In 1955, when Pandit Nehru went on a Soviet Union tour and addressed Moscow University's students. One of the students was Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Later he went on to say that when he was a student, he was too far away to understand the principles of democracy.

The communist Soviet propaganda of that time presented a very black-and-white picture of the world to the students. But the students had their doubts. In this regard, Jawaharlal Nehru's Moscow tour proved to be an unexpected inspiration for him.

He says that such a great man left a deep impression on him. Do you understand what this means, friends? When our country used to be very poor, even then, the whole world paid attention to India.

And the world listened to India because Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru used to speak. Pandit Nehru repeated Gandhi's principles. Gandhi ji used to repeat that spirit of India which was mentioned by Swami Vivekananda in his speech in Chicago.

In December 1958, Nehru said something like this in the Indian Parliament. He claimed that he had not made a new policy but that his policies are inherent in India's past thinking. This policy sums up India's mental outlook.

The policy of peace and non-alignment. The first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in Belgrade in September 1961. The capital of the country Yugoslavia at that time.

But its groundwork had begun much before that. Like the Bandung Conference in Indonesia in 1955. It was attended by delegations of 29 governments, which mostly consisted of Asian and African countries.

Pandit Nehru's speech in this conference was published by The Print as a part of the Great Speeches. Do you know what he said? "Do the Asian and African nations have no other position than being pro-communist or anti-communist?

We are the leaders of ideologies, we have given many religions and ideologies to the world. so why do we want to join one group or the other? Why do we want to be their hangers?

Non-aligned movement is still relevant today. Because of this non-aligned movement, India became a leader for the world. We showed a new way to the world.

In an interview with Pandit Nehru the interviewer mentioned that DrVerwoerd, the Prime Minister of South Africa, called apartheid the policy of being a good neighbour, Nehru was asked whether he accepted this description. In 1999, he became the democratically elected president. Another student, Bingu wa Mutharika, joined the Ministry of Finance of Malawi and became the President of Malawi in 2004. The level of influence!
