feeling tired is one of the biggest obstacles to getting into shape or achieving anything you want to in life for that matter trying to motivate yourself to go to the gym or even to do a home workout is Hardo when all you want to do is crash out after a hard day at work but being tired is inevitable as you get older right especially if you have a busy job especially especially if you're a parent well actually it's often not that simple in fact the source of your tiredness might not be what you think it
is it might be very easily fixable in fact and I'm talking immediately fixable it worked for me and after years of feeling like I just want to crash out in the evenings I now rarely feel exhausted even though this is the busiest time in my life here's how you might be able to do the same so what is tiredness this is really a follow-up to a video I made a while back in that video I explained that you probably aren't tired at all at least not most of the time time instead you're probably lethargic what's
the difference well tiredness is a result of not having enough sleep or of being very active for an extended period but if you've worked 8 hours by sitting down at a desk why are you so tired what about that is so tiring maybe you're not getting enough sleep but that's easily fixed and actually studies suggest that the perception of having slept it's just as important to how you feel tell someone they had a good night's sleep even if they didn't and research shows that they'll actually feel and perform as though they did the problem isn't
that you've been too active then the problem is that you haven't been active enough you're lethargic because you spent the last 8 hours sitting in one spot typing in a dark room feeling stressed or riding the train in one spot feeling stressed as such your body has shut down it doesn't need energy so it's conserving it your muscles are probably feeling stiff and seized up and when you get home your neurochemical cocktail is in the rest and digest mode if you've been living this lethargic lifestyle for weeks months or years then your mitochondrial activity is
likely lower too and crashing out when you get home has likely become a habit the aim of this video then is to show you some of the most powerful ways to flip that around and switch your energy switch back on again so the key to getting your energy back is actually to move more exercising will not only get your heart pumping and blood flowing around your body again delivering energy and oxygen to brain and muscles it will also produce wakefulness hormones and neurotransmitters like adrenaline dopamine and cortisol it tells your body time to wake up
but here's the rub you're probably too tired and lethargic to want to train now the problem isn't the training itself it's switching immediately from not moving at all all day to suddenly being asked to exercise and this is a recipe for disaster if you're coming home from work exhausted and then asking yourself to go and hit the gym hard even with a warmup that jarring transition is always going to be tough and if you're depleting yourself at the gym you're giving yourself less energy and motivation to train again tomorrow and now you're thinking of all
movement is this horrible thing that just leaves you exhausted and stressed the answer is simple don't only move when you're working out it's a shame I need to say this at all but hey that's Modern Life and I was right there with you no judgment something as simple as bouncing up and down on the balls of your feet can be a tremendous way to increase your energy throughout the day just do it for a minute every now and then when you're feeling a bit Dopey just enough to get the blood flowing not so that you're
out of breath and you'll instantly feel a bit recharged try it the same goes for stretching stretching can be even easier to convince yourself to try if you're feeling low energy but it both helps to rev the body up and reduces tightness and stiffness that can add to that feeling of Lethy and mes you know I personally take this even further by keeping kettle bells in the kitchen for example so I can practice while the kettle boils by Shadow Boxing when I get bored using these sporadically throughout the day ensure that you aren't asking your
body to go from n to 100 and you're never getting to that point where your body is just shut down due to being inactive you can also lace your routine with little opportunities to move whether it's taking the stairs up and down at work whether it's walking to work rather than taking the bus and you know what's even more effective for boosting your energy levels like this having a little dance next time you're doing the dishes put on some music that you enjoy and try enjoying moving your body to the Rhythm it does sound sounds
silly but the combination of uptempo music and movement will ensure you have far more energy to be productive in the evening it's a great way to boost your mood and your mood is tied very closely to your energy levels this is also another reason that warming up is so important it allows you to ramp your body up gradually but the reason it doesn't work often is that we tend to think of exercise as this All or Nothing Affair we might start with a warmup but we know that we're going to be doing an intensive workout
straight after that and so we immediately put our barriers up so instead of trying to force your body to work instead try working with your body instead of that grind mindset try this approach tell yourself all I'm going to do is some light stretching and if I feel able to do more I will and make sure you really believe it how do you believe it simple you stop viewing those less challenging movements as pointless you see the value in basic stretches and movement practices so that if you genuinely only do finish your warmup it doesn't
feel like time wasted there's a good chance the warm-up will give you the energy to do more but if it doesn't that's fine for me as long as I do my stretches I know I'm giving myself the best chance of moving painfree for life and something as simple as a shoulder stretch is still progress towards better handstands but it's also valuable because movement itself is inherently valuable and here's the thing when you move regularly it becomes more easy to move more regularly have you ever taken a week off of training and found it really hard
to get back into the groove that's not only because you're out of the habit it's also because your body has physically changed even in that small amount of time that's all it takes to downregulate mitochondrial activity the good news is that you only need to do a little regular movement for a week again to get it back and that will make every other type of movement even easier it might be even less it'll make it easier for you to do the chores to work on your projects or to go out with friends in the evening
everything becomes easier this is one of the True Values of exercise that so few people fail to recognize it's not just about becoming a freak athlete simply moving is absolutely Paramount to keep yourself limber and energetic so that you can enjoy living life to the fullest for longer so even if you have no interest in being a bodybuilder make sure you're regularly moving exercise isn't only for getting stronger losing weight or getting abs and if you are a gym rat make sure that's not the only movement you're doing make sure you're not only using movement
to batter yourself down just as often use movement that invigorates you and leaves you with more energy than you started you'll also sleep better improve your cardiovascular fitness Spike Feelgood hormones and if you're new to Fitness think of it this way you need to build some Basic Energy before you can start building strength or losing weight it's foundational a great way for many people to get started is with 10 minutes of jump rope a night something that simple will ensure that you never get to that point where your body completely rejects activity it's a skill
that's fun to learn you can do it anywhere you can go at your own pace but because it uses the whole body it's perfect for getting the energy flowing and keeping your battery healthy and if you're looking for a great rope to start jumping with allow me to introduce you to today's sponsor cross rope cross rope makes the best jump ropes I've ever used they are made from high quality materials with handles that feel sturdy in the hand and a rope that won't degrade over time with use and they utilize Advanced spin mechanics to give
them a tremendous sense of flow as they spin better yet the handles detached seamlessly from the ropes meaning you can easily swap them out to try different weighted ropes adding a little extra weight is a great way to get the muscles working hard harder while also slowing the movement down slightly so that you can learn Advanced tricks it's one of the big reasons that I love using cross rope and with the amp handles you can also connect to the Cross Rope app then track your jumps and follow along with a number of ready-made routines and
workouts really great for seeing your progress and for motivating yourself to keep going there's a 60-day trial period so you can send them back if they're not for you there's no risk and if you use the code bioner at the link below you'll get 15% off your order thanks again to cross rope for sponsoring this video but it doesn't have to be jumping rope the point is movement is the key to waking up and feeling energetic and if you do use gentle movement regularly you'll avoid feeling lethargic in the first place a few final tips
if you want to productive evening don't eat so much in one go that you feel sluggish digesting consider keeping the light brighter until you're ready to crash don't try and force yourself awake with caffeine you'll still be tired just wired and rung out being outside more is a great hand act for greater energy in both the shortterm and the long term do some regular cardio so many people seem puzzled that they have no energy but they never consider training their energy systems listen to your body the aim of this video is not to tell you
to push through tiredness it is okay to relax every now and then if you try all these things you still feel very lethargic I highly recommend going to see your doctor it could be an underlying condition and when you are ready to take your training further and see just how many other areas of your life can be positively impacted by a training program that isn't just focused on Aesthetics check out my ebook and training program super functional training 2.0 it's in the description down below and if you're watching this around Black Friday there's a big
