drc into boiling lava. Davidge fights Stubbs but is constantly distracted by the need to save Zammis, giving Stubbs the upper hand.
Finally, Stubbs knocks Davidge unconscious and shoves him and Zammis onto the mining cart. As he yells and brags, he is slain by a shotgun blast from the elder Drc. Finally, Arnold turns off the conveyor and removes Davidge and Zammis from the trolley.
Everyone looks on in despair as Davidge weeps over Zammis until Zammis tentatively reaches for Davidge's hand. Davidge chuckles in joy, relieved that Zammis is still alive. After some time, Davidge brings Zammis and the other Drcs home to Drcon and fulfills his promise.
He presents Zammis to the Drc's holy council and recites the Jeriba lineage so that Zammis can officially join his people.
