have you ever wondered why some of your older videos randomly pop off and get tons of views especially when they started off so slow today Jen and I are going to talk about that exact subject and we'll actually even hear from YouTube as to one of the reasons that your older videos are popping off here on the Boost by vid IQ all right Jen I'm sure as a content creator yourself you know that sometimes you put out a video it goes nowhere and then months later when you look at it it has tons of views
yeah it is absolutely crazy when that happens when you're looking in Analytics but I've also experienced this so many times with creators not just with long form content but also with shorts but I think the most important thing to them is why did this happen why now how do I make this happen again I think we should break this down into two parts number one Why didn't it take off in the first place and number two why did it take off later so let's start with number one there are a lot of reasons potentially why
your content didn't take off in the first place the first one is maybe you've made some Evergreen content and Evergreen content doesn't always pop off right Jen different content Styles have different growth patterns and Evergreen is definitely one that has the potential to not take off right away we're not looking for that instant gratification we're looking for that rack up a bunch of views in the long run yeah and I'm actually going to show an example of that later on but that's a really great Point some of your viewers may not be super excited about
something that a lot of people in the future might be interested in right now for example tying a tie you can see here on YouTube there are tons of videos with millions of views on them but I guarantee you they did not get millions of views in the first couple of days sometimes you might be releasing something off seon so for example let's say you have a barbecue Channel and you're releasing all of your videos in December they're probably not going to do that well right off the bat another reason a video might not take
off right away is because you could be trying something new you could be trying to slightly pivot content to reach that wider audience but it might not resonate with your current community and that doesn't mean you shouldn't try new things it just means you might be rewarded a little bit later on for it and of course the easiest one understand maybe your thumbnail or your title is not connecting with your audience this is something we talk about all the time on vid IQ so obviously if you know this already you're going to say Travis I
already know this now tell me why it popped off Travis I already know this now so why does something pop off over time so as we talked about before Evergreen does take time here you can see a video that I created a long time ago where in the first 24 hours this thing performed poorly I was 7,000 views under my Norm it was terrible as time went on it continued to grow an audience through YouTube search and as you can see now it has over 1.4 million views that's an evergreen video that continues to get
views to this very day I feel like this is exactly what I was saying before this didn't find the audience just yet but over time it truly found the audience that it was looking for that was going to just absolutely absorb this content also remember earlier when you released that barbecue video in December like a silly person well now it's June and everyone's trying to barbecue so get all them views in we've given you a bunch of examples as to why a video might take off later on but we do have one more specifically from
Todd over in YouTube so I was meeting with a Creator once who was doing art content like how to draw various things and he had a video that he had uploaded around how to draw a particular type of thing and it was live for like you know many months I don't know if it was eight it could have been six it was getting you know kind of normal traffic and then all of a sudden it took off he's like I didn't do anything I didn't change the thumbnail like what did you guys change in the
algorithm like something must have changed you know I looked into his analytics and what I found is there was another channel that was also doing kind of art rated content drawing content that had uploaded a video right before his video went sort of like late viral so to speak and what happened is that the video from the other channel got a lot of attention it subscribers loved it lots of people who don't even watch art were like really getting into this other video and what that did is it created a new opportunity for the the
first creators video because it was of interest to people who are watching this other Channel's viral video and so it was able to be recommended in that context there were lots of New Impressions that opened up because attention had gone to this other channel in the space that had not been there before and he was able to kind of draft behind that attention so to speak and suddenly there was a lot more people watching art rated content including his video and you know that Spike that he had on his channel was bigger than any other
traffic he had seen on his channel in the lifetime of the channel sometimes it can be as simple as just another Channel uploading a really Successful video so now you've heard a bunch of different ways that a video that's older can pop off I wonder who in the comment section has had to wait the longest leave us a comment below and let us know how long it's taken for one of your videos to pop off I think we might see over a year I think we're going to see more than that you think I think
we're going to see at least 3 years watch one last tip if you want to know if a video has any kind of potential of getting views over time you can always go back and check the average view duration and see what the percentage is if it's good but your clickthrough rate is bad it's possible that people once they get into your video are really enjoying it but they're not clicking in the first place it could just be that your thumbnail en title needs a glow up now that you know why it might take longer
for a video to surface as well as some things that you can do to potentially help videos find their Evergreen potential and if that's still not enough there might be one other reason why your videos still not getting views and you can check that out right here
