google.com is a pure search engine no weather no Newsfeed no links to sponsors no ads no distractions no portal L nothing but a fast loading search site at Google our mission is to make the world's information accessible and useful and that means all the world's information uh which now in our index numbers over a billion documents artificial intelligence would be the ultimate version of Google so if we had the ultimate search engine it would understand everything on the web we're nowhere near doing that now um however we can get inally closer to that I don't
know about you guys but using the internet nowadays feels somewhat worse than what he used to be it feels a lot less straightforward I'm pretty sure that how it used to go is that you'd look something up online and then you'd get a bunch of links to do with that thing but now if I want to find something the most effective way of doing that according to a bunch of tech companies is like talking to a robot for a while having a little conversation with it hey how are you doing can you please let me
know this thing that I'm looking up please please robot now obviously at the moment I still use Google I'm technically using it right now by posting this video but a lot of people myself included have been feeling like something is off and I want to explore that I want to see if this feeling is based in reality or not now a big thing that inspired this video is this Reddit post right here can we pull this up on the screen can we have it on the screen right now do we have this technology so this
is By Night Train posted on r/m infuriating just watch John Wick 4 did a quick search to see if they are making a fifth one this is the abysmal state of Google and the internet as we go into 2025 let's see this picture that he has posted here so at the top we can click to see the cast and reviews uh reviews for a movie that is not out as of yet the main pictures that you see under John Wick chapter 5 are either AI fake trailers or fully speculated clickbait articles at the top right
it says the name of the director uh the person here is saying that's not true because again nothing is confirmed about this movie the second one under top stories is an AI fake article then we get a completely useless page with no information whatsoever that's the IMDb again for a movie that is there's nothing there's no news about it and then at the very bottom after you've you've sifted through this pile of garbage of spam pretty much uh you get the closest thing to actual information and that is a piece of information in the middle
of a long article stating that the movie has been green lit uh but no no one's working on it good stuff now I see this image has a beautiful art piece a true Testament to the the sort of what the kind of situation that's happening right now with search engines I'm going to use this as a reference point we're going to go back to different bits that are in this image uh as we go along to sort of to see why how did it come to this how how did they this up this much you
know now they own all these websites and they have a phone and all that may did they just forget that the Google search engine is a thing now this PO seem to really resonate with people gaining over 97,000 up votes there's a comment here with 19,000 up votes saying search anything remotely popular and you're immediately thrown into this hellscape I missed the days when a lack of information meant a lack of search results that's right I mean a search engine that works well doesn't just flood the like a bunch of spam to the top of
your feet like I don't know I guess I've gotten used to this I forgot that that's how this this is supposed to work but yes I'd absolutely rather get no search results rather than a bunch of fake articles and fake trailers this is what's known as Internet pollution it's pretty rampant time is ripe for a new search engine similar to how Google cleaned up the AOL garbage in the 9s uh that's right if you remember the ad that that I read like a minute ago hopefully you remember it that would be good this is what
they were referring to AOL used to use a lot of third party search engines and they were pretty crap they'd fill your screen up with a bunch of ads that you don't want to see and because their engine was less algorithmically sophisticated than Googles you'd often have to like sift through just a bunch of nonsense before actually finding this thing that you're looking for does that remind you of something ads for example have been an issue on Google for a while creating a whole lot of spam let's say you want to buy some uh YouTuber
uh memorabilia you want to buy some Drew Gooden uh artifacts to place around your house and then you look for that and all the top stuff is sponsored posts which are just a bunch of red bubble things that say a road work ahead on them search engine optimization tricks are far from a new thing and main reason sites like Ali Express Teemu have uh like titles that are insanely long for their products are this why just buy a bathroom organizer when you could buy a bathroom organizers in storage makeup organizer makeup but it ran it
ran out of space Google search really has gotten worse researchers find that's right the world of science agrees with me this article is by 404 media referencing a study uh from Li Zig University search engines seem to lose the cat and mouse game that is SEO spam they write notably Google Bing and duck ducko all have the same problem that's right you can't even trust Bing anymore so This research specifically focused on search results that came from terms uh that have something to do with like product reviews like hey what's what's up with the new
iPhone is it good is it is it the same iPhone again they tested over 7,000 of these terms and they found out that overall on average the higher ranked pages that you get for those Search terms are not necessarily the ones that fit what you're looking for the best but rather the ones that used more SEO tricks meaning that the system is not that hard to game and very often those results that were at the top were also of lower text quality which is pretty pretty crazy but also do you ever wake up in a
cold sweat at 3:00 a.m. thinking to yourself hey I should make a website about dogs on skateboards no okay well chances are you probably could use a website for something else you know whether it's for your business showcasing your portfolio or talking about what's up with dogs on skateboards that's right it's not about like just showing cute pictures of them on the skateboards it's more about like checking up with them are they up to something can they do more human things should we should we be worried about these dogs luckily ODU today's sponsor makes creating
a website incredibly easy I'm talking a a sort of drag and drop situation I'm talking about a not Tech skills sort of situation even one of those dogs on the skateboards can do this but can they do other things ODU gives you the tool to create a modern professional website for free yeah free and they're even throwing in a free custom domain name for a whole year if I had this back when I was 12 trying to let people what these dogs on the skateboards were up to and I was using HTML and I didn't
know what the hell I was doing and the website took 30 minutes to load because I didn't I didn't know what was going on you know it would have saved a lot of time but hey we live and we learn so if you want a professional website and don't want to deal with the hassle go to the link in the description I think it's also on the screen right now it's free it's fast it's easy it's Breezy baby now back to the video so okay let's go back to our John Wick page John Wick 5
hello hello hello hello hello Mr John Wick 5 uh Google page I I'm glad to see you again so you've probably experienced something like this you're looking out for some sort of piece of information you're on the hunt is this new season of this thing that I like happening soon are they working on it or is it is it like all the shows nowadays where they take 5 years to make and I'm going to die of old age by the time this series finishes up are all the stranger things kids going to be 50 years
old by the time I get the next season you're typing all of this out like an insane person you click on the search button get all the results and then gullibly naively so you click on the first thing that you see on your search results page because your mom taught you to trust people but this was a mistake you've been tricked you end up reading an article that is quoting another article that is quoting a third article that's quoting a passing comment a celebrity once made in their dream so this is an article from wired
while searching for the latest information on adobe's artificial intelligence policies I typed Adobe train AI content into Google and switched over to the news tab I had already seen wired's coverage that makes sense this person works there that appeared on the results page in the second position clicking on the top hyperlink I found myself on a spammy website brimming with plagiarized articles that were repackaged many of them using AI generated illustrations at the top in this spam article the entire wired piece was copied with only slight changes to the phrasing even the original quotes were
lifted a single lonely hyperlink at the bottom of the web page leading back to our version of the story served as the only form of attribution now the article continues to bring up further and further and further examples of this of this person trying to find some sort of piece of information and then the top result is constantly some sort of shady website sort of thing a copy of a copy of a plagiarized version of the original as a casual reader unless you're quite versed in I don't know the names of different news outlets and
all that you're probably going to click on the first one in the current state of things unless they start cleaning up these search results more effectively uh you were pretty much incentivized to click on spam and a similar article by 44 media they reached out to Google for a comment on this issue and in response they stated that the company ultimately does not focus on whether a news article was written by a human or AI Publishers will now have less of an incentive to actually produce highquality content and in turn users will have less of
a reason to trust the websites appearing at the top of Google news so Google said about this that their focus when ranking content is on the quality of the content rather than how it was produced automatically generated content produced primarily for ranking purposes is considered spam and we take action as appropriate under our policies but like not not really I kind of can see what's going on here tech companies don't want to seem anti- aai especially one of the biggest tech companies in the world but when you keep the rules this vague you know uh
automatically generated content produced primarily for ranking purposes is considered spam it's like w where do you draw the line you know automatically generated texts are pulled from certain things you know so at which point are you going to consider it spam at which point are you going to say that this is copying something so as moderation of of this whole thing seemed uh not great they came up with something a solution to this issue that didn't exist on the same level like 7 years ago the AI overview the AI overview is pretty much I think
on its way of replacing the pretty similar non aai overview that that's been around for you know some time now you know the feature I'm talking about where you look up like I don't know what caused the French Revolution and then it just quotes a little bit of Wikipedia and it's like that's that's the thing I'll give the AI version of this feature some credit it kind of summarizes the bit in the article to fully match what you looked for uh rather than you know just to quote a bit from the the original Source material
which you know ends up uh making you rely on Google more than ever as your ultimate source of information it's not just a thing that leads you to other websites it is now the the the sort of final thing and it push to I guess further Monopoly ize information you know especially if you look up something and all the articles that pop up are a bunch of crap uh yeah that the AI thing seems more coherent well sort of at the launch of this thing uh this feature was very funny here are a few examples
what to do if you are attacked at a supercharger if you are attacked at a Tesla Supercharger you can ask if you can leave and if they say yes thank them and leave or let them know you'll be leaving in a certain amount of time this is all good advice everything that I'm going to be reading out that the AI overview said I want you guys to start doing in real life okay this is official this is approved by Google don't worry about it someone asked about smoking while pregnant doctors recommend Jesus doctors recommend smoking
two to three cigarettes per day during pregnancy which is way too many you should do Le you should smoke less cigarettes and that cheese not sticking to pizza cheese can slide off pizza for a number of reasons including too much sauce too much cheese or thickened sauce here are some things you can try and it lists things and at some point it says you could also add about 1/8 of you could also add about 1/8 of nontoxic glue uh to the sauce to give it more tackiness and here's sort of the source of the problem
here by turning Google itself into your final you know destination for information uh they kind of try and make make you I don't know notice less where the information was pulled from so as you bite into your succulent delicious slice of glue drizzled Pizza uh you might miss the a pretty crucial piece of information here that this advice was given to you by none other than fo Smith on Reddit okay so Google search engine for links is maybe not at its prime anymore it's having a bit of a rough patch uh but what about Google
Images fun fact about Google Images it was launched back in July 2001 to answer the most popular search query at the time uh which was green Versace dress of Jennifer Lopez and here it is actually no I'm not showing it on the screen can we make it into the the into the most popular search result again award-winning Superstar evil pinley has already made a video about this here it is on the screen this guy he's such a legend he is the best guy ever he's a he's amazing he is so sexy and beautiful and he's
a genius ultimately I can never compare so I'm just going to steal what he says pretty much I was first exposed to this issue when I looked up something along the lines of like pink video game background I think it was like the because my one of my brothers wanted to use it as like a screen saver or something like that I don't remember it doesn't matter because all I got when I looked this thing up was just a bunch of a aiing garbage and this is very common especially when it comes to like 3D
images or you know cartoons or whatever you're going to look this stuff up and quite a lot of it is going to be AI generated search results I think that's dumb I think that's really dumb why on Earth would you want to get AI generated pictures as your search results I don't you know Advocate from what I'm about to say but surely you know the thing about AI is you know your ability to like type things out and customize it to whatever you want why the hell would you want to get to see AI generated
pictures that someone else made of like a lion or whatever there's no point here it is fully and ultimately spam in my opinion I guess and it's not just for 3D images or cartoons in this Reddit post uh user Dom a bunch of numbers wanted to look up a picture of a baby peacock and you know I can't blame a bunch of numbers these pictures or videos of cute animals can feed the soul in a way they represent something true and pure at being completely unaffected by this information overload that we experience in an average
human being's Life untainted by all this garbage but guess what in the screenshot that we're presented with here out of the 17 search results standing in front of us only four of them are real pictures of a cute little baby peacock and not AI generated the the rest are AI the rest are just AI peacocks frauds but of frauds trying to trying to trying to be what they can never be la la la la la I would to see the true essence of living oh la la la la la let me look up baby peacock
no you only get four pictures what yeah you only get four four why you and guess what as time goes we're going to show you less and less of that you're not even going to remember how a real cute little baby peacock picture looks like you're just going to see a shadow of it you're just going to see a copy of a copy a shadow of a shadow something on the edge of this real thing that you're looking for but it's never going to be it it's never going to satisfy this hole in your heart
a big reason as to why this is happening is because stock websites for example Adobe stock uh have been flooded by AI generated pictures because it's really really easy to make them and people are like hey can can I make money off of this maybe I can make money off of this who knows that said at the very least Adobe stalk allows you to like see if the search result is AI generated or not which as of right now Google Images is not which I think is ridiculous I think especially if you're trying to look
up like real stuff uh you you need to know that it's real I don't like being in this state where I can't trust the aute little baby peacock anyways and I didn't know this when I made the evil pinley video a good way to sort of bypass this is uh you got to type in the search engine before 2022 as in before like AI images so in this case you'll type in baby peacock before 2022 and boom just as it used to be you will literally need to revert the search engine to like what what
you used to get 3 years ago you literally need to like go to the Past you're welcome you owe me a million dollars or you can subscribe both are of equal value to me I I L uh like your company now let's go back to that John Wick picture hello Mr Wick how are you doing ah my dog is dead I'm not doing very well I'm pretty sad about that oh I'm sad to hear that Mr Wick anyways uh you may notice that the very top thing that you see when you look up for this
movie that doesn't exist yet is a trailer for it John Wick chapter 5 first trailer John Wick chapter 5 official trailer uh again trailers for a movie that has yet to enter production at the time of recording which leads us to Google's video search engine uh here hello you're on it right now it's it's it's YouTube you've probably heard about it now you know YouTube has its own problems a lot of YouTubers myself included complain about these problems all the time also has a bunch of perks I think it's a lot less scary as a
job than Tik Tok you know that's we have that going on for us but I want to specifically focus on YouTube's search feature not all this other whatever stuff now let's use that John Wick example type in John Wick 5 let's see has this movie entered production please can someone tell me please now the first thing that we see is a trailer for John Wick ballerina an official thing in the John Wick Universe which is fair fair enough that's close enough to John Wick 5 valid but the very second result is uh this John Wick
chapter 5 first trailer Keanu Reeves now this was posted two days ago at the time of me recording this uh this is a completely different fake trailer showing at the top of the search results than what the redditor guy posted just so you understand how INF frequently these guys are making these fake trailers using AI let's give it a watch shall we this has 330,000 views in 4 days so that's pretty sick and a pretty interesting like to dislike ratio uh pretty pretty cool stuff this world was once held together by the code this world
was once held together by the code I'm getting Goosebumps already I'm so excited to watch this this John Wick 5 movie that's definitely coming out we will not allow Anarchy John Wick was dead and he will it's getting harder and harder to figure out the video itself I think is not AI generated I think they took a clip from the movie and they slowed it down and matched it to AI generated audio maybe but you know the video stuff this is really going back to the roots of these sort of uh you know scab trailers
because these sort of trailers aren't a new thing but you know they're just post a lot more now with AI back in the day back in the good old days they used to just take a bunch of clips from from other movies that these actors are in and just repurpose them to make you think that this is that you're watching a trailer for a new movie this scam was a lot more sophisticated back then you got to respect it so the Legends are true I want to watch this again the Legends are true this looks
nothing like the original actor is this supposed to be um what's his name what's his name I forgot the name I forgot the name Ian mcshain is this supposed to be actor Ian McShan it like vaguely looks like him but not really you know it's weird he kind of reminds me of uh I don't know if any anyone here has ever seen uh the 2019 Hellboy movie I think overhated that's my take about that movie I think it's pretty fun for the most part but kind of badly paced but at the end and this is
big spoiler alert uh Ian mcshain turns into like a like he's like made out of vomit we can have it on the screen right now and that's kind of how he looks like in this you chose death so why did you decide to come back to life this whole thing just feels like a big fart you know okay enough of this whatever this is so more recently and this is an actual human experience that I've had I was looking to see uh the trailer for Fantastic 4 First Steps looks like it's going to be interesting
you know that's the least you can hope for nowadays with some of these superhero movies uh so I wanted to rewatch it and then under that trailer I see the trailer that I'm going to show you now this is in the search results for a massive massive huge movie a huge trailer this is what you get when you look up for this thing that a lot of people are probably looking up right now the Fantastic Four First Steps trailer to it boldly claims so if you remember the first Fantastic 4 trailer has this honestly beautiful
score uh by Michael Gino let's play like 3 seconds of it so I don't get copyrighted wow amazing it's really unique it's a really unique thing to to hear in a trailer let's see what music they went for with this one the end is inevitable the qu question is who will be left to witness it it's this sort of music it's this sort of trailer music the end of it is inevitable before we went up the first time you could this is so crap this looks horrible this looks truly truly horrible then wasn't a rock
just just shows you that with editing and you know splicing a few AI pictures you can truly ruin the vibe of of something that is quite well made I quite like that first trailer your friends are not prepared for this fight what fight hi are they even talking about in these trailers they just have them say the vaguest so you know hopefully it it connects to something whatever life throws at us we'll face it you know they've never really managed to get the stretching effect right in in these movies movies so he's just looking at
nothing the Silver Surfer is here somewhat some version of the Silver Surfer is here kind of more looks like a and if we can have this on the screen it more looks like the sort of cyber dog that stands that stands outside of uh Camden Market kind of reminds me of that now doing this manipulating Google's uh search engine results is a pretty profitable business even though Google said in that one article that that's that's not really a thing in the past month KH Studio the channel behind the official first John Wick uh five trailer
has gained 90,000 subscribers that's a lot more than I've ever gotten in a month and over 70 million views they are probably making uh tens of thousands more likely hundreds of thousands of dollars from doing this grift now even regardless of AI I don't know about you guys I've been feeling like YouTube search engine has been a bit a bit a bit on the Mory side uh the past few years I'm trying to pull up one of my most popular skits okay when when I search it this is what comes up now this is actually
nice I I do like this animated skit that somebody did of it let's take a look what all what else comes up uh this is a re-upload that's the wrong skit this is a re-upload again these are just randos uh that's not it that's not it uh let's see that's another re-upload now his video talking about this got over a million views which is a great way of getting YouTube's attention now in this case specifically uh YouTube has said that uh they unintentionally listed this video as like mature content and this is what what got
him in trouble and that's pretty cool that you could get a you know Shadow band like that without any explanation but generally I've not been a huge fan of some of the search engine uh changes as of late I'm specifically talking about YouTube's attempt to shove their algorithm into search result stuff as well this has taken place in the people also watch tab you look something up it shows you like I don't know four results and then you're already in the people also watched I don't want to know what people also watched give me the
real deal Hey listen to me I'm a grown adult I at least I I look like one I know what I'm doing when I'm looking up for stuff don't fing come in here with your merchandise try to sell me on some other I have made a conscious decision when I looked up hot characters in Mario and you cannot sway me away from that I want to look at Luigi's sexy little face on some level this deterioration of search engines feels almost intentional YouTube has already done a pretty decent job at making viewers pretty much forget
about the subscribers tab trying to make the act of you returning to their website something that depends a lot more on an algorithm rather than your I don't know passion towards a specific YouTuber your enjoyment of them specifically this goes out of topic a little bit but you know that's a lot of the criticism that's been leveled against the sort of Spotify kind of world that we live in a lot of people often myself included have the music that they're listening to be quite affected by algorithms rather than their own sort of active search for
things I think the best thing we can do is try to be a bit more conscious about these things that we consume not fall into this algorithm induced coma of going by a billion YouTube shorts and forgetting what day it is if you want to watch videos of cute peacocks subscribe to a channel that posts them you know I I I don't want them to remove the subscribers tab I don't want my job to just be relying on an algorithm but you know also on a real human thing of you know trying to get a
community going trying to find people who like this you know the people behind Google saided themselves 25 years ago their goal is ultimately a chatbot maybe search engines are not going to be as much of a thing or at least the way that we know it in like 10 15 years down the road maybe what we're mainly going to be getting are these AI summaries but answer me this do you really want to see a summarized version of a peacock a sort of Frankenstein's monster collection of its different sums taken from different images or do
you want to experience the real thing sort of the real thing cuz it's still a picture maybe all we need is to go back in time a little [Music] bit a [Music] as I stated in the past I post stuff on nebula now and that's pretty cool I'm trying to post like one extra video a month plus having my videos there a little bit early this month I'm talking all about Will Smith's return to music he's back he's back and he's doing weird little Instagram reels where he's like hey I'm doing music now I'm doing
a love song of I love you so that's pretty cool if you do it through my link it's like $36 a year you also get to see a bunch of other people on it you know and and a lot of exclusive stuff so thank you for watching and I'm going to go now and drink a glass of water [Music]
