10 COMMON Things Your Living Room DOES NOT NEED!

hi everyone it's Nick welcome welcome back to my channel okay in today's video we are going to be talking about 10 living room items that you do not need these are things that you might have later on the house that you might want to consider letting go you know maybe you're like me and you hold on to things for a little bit longer than you should and it's time to go these are just suggestions if you love these items and you still use them on the daily go for it if you're still clinging to your

physical media in your living room or your old DVD tower like it's 1998 then you just hold on to that thing and don't you listen to me but we're going to talk about the things that maybe I might want to consider getting rid of because I did the top 20 kitchen items and I said in that video If you guys liked it then I'll do another one of the videos and I'll make this a series and um you know me if it works I'm going to ride it till the wheels fall off so we're going

to do a living room and then we're going to do bathroom and all the rooms in the future so let's get going okay first up on my list is going to be mystery remotes everybody has these not only are they like that that TV that you had 15 years ago it ain't coming back and I think when you got rid of it you forgot to get rid of the remote and then you stuck it in the media console or you stuck it in you know whatever you you chucked it on the side of the coffee

table and it's just been hanging out begging for death for the last 15 years because whatever that remote is for you can't figure out where who what it belongs to maybe it was a sound system that you had 30 years ago maybe it is that DVD player maybe it's you know whatever and now it's confusing because then I go to your house like I did even just yesterday and I I went to my parents house and they had three remotes sitting on the Ottoman and I was like I just want to turn off the television

which one works and you don't know because it's a mystery these are mystery remotes you don't know what they're even for anymore they're just hanging out in in the media console or taking out visual clutter sitting there on your ottoman or your coffee table time to pick a remote that works for the TV that you have take a look at your like Electronics pick take the remote that actually works for the electronics that you actually use get rid of the rest of them they're not coming back okay when we need to purge Electronics I think

we need to purge all of the facets of the electronics including the remote so you know get rid of these ones okay and then in the same vein and this one is an even bigger problem let's be real which is going to be the core words and the cables and all sorts of things attached to all the different pieces that have come and gone some of them like USBC might make sense for future in which case maybe they can do double duty and you can have your you know PlayStation USBC thing can also per Ops

work for your iPhone I don't know you know what I mean like you can make it work for multiple things that's fine but some of these are like a power cord for that DVD player we just talked about and it doesn't make sense anymore it's not coming back we need to get rid of it and the problem is and we all do this is that we get rid of the device we keep the cords and the cables and all sorts of whatever they come in they're often times proprietary for that particular device which means they

are not USBC or whatever and they will never be used again for anything else but this one particular device that you just got rid of but you we forget to get rid of it so we shove it in a drawer and then we don't know what it's four but in case that we may need it one day we keep it around because we're just like well I don't know maybe this is something really relevant to me and maybe this is I will need this one day you don't you don't need it if it's not attached

to a device right now like if it's just a cord that's wrapped top sitting in a drawer I we to really take a look and see like do I need this cord do I need also even if it is a cord that I need that I use a lot of like a USBC do I need 12 of them because I every single device that I have ever bought gives me one now do I need that many or can I pair this down a little bit do I need all these all these cables great question I

would think that the answer might be no you don't need them so maybe do a little inventory check take out all those old cords get rid of them you don't need them and as I said when you purge the device Purge all the things Purge the remotes Purge the cables and move on with your life that's electron that's that's E-Waste we can get rid of all that stuff and just pair it down to the stuff we actually need okay next up on my list moving away from electronics for a second is just too many pillows

we'll get to bedroom in in a future video because people y'all have lost your minds when it comes to pillows sometimes but even on even on sofas and side chairs I think sometimes we overestimate how many pillows one needs cuz here's what people do okay and I understand the logic behind it but I'm just going to provide a sober second thought here people tend to go for a very basic boring ordinary couch and I super understand why because it's like it's very expensive and you want this couch to last you many many years and so

you typically will choose something perhaps not stupid like me where you choose a cream couch but maybe you choose something a little bit darker so that covers pet hairs and dirt and things like that and then you're like okay let's just go with a very generic basic gray couch that everybody has it's going to cover up the dirt a little bit but oh it's kind of boring it's kind of blah oopsie did I make a mistake by choosing something really really boring maybe and then it's like well I need to Jazz it up a little

bit and that's where enter new colorful throw pillows from HomeGoods and that's where I think people go wrong is sometimes it's lipstick on a pig do you know what I mean like we're trying to just take a really boring ugly sofa Jazz it up and give it some personality and so that's when we throw on the colored throw pillows these are often times again it's usually a very basic gray couch with like a big pop of teal you know what I mean and that's typically what you see from people or like going to go for

salmon pink or something cuz this is where we're sort of adding in the personality personally I think choosing a sofa that actually works in your design style maybe is a little bit more of an interesting color could be an interesting shape is a better decision and that way you don't need to Jazz it up with sort of those poly filled throw pillows you know what I mean when I do that I mean there's no syn ability when it comes to the pillows you just like push it and it just like Springs back it's like the

really cheap pillows people tend to buy them and they buy too many of them I would think that choosing a throw pillow that actually has some give to it I you know feather down something like that Ikea's got some really great ones I can link down in the description Amazon's got some great ones too right so good quality pillows not too many and preferably on a couch that actually sort of works with your interior design style and isn't just the same kind of generic basic boring one that she bought from Ashley Furniture that's what I

think is probably the best path forward now if you love your couch and you're just like what do I do about the throw pillows I would just go for something maybe that's not that big pop of color cuz I don't think it's giving the personality you think it is instead go for something in a really beautiful material something in a color scheme that is a little bit more in line with the rest of your space and not that pop of color and then something that's a little bit higher quality than the cheap polyfilled one that

you might have so that's what I would advise on pillows and again if you are in the market for a sofa choosing something with a little bit more interest and you might actually find depending on the style of the sofa cuz some of them actually come with pretty large like pillows already you might not even need throw pillows at all and I think that is often times the preferred option or again choosing something you know with a higher quality material or a more interesting sort of pillow than the than the one that you might have

there you go okay next up on my list is going to be like games and puzzles that you just don't like need anymore so this is maybe some of my childhood trauma but like I was really good at putting all the pieces back when it came to board games my siblings were not which is why the Monopoly game never had the dice or any of the cards in it and it was just basically like a board and like half maybe half the cards plus like the top hat figurine and that was it like it pet

peeve people that don't put away all of the board game pieces and I'm left with a like a Half Baked Monopoly game or Game of Life That's doesn't have any of the cash in it or whatever can't stand it it's the childhood trauma it really bugs me so if you have old board games that you don't play or have half the pieces missing because you had siblings like I did or maybe you are like that person that just like loses half of it drives me nuts you don't need the game anymore you don't need the

game it's it's useless it's done you might as well throw it in the garbage because if you don't have the dice or any of the money and Monopoly it's time to go because it's useless and now it's just clutter and it's taking up space in your living room it's taking up space in your closet and you just need to get rid of it so any of the puzzles if you're missing half the pieces it's not a puzzle anymore the real puzzle is why are you keeping it because it's just useless it's it's clutter it's waste

and in future you should take care of your things and uh so should buy siblings and that was that's the lesson here but if you have any of this old stuff that has half its pieces missing then I or you just don't play it anymore like you just don't play it anymore cuz you know you lost too many friendships due to risk I've lost multiple Relationships by the way to um to incidents involving board games I Pro that's actually now that I think about it that might be a me problem but I don't abide cheaters

and I don't abide people that lose their pieces in board games which is why literally more than one relationship has ended because of board game related incidents so it means a lot to me and I'm just saying you might want to get rid of those board games you don't play the ones that cause too much drama and not the good kind of drama and yeah missing pieces and ones you don't play anymore time to go time to get rid of these they they're just clutter at this point okay next up on my list is going

to be media that you don't use which is a lot of people again I referenced you at the beginning of this video the DVD tower people we I I listen I understand it everybody's up in arms now because we don't own our own media anymore you might buy things online from the streaming platforms and you don't actually own it because you're just you're hardcore clinging to your physical media and I respect that you care a lot about this issue but I think the TV tower thing like the little you know what I mean you know

the squiggly 9s tower that I definitely had in my bedroom back in 1997 that is starting to look a little bit dated and it's honestly just adding a lot to your visual clutter that's happening in your space if you are a big fan of the media physical media and that's again like an issue that you've taken up arms for I think there's a lot of real issues out there in the world I'm not sure this is the one that's really moving the needle but if it is for you I hear you I get it I

respect it but I would say there are better ways to it then the squiggly Tower I think that's maybe I think it's just it's honestly just looking really really dated and I would say that if you don't watch any of this physical media like maybe you just don't plan on like reliving you know what is it like I don't know Edward Norton starring in the Hulk like maybe you have that DVD or like Shrek 2 and you're like maybe I don't play that maybe I don't maybe I don't watch it very often you might want

to consider just kind of getting rid of it because it's just it's not something you're going to rewatch you know what I mean they're not all classics not everything can be Harry Potter and the philosopher stone okay not everything can be a classic or Love Actually that you want to revisit all time some of it is just clut that you're never going to watch again stuff you don't watch stuff you don't need DVD cases that are broken scratched old CDs stuff that's on display that ought not to be these are the things that you might

want to consider given the old boot in the living room by the way while we're on the topic of physical media can I just also tack on streaming services that you don't watch I know this isn't like a physical thing that's like affecting your living room I'm just saying you don't need it you know what I mean like Netflix car like cancels every series that we like Anyway Disney plus has like their back catalog but how many times s do you really need to watch some of the Disney Classics before it's unless you have children

but it's probably like not really a monthly thing that you probably need and they have the Star Wars stuff and the Marvel stuff but who can keep track of those universes anymore you know what I mean like I don't have the patience anymore to keep track of all that I've given up years ago and so have you so you know where are we kind of at really with all these streaming services I don't think you need them all Amazon I paid for Amazon why do they constantly say like do you want to rent or buy

this new series didn't that what isn't that why I paid you isn't that why I got the streaming that I don't have to now pay and buy and rent a whole bunch of extra it's like microtransactions on microtransactions get out of here Amazon and then there's the other ones but who cares you know what I mean like I don't know there's like is there the Hulu here in Canada we have our own I don't even know but you know you don't need all of them I would say just like I don't know pick Netflix and

get your free trial or whatever and then use it when you need it and then just get rid of the services that you maybe don't use just your reminder okay next on my list it's going to be like cheap vases from the florist so often times when you get these gift boxes or vases or flowers or things they'll come with these vases or they come with these things that are incredibly cheap and not that uh interesting and I think that if you get them every single time that you receive flowers you have too many of

them so you might have like eight kicking around thinking why why do you need eight vasas for you know what I mean like why you need eight cheap vasas you don't need that many maybe a wedding maybe a funeral but you know honestly if that's what you're saving them for I think you're a hoarder you don't need them for these very very specialized circumstances chances are no one's giving you that many flowers I'm sorry I have to be the one to tell you that maybe you'll date somebody and they'll give you flowers and that's a

wonderful thing but you'll probably get one bouquet at a time you don't need eight so if you have too many of these things that they just like they give you the free laws with the flowers and you just have too many of them then I would consider coloring your collection and going down to maybe one or two and if they're the cheap ugly ones that they give you for free then maybe swap them out for something really cute you know like I like I have ones from Fable I really love them I have a couple

of them they're really fantastic they got a little bud vase which is really cute and then they got one that's a little bit bigger I also actually use those I have two of them and I use them for kitchen utensils but that's beside the point the point is I have them and I have options in terms of if someone were to give me flowers which no one ever does thank you for asking then I have options do you know what I mean but I don't have the cheap ugly ones that they give me for free

so yeah consider calling down your collection going down to one or two that you really enjoy that are actually beautiful and will add to the gorgeous flowers that you just perhaps received and um ditch the rest of the ugly ones okay next up on my list is books or magazines that you don't read magazines are something that you might want to call every once in a while to your little collection because they're incredibly like books are a bit more Timeless but I would say that magazines in particular are really time sensitive and I don't think

we need your People Magazine from 2003 you know what I mean like when we moved my parents to their new house which is not that new it's like honestly they moved there like 20 something years ago we found 19 we had American machinist magazines that my dad has been holding on to since 1970 we moved those to his new house why they're heavy by the way when you pack in too many magazines you don't need this many magazines he still has them by the way at this point maybe they're a collector's item but your people

magazines no one wants them no one needs your Woman's World from 1998 another jab at my mother I need to stop with these my parents aren't even going to speak to me at this point but you know what this is why the because these videos are often times very relevant to them which is why I bring them up a lot you don't need the magazines that are super super old they are designed to be recycled and move along you know what I mean like if you have a magazine talking about like Princess Diana and uh

Charles's wedding it's maybe like it's maybe time to give the boot I don't think you really need that anymore books are similar if you don't read them anymore you know then you have those do you have all those little neighborhood libraries those like give a book take a book little situations that you might have down the street I've got one down the street it's adorable I don't use it but it's there it's adorable then you might want to donate some of your old books there because a Goodwill is another one check first if they'll take

them because sometimes I've tried to give books there and they're like we're done we have too many books so double check that they'll actually take them but you have options okay on where to get rid of some of these old books you don't need them if you have some beautiful books or books that you revisit and you reread all the time like for me I reread Harry Potter every two years that's like all I read then that's cool but if you have books that you've read like seven years ago and you've never touched base with

them again and you know you can't share them with other people CU they don't want to read them because it was a stupid book then you know maybe get rid of it because you just don't really need it anymore they can books can be wonderful again they're a bit more Timeless than the magazines but I do still think that they can be really clutter if you're just they're just taking up visual space and you don't use them you don't need need them okay next up is going to be old candles so this is particularly like

the half Burt candles that have this much wax at the bottom okay I'm not a diyer so I'm not going to give you DIY advice there's other people on the tick tick and the you there's people out there that will tell you how you can take candles burn them down I don't know maybe like throw them in a dishwasher and then you can turn them into I don't know what people turn them into a drinking glass probably I don't know I'm not that creative I don't do DIYs I hate them I'm bad I I don't

do them okay I'm not the person that's going to teach you what to do with an old candle but there are people out there that do that maybe they boil maybe they take a bunch of different candles and pour them all together that sounds disgusting you know what I mean maybe they do stuff like that on there I don't know but there's things you can do with candles that are better than leaving the Half bured ones and just having like a collection of like 17 Bath & Body Works half burnt candles sitting in your uh

sitting uh in in your console or something you just just maybe consider getting rid of those have a candle burn it wait till it's done DIY it if you are so crafty and if not get rid of it recycle it there often times glass the glass is recyclable so give that a go but don't hang on to so many of these half bird ones they look bad and you're not using them so why do you have them okay next up is cards on display now full disclosure right away I'm going to tell you I am

not sentimental when it comes to cards in fact I am notorious amongst friends and family for not caring about cards for not giving them ever unless there's like money in it I'm like don't even it's cards are a vehicle to give money and or checks that's all they really are first of all like my family is British and British people love cards like they're crazy about their cards like they really go intense and hard on the cards which I just think they're stupid like they just basically said like hey Nick happy birthday love always blah

and I'm like yeah cool you could have just said that I didn't need a physical piece of paper to do that so I will say right off the hob I don't like cards in general I don't value them I don't care about them do not send me a card I will probably never give you one if I even know you but let's just also presume you care for cards in which case great it's a thought that counts you got a card that's lovely you don't need to display these cards forever and ever I know people

that keep cards for years and years and listen if it's sentimental value for you and you reread them like actually then maybe like I guess store them and have a good time but I would really question how much you're revisiting all of your old Christmas cards from 2013 I'm going to call your bluff on this one I'm not sure you want I'm not sure you go back and and read them all in which case fantastic those are ready for the paper recycling bin so I think if you've got some of these old cards that you're

hanging on to you think you're sentimental really take a second look and think how often am I actually looking at these things and are they providing any value anymore and if they're not time to go okay and then I'm going to do one last honorable mention here just because I just thought of it and that is uh a bar cart bar carts I'm not saying they're bad I'm not saying you'd need one but it's just something that you maybe don't need I think everybody thinks they need a bar cart because it's always like a product

category on like Katon Barrel's website but you don't necessarily have to have one you can display your glasswar or your Al alcohol consumption in lots of different ways if you so choose you can store it you don't have to tell everybody that you have a drinking problem it doesn't have to be on full display you can hide it a little bit he says as a person who has alcohol behind him do you know what I mean like you can do that you don't have to display it if you choose to Great there's tasteful ways that

you can do it in my opinion but you don't necessarily have to have a bark cart if you have one and you like it and you enjoy it and you like you like bringing it out every time your friends come over in which case that's great it's a choice and and that's great and if you want to bring that out then that's fantastic but you don't need and that's really what this video is about is stuff that you actually really enjoy you can keep if you don't and it doesn't provide value anymore Marie condo that

and get it the heck out of here you may not need a bar cart anymore if you think you need one take a second look if you actually do need one they just might be taking up a lot of space and there might be better ways to display your alcohol and all your little cute little glasses that you bought just a thought do with that as you will okay so that's it for me today guys I hope you really enjoyed this video if you want to think of 20 kitchen things that you might want to
