Video Transcript:
The greatest biblical commandment is Love But the question is: do you know what love is? Jesus said that great commandment is to love the Lord above all things and your neighbor as yourself And that there is no other commandment greater than these By fulfilling these two commandments you don't need to worry about anything else But practically, how does it work? Some may think that loving the Lord is more important than loving your neighbor But the Bible teaches that he who does not love his neighbor, whom he has seen Cannot love God whom he has not
seen The book of Galatians says that all the law is fulfilled in one word To love your neighbor as yourself So if you were thinking that it is possible to love God without loving that person you cannot stand your conception about love is probably wrong And if your conception about love is wrong It becomes very hard to fulfill the greatest biblical commandment The love we normally know The love we see in the movies or hear stories about Almost always involves feelings, desire or liking someone But this is not the commandment's love The love with which
we must love our neighbor Is the same love with which God loved us As 1 John says, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another So is there more than one type of love? Theoretically, no The problem is that our language uses the word love in a general manner So in our language Differently from the hebraic or the greek Yes, there is more than one type of love Four, actually The first one is known as the friendship love And it is based on affinity On things you have in common with another
person You love someone that supposedly loves you back Actually, this type of love depends on that If it is not reciprocal, it comes to an end It depends on the circumstances And why can't this be the love with which God had loved us? Because Christ died for us While we were still sinners That is, in that moment we were God's enemies Therefore, it cannot be this friendship love The second type of love is known as the familiar love And it is very similar to the friendship love Because it is also a feeling However, it is
a feeling of commitment When someone is part of your life And usually you don't choose who you are going feel this way about But it is something that supposedly Grows as you live with this someone Consequently, we usually have this type of feeling for childhood friends Brothers and sisters in the church and mainly for our relatives Even though, it is still a type of love that grows or decreases As it is reciprocated or not Why couldn't God have loved us with this type of love? Because the Bible says that we are only part of the
household of God From the moment we give our lives to Jesus Christ This is the moment when we become sons of God by adoption And God has loved us before that And also, it would be impossible to love your neighbor with this familiar love If it is a person you do not know Right? The third type, is the love that involves passion Usually based on physical attraction and sexual desire It is a type of love that has an egocentric aspect You love someone for the pleasure he can give you It is the love in which
you want to possess the other person And it can happen even without physical contact This is the type of feeling with which Jesus said it is possible to commit adultery with someone Only by looking Through the desire And why can't this be God's love for us? Because even if we leave aside the sexual aspect of it And consider just the passion, the excitement and the satisfaction This still cannot be God's love Because God takes no pleasure in those who have sinned Now the question is Are these loving feelings bad? It depends on the context Depends
both on the motivation and on the person for whom you have this feeling In a couple's relationship, for example These feelings are fundamental By the way, if these three types of feelings are not identified and respected First the friendship, Then the commitment And only after that, the sex The chances you marry a person you are not a friend of Or not commited to Is very big But this is a topic for another video Our focus now is to talk about the love with which God had loved us The true love This love is not an
impulse that comes from feelings And it is not felt only for those you have affinity with It is an unconditional love That is It does not matter if the person deserves it or not It is a decision Followed by an attitude It is to do something for someone and not to feel something for someone The perfect love is unbiased It does not show partiality But it seeks for opportunities to please everyone Mainly those who share this same love That is why love and like Are distinct things Even though you do not like someone You can
act in favour of this person It is to do for someone What you would like this person to do for you It is to put yourself in someone else's place This is to love your neighbor It is putting away lying and speaking the truth Without only worrying about being a men-pleaser But to do things for the other's good And then, there is a problem How can we know what is really good for someone? After all, we can think that What is good for us is not always good for someone else In fact, it is difficult
to know What a person really needs As much as you know the person In many cases you will think you are doing good to someone When you are actually harming this someone But the question is that when you know God's love You know exactly What this person needs She needs to know this Love This is one of the big secrets behind this love We cannot reveal this love to anyone by ourselves It is revealed by God And through the Holy Spirit Our role is to show people where they can find this revelation And this is
possible with just one verse "For God so loved the world That He gave His only begotten Son That whoever believes in Him Should not perish but have everlasting life" God manifested his love towards us By sending his only son to the world Not to condemn the world But that the world through Him might be saved When we look to this verse We see that God gave his only son It was an action And the motivation behind this love was to save men from condemnation And give men eternal life By this we know what love is
Jesus Christ gave his life for us And there is no greater love Than to lay down your life for your friends The revelation of God's love is in Jesus Christ The Bible says in 1 John "In this is love Not that we loved God But that He loved us And sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins" It is only possible to love God When we understand the intensity And the depth of this love When we give our lives to Jesus Christ This love is poured out in our hearts The Bible says that
in this moment We were born again We were born of God And since God is love Only those who were born of God Can love Him And also love his neighbor And here it comes another big secret of this love Obedience Some understand obedience as something burdensome That God loves, but demands obedience In truth, it is not possible to separate love from obedience Because to keep the commandments Is to practice love Who abides in love abides in God Who abides in love has no fear Because all things work together for good to those who love
God To those who obey the Lord Everything you do for your neighbor Which brings him closer to God Any behaviour or attitude coming from you That reveals Jesus Christ and the eternal salvation Is the best you can do for someone And consequently for you After all, this is obedience And since the practice of love involves fellowship with people It is necessary to live as a church It is impossible to abide in love When you walk alone This is love It is to do good without expecting to be applauded for it To keep doing good Even
when you just get evil in return It is not to envy or resent others Not to think you are better than others Not to seek just your own well-being It is to be slow to wrath It is not to rejoice in iniquity But to rejoice in the truth "Love bears all things Believes all things Hopes all things Endures all things" What Jesus had suffered How he had suffered And for whom he had suffered Shows us that to love is to deny yourself for your neighbor Regardless of who your neighbor is "Vai na Bíblia" ends here
