What is acne? Acne is an inflammatory process of the skin, which happens when some sebaceous glands become clogged with oil and dead skin. When these cells become clogged, they cannot eliminate impurities and end up serving as a focus for bacteria and even more oil, resulting in blackheads and pimples, which are characteristic of acne, as well as nodules and pustules, in the most serious cases.
In addition to the face, there may be other spots where acne manifests itself, such as the back and chest. Acne is usually more common in adolescence, as sex hormones tend to promote greater production of oil in the skin, which ends up increasing the inflammatory condition. Although most cases of acne resolve spontaneously in the second decade of life, there are exceptions and some people continue to experience symptoms well into adulthood, up to about age 35 or even later!
It develops in people with a hereditary tendency, which means that if both your father and mother had acne, you are more likely to have it too. But, you can be the first to have pimples in your family, as well as all the siblings or only one of them can have acne-prone skin. There are different types of acne, and some can present themselves in a more expressive way.
Acne treatment should be sought as soon as possible to avoid permanent marks on the face. What can cause acne? As I said, acne arises when there is an obstruction in a hair follicle, due to the increase in sebum, which favors skin inflammation and bacterial proliferation.
But I will talk now, stimuli that provoke even more and that can trigger: 1. Hormonal causes Among the factors that can aggravate acne, we have male hormones and hormonal changes related to the menstrual cycle, with the use of oral contraceptives, or those that occur during pregnancy. An example: acne exacerbation may occur 2 to 7 days before menstruation.
Androgen hormones, despite being called male hormones, are present in both men and women. They induce sebum production and are an important factor in the development of acne, this explains why it is so prevalent in puberty and adolescence. On the other hand, acne becomes less common after age 40, especially after menopause.
2. Diet and lifestyle Although some studies suggest that acne can be aggravated by the consumption of milk or foods with a high glycemic index, “sweets”, the truth is that the role of diet in acne is still not completely understood. 3.
Bacterial infection and inflammation Cutibacterium acnes is a bacterium that commonly lives in our skin and intestines. It feeds on sebum and keratin from cells that shed from our skin and accumulate in follicles. This generates its proliferation and inflammation of the follicle.
4. Psychological factors Stress and anxiety do not cause acne, but when this disease is present, these factors can make it worse. 5.
Hereditary causes I mentioned this factor before, but let's repeat it to be clear… Close family members of individuals with acne have a higher risk of developing this disease, which suggests that acne has a genetic or hereditary component. 6. Medications Some medications, such as steroids, lithium, androgens, phenytoin and isoniazid, can make acne worse.
There are many cases of acne induced by the use of anabolic hormones. 7. Other causes Other causes include skin contact with oily substances or with some cosmetics, as well as skin rubbing by cell phones, helmets, masks and so on.
What are the types of acne? There are different types of acne, I will explain more about them: – Newborn acne: Newborn babies can have mild acne, caused both by hormones that are passed from the mother, through the placenta, and by the stress of childbirth . It usually passes naturally, in a few days after birth.
– Grade 1 acne: formed by blackheads and pores that have a more open appearance. – Grade 2 acne: in addition to blackheads, the patient also has some pimples, some of which have pus, – in addition to the reddened and inflamed appearance. – Grade 3 acne: it happens when the patient also has more hardened nodules and cysts under the skin, in addition to pimples and blackheads.
– Grade 4 acne: includes, in addition to the previous signs, nodules and cysts that can become abscesses, leaving permanent marks and scars on the patient's skin. What are the symptoms? It can appear in different ways: * whiteheads, which are clogged sebaceous glands, with their orifice closed; * blackheads, which are clogged sebaceous glands, whose orifice is open.
Oil turns dark when exposed to air; * pimples, which are red, inflamed, infected sebaceous glands, sometimes filled with pus; Some pimples can be painful, and in severe cases, cysts, which are fluid-filled bumps, can develop under the skin. I'm still going to give tips on how to avoid, treat and pass a homemade recipe that will definitely help a lot to solve this problem. But so far, you can understand a lot about acne, right?
! So leave your like, subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications. So you don't miss any new videos.
Oh, and share this content, I'm sure it can help a lot of people. Take a screenshot and share it on instagram by tagging me… I'll repost you there. So let's go back now… What is acne treatment like?
Acne treatment directly depends on the type of acne a person has and aims to keep dirt and oil out of the pores, thus reducing inflammation. It is generally effective and allows for the resolution of injuries and improvement in self-esteem. It should be started as early as possible to avoid scarring, which is often difficult to correct.
Treatment is usually prolonged, with results being observed only after one or two months of treatment. Treatment should be individualized, depending on factors such as acne severity, type of lesion, and patient tolerance. Therapeutic options include: = Topical treatments: - eg cream, gel or ointment, such as retinoids, antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid or salicylic acid; - Oral medicines (pills), such as isotretinoin or some antibiotics; - Oral contraceptives and other treatments that act at the level of hormones; - Treatment with laser or phototherapy; - Skin exfoliation or microabrasion; - Peelings.
. . Just to name a few possibilities.
An important tip: People with acne should use specific types of sunscreen in order to prevent further clogging of the sebaceous glands. Many of the treatments available can have side effects and, therefore, it is important for the dermatologist to define the most appropriate option for each case. Tips to prevent acne The ideal thing is for you to consult a dermatologist and make an appropriate treatment for your problem.
But some precautions you should take are: – wash your face 2 times a day with a mild, neutral soap; – wash your hands frequently, and avoid touching your face unnecessarily; – do not rub the skin or squeeze the pimples so that scars do not appear; – do not rest your face in your hands while you read, study, or watch television; – try to keep your hair away from your face; – avoid the sun and don’t forget to use sunscreen suitable for your skin type; – although no studies have proven a link between acne and diet, some people have noticed that their acne worsens after eating certain types of foods. Try to keep a record of your food and see if there are any foods that make your acne worse; – do not miss follow-up appointments with your doctor. Keep a record of the treatments you've used, and how they work.
There are many alternatives for you and your doctor, so don't give up! Homemade recipe to help control pimples For this recipe you will need a little piece of aloe vera, which is aloe vera, it helps fight inflammation and recover the skin. You will remove that gel that is in the middle of the aloe and put it in a little pot with water that will remove the aloin, which is an irritating substance that is in the aloe.
Then you will need a piece of ginger, which is a very potent anti-inflammatory. And about 8 mint leaves. It is bactericidal and fungicidal, it will help you a lot.
You will put all the ingredients in the blender or crusher, along with 150 ml of water and half a dessert spoon of coconut oil, which is also fungicidal, bactericidal and will also hydrate your skin. Whisk everything until it's very liquid, then you'll strain it and it's ready. You will use this lotion twice a day, morning and night.
You will wash your face with appropriate soap, and then apply this lotion. Soak a cotton pad well with the lotion and spread it all over your face, you can leave it really wet. And you will leave it on the skin, do not rinse.
You can sleep with it on your face. In the morning, the same process, wash your face with soap, apply this lotion and then apply the sunscreen. I want to remind you that every treatment for acne, whether medicated or through more natural recipes, has a variable result, depending on each patient and requiring, most of the time, a medical follow-up.
Well, I think these tips and this recipe will help a lot, so share with those you know who need these tips.
