let's get one thing clear we all want to breathe healthier and easier right the easier it is to breathe the better you'll feel which is why it's so important to take good care of your lungs many people don't realize it but our diet and the things that we put into our body plays a role in the health of the respiratory system just like every other organist system of the body our lungs need adequate nourishment as well that is why it's so important to eat a healthy diet full of vitamin-rich foods that our body needs and
that is exactly what we are going to discuss in this video by sharing with you some of the most important vitamins to be aware of be sure to watch until the end because there's one that not too many people know about so if you're ready let's get into it just a quick reminder we are not doctors this video is for informational purposes only the first vitamin that we need to talk about is vitamin c vitamin c is an important antioxidant for the immune system because it helps with the creation of new white blood cells that
work naturally to ward off infections therefore if your diet is lacking in foods that contain vitamin c your body will have fewer white blood cells which means a weakened immune system and a greater likelihood of getting sick this leaves you vulnerable to certain viruses and bacteria including those that are detrimental to your lungs and respiratory system not to mention a study found that consuming vitamin c may actually help reduce the risk of lung cancer as well zinc is another essential mineral that we had to include in this video it's often recognized for boosting the immune
system by promoting immune cell maturation and performance especially in t cells this helps protect the body from certain viruses and bacteria which is critical in preventing respiratory infections from occurring zinc also has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce chronic inflammation and oxidative stress some foods that are high in zinc include meat shellfish seeds nuts and legumes another vitamin that i should mention is vitamin a vitamin a is a fat soluble vitamin that plays several important roles within the body it supports a healthy immune system by maintaining the mucous membranes within the lungs which are vital for
protecting against foreign invaders this includes viruses and bacteria that could potentially affect the respiratory system a study also found that consuming higher amounts of vitamin a may actually lower the risk of certain types of cancer including lung cancer keep in mind that consuming too much vitamin a can have toxic effects on the body which is why it's best to speak with your doctor about the benefits risk and recommended dosages this goes for all the other vitamins that we're talking about in this video as well moving right along next we need to talk about beta-carotene beta-carotene
is the nutrient that is typically found in orange or yellow fruits and vegetables it's a powerful antioxidant that can reduce oxidative stress and neutralize unstable free radicals in the body this is helpful in decreasing the risk of several chronic diseases including those that affect the respiratory system some examples of foods that are high in beta-carotene include carrots sweet potatoes cantaloupe red and yellow peppers apricots and butternut squash just to name a few next up on our list is vitamin d vitamin d is a powerful nutrient that has several important functions within the body it helps
promote a healthy immune system and facilitates the absorption of calcium which is important for maintaining strong and healthy bones unfortunately it has been estimated that nearly half of the adult population is deficient in vitamin d and a vitamin d deficiency can lead to many different health problems including heart disease diabetes immune system disorders and even types of cancer our body produces vitamin d naturally whenever it's exposed to direct sunlight you can also get vitamin d in your diet by eating foods such as salmon eggs shrimp and fortified cereal resveratrol is another property that we need
to discuss it's a phytonutrient compound that functions as an antioxidant in the body researchers believe that resveratrol can help lower blood pressure decrease cholesterol levels increase insulin sensitivity and potentially even suppress cancer cells one study found that resveratrol can help decrease inflammation in the epithelial cells of the lungs this is useful in preventing certain respiratory inflammatory illnesses from occurring next up on our list is vitamin e it's a fat soluble vitamin that functions as an antioxidant in the body by protecting cell membranes researchers believe that it can help prevent certain chronic inflammatory diseases such as
obesity and diabetes studies also found that consuming vitamin e naturally in your diet may decrease the risk of lung cancer with that said vitamin e supplements are not effective when it comes to prevention some examples of foods that are high in vitamin e include almonds sunflower seeds spinach and broccoli selenium is another essential mineral that we need to discuss like others that we've mentioned in this video selenium also helps prevent cell damage by eliminating free radicals and reducing oxidative stress it does so by helping the body produce protein and antioxidant enzymes believe that it may
help reduce the risk of heart disease in certain types of cancer selenium has anti-inflammatory properties that are believed to be beneficial in those with asthma as well and we couldn't have made this video without mentioning omega-3 numerous studies have revealed that omega-3 fatty acids can provide several different benefits for the human body researchers believe that it supports a healthy heart reduces inflammation prevents obesity and provides a boost for the immune system each of which can indirectly benefit the lungs and promote the health of the respiratory system you can consider a fish oil supplement in order
to consume more omega-3s or you can eat more fatty fish such as salmon tuna sardines or trout next up on our list is mcts which stands for medium chain triglycerides mcts have been found to serve as an alternative energy source to glucose which can help prevent obesity and reduce the risk of developing heart disease mcts are also known for having anti-microbial and anti-fungal effects which can protect your body from certain infectious diseases mcts are most commonly extracted from coconut oil which can be used for cooking in your healthy diet so just to give a quick
