Jesus, Let Me Be Quick to Hear Your Word and Slow to Listen to the World | Morning Prayer

Before we pray, let's first take a moment to listen to God's word and then we'll pray together. Every day as we go about our lives, countless sounds and messages swirl around us. Voices rise from every direction through our phones, our screens, our conversations, and even our own thoughts.

We hear opinions, advertisements, news, music, and advice, often without even realizing how much of it we are absorbing. Whether you realize it or not, what you hear matters. The words you take in are planting seeds inside you.

Seeds that in time will grow into beliefs, attitudes, and habits. So, let me ask you, what are you hearing the most? What voices have been given the loudest place in your life?

What words are being swn into your spirit day after day? What ideas are you allowing to settle quietly into your heart? I ask you these questions because the Bible speaks about what we hear.

In John 8:47, Jesus makes a striking statement. Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.

Hearing God's word is not just about the physical ability to listen. It's about the condition of the heart. It's about being tuned in like a radio receiver set to the right frequency.

Those who belong to God recognize his voice because their hearts are soft toward him. And then in John 10 27, Jesus offers a beautiful assurance. My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.

He knows his sheep and his sheep, those who truly belong to him, know the sound of his voice. It cuts through the noise. It steadies the soul.

It leads them safely, lovingly wherever he calls. But there's another verse I want you to hold on to today. Romans 10:17.

So faith comes from hearing and hearing through the word of Christ. Faith doesn't materialize out of thin air. It doesn't simply fall into your heart overnight.

Faith is born and strengthened by what you hear. When you consistently hear the word of Christ, when you feed on his promises, when you let his truth echo louder than the world's noise, faith rises inside you. And if faith can grow through what you hear, then it's equally true that a lack of faith can grow through what you fail to hear.

Dear friend, it's not a coincidence that the loudest voices in today's world are often the ones pulling you away from God. The enemy is cunning. He knows the power of repeated messages.

He knows that if he can fill your ears with enough distraction, enough lies, enough halftruths, he can pull your heart subtly but surely away from the one who gives you life. We live in a world full of noise. Voices that celebrate sin, glorify selfishness, and promise fulfillment in everything but God.

Voices that tell you it's normal to choose comfort over sacrifice, self-promotion over humility, indulgence over holiness. These voices don't always shout. Sometimes they whisper in ways that seem harmless.

Chase your dreams at any cost. Follow your heart no matter where it leads. Live for the moment.

You deserve it. But notice something. They rarely, if ever, whisper anything about your soul.

They never ask, "Where will you spend eternity? " They never remind you, "What does God say about this? " The voices of the world are being used by the one Jesus called the God of this world, Satan himself.

And his goal is simple. To distract you. To fill your ears with so much noise that you no longer recognize the still small voice of the shepherd calling you home.

That's why today I urge you. Be honest with yourself. What are you feeding your heart with each day?

Look carefully at the music you listen to. Examine the conversations you participate in. Are they uplifting, pure, and full of truth?

Reflect on the entertainment you consume. Is it drawing you closer to God or pulling you further away? Think about the advice you accept.

Does it align with God's wisdom or simply echo the world's values? James 1:1 19 offers wise counsel. Know this, my beloved brothers.

Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. Be quick not to hear just anything, but to hear the word of God. Be quick to listen for the whisper of Jesus amid the chaos.

Be quick to lean into the Holy Spirit's prompings, allowing his voice to be louder, clearer, and dearer than any other. Because the voice you follow will determine the path you walk. If you follow the world's voice, you'll drift along the wide road that leads to destruction.

But if you tune your ear to the shepherd's voice, you'll walk the narrow, blessed road that leads to life. Friend, you don't have to be swept away by the noise. You can choose to listen differently.

You can choose to let God's voice be the loudest one you hear each day. Now, let's take a moment to pray together. Dear Jesus, there is no voice sweeter than yours.

There is no name more powerful, no presence more comforting, no truth more lifegiving. Today I come before you with a heart wide open, yearning, longing, desperate to hear you speak. Your word promises in John 10:27, "My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.

" What a precious promise, Lord, that you not only speak, but that you know me personally. You don't speak from a distance. You call me close.

You know my fears, my frailty, my dreams, my silent prayers. You know me better than I know myself. Lord, I want to hear your voice above all the noise that surrounds me.

Train my ears, oh shepherd of my soul, to recognize the sound of your leading, even when the world is shouting, even when distractions pull at my heart. Teach me to listen not to my fears, not to the lies that swirl around me, not to the anxious thoughts rising within me, but to your voice of peace, your voice of truth, your voice of life. Help me, Lord, not to deceive myself by only hearing what I want to hear.

Strip away every false comfort, every easy lie, every selfish desire. Make my heart hunger for your pure, holy word. No matter how challenging, no matter how stretching it might be.

Let me long not just for comfort, but for true transformation, not just for affirmation, but for your living truth. Father, I lift my voice to you. Speak to me.

Speak into the silence. Speak through your word. Speak into the deepest places of my heart.

The places I sometimes hide even from myself. Whisper to me about your plans, your purpose, and your unfailing love. And even in the moments when you seem silent, teach me to wait patiently, trusting that you are still working, still speaking, even when I cannot yet hear.

Today, Lord, I ask, silence every voice that seeks to kill, steal, and destroy. Muzzle every whisper of condemnation, every suggestion of fear, every temptation of doubt. Let your voice be the only one that rules and shapes my heart.

Holy Spirit, be my counselor when I am confused. Be my teacher when I am ignorant. Be my corrector when I am wrong.

Be my comforter when I am weary. Jesus, I know the enemy is crafty. He weaves lies into music, into shows, into culture, into entertainment, disguising darkness as light, twisting truth into halftruths that lead astray.

But today, in your mighty victorious name, Jesus, I stand against every lying voice. I rebuke every whisper of deception. I cancel every seed of fear, every root of bitterness, every shadow of despair.

And I declare boldly, Satan has no power over my ears. He has no authority over my heart. He has no claim over my family, my home, or my future.

I belong to you, Jesus, the good shepherd, and I hear your voice clearly. I am listening for you, Lord Jesus. You call me by name, and I choose to follow you wherever you lead.

Your voice alone leads me to green pastures where my soul can rest. Your voice alone restores my weary, broken heart. Your voice alone guides me along paths of righteousness.

Your word reminds me again in Matthew 7 24. Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Lord, just hearing your word is not enough.

You call me not just to listen, but to live it. Not just to know the truth, but to walk in it. Give me the grace to live what I hear.

To be a doer of the word, not a hearer only. Change my heart, Father. Transform my mind.

Renew my spirit. Make me someone marked by obedience, by love in action, by mercy extended, by truth lived out both in the small hidden moments and in the public places. Jesus, make me bold.

Bold enough to stand for what is right, even when it costs me. Bold enough to speak life into hopeless places. bold enough to shine like a star in a dark and crooked generation.

Give me courage, Lord. Courage to proclaim your goodness when others stay silent. Courage to lift high your name when others mock.

Courage to declare with unwavering faith. Jesus Christ is Lord. Jesus Christ is King of Kings.

Jesus Christ is the only way, the only truth, the only life. Thank you, Father. Thank you for hearing every word of this prayer.

Thank you for being the God who speaks, who listens, and who loves me without end. I trust you. I love you.

I surrender my ears, my heart, and my whole life into your hands. Be glorified, Jesus. In every word I hear, in every step I take, in every breath I breathe.
