Gabrielle Union joins. 02:24 - Takeaways From Trump's First Cabinet Meeting 10:45 - First Measles D...
Video Transcript:
[Applause] [Music] leading questions you could ask me or Elon go ahead please the president lets Elon Musk share the floor at his first cabinet meeting where musk admits his chainsaw approach cut into some hazardous areas one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was Ebola Ebola prevention will GOP officials and voters still be on board with the president enlisting Elon to upgrade American official iciency this country has gotten bloated and fat and disgusting and incompetently run Health careless after the first measles related death in a decade claims the life of a school-aged child the
response from Trump's Health secretary RFK Jr raises eyebrows It's Not Unusual we have musal outbreaks every year will that make parents feel any better about sending their children to school plus Gabrielle Union talks about being part of the aless crew in the new movie riff rrap here come Hot Topics with whoopy Sarah Haynes Joy bear Anna [Applause] Navaro Sunny host and Alissa Farah Griffin now let's get things [Applause] [Music] started [Music] me I wow hello hello hello yeah this is a very goodl looking crowd so all kinds of things are going on in the US
right now yesterday GOP officials gathered around the table for the new administration's first cabinet meeting it was dominated by a guy no one voted for right who has also admitted his cost cutting measures haven't always gone according to plan oops oops take a look we will make mistakes we won't be perfect but when we uh make a mistake we'll fix it very quickly uh so for example with uh usaid uh one of the things we accidentally cancelled very briefly was Ebola Ebola prevention I think we all want Ebola prevention so we restored the Evol prevention
immediately let the cabinet speak just for a second million employees have responded so far to this email does that mean that the remaining 1 million or so federal employees now risk being terminated president encourage me via true social uh and also via phone call to be more aggressive those million people that haven't responded though Elan they are on the bubble because they say they maybe they're going to be gone we're cutting down the size of government we have to we're bloated we're sloppy we have a lot of people that aren't doing their job we have
a lot of people that don't [Laughter] exist did that meeting clarify anything for anyone or was it overshadowed by the pissy power Dynamic what what was that I think that Trump is happy right now with this situation be cuz he only ran to stay out of jail yeah you know that was mainly his I think that's true I don't think he ever wanted really the responsibility of the job he he's not really bright enough to handle the job and and Elon must kisses his butt and strokes his his tiny ego or big egole whatever it
is and um and he doesn't get to do he can take a nap while the guy was not born in this country uh who was born under apartheid in South Africa so has that mentality going on he was pro- aparti as I understand it um he a naturalized citizen now he's a naturalized he's a naturalized citizen oh really how did he do that did he come over the board leg in each one Bea he flew in yeah he allegedly overstate that Visa yeah but I think this is just perfectly but wonderful for Trump he's can
take a nap and let this Foreigner foreign agent you know an enemy of the United States do his job anybody else I don't like Elon I wouldn't go as far as to necessarily call him an enemy of the United States yet let's give a little but it's f i this is my grape with Elon Musk there is a world in which having him for free advise the US government could be an asset this is somebody who made incredible Investments with EVS with Teslas with SpaceX I've toured what they've done in NASA he is a brilliant
person when it comes to rocket science engineering not federal Staffing like that we're using him in the dumbest possible way in the way that he is least qualified to be used and it just doesn't really make sense to me my my honest take was a why didn't someone get Elon musica chair he's just kind of hovering over the entire meeting like dressed in all black um but then also cabinet meetings are kind of pointless no actual decision- making happens in them it's kind of especially in the Trump era it's turned into basically everyone goes around
one by one and flatters the president um so it just it felt like an odd sow I didn't really get the purpose of it you thing uh for me you know I think if anyone was still in doubt where the power lies in Trump's new Administration the cabinet meeting made it clear that it wasn't in the actual cabinet the power Dynamic is that we perhaps as you have been saying whoopy have a shadow president um that's what it appeared like to me um no he he was asked to speak first uh uh Trump asked him
to speak first I don't think that's normal um there was minimal input from cabinet secretaries um and dead um all that was highlighted was because I'm thinking yeah what are they going to say yeah me none of them know what they're doing and in fact they were so what I what I got um was that the government is saying that Elon Musk doesn't actually run Doge um that someone else runs Doge but that person wasn't at the meeting and the government has also said that he is a special adviser to the president I think the
bottom line is he is now without question Trump's most powerful adviser well when you said no one else really said anything there was a point in that meeting where uh someone asked about how Elon was being received and he looked at all the cab he goes we all love him here right you better all love him here right and it was like what other person's going to raise their hand and object to this marriage like it's it's a little on the spot but um uh musk has also said about these layoffs that uh anyone who
was not dead could answer the email the massive blaring point he's missing here is some of their direct report box are saying don't reply to the email then you've got the president and Elon mus saying if you're not dead you better reply to that email everyone that's ever worked in any environment knows you don't put in writing things that can be used against you legally so I would never reply to that email until I had clear instruction which has not been given to any of them the other thing is he mentioned uh Elon Musk in
that quote he said something about ebola and how they accidentally laid them off and came back it that's actually that's actually not true the funding has not come through there's a lot of Chaos in that particular place but something else they should remember when they Loosely talk about mistakes is mistakes are important but they should not be halfhazard mistakes when you fire people can't find them because their emails disconnected and you have experts in certain fields that could be paid boou bucks in the private sector you're not exactly en encouraging retention of talent in the
government itself remember when they fire those people who are guarding the nuclear ass about State well I I I don't know I I think part of the problem is you know I get that everybody's very happy he's doing what he said he was going to do but he's actually not he's actually not because if you go through and you say here's where we're bloated here's where we're cutting this is what we need to do but you can't come in a week later and fire everybody when you haven't done the homework you have you have no
idea what's going on you don't know where the bloating is cuz you haven't looked nobody's done the work I don't you know we all say yes it would be nice ni if stuff was small but I tell you what I don't like I don't like the fact that when uh musk Robert uh RFK RFK was asked about uh the measles yeah he it was a very sort of Blas response but it's not Blas to the person who lost their child not Blas and I just feel like there's so much rushing that is happening that people
are we're going to start to see more and more of this kind of thing and I think parents now have to make a decision because now you see the direct correlation of not immunizing your child yeah it requ what what happened we got to go say what what what what say I can't hear you what talk about that we come oh okay okay we'll talk more about this when we come back [Music] [Applause] [Music] this is one of the reasons I love this show go ahead Joy I was just going to say that now I'm
getting some Flack because I said that um musk was Pro aarti I don't really know for sure if he was he grew up at that time when the aparti was in was in fullblown before the great Nelson Mandela fixed that and he was around at that time but maybe he was maybe he wasn't he might have been a young guy too might have been so don't be suing me okay youan they're allowed to say any lie they want but we have to be really strict that's why this show is important yeah it is Sarah remember
I was talking about the measles yes were because there is a growing measles outbreak in Texas which has claimed the life of a school aged kid who had not been vaccinated it's the first time the measles related death is the first measles related death in a decade okay in a decade because they eradicated it okay they got rid of it so we wouldn't have to deal with but all that's old is new again yeah but new Health and Human Services secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr insists there's no cause for alarm take a look we are
following the measles epidemic every day I think there's 124 people uh who have contracted measles at this point mainly in Gaines County Texas um mainly were told in the men andite Community um there are two people who have died there have been four measles outbreaks this year in this country last year that were 16 so it's not unusual we have measles outbreaks every year actually it is unusual because it was eradicated you are not giving out the proper information this is your job dude people are going to die if you if they believe what you're
saying and they don't check now I'm very worried about this reaction yeah uh because I feel like which reaction do you mean all of it all of it that that it's kind of like yeah no this is not a big deal it is a big deal and it is a big deal for mothers expected mothers mothers who don't even know what's that they're pregnant there you have no idea and to flippantly put it off and say no this is you know what happens all the time it doesn't so what you going to do about it
RFK what you going to do well and he's uh RFK Jr is coming on the scene in a time where there's a lot of vaccine skepticism because uh the the virus was really politicized and people started to have doubts it extended beyond the covid vaccine well no it went beyond that though that skepticism LED and bled into other vaccines and so we're actually seeing Most states now are below the 95% vaccination threshold for kindergartens kindergarteners when it comes to uh vaccinations the influenza vaccination rates for children are at their lowest in years at 45% um
it is it is scary because the FDA just cancel a meeting about the flu vaccine for next year they usually need a six-month run to decide so they have manufacturing time to release that so as we're rolling these backs back it is scary because Bill Gates sat right here and said there's a good chance we're going to go through another pandemic in the next 25 years with a 10% chance in the next four years so it's about being vigilant not reading everything you see do your own research and because we're living in a time he
also just didn't have basic facts which I was St by he spoke for maybe 90 seconds he said there were two deaths there was only one death he said This is Not Unusual it is as you said it's been 10 years since an adult died it's been more than 20 years since a child died of measles in this country and then he said that people who are dealing with measles right now are being quarantined in hospitals and the hospitals had to speak out and say no we're treating them do not qu Pati so I worry
to your point because statistically we're likely to have a Public Health crisis in some way this is the man over what's going to take does the entire Republican Congress have to get the measles maybe for them to do something I I think it's going to take uh what we've been seeing which people constituents at Town Halls yeah being affected by these policies but I I want to add something because during his confirmation hearing you know that RFK Jr said he is not an antivaxer he's not going to come for childhood Ood um you know vaccines
well just last week he sort of backt Tred he said he will review the childhood vaccine schedule despite his pledges not to do so he also said which gives me um great pause that anti-depressants may be as addictive as heroin and that uh he is now going to be reviewing the efficacy of anti-depressants and perhaps scaling those back we are in a mental health crisis when it comes to our everyone but especially our young people we have more young people we have more young people um uh depressed and suffering also from anxiety uh and it's
in a on a rise since 2012 I'm terrified I would be listening to this man if I thought he had one iota of medical experience what is he doesn't know he's fired everybody who where are the scientist you fired all the damn scientists you got rid of this one you got rid of that who is checking well they vilify the scientist Look What the they did to Dr fouchy I mean they go after scientists but now we have a a sweeping scale where people are making decisions not based on anything but their attitudes and I'm
okay if you want to do that with your family but with my family I want a doctor any availability to get your vaccine they keep taking stuff down off these sites they keep moving stuff they're taking information out of your hands you just I don't even know what to tell you to do and if you got kids I'm praying for you I'm praying for you because there's a lot of stuff out there that we don't even know is coming that we have to be vigilant about and when we have someone who is like yeah this
is not a big deal I worry so no I know I can do it right now you know tomorrow the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation will observe their annual HIV is not a crime awareness day to find out more go to our website and we will tell you what's been going on because the other places you would get the information on what Elizabeth Taylor's Foundation has been doing those pages have been taken down yes but we'll be [Applause] back clear out your kitchen for a viewy your deal special edition with exclusive deals on foodie finds from

to be intimate with him but I'm sorry if it says don't open me till Christmas or till after I die don't open it because why wasn't he worried about hurting someone 30 years ago when someone else and took a picture because we don't know we don't know if they were married we don't know anything about these married straight they've been married for 50 years change your take I don't because if someone says to you don't it's like going through somebody's phone you want the information cuz you want to get hurt right destroy this if I
something happens to me I do I I do that you talk that you know why because if it says I'm I'm actually believe this or not not a snooper because I think when you start when you have to look through people's things then you're looking for something there's already a problem but if it says don't open me that says open sesame to me that says yes open you rip it up that's why and that's why you no but this man also can we appreciate he went to Great Lengths to protect his historic nudes like through
travels through moves through floods he's like we need to maintain these 30 years 30 years to find what a lousy housekeeper she must be right I mean she does the cleaning yeah but getting mad at her I'm kind of like boo boo yeah because M he's mad he got caught no he's well I'm sure he's mad he got caught also but I'm sorry if somebody says if you ask me not to look at something I'm not going to do it yeah that's why I don't give you anything I I I personally like to leave all
my nude photos right out there i i p them on the refrigerator I want them out there this is why we don't take nudies yeah that's the lesson you got to take nudes well you know you want them it's late for lots of people I mean for young people young people used to take nudes of themselves and pass them all to send them people over the phone that to me was crazy cuz you can't ever get rid of them but with us we take a picture we had to take the picture to get it developed
someone else knew about that pict developers at CVS like oh and what she what she doesn't what she doesn't realize is that these pictures have made the rounds to her whole neighborhood we'll be right back [Applause] welcome back Gabrielle Union is part of an All-Star cast and the new crime comedy RI rap she plays the wife and mom who gets a blast from the past when her husband's ex-wife shows up to disturb the Peace of her country home take a look hi DJ what's going on here well uh Roco and his wife and his mom
no girlfriend girlfriend girlfriend because well you know just because Rocco didn't use a condom you know doesn't mean that you know they're United in holy matrimony right now it is so nice to see you Ruth as always this is unexpected please welcome back Gabrielle un hello hello how you doing well that felt good do it again well I have to tell you I I watched this last night I laughed so much this is such a fantastic movie It's called Riff Raff it's an Allstar cast Ed Harris is your husband and he is looks good in
this movie Bill Murray Jennifer coolage is hilarious hysterical in this movie that's just a few of the people that are in it now you're married to Ed Harris as I mentioned your your holiday with your family goes crazy because his Uninvited family basically shows up you were the one of the first people to sign on to this movie I know now why you said yes but tell us why you said yes the script is so good it's a genre that i' I've never I've never uh done before I mean it's it's a crime Thriller dark
comedy rooted in dysfunctional family Dynamics um like you know playing the oh yeah playing the if you if you've ever been a part of or part of or around Blended families that are not the most functional um I play the second wife yes um and the first family really kind of got shafted yeah and it's like what happens when they you know kind of Slam up against each other and it is so good and I got to kiss at Harris oh man he's really aging like a fine F listen he comes on said he's so
like confident you know those people who have to tell you how confident they are he's so quiet he has a ranch out in malib and he does his own ranch work and when he talks about his wife his eyes sparkle and he plays the guitar I mean like like I was like and he was like yeah I was chopping wood I'm like I bet I bet their footage like come on come on you've been robbed of your sexy like we need to give him his sexy man flow everybody knows that that has always been and
will forever be he will be 157,000 years old and still fine as hell I had to rewatch The Abyss after I watched your movie you fell into the abyss yes so Gabrielle let's talk about you personally because I'm interested in what you have to say you've had a lot of success in your career but everybody should know that no matter how many successes you have you've been rejected many times especially as an actor daily and I'm curious how how you deal with rejection we talk about it here a lot about people dealing with that in
the beginning of my career I did not deal with it well it just felt like like your mother turning away from you when you're crying out for help is what every rejection felt like no matter how good or bad the job was over time you realize that a lot of those rejections are actually protection they're situations that whether it's just Happ St wasn't meant to be but it was I was protected from things that that were happening on those sets but also it's the power of no you know what I mean some of those rejections
that's you you needing to be like I don't want to be a part of that you don't see my value you don't see my full self you want slivers of me to show up and I'm showing up fully me and fully free and you don't see the value and I don't want to be here that's right yeah so some of those rejections are self owned sometimes has nothing to do with anything but they need a different type or you know listen I mean now that I'm a producer so many of these decisions have nothing to
do with anything certainly not Talent there was somebody who came in and they had the same perfume on as someone's ex-wife oh gave the best read but and they were rejected and they were rejected so now you but you're going home you're like I got to be better I got no you just what was the perfume I won't wear it what was I don't even remember but it was so like that's why that the best it has nothing to do with anything most of the time well I want to mention you and whoopy are featured
the upcoming documentary called number one on the call sheet the trailer dropped today um focuses on the contributions of black leading men and women in Hollywood um why was it important for you to be part of this project and what does it mean to you to be at the top of a call sheet well it was important for me to be a part of this project because I don't think we get celebrated enough for how hard it is to make it to number one on the call sheet there's so much Blood Sweat and Tears that
get to that point but once you're there this is why I really wanted to be a part of it is because for me it there's a a huge responsibility that comes with that if I'm hearing that the teamsters check is late that I find that that's my responsibility as the person who is the most powerful person in the crew if I hear that someone's being mistreated if you don't like catering I feel like it is my responsibility to make sure that this uh experience is good for everybody I stay in business Affairs I'm fighting for
your credits I'm for your check um that's how I move as number one on the call sheet and I hope more people uh don't just take it take it as like an ego thing like I'm number one and that's where my responsibility begins and ends for me no when you finally are that person be that person right don't get comfortable you know what I mean hope you said that you've said that many times because you know the crws know more than we'll ever forget absolutely they have been on zillions of of places when you have
people who who take the time in and they they come and they want to be the extras on your movies you got to make sure they're treated well yeah because you want to show people how you roll and be an example and you know listen number one on the call sheet you still have to pay to get on the train yep okay you still have to pay to get on the bus you still have to pay to pay for your groceries that that it it is only meaningful in our tiny little world but we are
as people is everything and that's I think what what Gabrielle is talking about because we have to we have to roll the way we want to be rolled towards right you know well and and something else amazing is your daughter cavia and we love to talk about her she is 6 years old now and in January she took this really cool opportunity to perform at an LA Rams game now how did that come about and what was it like to watch her do this well okay so she was asked as a part of a number
of different dance companies throughout Southern California um to be a part of this you know show in front of a Rams game we're like oh my God this sounds amazing we thought there were classes that she would physically go to where a human being is teaching her these moves oh my gosh no not at all they sent us with a video to learn this two plus minute you know routin it's a long time she's never done anything more than a minute and that takes 6 months you know so yeah so we're on vacation you know
like with this video and we're like I guess she'll watch it 30 minutes a day and it got to where she wasn't really progressing and D was like we got a pull her we got a pull her and I'm like no this is a part of learning you want to be on stage you got to put it in and then he was like okay then he turns into Debbie Allen he he had this child watching that dang video and I bet you he knows every move oh he does know every Mo bet on this side
of the camera he was she was not about to go outside he was like and then when she was performing we like on the thing and she's not looking at him and he's like yeah I was like baby knock it up but she she loves to perform and she she's very serious about it very serious about maybe not a serious not as serious as H he was like you want fame fame right here is where you start sweat we're going to go and come back with more with Gabrielle y [Music] hey we are back with
the fabulous Gabrielle now I have to ask you you and and Dwayne are raising incredible kids incredible kids your stepdaughter Zia is on the cover of 17 magazine this month I mean unbelievable she really has become an inspiration to um so many in the transgender community I hear from from kids I hear from from uh adults how proud does she make you um because she's standing up for so many people there's so many things that she does that makes us so proud I mean the the the cover of 17 magazine that's just like a cherry
on top yeah uh at her school her teachers write about like basically what they feel about each student and every time her teachers write about her they're like I'm actually crying as I'm writing this you are such a pleasure in class you add so much to the school Community like it's that that makes us so proud she's a good human being you know she's she's going to be off to college next year she's she's a potential astrobiology major you know so it's like who she is is amazing but it's because we love her so much
and we protect her freedom and her humanity and her rights that she's allowed to Blossom yes and so when when we get compliments on on who she is and and who she stands for who she who she represents it's not just the LGB lgbtqia community like elderly people come up to me I wish my parents gave me the freedom to live my my full truth and to reach my full potential and I'm so glad she's doing this at such a young age so she's she's inspiring so many people to live their complete truth and we
are more than proud well um changing a little bit your husband Dwayne was recently uh revealed that he'd been diagnosed with kidney cancer and had surgery at the end of 2023 and I know it was so hard for him um to let you and the family all of you see him in that weakened State what was it like for you to see him and how's he doing I think I I was in such shock when he told me the diagnosis you hear cancer it it you're paralyzed because you think of the absolute worst case scenario
I I've had so many friends who've who are cancer survivors I didn't go there no I went to he's gone and so it took it took of us a while and he didn't tell everybody he didn't even tell our whole family he really wanted this to be very under the radar he didn't tell any you know anyone he better and so yes he's had the surgery and he's cancer free but it was it was a challenge it was a challeng so I have to tell you RI is in theaters tomorrow and we also at this
table because we all are aware of these folks we wanted to mention the passing of Jee Hackman and Michelle tractenberg brilliant actors wonderful actors and they will be missed yes um and count your blessings we'll be right back as Black History Month promised to a close we want to take a look back at the black women in diverse fields that we featured who have pushed us all forward and pay tribute to one more the late great amazing Judith Jameson Jameson began studying ballet at the age of six and spent her career fighting discrimination as a
black ballerina after choreographer Alvin Aly watched her fail in audition for a TV special with Harry bellafonte in 1965 AI asked her to join his company she became a breakout star snagged a lead role in Broadway's sophisticated ladies and founded her own group The Jamison project but she returned to Alvin Ali as a choreographer and was appointed artistic director after his passing in 1989 Judith has has received the national medal of artarts and a Kennedy Center Honor but today we want to celebrate her Legacy with the dance that made her a star she was ay's
Muse when he choreographed the iconic 16 minute solo cry in 1972 a piece he dedicated to all black women everywhere especially our mothers so the Alvin American dance theater is on a coast to coast tour right now celebrating Jam life and cultural impact find out more at our website and then take a little time to enjoy the view but first we're going to honor Judith Jameson and all the women we featured this month with a performance of Cry by the Alvin Aly American dance [Applause] theater save your child [Music] I don't want to go again
[Music] I to [Music] see my a little just a little Lord Lord Lord will I be here tomorrow night [Applause] [Music] yeah we [Music] [Music] then we [Music] [Applause]
