Video Transcript:
There was a time when the world was ruled by giant creatures, like the titanoboa, the largest snake to ever roam the Earth. But even today nature is capable of surprising us with its enormous creations. Humanity has always been impressed by these really big natural wonders, like the giant sequoias, but it has also ended up creating some things for itself, whether out of necessity or ego, like the Burj Khalifa or the icon of the Seas.
I'm Donato de Paula, narrator of Mistérios do Mundo, and here are 11 biggest things of their kind that will make you feel very small. If you like the video, don't forget to like, subscribe to the Mistérios do Mundo channel and turn on notifications. Largest Pool Most hotel pools are nothing special.
They are known for being small, crowded and shallow. In an attempt to move away from this negative reputation, the designers of the outdoor pool at the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Chile appear to have gone a little overboard, building the largest pool in the world. Covering more than 1,000 meters in length, equivalent in size to eight football fields, 250 million liters of water and reaches 35 meters deep at a certain point.
The water in the pool comes from the sea and goes through a filtering process. Tallest Tree Giant Sequoias are known to be the tallest trees in the world and grow on average between 85 and 115 meters tall. Considered a living fossil, the oldest giant sequoia in the world is 4,650 years old and is located in Sequoia National Park, in California, in the United States, which receives more than 1 million tourists a year and uses the income to preserve each of the giant trees.
Tallest building Dubai is a city full of extravagance. A cosmopolitan oasis and futuristic cityscape rise above the hot, dry Arabian desert. In this city of superlatives, we can find the largest dancing fountain in the world, the only seven-star hotel, the largest artificial islands and, of course, the tallest skyscraper on the planet.
Opened in 2010, the Burj Khalifa is an astonishing 828 meters high, has 160 floors and had an estimated construction cost of 1 billion and 500 million dollars, the equivalent of more than 6 billion reais. Construction of the skyscraper used 330,000 cubic meters of concrete and 55,000 tons of steel rebar. Biggest hole The Mir mine was an open-pit diamond mine located in Siberia and was for some time the biggest hole on the planet, being surpassed by Bingham Canyon, in the United States.
This mine is about 4 km wide and more than 1 km deep. In addition to the large production of copper, gold, silver and molybdenum are also extracted. Largest machine The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), located at CERN near Geneva, Switzerland, is the largest and most powerful machine ever built by humanity.
This particle accelerator has an underground ring measuring 27 kilometers in circumference, installed at a depth ranging from 50 to 175 meters. Completed in 2008, the LHC was designed to collide beams of protons and heavy ions at extremely high energies in order to investigate the fundamental laws of physics. He is known for identifying the Higgs boson in 2012, a discovery that filled a crucial gap in the Standard Model of particle physics.
The LHC works through a complex series of systems that accelerate particles to speeds close to that of light. Magnetic superconductors cooled to temperatures close to absolute zero are used to direct the particle beams along the tunnel. These beams are then made to collide at specific points, where gigantic detectors record the results of the collisions.
These experiments help scientists better understand fundamental questions about the origin of the universe and the nature of matter. The LHC not only pushes the limits of human technology, it also expands the frontiers of human knowledge. Largest flower Quite peculiar and found in environments such as the jungles of Sumatra, Borneo and other regions of Indonesia, Rafflesia is the largest flower in the world.
These flowers live attached to the stem or roots of trees and like to parasitize vitaceae. Rafflesia has no leaves and, when adult, can measure between 60 cm and 1 meter in diameter, weighing between 7 and 10 kg. Another notable characteristic of this flower is its strong smell of rotting meat, which attracts insects responsible for pollination.
Largest cruise ship With around 250,000 tons and 365 meters long, the Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world. The colossal vessel has 2,805 cabins, which have the capacity to accommodate more than 7,600 passengers. It cost around 2 billion dollars and is almost the size of the famous Empire State Building in New York.
In addition, the ocean liner boasts the largest water park at sea, the largest casino at sea and the fastest internet in the cruise industry. Next to it, the Titanic, at 269 meters, looks like just a small boat. Largest salt desert Salar de Uyuni sits atop an extremely high plateau in southwestern Bolivia, at almost 3,600 meters above sea level.
The salt is as thick as the thin air and the surface of the salt plain is astonishing: more than 10,000 km2. The area, of course, produces a lot of salt. Also, lots of lithium.
Huge untapped reserves lie beneath the surface, comprising between half and two-thirds of the world's reserves. The Salar has another incredible feature: during part of the year, a thin layer of water covers the surface. This produces the reflective effect seen here, and when this happens, the Salar also transforms into the largest mirror in the world.
Largest animal The blue whale is not only the largest animal in the ocean but also the largest animal inhabiting planet Earth today . This marine mammal can measure up to 30 meters in length and weigh up to 150 tons. With such a large size, it is surprising to know that these whales feed mainly on krill, a group of invertebrate animal species similar to shrimp.
Largest factory Airplanes take up space, and the 13 million cubic meters of area or 415 hectares provide plenty of space. Boeing's main factory, in Everett, in the United States, is so immense that it is even bigger than Disneyland. It is there that the company's large aircraft are built: the 747, 767, 777 and the most recent 787 Dramliners.
The factory has its own highway, train station, fire department, security forces , water treatment plant, bank, medical center, 19 cafeterias and restaurants serving around 17,000 meals a day. Largest airport Located in Beijing, China, is a brand new airport opened in 2019, which is the largest in the world. There are 700 thousand square meters of terminal.
The areas dedicated to arrivals and departures are spread over two floors each, depending on whether the flights are domestic or international. To facilitate connection to the center of Beijing, a station and an entire high-speed underground railway connection were built. The budget for the work, which took around 5 years, is also made up of astronomical numbers.
The airport exceeded 15 billion euros, equivalent to 68 billion reais. Which of these items caught your attention the most? Tell us in the comments.
