once upon a time there was a girl named Adana she was 15 years old blind and very beautiful her skin was smooth and her eyes though they could not see had a calm look that made people stare she hardly spoke and many in the village thought she couldn't talk at all ad only noded when her mother maachi spoke to her inside her heart she kept everything l walked away maachi had been through a lot adana's father had died not long after she was born maach tried to keep a job in the city while raising her
baby but it was too hard caring for a danana needed full attention and the work hours didn't allow her to munachi had to quit her job to look after her child at first life in the city was manageable but as a dner grew the expenses became too much maach tried schooling her daughter but teaching a blind child needed special skills and she couldn't afford to hire a teacher she managed to teach Adana how to dress herself bath and clean up but school was something she couldn't handle as the years passed munachi realized they couldn't survive
in the city any longer with no job and no support she decided to move back back to her parents old home in the village it wasn't what she wanted but she had no choice the day they arrived in the village the air felt different the houses were small and made of mud bricks with tein roofs that made noise whenever the wind blew children ran bare feet on Dusty paths shouting and laughing munachi side as she looked around some villagers stood in small groups whispering and pointing as maachi and andana pass by E isn't that maachi
one woman said yes so H the one who went to the city years ago hey what happened to her she left looking like a queen and now she's back with nothing H Wonder shall never end wait is that a daughter hey and the girl is blind well this must be punishment for something she did who knows H my sister that is true how can someone leave this Village and at the end of day come back with a blind daughter Ma at them but she kept walking she held ad's hand tightly baby don't listen to them
okay let's go Adana didn't say anything she only nodded and gried and mother's hand harder the house they move into was old and Dusty cobwebs H from the corners and the air smelled damp munachi looked around and felt tears sting her eyes this wasn't the life she imagined for her daughter you know what well we'll clean this place up she said forcing a smile it will feel like home soon don't worry Adana okay just let's just set our bags somewhere Adana nodded her face blank the next few weeks were tough munachi started a small business
selling veget at the market she had to wake up early every day to pick fresh produce from nearby farms and carry to the market on her head in the Village People whispered even more they said munachi had been cured how else could a woman who once lived in the city return with nothing and with a blind daughter too they said it with a sign that she was paying for her past mistakes munachi ignored The Whispers but every night after went to bed she cried quietly she wanted a better life for her daughter she wanted her
to go to school but she didn't know where to start most of the schools in the village didn't have teachers who could handle a blind child one day as they sat on the porch of their small house maachi said Adana you are 15 now you need to go to school um Miss tomb you will laugh at me mama maa's had broke but she spoke firmly my dear let them laugh it is their mouth you are my child and you deserve to learn and I have to find a way Adana didn't H you she only nodded
as always maachi looked at her daughter a mix of love and determination in her eyes no matter how hard it was she would fight for ad Dana on a bright Wednesday morning munachi stood nervously outside the office of the principal of the village grammar school Adan held her mother's hand tightly her other hand gripping her white skin Oh welcome please sit down the principal said motioning to two wooden chairs in front of our decks munachi helped Adana seat then sat beside her Mrs munachi the principal began you want to enroll your daughter here tell me
has she gone to school before Oh yes sir she finished Primary School in the city I wanted to take her to a special school for blind children but I couldn't afford it so I Tau her at home as best as I could the principal nodded and turned to Adana what's your name my dear um Adan sir good can I ask you a few questions Adan noed The principal asked her some simple math and spelling questions and AD answered them all correctly well I must say your daughter is really smart you know what she can start
on Monday we'll do our best to support her oh thank you sir thank you so much maachi said her eyes glistening with gratitude on Monday morning and Dana started her first day at school she was placed in a class with other students her age the classroom was noisy filled with chatter and laughter Adana sat quietly at her Des a leaning against her chair most of the student didn't pay her much attention except for a boy named a maker from the moment he saw her his face Twisted in dislike during break time a maker walked up

her mother she didn't want to go back to school mama I told you but you will not listen to me I told you they were going to make fun of me look at what they maker did to me I don't belong in his school please let me stay at home maach KN beside her daughter and held her Shoulders ad ad you are stronger than you think if someone is troubling you report them to your teacher don't let anyone make you feel small Adana nodded though her heart was Heavy the next day a maker tried another
prank he waited until the teacher stepped out and then tied a string across the walkway hoping Adana would trip on it but as Adana walked with her K she sensed something was off what are you doing a maker you have started eh nothing he said smirking Adana swung a cane in front of her and it eat a maker on the head with a loud TW ah my head a maker cried the class fell silent then erupted into laughter Adana smile for the first time in a long while that evening munachi heard a loud knock at

principal Mr Paul a serious man with a St face looked at Adana and frowned slightly Kate are you sure this is the right place for her cuz I don't think so I know that some people still think locally I'm sorry but sir that's the truth Kate replied trying to keep atone respect respectful but I believe this school can be better if we decide to be forward thinkers Miss K orasi what do you mean by better I mean sir this is the chance for our school to stand out if we can make it inclusive for children
like Adana we can send a proposal to the local government for support H and what makes you think they will listen get smile confidently because it is a good idea sir do you know how many children with disabilities are out there unable to go to school if we start now we could change their lives Adana could be the beginning of something great Mr Paul thought for a moment and Ned slowly all right Miss Kate but the proposal is your responsibility ah no problem thank you sir Kate said relieved Kate became a danas teacher she spent
extra time with her teaching her step by step Kate had learned how to communicate with her blind parents before they passed away so she understood how to guide Adana whenever kid felt unsure she reached out to our teacher friends from the city they gave her tips and videos and shared new methods for teaching blind students Adana who could speak clearly and write with some help was eager to learn one afternoon Adana was searching for her notebooks in her bag when a few pieces of paper fell out Kate picked P them up and stared at them
Adana you drew this she asked amazed oh yes I did how did you draw them Adana smil shilly I see them in my mind and I hear the sound of a sewing machine it helps me imagine the designs Kate was speechless she had never seen anything like Kate that weekend Kate decided to take Adana to the cloth Market they walked through the colorful stores with Fabrics of all textures and patterns hanging in every corner this one feels soft Adana said touching a piece of material with her hands the stall owner a cheerful woman explained oh
that's chiffon is used for making dresses ad I ran her fingers over a flowery Fabric and smiled H I like this one I want to design something with it Kate asked the stall owner for a pen and paper Adana sitting on a stool began to draw within minute she has created a perfect design that match the fabric the store owner sted in disbelief did she just draw that Kate nodded smiling proudly yes she did the next day Kate went to see Mr Paul she stood in his office clutching the sketch adna had drawn H what

can teach the students after school hairdressing baking sewing things like that it will help the student discover what they are good at H how do you plan to fund this Mr Paul asked parents can pay a small token the money will go to the teachers as a thank you for their time Mr Paul thought about it and then nodded fine but only if the other teachers agree the teachers love loved Kate's idea they seted clubs for sewing baking hairdressing and other skills student were excited to join and their parents were happy to support them even
students who never love to go to school decided to join because of the extracurricular activities Adana joined the sewing Club she loved it and quickly became one of the best in the class she learned how to stitch Fabrics tread needles and create simple patterns the teacher in charge was was blown away Kate watched her from afar smiling Adana was finally finding her place but one girl sopia had refused to join ma what's a blind girl doing here ah she's just going to slow us down I know you said she's intelligent but that doesn't matter by
the time you need to attend to one student she'll delay and they have to wait for her all day our words H her D now but she didn't say anything Mrs ctia the teacher in charge of the sewing Club had the complain and frown before she could reply kids who happened to be nearby Ste in Sophia sister Sophia of God if you think this class isn't for you you can leave nobody is forcing you to stay but you don't dare look down on anyone especially someone like Adana if you try it I will throw you
out and you will never join any club in this school what do you think you are for you to tell us who should be in the class or not Sophia pouted and looked away she stayed in the club but kept her distance from Adana Adana didn't let Sophia's attitude bother her she threw herself into her work eager to learn everything her mother got her all the necessary equipment she needed at home she often stayed up late sketching new designs and studying her notes Mama ad I said one evening please can you buy me some cheap
materials I want to practice more MAA smiled impressed by A daughter's determination of course my dear you're doing so well and I'm proud of you MAA had also heard from Kate and Mrs Cynthia how much ad had improved it warmed her heart to see how her daughter was speaking up especially with a braille a daughter was so full of life and ambition this gave munachi the ability to want to push forward 6 months later our school announced an exhibition day for all the clubs parents were invited to come and see what their children had learned

things you have done here in this school you never allow your disability to stop you please keep up the good work Adana beamed thank you Ma it was a regular school day and the students were in the classroom when the sounds of cars entering the compound Drew everyone's attention the shiny black cars stopped in front of the principal's office and several people stepped out including police officers the students began Whispering picking out of their Windows hey what's happening what's happening again have they come to arrest our principal a God help us today I don't know
another said maybe something bad has really really happened inside the principal's office Mr Paul stood up as a tall neatly dressed young man entered he introduced himself as Daniel the prince of a nearby Kingdom my sister sent me pictures of some designs from your recent exhibition she told me they were created by a blind student is that true the principal nodded yes your highness her name is Adana she's truly gifted Daniel was surprised I would like to meet her he said Adana was in a sewing class when Kate came to get her Adana there's someone
