sometimes we find ourselves in situations where fear or anxiety holds us back from speaking out loud especially when we're speaking in our non-native language maybe your mind goes blank during a presentation or you can't find the right words during an interview these moments can be frustrating and even defeating but the truth is it doesn't have to stay this way with the right mindset and effective methods no life hacks or cheat codes you can definitely step towards of becoming a confident English speaker as well so today I'm going to share with you guys how exactly to
improve your English speaking skills and how I carry myself with confidence when speaking English I want to start by saying that fear often stems from unfamiliarity which is why it's always a great idea to immerse yourself in an English-speaking environment when you're looking to improve your English speaking skills by constantly exposing yourself to English you can become more comfortable with the language which will help you build up your confidence so start small by maybe changing your phone settings to English and maybe your app settings to English as well and afterwards you can take it one
step further depending on your interests so if you love watching TV shows watch some TV shows in English if you're a gamer play video games in English and if you love reading novels read your favorite novels again in English one of my best friends now speaks Immaculate English not because she was a model student in her English class but because she grew up on watching American YouTubers so English surrounded her day-to-day life so never underestimate the power of immersion the next tip I want to share with you guys is to Shadow an English-speaking role model
having a role model can help you visualize what kind of a speaker you want to become and it can spark inspiration and motivation so ask yourself who do you look up to who in your eyes is an amazing speaker this could be a motivational speaker for instance I really look up to bernee Brown or to keep it more interesting maybe you could even choose a celebrity Emma Watson and Denzel Washington are both great speakers as well so look for someone with the confidence and the energy you want to have when you're speaking English next time
you're watching a video of them or listening to their podcast make sure to pause the clip after every sentence and repeat it to yourself mimicking their tone their style and their diction do this exercise for maybe just 20 minutes a day make their words your practice lines and over time you'll start absorbing elements of their speaking style into your own now before I move on any further I want to encourage you to have a mindset shift which is that confidence comes from from embracing imperfections no one can speak English perfectly not native speakers and not
me so set a goal to speak out loud every day even if it's just one sentence and even if you make a ton of mistakes at first it might sound a little strange hearing yourself speaking in English but over time it will become more natural so I want to share with you guys a little secret of mine so in middle school I loved reading novels and I would always read them out loud to myself in my room as if I was an actress reading a script and I specifically remember doing this with The Hunger Games
so I'd give the story a very dramatic narration and I would roleplay each character with a unique voice now this sounds a little ridiculous when I say it out loud but in reality it helped improve my English so so much in the most enjoyable way what I'm trying to get at is that sometimes it just takes a bit of creativity to turn a tedious task and make it interesting maybe you could even do your own video diaries just sit down with your phone for 5 minutes every day and talk about what happened throughout your day
you could review the videos and identify the things you liked about your speech and disliked about your speech to track your progress by hearing your own voice more and noticing your growth over over time can really help you build up your English speaking confidence but if you find it difficult to stay consistent with your speaking practice or you just don't know where to start apps like Elsa speak can help you out so Elsa speak is an AI powered English speech Improvement app it provides a great variety of practice opportunities and when you're done it scores

freeze up because I definitely have and I know you have as well the truth is no matter how much time we spend studying or practicing on our own when we're speaking English in a social situation it can easily feel overwhelming social anxiety fear insecurity all kick in when we're put on the spot which is why it's so important to have a speaking buddy or just to have someone to practice with regularly speaking buddies help you get used to communicating with real people and push you to think on your feet so that you're better prepared and
have more flexibility when you're engaging in real world conversations I think that having a speaking buddy is like having a gym buddy they keep you accountable for practicing your English but at the same time they make make the experience more fun at the end of the day learning a new language is about connection we're all learning English to open new doors to meet new people to understand different cultures and to maybe travel the world however the learning process can sometimes seem so challenging which is why having a speaking buddy is a GameChanger they're not only
someone you can practice with but they remind you about why you're learning the language in the first place to connect to chat to share stories and Bridge gaps now you might be thinking syil how do I find a speaking buddy your speaking buddy could be your friend your classmate or your colleague or even someone you connect with through a language Facebook group and if you're happy to share your own native language you could even find a language exchange partner because that would be a great idea as well sometimes as a non-native speaker you might feel
feel like the English you're learning in your classroom is too formal or too stiff compared to the way native speakers actually talk and this can build up a sense of insecurity which I completely understand a great way to address this is to keep a native English diary this could be as simple as just a page in your notes app where you jot down the differences in speech between native English speakers and yourself maybe you notice that native speakers tend to use contractions they like to say should of instead of should have while they're speaking or
maybe you picked up some new expressions from your American friend who might say hit me up instead of contact me so write down these differences and incorporate them into the way you speak to sound more natural and build up your confidence in your English so before I close off this video I want to remind you guys that confidence is not just about the amount of vocabulary you know or how amazing your pronunciation is a lot of the times it's also about how you're presenting yourself when you're speaking how is your posture when you're speaking English
are your shoulders slouched is your head hanging low because you want to notice these details and challenge yourself to change them also think about the clarity of your speech so this includes your diction the pace you're speaking at or the volume you're talking at if you guys want me to dive deeper into how to master your English delivery make sure to comment down below and I will make a part two of this video so those are all of the tips I'll be sharing with you guys today and I hope that they help you out on
your language learning journey and I will catch you guys in my next video [Music]
