oversized clothing now I know we all love our cozy oversized sweaters and flowy dresses but let me tell you oversized clothing can be tricky for shorter women the problem is oversized pieces add unnecessary bulk making your frame disappear you end up looking like you're swimming in fabric which can make you appear even shorter and wider than you actually are not the look we're going for right instead of oversized go for more structured tailored pieces a fitted jacket or a nicely tailored blouse will give you shape and still allow you to look stylish these tailored pieces
create a much cleaner elongated silhouette without adding volume when you Embrace more structured clothing you'll notice that your outfits look way more refined and you'll feel more put together it's about choosing clothes that work with your body not against it and don't worry you don't have to sacrifice comfort for style there are tons of tailored yet comfy pieces out there that you can easily incorporate into your wardrobe and because I want to make things easy for you I've linked some of my favorite tailored pieces in the description box below so if you're ready to ditch
those oversized clothes and try something that actually flatters your shape be sure to check those out mistake number six wearing the wrong length for dresses and skirts here's a mistake I personally made for years before I figured it out shorter women should be more careful about where your skirts and dresses hit those midcalf lengths that are super trendy right now can do more harm than good if you're not tall anything that cuts you off at the widest part of your calf or just below the knee can make your legs look shorter and thicker than they
actually are it's not about avoiding these skirts alt together it's about choosing the right length instead opt for knee length or just above the knee skirts to create a more balanced elongated look if you're really set on wearing midi skirts go for high-waisted options and pair them with a pair of heels or streamlined flats this helps create a vertical line that keeps your look from feeling choppy or cutting off your legs and let's be real we all love a good midi dress for Comfort but it's about wearing it in a way that flatters not shortens
remember it's all about where the hemline hits and how you style it I've made the mistake of buying midlength dresses that did nothing for my legs but once I found the right length it was a total game Cher so if you're ever unsure knee length is your safest bet mistake number five wearing bulky shoes this one is a sneaky mistake it's so easy to fall in love with trendy chunky sneakers or bulky boots but the truth is these shoes can work against you if you're trying to elongate your frame heavy Footwear adds visual weight and
can make your legs look shorter and stockier especially when paired with long skirts or wide leg pants instead of opting for those bulky shoes try something a bit more streamlined think pointed toe flats simple heeled sandals or even ankle boots with a more fitted shape these will help elongate your legs and make you look taller a little lift from a heel doesn't hurt either but you don't have to go for stilettos even a slight heel will do wonders for how your legs look in an outfit if you want more tips on dressing for your height
especially when it comes to Footwear check out my previous video on how to dress if you're a short woman over 50 I covered even more style strategies that will help you feel confident and look amazing the link is in the description below mistake number four wearing wide leg or baggy pants I know wide leg pants can be super trendy and comfortable but if you're on the shorter side they can easily overwhelm your frame and make your legs look shorter the key here is balance you don't have to avoid wide leg pants altogether but there's a
way to wear them so they actually work for you if you love wideleg pants opt for high-waisted Styles and make sure to pair them with a fitted top this combination creates a balanced look that gives you some volume on the bottom without overwhelming your frame also vertical details like pleats or seams can help elongate your legs and create that long lean look if you're unsure straight leg pants are always a safe bet especially if you want to avoid looking shorter personally I found that high-waisted pants paired with a tucked in top top creates such a
flattering silhouette for shorter women I've linked some of my favorite high-waisted and straight leg pants below so if you're in the mood to try something new check them out mistake number three low waisted pieces lowrise pants can make your torso look longer and your legs shorter which is something we want to avoid high-waisted pieces are honestly a shorter Woman's secret weapon by raising the waistline you create the illusion of longer legs if you haven't already give high-waisted pants skirts or jeans a try and you'll notice an immediate difference I know a lot of women feel
like high-waisted pieces might be uncomfortable but it's all about finding the right fit when you find a good high-waisted piece that hugs your waist without being too tight it actually feels super flattering plus you'll love how what makes your legs look longer whether you're styling pants skirts or even shorts the highwaist is a total GameChanger for petite frames I've linked some of my go to high-waisted pieces in the description box below these items will work wonders for your silhouette here's a question for you do you prefer high-waisted or midrise pants I'd love to hear from
you in the comment section below now moving on to mistake number two wearing big prints prints can be tricky especially for shorter women large bold prints can overwhelm your frame and make you look smaller by comparison this doesn't mean you have to give up prints entirely but it's important to choose prints that work for your size opt for smaller more delicate patterns that don't take over your look when you keep the scale of your print in check you'll notice a big difference in how balanced your outfit looks florals polka dots and even animal prints can
be great as long as you choose smaller versions that fit your frame a small scale print helps keep your outfit proportional and ensures that the focus is still on you not just on the fabric I love incorporating Prints but I've learned to be picky about which ones I wear now as promis here's one of the biggest mistakes shorter women over 50 make not defining your waist if you're wearing boxy or shapeless clothes without a defined waistline it's going to make you look shorter and wider than you are I see this a lot with tunic tops
or loose dresses that just hang when you skip defining your waist your body can look boxy or shapeless which in turn can make you appear shorter adding definition at the waist helps create an hourglass shape elongating your frame whether you're wearing a dress a top or a pair of pants cinching your waist can make a huge difference sometimes even a subtle tuck or a well-placed seam can do the trick belts wrap dresses and even high-waisted pants are great ways to Define your waist without making your outfit look fussy so if you've been struggling to find
that extra t that makes your outfit feel complete this is it defining your waist will not only elongate your frame but also bring balance to your entire outfit and if you enjoyed this video I have another one you'll love I made a full video on how to dress if you're a short woman over 50 where I share even more styling tips specifically for shorter women
