Students often struggle to fine a good example of an academic essay they can use to write their own...
Video Transcript:
hi hope you're doing well one of the problem that both students face or encounter is finding a very good essay kind of a prototype answer uh let's say for example an example by itself they can use for the future essays this is a problem that most students find like either for example when they study at University one of the problem like most of the time uh the Prototype answer is given in points not like the whole essay the same thing for example when they want to prepare for the PHD entrance exams they can't find like
a how they can write a very good essay and this is also a question that I find often I'm trying to answer how can I write a good academic essay and so most of the time uh we find like for example just kind of small paragraphs but not like the full essay so in this video what I'm going to do I'm going to try to answer one of the question that I have uh given to my students in my ma in my research methodology class the question that I have already shared once in my YouTube
channel but I have only provided the introduction and then so many followers on Facebook or subscribers in my YouTube channel that told me hey you need to complete pleaser the answer because we want to understand how all the elements are written and how do they fit all together especially when it comes to the development and also when it comes to the conclude conclusion so let's start first so this is the question in front of us as you can see the choice of each research data collection tool entails a unique set of considerations strategically navigating through
potential advantages disadvantages as well as ethical concerns discuss reflecting on your own research so let's start first because last time I have explained this very and I said students have to be very careful when it comes to reflecting on your own research means that there is it's not just you are going to provide everything but it's kind of link to the choices you have made in your research now how can I answer this for example I sit in an exam or I have an PhD entrance exam how can I answer the first thing we know
that you need we need to highlight the keyword so you have the choice of each research so we have first this the the choice of each research uh data collection tool of course now tail and ta unique set of considerations that related to the choice strategically navigating through potential advantages okay this is maybe another keyword disadvantages and ethical concerns okay and of course you have reflecting on Research means that also is going to be a vital part in the whole process now and this is the issue here most students do they start they think that
when they start the introduction they have to kind of reformulate the question again and only at the development and here I would not agree with them look the way I use it or the way I think about it and the way I have been thought the introduction is everything it's kind of the answer by itself it's the summary of the answer so that's why we call the introduction and there is the development so you provide the answer and only at the level of development you kind of develop it further so I always say to my
students when I read your introduction I have to find the answer of course the answer is going to be provided in terms of points0 one point 2 3 and point 4 but remember that the answer is at the level of the introduction itself because if I find like many times when I'm correcting my exam that's the introduction is I'm sorry for it it's like BL blah blah blah blah blah and they kind of Advance the question again to me and I say okay this is what this was my question so what did you say in
the introduction you literally said nothing and this is going of course to negate the idea that we want something precise and concise so I would say the introduction should always be kind of a summary to the whole to the whole thing so you find everything in the introduction means what that's for example some potential advantages I need to see the Mother Love introduction disadvantages and some ethical concerns let's see and how how it how it did this so I'm going to expand this and I'm going okay now let's see this so I started my introduction
saying what systematic and structured research is built on multiple decisions that are made all along the process one of which is the right data collection tool now so this is just to reflect the idea of the choice I set it here now as a requirement to fulfill the Master's Degree now because now as you said reflect on your own research my research is set to investigate the effect of using okay and let's say not effect of using AI let's say for example investigate uh okay the use of AI to improve writing style in the letter
an experiment was opted as a suitable data Gathering tool okay so that was my choice since it offers what so this is these are the advantages controlled environment to test all variables one quantitative data two high degree of precision and accuracy that's three hence more objective okay now however now that's is going to the disadvantage an experiment can be resource intensive susceptible to sampling bias and even has limited applicability that's so all of which constitute negative aspect so now I'm telling that this these are the negative aspects from an ethical standing Point manipulation and experiments
are always source of concern this is what this is simply ethical concern as you can see my introduction contains everything literally contains the answer so you don't need even maybe you need don't need even to read the conclusion because now you know the answer but of course as an academic essay you need to develop it further but as far as the answer I have provided the answer and this is why sometimes I tell my students like an introduction is like that first impression you have on a person if you provide a very good a solid
introduction Trust Me Your Mark is there like you will sure that you are going to take a good Mark so that's concerning the introduction now concerning the development and here and I need my students I need my students to be very careful concerning the development now look there is something that is so important when it comes to the development as I said the introduction reflects the answer plus the introduction of course is kind of itself is a kind of uh how can I say an outline to what you are going to write as I said
so look for example this is so this is systematic struct decision so I have talked about the choice why I made that choice now if I have to say I need you to think about all this in paragraph one because that is going to be the choice so I'm going to develop this in paragraph one now of course as a letter requirement Gathering tool to test all the variable quantitative data High degree Precision so all these are the positive aspect the positive aspects I mentioned them here control environment to test all the variables etc etc
so these are going to be let's say are going to be in the advantages and let me choose another color if I'm going to chose an experiment is susceptibility etc etc all the negative the negative are going to be over here in the disadvantages okay let me choose okay another color so if I say here so these are disadvantages so we need them here so the second are going to be in the second paragraph now of course paragraph four because we need ethical concerns so let's say the blue these are the ethical concerns I need
them here as you can see so we have all the paragraphs are clearly indicated from the introduction that's why I said a very good a very good introduction is itself kind of an outline of what you are going to write uh I remember once my teacher told me that if I read your introduction I have to I need to have like a very it's not I need to have you should provide like a clear path of what you are going to develop if you deviate from the what you said into introduction you will have a
problem and this is why so important that you think of the introduction as an outline and even you you follow the same path so I started with the choice the advantages disadvantages and of course I would end with ethical consideration and of course the conclusion is going to be a sum up of everything so now let's uh sorry now so let's try to um hold on a minute let's let's fix that okay sorry sorry for this now let's try to go uh let me try to go here okay move all these lines so I can
explain things down what I want you to do now okay I need okay sorry now now let's try to remove this introduction ction and look at the question again now if we look at the question here you find that the same thing for example if I'm going to bring an highlighter here and I'm going to put okay red so you see the choice is paragraph one potential advantages paragraph 2 disadvantages in paragraph three ethical concerns is in paragraph 4 and this is what I mean by a very clear outline of what you are going to
write now let's talk about another uh question that most students they ask me that I want to write five paragraph style and I would because I I find it really weird when they tell me that I want to write a five paragraph style and I say literally there is nothing called five paragraph style yes sometimes you find it in book but look the number of paragraphs correspond correspond responds directly with the number of IDs you have in your introduction or in the question let's say for example there was another Point added for potential advantages disadvantages
and ethical concerns maybe you find another thing for example the relation to the the questions or the approach if there was another idea it means that I need also another paragraph so literally there is no fixed number of paragraphs it depends on the number and it depends also on your and it depends also on your writing style of course let's say for example I want to write the same paragraph or the same essay but let's say for a PhD t for a PhD entrance exam and I am free to write more of course for example
the choice I can expand it into two paragraphs advantages can be expanded also in the two paragraphs add Maybe for One examples and of course the same thing concerning this Advantage actually even one word I can expand it into another paragraph now so I read the introduction now let's go to the to the choice what did I what did I say in the choice now look here okay let me Zoom that so the choice of a data tool in a research should be based on a solid rationale and align and aligned with the goals of
the study so that's one now in the attempt to explore the use of AI in a classroom and its impact on writing style one will encounter the inavailability of a teaching context what s where such technology is used in class eliminating the choice of a survey now what did I say here you know why we use most of the time use an experiment because sometimes it's simply we we can't find any context where we can just collect the data for our research the same thing for example apply here you want you want to know how
what's the impact of AI on writing style so if there is a teacher let's say there is a teacher or let's say for example schools are using this technology everywhere now you can just use questionaires you can use observation and you get the same data collection tool because someone is using the same tool but here in this case you can't find it because the technology is new so you are faced with a decision so what's the decision here a researcher has to create the setting defines lesson plans and select participant who will be part of
such an experiment so this is the gist this is the this is this is the gist of the experiment you have control over all the elements in research so you can select sample you can create the context you can set it the preest the post test everything you can do that's why they are very good now let's go to uh next thing what do we have all of these can be indeed time consuming and hard to manage but the decision to opt for an experiment has several advantages so I am aware that this decision of
course has some problems I don't want to Del further into the problems but I just want to tell you that there are problem but this is this was my choice so this is paragraph one now I will go to paragraph two paragraph two that I'm going to talk about the the advantages now what you can see a key distinguishing fact of an experiment lies in its capacity to deliberately manipulate control variables a feature. survey inherently lack and this is one of the problem that's what I teach my students when I tell them what's the difference
between a survey and what's the difference between an experiment most students they do problems come to this they say descriptive and experiment no it's a survey and an experiment in a survey you just collect data you don't manipulate anything anything that's usually when you do an observation when you do a questionnaire when you do an interview interview sometimes you manipulate things but most of the time you just collect data so it's not like a survey it's an experiment so we manipulate we control now number two uh this control is what enables the researcher to create
setting where he or she has the freedom to create a teaching environment aligned with the objective of the research as well as setting assessment plans to yield the needed data folder analysis you know that this sentence only if you want to expand it in an essay for example when say assessment plan so this can be extended to the preest the post test the difference between them the data analysis procedure you can talk about all of these now on the L the experimental approach is often associated with quantitative approach and data which is often credited for
its perceived High objectivity in data interpretation ultimately meticulous details offered in an experiment contribute to the Precision and accuracy of the data as you can see I have developed further the answer that I gave in the introduction in par in paragraph 2 now let's move to paragraph three in which why have talked about the disadvantages yet the intricate nature of setting up an experiment represents significant drawback and this is one of the problem novice researchers and students are frequently deterred from employing this data Gathering tool method due to the required resources so because you have
to set everything by yourself means that there is a problem it's going to be really time consuming be it time financial support Logistics or the permission to access Laboratories now moreover the control over over variables can introduce its own set of challenges for example participant participant selection may not be representative of the population or influenced by the researcher leading to sampling bias I talked about it you see that I have talked about it in the introduction but here I have kind of defined it I defined it implicitly by saying by saying may not be a
representative of the population or influenced by the researcher this is the definition of a sampling bias now let's go to applicability because I also mentioned in the introduction applicability is also concern is is also a concern since findings from controlled experiments most cases can can be rendered uh ah sorry cannot be cannot be rendered directly into real word scenarios in my research because we're talking about your research there was a need for a fully equipped classroom with computers and fast Network a condition that diverges significantly from the typical resource available in real world classroom so
in often most of the time and this is one of the significant drawbacks of an experiment so you set an experiment you find results but the context or the environment that you set in an experiment is simply L it cannot be found in real world and that's why most of the time it's like they are really good in finding and manipulating some variables and you see some give us Insight but the problem often when it comes they have it comes to real work they have really limited applicability so these are concerning the disadvantages so let's
move to paragraph four in which I'm going to talk about uh ethical consideration now ethical consideration are important as principles to guide the process of the research as well as Safeguard wellbeing and rights of participants so simply I have developed what do you mean by ethical consideration in an experiment as any other data Gathering tool informed consent is imperative participants must be fully aware of the nature of the research its potential benefits and Associated risk to make voluntary and informed decision about their involvement furthermore in an experiment there is the issue of data Been proposedly
Changed by the researcher and the environment to produce favorable results and this is one of the problem and when it comes to uh to experiment therefore an experiment has to be conducted with strict guideline so the same thing I have developed developed further the answer that I gave in the in the introduction now let's move to the conclusion and what I'm going to see in the conclusion in conclusion the choice of in conclusion the choice of the data collection tool in research is a critical decision that shapes the entire process for systematic research one has
to wait advantages and the ad disadvantages associated with each tool to achieve reliable outcomes furthermore ethical ethical okay ethical principles have to be given importance or importantance consideration throughout the whole inquiry so this is the conclusion conclusion simply is kind of a is a kind of a summary of everything that was said that's it's really simple if you have follow like a very clear way of answering the conclusion is not going to be a problem to you now as I can said I have tried to really simplify the whole process of making an essay or
a very good essay as you can see you start first by a good introduction that's why for example when it comes to an introduction I tell my students you really need to give it time most of the time in your work or in an exam is to think about a very good introduction the rest of the paragraphs that are going to be easy because most of the time you have you have prepared them as you can see this is my answer of course uh I really need you need your feedback and please tell me of
course this is a draft if you have uh another point of view if you have other things to I'm going I should add please tell me in the comments thank you so much and see you another video
