Por que a hipertensão é tão perigosa? Como identificar a pressão alta, antes que seja tarde demais? ...
Video Transcript:
Why is it that every time you go to the doctor he comes with that device that squeezes the arm to measure if the pressure is ok? Why is measuring pressure part of every checkup procedure? What's so special about blood pressure?
Okay, you probably shouldn't have even bothered to ask that question. But what if I told you that more than half of people who have high blood pressure don't know they have it and most of those who know it don't get the treatment right? Do these people realize how dangerous hypertension is?
I’m Lucas Zanandrez, Biomedical and in today's video I’ll explain why high blood pressure is the main preventable risk factor that can lead to death from cardiovascular disease and has been one of the most responsible for taking so many young patients to the ICU by COVID . As you are already used to our rigor to present real science to you, I only ask you to subscribe to the channel if you are not subscribed to accompany me in this battle for scientific dissemination and leave that like, because you know that good things will come for you Ouch. To say that someone has high blood pressure, or hypertension, people, is different from saying that someone has high blood pressure.
For example, if you are a healthy person who went for a run, for a few moments, your blood pressure, which is the force that the blood exerts on the vessel wall, will increase. That's because your heart is beating faster, making more blood pass through the vessels faster to increase the amount of oxygen that your cells receive during an effort. Or when you are worried, anxious, your pressure also increases as a reflex preparing you to run away from a possible threat, thanks to the evolution of our ancestors who had to worry about predators all the time.
And this is normal, you have high blood pressure. But having chronic high blood pressure, that is, every day in situations of rest is what characterizes hypertension, a public health problem that affects an incredible 1 in 4 adults in the world. But it was not always so.
As strange as it may seem, before the industrial era, blood pressure levels in the population were very close to 11 by 7 or 12 by 8, which is considered normal for humans. But in contemporary society, a very strange phenomenon is happening. In every corner of the planet, the population's blood pressure is increasing, on average, as people are getting older.
I wonder why? With the advancement of the industrial era, we had access to faster means of transport without having to move a foot to get from one place to another. Just click on your cell phone to access a transport.
We don't even need to walk to the taxi stand. The hustle and bustle of everyday life has made people eat less and less carefully, putting foods high in sodium, high in fat and increasingly relying on drugs to maintain their productivity. Society is getting overweight and sick.
And the main consequence of this is hypertension, which is the result of several factors, among them the excess of sodium in the blood, the inflammation generated by pollutants that we breathe from the air, the obesity that triggers an inflammatory state that damages blood vessels and releases substances that culminate in increased pressure, anyway . . .
a sick society is going to be a society with high blood pressure. And hypertension is more common in people from higher social classes, who live in cities and who are more obese. There are also some genetic factors, which are uncontrollable (until now, right, because they have already developed a genetic engineering technique that can revolutionize our lives, but I already told you in this video here).
Ok, but why is hypertension so dangerous and why should you worry about it, even if you are a young man under 30 watching this video? Guys, having high blood pressure in a chronic way puts the person in a state of extreme alertness to the risk of having some cardiovascular disease, such as heart attack, stroke and kidney problems, erectile dysfunction and even loss of vision! And all of these problems arise from the simple fact that having the blood press against our veins and arteries with more force than normal is not a very good thing.
Just look. With aging and unhealthy living habits that we have today, it is normal to have some degree of impairment of the arteries over time. These microscopic damages, caused by free radicals, toxic substances, inflammation generated by diseases are evolving, damaging the vessel walls, which can have some consequences.
The first is the stiffening of the vessels, which already reduces the space that the blood has to pass, which increases the blood pressure since the same amount of blood has to pass in an increasingly smaller space. And the second is another consequence a little more complex, which is atherosclerosis, which is the formation of a plaque of fat, calcium and cells in the part of the vessels, which is very common in obese people and which can lead to complete obstruction of the vase. But in most cases, until reaching this total obstruction which would lead to a heart attack, there is a compromise in the space where the blood passes, also increasing the pressure.
And this process can happen in all the vessels in the body. These lesions impair circulation in the vessels of the kidneys, eyes, and sexual organs and can impair a number of systems together. But in any case, the consequence is hypertension.
With high blood pressure, the heart needs to make more effort to be able to eject the blood and nourish the body's cells with oxygen. And what about the muscles that make a lot of effort? This one is for those who like the gym.
That's right! The muscles grow, including the heart. And this growth of the walls of the heart can tighten the muscle, causing heart failure.
So, the continuous effort of the heart to bring blood to an increasing pressure is damaging not only the vessels, but also the heart muscle. And high blood pressure alone also causes the blood to exert a greater force on the vessel wall, generating more of those microlesions that further accelerate the stiffening process and atherosclerosis, which will cause more heart failure, potentially heart attacks and spills. And now, right, people, with COVID, you can’t even mention it, hypertension has been one of the most important risk factors for the worsening of the disease.
As has been seen by scientific studies, COVID also attacks blood vessels, generating a state of inflammation that can be aggravated if the person already has hypertension and can favor the appearance of clots, thrombi and even heart attacks and strokes. Wow, was this video supposed to be done in an animated tone? [Lucas and how do I know that I can have hypertension?
] Look, the main symptoms of hypertension are dizziness, shortness of breath, feeling that your heart is pounding, you know? Frequent headache and when the view is darkened frequently. But the most efficient way to know, is to actually measure your blood pressure frequently and if you are above normal at rest, see a doctor.
I left the link for a device that you can buy that has the INMETRO seal to use at home in the comment posted. Hypertension is when blood pressure is above 140 by 90 on the device's display in a sustained, frequent way, at rest. The first number that appears, the largest, is relative to the maximum blood pressure when the heart is contracting and the smallest number is the blood pressure when the heart relaxes.
We speak 12 by 8, 11 by 7, 14 by 9, but it's just a quick way to speak, without the zero. The right is 140 for 90, 120 for 80 and so on. It is essential that you consult the doctor to guide you on the causes of your hypertension, if it is genetic, if it is caused by some underlying disease or obesity and what is the beauty treatment?
Guys, now that you know what hypertension can do to our health, I think my mission here is to explain to you what you can do to not have to reach the level of having to take medication to control the pressure, which is often, depending on the case, irreversible. But first, I wanted to tell you that the reason I made this video is that on April 26th , it was the national day to prevent and combat hypertension that was created to make people aware of the dangers of these diseases. As I told you at the beginning, more than half of the people do not know that they have high blood pressure and that they are at risk of developing all that I said.
So, I ask you, click on like to strengthen my work here and make this video reach more people. Seriously, when was the last time you took your blood pressure? You see, you can have high blood pressure and not even know, so take care beauty?
But how to protect yourself then? Well, folks, it is known that overweight and obesity are one of the main factors that lead to hypertension. Stress, age and also the family history of people who have hypertension in their family also influence it.
Apart from the genetic factors, all the others can be controlled. That is why hypertension is known as the most important preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease. A healthy diet, without excess salt, coupled with physical activities and frequent leisure moments can make all the difference.
Resolving obesity, poor eating habits and also the use of cigarettes and alcohol, which are so associated with damage to blood vessels is the best way to prevent hypertension. Closed? Additional information from the Ministry of Health I also left in the comment , as well as the members of the channel know that this is where all the references of what I said here are.
And you can also support my work by becoming a member and by contacting me directly via the group on the telegram. How about making this work go further? In case it is not the moment, if you arrived on the channel because of the interest in better health , take a look at this video in which I explain what will really increase your immunity according to science or in this related video that YouTube recommended for you .
Subscribe to the channel for more content like this, a big hug and see you in the next video! Goodbye!
