185,000 soldiers could not defeat this Angel The Mighty ancient Assyrian Empire believed to be modern Iraq led by the fierce King senak Carib was sweeping through the region leaving a trail of conquered lands and Broken Spirits their reputation for brutality preceded them and the people of Judah trembled at the news of their approach soon the Assyrian army strong and brave encamped around Jerusalem their tents stretching as far as the eye could see this is one of the greatest stories in Scripture it is an example of God's intervention that we need to hear to put our
fears and worries in the ground and bury them away forever now this brings us to the story of the besieged king whom the countless soldiers of Assyria were waiting to destroy King Hezekiah of Judah in the third year of hosia son of elah King of Israel's Reign Hezekiah Rose to the throne it was a time of both Peril and potential his father King ahaz had led Judah down a path of idolatry and alliances with Pagan Nations hezekiah's early life was shadowed by his father's unfaithfulness to the god of Israel despite his lineage Hezekiah emerged as
a beacon of Reform and righteousness from the beginning of his Reign Hezekiah set himself apart from his predecessors he was determined to restore the worship of Yahweh and cleanse Judah of its spiritual corruption in the very first year of his rule he reopened the doors of the temple in Jerusalem which his father had desecrated and neglected he summoned the priests and Le Levites urging them to purify themselves and the sanctuary the temple was cleansed and once more sacrifices and worship were offered to the Lord seconds Chronicles 29: 3:5 hezekiah's reforms extended beyond the temple he
tore down the high places shattered The Sacred Stones and cut down the Ashera poles he even destroyed the bronze serpent Moses had made which God used to save the Israelites from snake bites in the wilderness for the people had begun to worship it as an idol 2 Kings 18:4 his Zeal for the Lord knew no bounds and he sought to reunify the people of Israel and Judah in the true worship of God his Reign was marked by faithfulness to God and in return the Lord blessed him with prosperity and success Hezekiah fortified Jerusalem improving its
defenses and ensuring a reliable water supply by constructing the famous saloam tunnel this engineering Marvel brought water from the guihan spring into the city securing a crucial resource in times of Siege 2 Chronicles 32: 2-4 and 30 Hezekiah was a king who led his people with faith and fortitude he was said to walk perfectly before the Lord just like King David the Bible records that he trusted God and that there had not been a king like him before and after he reigned over Judah but he had a time when his faith and the fate of
his kingdom faced a dire test and his trust in God was put to the test Hezekiah conquered the Philistines up to Gaza and its territory and he also rebelled against the king of Assyria which is why the king of Assyria marched up against him in the 14th year of hezekiah's Reign Over Judah sarib the king of Assyria attacked and captured all the Fortified cities of Judah and only Jerusalem was standing only the city's walls stood as a final Bull workk against the overwhelming force and the sheer number of enemy soldiers was enough to strike fear
into the hearts of even the Bravest Warriors note that the king of Assyria had captured Israel and carried the people away settling them in Hala in gozan on the Habor River and the towns of the mes this could have only happened because they had violated the Covenant of God they stopped carrying out the instructions God gave them and because he did that to Israel the kingdom of Judah became his next Target at this time Hezekiah sent a message to the king of Assyria at Lish and pleaded with him that he had done wrong and that
anything the king asked of him he would provide so that he would turn away and leave his kingdom Sena cherb king of Assyria demanded 300 talents of silver and 30 talents of gold Hezekiah had to ransack the treasure of the King's house and the house of God to gather the tributes he even stripped the temple doors and the pillars of the temple which he had overlaid with gold in the days following hezekia payment of silver and gold to the king of Assyria a tense and uneasy calm settled over Jerusalem the tribute stripped from the temple
and the Royal treasury was a desperate attempt to buy peace and stave on off the impending threat King Hezekiah watched as his precious Kingdom's wealth was carted away hoping it would be enough to satisfy the Assyrian appetite for Conquest yet despite hezekia sacrifice the Assyrian forces did not relent the tribute was received but sarb the king of Assyria was not a man easily appeased he saw the riches of Judah as a mere Prelude to the greater prize the total subjugation of Jerusalem with his eyes set on the Fortified City he ordered his generals to proceed
with the siege it was at this point that hezekiel realized that he was dealing with a man who lacked Integrity the Assyrian army Advanced their numbers swelling The Horizon like a dark rolling storm they encamped around Jerusalem cutting off supplies and instilling fear among its inhabitants rabshakeh the Assyrian Commander stood outside the city walls and called for the king eliakim son of hilaya the palace administrator shebna the secretary and joah Son of Assaf the recorder went out to meet him the Supreme Commander then passed this message as recorded in 2 Kings 18: 19-2 this is
what what the great king the king of Assyria says on what are you basing this confidence of yours you say you have the counil and the might for war but you speak only empty words on whom are you depending that you rebel against me look I know you are depending on Egypt that splintered Reed of a staff which pierces the hand of anyone who leans on it such as Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who depend on him but if you say to me we are depending on the Lord Our God isn't he the one
whose high places and altars Hezekiah removed saying to Judah in Jerusalem you must worship before this altar in Jerusalem come now make a bargain with my master the king of Assyria I will give you 2,000 horses if you can put Riders on them how can you repulse one officer of the least of my master 's officials even though you are depending on Egypt for chariots and Horsemen furthermore have I come to attack and destroy this place without word from the Lord the Lord himself told me to March against this country and destroy it note that
this was all a lie although God uses different nations to punish and bring back his people when they Heir God was not angry with hezekiel and the kingdom of Judah unlike Israel who were not obedient to God and were full of Errors now eliakim shebna and joah who represented Hezekiah said to the commander please speak to your servants in Aramaic since we understand it don't speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall but the Assyrian Commander Rob Shake stood before the wall WS of Jerusalem and taunted its inhabitants shouting
in their language so that all could understand he replied was it only to your master and you that my master sent me to say these things and not to the people sitting on the wall who like you will have to eat their own excrement and drink their own urin do not listen to Hezekiah for he is misleading you when he said the Lord will Deliver Us has the god of Any Nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria where are the gods of hamath and arpad where are the gods of
sefarim Hannah and IA have they rescued Samaria from my hand who of all the gods of these countries has been able to save his land from me how then can the Lord deliver Jerusalem from my hand the representatives of ezekia tore their clothes and returned to him with the message inside the city Ezekiel was deeply troubled he tore his clothes put on sackcloth and went into the Temple of the Lord he had hoped the tribute would bring peace but now it seemed only to have emboldened the enemy the people were growing restless and doubt began
to creep into their hearts as aiah turned once more to the prophet Isaiah seeking Divine counsel Isaiah's message was unwavering do not be afraid of what you have heard those words with which the underlings of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me listen when he hears a certain report I will make him want to return to his own country and there I will have him cut down with the sword 2 Kings 19 veres 6 to 7 as if immediately trouble brewed in the heart of the Assyrian Empire it was one such report that arrived with
urgency an uprising in libna sakib's attention was pulled away from Jerusalem reluctantly Rob shakah the commander had to withdraw from The Siege and Aid the king because tiaka the king of kush was also marching out to fight against him the king of Assyria however did not leave without a final attempt to intimidate Hezekiah he sent Messengers with a letter to the king of Judah repeating his threats and mocking the god of Israel do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says Jerusalem will not be given into the hands of the king
of Assyria surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries destroying them completely and will you be delivered 2 Kings 19:10 to11 in a humble Act of Faith Hezekiah went to the temple and spread out the threatening letter from sakab before the Lord he prayed fervently acknowledging God's sovereignty and pleading for deliverance Lord the god of Israel enthroned between the cherubim you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth you have made Heaven and Earth give ear Lord and hear Open Your Eyes Lord and see listen to
the words senab has sent to ridicule the Living God 2 Kings 19: 15-16 Hezekiah realized that only God could save him and the kingdom this is what Hezekiah should have done from the onset but it's just a clear example of how we run to God last instead of seeking him first after Hezekiah had trusted in wealth and failed he ran to God in humility and reminded God of his rulership over all the world he did one important thing that stands as a lesson he told God how sakb was ridiculing him to stir up God's anger
we can use this principle in our personal lives when we are troubled with illness and struggling with debt take the matter to God and remind him how that issue is ridiculing God and his promises and Redemption after hezekiah's heartfelt prayer God could no longer watch as his people were paralyzed with fear God spoke to Isaiah and Isaiah once again brought a message from the Lord to Hezekiah a message of assurance and judgment then Isaiah son of sent a message to Hezekiah this is what the Lord the god of Israel says I have heard your prayer
concerning senak carb king of Assyria this is the word that the Lord has spoken against him the Virgin Daughter of Zion despises you and mocks you the daughter of Jerusalem tosses her head as you flee who is it you have insulted and blasphemed against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes and and pride against the Holy One of Israel by your Messengers you have heaped insults on the Lord and you have said with my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains the utmost Heights of Lebanon I have cut down
its tallest Cedars the choicest of its Pines I have reached its remotest parts the finest of its forests I have dug wells in foreign lands and drunk the water there with the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt have you not heard long ago I ordained it in days of old I planned it now I have brought it to pass that you have turned fortified cities into piles of stone their people drained of Power are dismayed and put to shame they are like plants in the field like tender green
chuts like grass sprouting on the roof scorched before grows up but I know where you stay and when you come and go and how you rage against me the Lord declared that sarib would not enter Jerusalem or shoot an arrow there he will not come before it with a shield or build a Siege ramp against it instead he would return by the way he came and the Lord would defend the city to save it for his own sake and for the sake of David his servant 2 Kings 19: 20-34 that night as the Assyrian army
slept an angel of the Lord descended upon their Camp silent and unseen the angel moved through the ranks bringing death to 185,000 soldiers this is the highlight of the video when morning broke the remaining Assyrians awoke to a scene of unimaginable horror the once Invincible Army lay decimated and the survivors fled in Terror abandoning their Siege and returning to Assyria 2 Kings 19:35 sakb humiliated and broken returned to Nineveh where he met his end at the hands of his own Sons just as Isaiah had foretold 2 Kings 19:37 sarb's downfall was a powerful demonstration of
God's sovereignty the Assyrian King had been a mere Pawn used by God to execute judgment but ultimately held accountable for his own pride and wickedness his victories which he believed were due to his own might were orchestrated by the Lord to fulfill Divine purposes in the end it was clear that the true power belonged to God who lifts and brings down rulers according to his will sarb's story stands as a testament to the ultimate authority of God over all the Affairs of men and Nations the Lord had delivered Jerusalem and the people rejoiced their faith
in God renewed and strengthened King hezekiah's Reign continued marked by gratitude and worship for the miraculous Deliverance the story of the Angel who defeated an army of 185,000 became a testament to the power of faith and the unwavering protection of the Lord over his people through trials and threats Hezekiah had shown that with trust in God even the mightiest enemies could be overcome thank you for watching this video please make sure to subscribe and share the video God bless you
