if you're currently feeling lost, confused with no purpose, and you have all these ideas what your passions can be. But when someone asks the question, What are you going to do with your life? You have no clue.
Or maybe dabble in a few things, but never really found success and passion. What you're doing. So you end up not following through and you got demotivated and just gave up.
I've been there and I made this video for you because I remember scrolling through endless career lists, feeling lost and unsure. Throughout school and adulthood, I was bombarded with this message that find your passion. Everything will fall into place.
But what if that's not true? And that's not the reality You see, you know, I've been told all these confusing advice about finding your passion, and that led you nowhere. Probably even more lost and confusing.
You were before. The truth is, the idea of a single perfect passion is a myth. So truth number one is that your passion isn't a specific career or a title.
Well, I finally figured this out for myself. I realize it's nothing like we've been told our whole lives and follow along to the exercises. I'll share in this video.
These exercises can help you figure it out like I did, hopefully sooner for you than it was for me. Or if you multi passionate like I am. I want to show you how to get the clarity you need in order to move forward with your life to start working on things that really matter.
See? I want to tell you that it's possible for you to live the best version of your life, to pursue all the beautiful things that you're interested in and do it every single day. So grab a pen and paper and let's get started.
You know that question that your parents asked you when you were a kid. What do you want to be when you grow up? I never really was the kind of kid that knew what I wanted.
And when you're young and you're a kid, that's fine. But as I grew into adulthood, I remember that question just loomed over me with dread every single morning as I faced another day of classes or going to work on something that I wasn't passionate about. Maybe I had no passion.
I thought to myself at the time I've been going through life so much on autopilot that I forgot what passion felt like. And I think we'll come to this point, our life where we face this moment of truth, this essential crisis, really, of questioning, why am I doing my life? So between the age of 18 and 28, I changed jobs seven times two, which was because I was made redundant.
And during this time of being the limbo of unemployment, it gave me the time I needed to do some self-reflection This is when I realized the biggest thing that I got wrong, like when I was trying to find my passion, is not about the passion, but is about the expectation. And unfortunately, she was number two is that your passion will suck sometimes I think the mass media in the movie makes us feel like when we find this one passion, it's going to be all sunshine and rainbows. We're going to be sleeping and dreaming about it.
We go all in Our brains can be one the most creative ever been the most productive. I'm going to be creating some of the best works of our lives. But in all, honestly, that is simply wrong because real life is hard and having unrealistic expectations like this will only lead you to more disappointment.
I'll never find that passion when I move from career to career, product to project, I realized that every single job is going to have its downside and things that you will hate and everything in life will suck. Sometimes Everything in life is hard. The process of becoming and discovering who you are is hard.
But the best part is that you get to choose your heart. But you really know this because there's a reason why you watching this video is because you want to find out what you love. Are you willing to do anything to find it For me?
I would not do 40 hours in a week in the job that I hate, but I would do 40 hours a week in building a business. I love. all comes on this really great question to ask yourself and feel free to write this one down.
What are you willing to struggle for even on days when this sucks? and the answer to this question might be waiting right there in front of you. even though now I finally reach the place where I can say I'm doing what I love, it doesn't mean that I love what I'm doing 100% of the time.
There's a very fine line difference between that because it was never about find the passion. We missed the point. The point was to fall in love with the process, the process of becoming, you.
And there's this brilliant concept called the rule of hundred. If you spend 100 hours a year in a specific field, that equates to about 18 minutes a day. You'll be better than 95% of people in that field.
So your success and your passion really comes from the consistency of pushing past those days when it's hard and it sucks because you're willing to struggle for and because you love what you do. But like all things in life, your passion isn't going to stay the same because you will change and so will your passion. it is, like how often you don't fall in love at first sight.
Your passion is a journey that you go on with all the surprises and challenges along the way. That Moz and Chiefs into who you are. Just like in the relationship where you get stronger over time.
But when you fall in love with the process, you forget the outcome. Instead of focusing on the journey, you become you who you are. Life has this funny way of making interesting twists and turns, and you never really know where could lead you down into, but you follow your curiosity every step of the way.
That's really where you can becoming the best version of you. And choose number three is that your passion will evolve with you because life is a dynamic process. so doing, the self-reflection, working and showing this video really helped me to go from loss and clueless studying for a degree that I wasn't interested in in university and going to a job that I had absolutely no passion and burning out to eventually creating a successful career in marketing, building a business I love waking up to every single day.
I'm also now watercolor artist, a writer, a YouTuber. And thanks so much for everyone who joined me on this journey so far on my channel and online educator and also an athlete, I'm currently training for Hierarchs. If you know what that is, let me know the comments as well.
I started with this mental model of Ichigo, which is basically in Japanese philosophy, translate into a reason for being if you guys want to just a job is about finding work that matches your passion skills and what the world needs. So typically Ikigai is represented by overlapping of these four circles. the first one is what you love.
So what are you passionate about? What would you do even without a paycheck? Right?
List down of everything. I mean, literally everything you ever enjoy doing. Think back to your childhood.
If you can't remember that, maybe ask your parents or master siblings to remind you what you used to love doing. The next circle is what can you be paid for? Does these skill sets have any market value?
Will people pay you for doing this? So now you can cross out anything that you probably won't get paid for and you can be super creative about it and you can be paid for that. Why not?
Because now the possibilities are endless. again, it's about thinking outside the box and being creative of what you can do with that list. The next circle is What are you good at?
So look at what's left in the list. Are you able to excel in any of these skills or if you're really just studying them, are you willing to put in the work to become the top 1% in that specific industry? Cross out any of the ones that don't fit this criteria?
And the last circle, which is where a lot of us really identify with this part, is what the world needs. Does the work level on this list address the real problem and contribute something a lot larger in this world? so all the ones that you left the circle, that the last step really that is your allowing area in your ikigai now is about thinking how do you focus on the strengthening of this area in your next project, your next career, your next business, whatever you're looking to next to incorporate more of this into what you do.
And what's really interesting to remember is that your ikigai is uniquely yours. What you might find interesting that you love, other people might hate, And that could be your special sauce. Your unfair advantage is people say, right, so this is your job.
To discover more about who you are, I find journaling to be another really powerful way. I'll find out more about myself to raise my self awareness. I do a lot of this during my self-discovery phase.
I put together 20 of the most powerful questions I use for myself on a daily basis in the journal Prompt Guide that you can download for free in the description below. I really hope that these questions can help you feel free to steal them or maybe make your own. Just 5 minutes a day of journaling can make a huge difference in how you know more about yourself to process your own deepest desires for impact and what you can do as part of your passion in this world.
and with a self-awareness, I want to share with you a three part mental model to design your ideal life and create your passion. The first one is your motivation. What drives you want to impact?
Do you want to make? because oftentimes your passion is in a specific career or job title. is a deep desire to help somebody or maybe to create something of your own.
and I think the book Start with Why by Simon Sinek is a really great book about this. Even though the book is mainly target companies who can describe better why they do what they do in terms of their mission. I think this also applies a lot to our individual lives as well, is that we're not defined by what we do.
That's not our identity. Our identity is defined by why we do what we do instead. I'm a marketer.
I realize that it's not that I love marketing is because I love the creativity To think outside the box. and using this creativity to get my stories heard so I can help more people to make the changes that they want to make? You don't just love traveling.
You enjoy new challenges and experiences. He enjoyed learning new things in a whole new city where you had no idea where you going. You don't just love music.
You love how it becomes a medium of emotional expression, how you can communicate feelings in a very incomparable way. we do think deeper about why we love the things that we do in our lives. And I can give you so many clues that can help you shape into your passion, because at the end of day, what we do is really just the medium for us to express the underlying desires and impacts and goals that we have.
The second part of this three part model is your interest. What are some of the things that you're naturally curious about? What are some of the things that you're in so much flow and let me know if this kind of happened to you as well, that you forget to eat and sleep Well, I don't recommend skipping, eating and sleeping.
I'm sure you've been there to where I've been. Instances where I was loving to do something so much when I was a kid. I forgot I didn't eat dinner.
Or maybe I've gone to bed too late. instead focusing on the activity that you were doing, which in my case it was watercolor painting. I would do it so much when I was a kid that literally I forget to eat dinner and then get so immersed into it.
But also what's interesting is that it wasn't the watercolor painting themselves, even though I was very good and really enjoyed it. It was the fact that I was able to express myself creatively and that I improved my skills every single time I did a new one. So let's discover this part about myself and apply this creative obsession into my own business and also my YouTube channel.
It helped me to become the best version of me during these activities and enjoying what I'm doing by having fun every single day to show that creative side of myself. Last part is your pursuits. Now think about your ideal day in mind.
What did you first get up in the morning? How does your morning commute look like into the office OR? Maybe you prefer to work from home or remote working in the coworking space.
What are the kinds of people that you enjoy working with either as teammates or as clients? And where are you having lunch? And when the day finishes, How do you plan to spend your time with friends or family or taking care of yourself and wind down from the day?
designing the ideal day with the end of mine is probably one of the most powerful things I did in my life what was the discovery phase. It made me realize what I wanted in my life, but also, most importantly, why I didn't want that either made me feel unfulfilled or sucked every last drop of energy other my body while I was doing those activities. And the other day, even though you tried out all these exercises, the most important part is to go there and try out for yourself.
Because I find that by looking back into my journey, I waited way too long for me to do any action on the path of this analysis. My paralysis, this indecision that all of us end up with ruminating over the choices of should I do this, should I do that? But actually not taking any action at all.
And I was too afraid to step out of my box and be different. So the more I experimented alongside with self awareness and discovery, the more I got closer to who I am today. So if you struggle with this as well, I recommend these two videos here that you can check out that can really help you to think about your next steps in finding that passion to move yourself forward.
