10 reasons to believe in the Bible Greetings everyone, one more video from the channel "Vai na Bíblia" and today we're gonna talk about reasons to believe in the Bible from the assumption that God exists, and we've talked about this in our first video, now it is the time to understand why the Bible is the source of revelation and authority that He prepared for us. And for that we separated 10 reasons to believe in the Bible The first reason is because the Bible is a literary work. And why would a superior being choose to comunicate his will to the human being through writing?
For a very obvious reason: It is the only way of comunication that could be used by the man and preserved since the ancient times until today. A spoken and not written message would disappear with time. Only through the written record it would be possible to transmit and assure the autencity of a content over centuries.
The Bible is not only a literary work It is the most perfect literary work of history and of the world. Nothing compares to the Bible in terms of historical, archaeological and documentary evidences. If we understand that God is a being that knows everything and that can do everything, How would He allow it to be a lie a book in which a superior being talks in first person, claims to be the creator of everything, reveals its attributes and its nature and chalenges man to prove its power, its love and its loyalty?
To produce a literature in a period of about a thousand and a half years, to keep the unity of this content, even using over 40 writers, with different intellectual capacities, that, in their majority, didn't know each other, because they lived in different times and places, makes it totally impossible to attribute the man the authorship of the Bible. The second reason to believe in the Bible is because the Bible brings the answers. It looks simple to say the Bible brings the answers, after all many books also respond lots of questions about life, but the great difference is that the Bible concentrates absolutely all the essential answers to the human being, in a single book, ancient ant current at the same time.
It is the only book that covers all essential areas of our life: physical, spiritual, intellectual, familiar, professional, social and sentimental. And most of the times, through the achieved result after following a biblical instruction, we can prove if the Bible says the truth or not. And once proved these answers, why not to believe what the Bible says about subjects like salvation and the condemnation of the man, for example?
The truth is that the satisfaction in experimenting and proving an answer given by God through the Bible, opens up our comprehension and makes that certain questions never come back to our mind again. The third reason is because the Bible exposes the human limitation. If the Bible had not God as its author, but if it were a human initiative, assuming the man has a limited lifetime and all the prophets and biblical writers have already died which would be the purpose?
Some of the most important men of the Bible have their mistakes exposed in the Bible. Like the cases of Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, None of the over 40 biblical writers claims to be perfect, but they attribute this perfection only to God. How would it be possible for a person to write a story about the action of a superior being, and even after their death, others continue their story, giving it even more details about this same being?
How could it happen repeated times, over more than a thousand years, and all these stories point to the same way, show that there is something wrong with the man himself, and bring the same solution to this problem? Without action and supervision of someone with knowledge of past, present and future, that would be completely impossible. For this reason, and for so many others, is that the Bible is not concerned in proving God's existence.
The simple fact that the Bible exists already shows that. The fourth reason is because the biblical promises are fulfilled. It is obvious that the simple fact of someone making promises is not enough reason to believe a person, what really counts is if this person fulfills their promises.
And to know if this happens is always good to look for references, to know if this person usually honors what they speak. Even so, maybe not all the references are good, what will really prove if this person is trustworthy is our particular experience with them. The same happens with the Bible, we will find thousands of positive testimonies, but we'll also listen to countless complaints of unfulfilled promises.
The main question is that every biblical promise is conditional, To receive the promises it is necessary to do something, it involves faith, obedience, patience and perseverance. When this happens absolutely all biblical promises fulfill. It's possible to prove in our own lives the fulfillment of promises like peace, security, rest, prosperity, wisdom, among others.
And more than that, the fulfillment of these promises gives us hope to believe in even bigger promises, among them the promises of Salvation and Eternal Life. The fifth reason is because you don't need to give up reason. Unlike many people think, to believe in the Bible you don't need to practice a blind faith, without using reason, quite the opposite, we need to use our cognitive capacity, I mean, we have to know, verify, perceive ant interpret to assimilate its content.
The great question is that many people don't understand that faith simply comes before the comprehension, first you believe, and you got reasons for that, and then you understand. When we talk about the biblical faith, we talk about an attitude of obedience, based on what the Bible says, and in this first moment maybe you need to leave logic and reason in the background, but then this obedience will bring the comprehension. You will verify the result of this obedience and prove that what the Bible says is the truth, including in a rational and logical form.
The sixth reason is because the Bible reveals who is Jesus Chist. Jesus is a historical person, He was born and lived here on Earth about two thousand years ago, he is not a mythological being. Jesus was the most influent man that has ever lived, no doubt.
No other great leader inspired, and still inspires so many followers, to dedicate their lives in servive of others. Jesus' influence is not only evident because of the history divide itself between before and after Christ, but mainly because of the fact that in this moment, because of him, people are willing to face oppression, persecution, and even death. Jesus' life is told with details in four differente gospels, where the most humble of the men proclaimed himself as being the way, the truth and the life.
Someone who were able to make up a story like this and to create a character like Jesus, including the wisdom contained in his teachings, would certainly become even more famous than Him, and we know that such person doesn't exist. If you believe the Bible and practice what it teaches, the consequence is that you have a personal meeting with this same Jesus Christ. The seventh reason to believe in the Bible is the fulfillment of the prophecies.
One of the biggest evidences that the Bible is the Word of God are the prophecies that have already been fulfilled. Not only those ones that had their fulfillment described in the Bible itself, but also the ones that can be proved through the history books. An example is the prophecy made in the book of Daniel about the rise and fall of four empires, babylonian, persian, greek and roman.
In the order in which this would happen. Now between those ones that can be proved inside the Bible itself are prophecies made more than 600 years in advance, about the birth of Jesus, including the time and the place and about his suffering and death without guilt. The Bible had, has and always will have all of its prophecies fulfilled, without giving up absolutely any of them, including the rapture of the Church and the second coming of Christ.
The eighth reason to believe in the Bible is the contradictions issue. Many people think that it's impossible to believe in the Bible because it's full of contradictions, by the way, this is what many people point as being the great problem of the Bible. And indeed, it could not be considered as the perfect Word of God if it presented contradictions.
But the question is: is there really contradictions in the Bible? At first sight, certain passages can really look contradictories, but when you do a deeper search, you realize that actually they aren't. Two statements can be different without being contradictories.
For example, take the case of the blind in Jericho. Matthew tells it like two blind men found Jesus, while Mark and Luke mention only one. But at no moment Mark and Luke say that there was only one blind man, it's the same story by a different point of view, one statement doesn't deny the other, they are complementary.
In other cases, the story is only similar, but it's about another moment with other people involved. Besides, passages of a hard understanding, added to some inaccuracies in the translation of the greek and the hebrew, and also a trend in finding mistakes, will make that similar stories or different narratives, look like contradictions. The ninth reason to believe in the Bible are the discoveries of science.
The more the science develops and new discoveries are done, more people get insecure about the veracity of the biblical report on the creation. Indeed, many people think that to believe in the Bible it's needed to believe the world was created in six consecutive days of 24 hours, about 10 thousand years ago. and that all the modern science says about this question needs to be completely rejected, but, this is a wrong thought, because of the literary style that Genesis 1 presents, the literal interpretation happens not to be the only option, in the christianity for example, there are at least eight visions concerning the report of creation.
To believe in the Bible it's not necessary to embrace a single interpretation on the creation or even deny the literal interpretation, to believe in the Bible does not demand you to commit to decide for one of these options. the same way it doesn't demand you to know exactly what the prophecies of the book of Revelation are about. We know that Adam and Eve were real and historical beings from which descend all the human race but we don't have how to know exactly all the details of how the creation took place, including the existence or not of ice ages, dinosaurs or even the Big Bang.
The most important is to know that absolutely everything that exists was created by a single God. And the tenth reason to believe in the Bible is the personal experience. When we apply the biblical principles to our lives, it's possible to prove that the Bible is not any book.
The spiritual growth, the transformation that happens in our lives the understanding that the Bible brings, the way everything fits in a so perfect form, added to the possibility of seeing God talking to us in a particular form, makes that, among all the reasons to believe in the Bible, none of them overcome the personal experience. Maybe you can disagree of the most of these reasons, but the truth is that only a single reason is more than enough for you to give the first step: to read the Bible it's the only way you will be able to practice what it teaches and prove by yourself if what was spoken in this video is truth or not.
