Kids Who Talk Back | Brian Mendler, That One Kid

what's up everybody my name is brian mendler and i am a former self-contained special ed teacher turned teacher coach slash personal trainer and today we are talking about my favorite response to a kid who says you can't make me check it out alright everybody welcome back and that is a response often that we hear from kids when we ask them to do a task that they're not really interested in you can't make me and the truth is we can't we can't make them we have the ability to influence kids but we do not have the

ability to force them to do things and so my response anytime a kid says you can't make me is the same every time ready and it sounds like this you're right i can't only you can make yourself good luck trying i'll be here if you need any help and then walk away by the way as you're walking away almost every single time what will a kid do under their breath as you're walking away remember they'll do the little mumble grumble under the breath well they're not whatever mr milner i hate your goods anywhere you do

them skinny but really of course what they're saying is excuse me mr manler but right now right now i have to call you a couple names under my breath because if i don't i'm gonna look like a wimp in front of the entire class and i can't look like a whip in front of the entire class everyone knows that so could you please be the mature adult with a college degree and continue walking away from me because i have to eat lunch with these guys and i have to ride the bus with them and i

have to be on the playground with them and i have to play sports with them and i have to be around them all day long after all mr meddler what do you tell us to do when someone calls us a name on the playground you tell us you just turn and walk away well how come you can't after all mr mather what do you tell us to do when someone says something to us that we don't like you tell us to just ignore it well how come you can't and if you did i would really

appreciate it thank you very much sir that is what they are saying in the only way they can say it but understand predictability know what kids are gonna do before they do it and as they're walking away they'll do the little mumble don't let that stop you my mother used to have a phrase that she used to say in it and it was that a little rain doesn't stop the airplane and you are the airplane fly through it you're right i can't only you can make yourself good luck trying i believe in you i'll be
