[Music] [Music] this is a Fellers new to me 1957 Everet 210 of course it doesn't run and it's been off the road a minimum of 37 years and near as we could tell it needs absolutely everything from bumper to bumper so I'm going to do the right thing and try to get fired up again moving under its own power and kind of Le asure stopping and then attempt to drive it 150 M back home seems fine nope I don't even think it rolls it's great it's [Music] [Music] perfect so before we dig right in on
the rig here I want to share the history of the car with you or at least what I know about it and then we'll talk about vehicle anatomy and I'm not an expert by any means but I'll show you a couple tips and tricks how to quickly identify a tri five or a 57 in this case as it's scooting down the road there at a car show or something like that so The Story Goes an Oldtimer had it and uh he had dreams of fixing it up but it ended up just sitting in indoor storage
and we're saying a minimum of 37 years three of the tires match and the date 1988 okay he unfortunately passed away someone else bought it started disassembling it I'm sure it was going to restore it and project fizzled out another guy bought it to flip it and that's who I bought it from I couldn't work on it at his place so I have my friend go pick it up for me and drop it in his yard here so let's talk about the car itself really quick this is obviously a four-door and they call these sedans
a lot of people call them posts now if it's a hard top this section here is just gone they're really cool you roll down the front and rear window all of this is open now there's obviously twodo sedans hard tops four-door sedans hard tops there's TW door wagons four-door wagons and Nomads so there's a lot of different models out there now there's 150 model 210 and the Bair if you look at the stainless on this I could tell right away it's a 210 reason being is the 150 is your base mode of transportation and all
the stainless is back here only 210 has stainless going all the way to the front these beautiful little indents on the fender and then the B air obviously has that really pretty insert back here amongst other things there's interior and exterior differences now the 150s were typically a straight 63 on the tree didn't even have a heater very base mode Transportation grocery Church home that's it 210 had some luxury V8 this one should have a power slide automatical transmission you get some uh pulser options and then the stainless we just talked about and then Bell
Air was fully tooted up you know what I mean that's kind of how I just quickly identify what in the world are we looking at because between all of the different models themselves it's it can get a little confusing so we've got a four-door 210 we'll start in the trunk we'll dig around on the inside those AR my tires in there and I did bring some what knots and havs but we know based on that old fuel tank it needs a fuel system it's going to need brakes it's going to need engine work I'm sure
it needs electrical it needs everything all right let's walk around this see what we got let's go so we got black on white pretty popular color combo in when people respray these and we'll try to figure out what the original color was once we get the power bar and see the trim tags we can see the little bit of Regal turquoise coming through on this door that looks like Neptune green maybe so there's some different variations on the car itself but it could be panel swapped from vehicle to vehicle some of that say it could
be that Neptune as well I'm not really sure but it could be tricky because the brown oxide primer makes you want to think the car is coral but we can see that that's not the case we could scratch it here and there and see what it shows us there but there's not a lot of rust in this thing look at that that looks pretty good the corners of the door look great not a lot of weight reduction one big area these like to rust is right up here around the headlight buckets and this one looks
pretty good boy it's been painted many many times most of the stainless on here bumpers look pretty decent look at that got some old Bondo in here but this is a straight old car all that looks pretty good of course we don't know what's hiding under this piece that's self tappered on there but that's okay that's okay here's those old bias supplies I don't even know what the brand is they're holding wind though they're probably two but I'm sure missing the script back here not a big deal I think we'll do some scratch tests and
see probably do the quarter panels cuz the deck lid could be replaced to doors see if we can figure out what color this was based on that and then we'll eventually go look at the uh trim tag glass is pretty decent Wing window is pretty ducked up once they crack they just they go but the front looks pretty decent look at that Elgen Air Force Base really old sticker on there wiper arms missing this Wing window too but the Side Glass is in great shape wow wonder what what this was about some sort of Rack
or something on the back it's over here too here's your gas fill must be a tank in it still it's connected let see any stickers or anything back here on the bumper huh pretty cool old car well let's dig in the trunk I like to start back here see if we got any engine parts things like that we might have some treasures and whatnots kind of prepare a guy mentally for how much work we got to do boy I really hate to scratch the paint here but we're going to do some automobile archaeology I'm going
to take my blade and just scrape through the paint okay I'm seeing Brown oxide primer of course we'll go a little bit [Music] further and I'm seeing black under that so as black primered black what's under the black brown oxide again so this very well could be an original black car that's pretty cool I'll show you here so right under the black we have the brown oxide you go farther you get black again and then you go underneath that black you're back into Brown oxide and then metal so Brown oxide was painted black primered again
painted black again so that means the fender and some of the miscellaneous pieces have been swapped on the rig all right let's pop this open and uh see what we got in here when we were checking off the glass I saw the ignition sticks laying in the dash I'll be tipped I thought we were going to have to standard screwdriver it this says Lee Chevrolet havan Florida and I forgot to mention I apologize that is where the original Oldtimer had the car when it went through the uh State sale so it's a Florida car which
would explain why the thing is so rust free well we shouldn't say free but pretty goodish all right what key is this oh it's a Bluetooth key okay oh wow found the rust okay we do have Parts wow oh there's the gas latch how do you put it in I don't know wow we got stuffed you better get over here got us a gold mine here this could be all the missing stainless that's an extra piece so is that see some of these parts been primered though though and labeled go this must have been that
Old Timer door cover another door cover here's the gas latch hinge thought there's the original piece it was all rotted huh that's cool we got door cards so we must be missing that up there Sun visz ooh window crank Springs well we got a whole car here what for the hood there's some more door covers a used speedometer let's not have a speedometer in it that's a power slide speedometer there oh hey I think that's the fourth tire that that makes it a matching set Power cushion bias supp obviously it was down on wind so
someone must have throwed a radel on there looks like all the window cracks There were single one of them Dome Lage now it's inside window surround but oh gas cap we need that I am not seeing engine parts which is a good sign very good sign wow the smell is bad even back here well it's crack the seal on this bad boy it's is not bad it's not bad at all why does it smell so bad there's not even anything in here oh it's like a toilet brush dipped in hot vinegar spinach it's tart why
is this so [Applause] tart okay well that's good at least oh I think the tartness is coming from the tires maybe woo man a't much seats in here we got Springs I don't know you can come look oh the floor's gone that's good at least yep door cards gone carpet's pulled out floors are just shot they're done old fuel tank oh that's an used tank is there a new tank in it is this this one's from Florida so that must have been the fell that had it that's kind of confusing we have to check that
out there's the 210 symbol on the boop boop boop boop power slide it's probably a neutral there we go it's got pedals at least let's see what the brakes do that's good never God brakes the rear is even better I like the upholstery back here it kind of gives it a classy look don't worry about seeing the gravel on both sides everywhere it's so wet it's that stuffo there's the window surrounds on the inside okay well let me get the other Tire out see what kind of parts we have more stuff back here that is
all of the wiring to the car great literally battery cables lightning hoses the fuse block oh all the stuff for the dash radio weather stripping rearview mirror I mean they stripped this thing down to nothing well there's that color right there yeah see that back doors been swapped oh they got a floor pan laying over the floor pan at least they're both Rusty can't even tell it was repaired with window screen and Bondo when did I work on this that's weird anyway gasing straps I don't I don't even really know what I'm looking at at
this point back on the driver's side I remembered seeing wiring so I'm just checking oh yeah we do have a fuse block in there so that's got to be extra another set or something from a parts car nitrous nope well let's Gander under the power Barn here see what kind of ponies we got yes V8 which it should be with the 210 we kind ofish got completed oh okay seeing lots of uh evidence again that it was a black car resprayed black ooh bungee cords nice I'll take those oh it's I'll take the one sweet
well get over here and look I'm going to go hang this up so this little fella is going to be a two 65 or 283 and I think we can tell by the oil filter and it does have the provision and the block and there you can see it hanging down there so this is going to be a 283 small block in here and I was talking about paint here we can see the black over black pretty much everywhere in here all the creases and and whatnot but we can look at the trim tag which
is under the heater hoses or behind the lightning whirler oh and I can already see under here see that hole and that hole you can kind of see an outline actually the trim Tag's been removed unfortunately I don't know why probably use that another rig or something but that's gone unfortunately the engine's been rebuilt you can tell because of the paint overspray on everything so that's good but I'm sure they lost their receipts at some point or another but it's all here we got the old Harrison still here look at that tiny little sad cable
wow that's not locked up kick Down's not hooked up that's a temperature wire I mean it's all pretty much here that's pretty wild huh we even got the Dual horn lator still I brings the value up nope I like the keeper out of the manifold 5000 setup here for the uh heater hoses pretty slick unit I think I saw another heater core laying in the seat back there still on points obviously we got the old for jet fuel make it happen around here regulator's been gutted but it's all there maybe we can get that thing
fired up here's more of that oldtimers primer gray part rebuild 7,000 huh well you know the deal gu is just sitting here reminiscing Breeze is picking up oh even primered the front grill bracket this is my fourth 57 I've had a lot of 56s 55s more 55s and 57s anyway they've all been Coral this is my first black and the last one early days on the show here built it with my boys when they were KN to a grasshopper 350 swapped it fun car but anyway here's the program I don't know here's the plan don't
have one well they got sail and panel Gates uh we need to see if the engine rotates first and foremost and then I think we're going to just tear it down if it spins it's a small block Chevy it'll run how good I don't know yet okay but we'll tear into the ignition get the spark lators out probably soak it down while that's happening we'll do a tailgate rebuild on the for Jet and uh there's a Park Avenue over here we can maybe use as a bench or something I should probably buy that looks pretty
juicy anyway uh spark fuel compression valve timing that's what we're after let's hear this thing run before we put any more time into you know redoing the brakes I'm sure it's going to need wheel cylinders drum shoes Hardware master cylinder we'll break 15 lines have to do all that then we got to put a fuel tank in and run those lines and blippity bloop and you know the deal great news is it's supposed to be 47 today blazing hot all right let's see if this rotates so here's what a guy's going to do hit my
head on This Hood about 14 times but since we got a belt on here with a solid fan meaning there's no clutch on there should be able to grab the fan and spin it which will in turn spin the crank and we're going to try to get three 60° rotation and that's just to make sure that we don't have connecting rods binding bent valve train stuff like that we really don't know this is a pretty solid car to just shove away for call it four decades if it ran good you know what I mean but
we've seen weirder I guess so I'm just going to reach in here there we go okay it's slipping so I'm going to put pressure on the Belt it moved it's awkward I can hear the valve TR snapping it is moving okay so I'm pretty confident the engine does rotate freely which is fantastic but we probably might still juice it it's been sitting an awfully long time although I just saw evidence the intake been off it's got a Cheesy rubber gasket on it it would have been a cork originally so someone had the intake off huh
the more you know I guess so uh let's just dig in let's get the cap off the rotor the lightning hose get the spark lators out M will rip the fuel make it happer off as well just strip this thing down we'll try to put it back together hear this thing bang Off Make Some Noise if it's Fring on six we might make it home and if not at least a Tavern for winding Rings or something you know what I mean all right plan so here's that rubber gasket oh it's obviously extremely brittle it's been
there forever but at some point this intake was taken off why we don't know head gaskets just an intake swap leaking intake gasket we don't really know but anyway I'm going to tear the ignition apart like I said get this off and then we'll be back to juice it down with something [Music] w [Music] well the gu's got the sparkle Lors out lightning hoses off um this is all part I was just making sure TDC using the uh timing mark on the crank there and these don't look bad the old AC Doo 45s that looks
pretty good little city they almost look like they were cleaned and then jammed back in see like a wire wheel or something see that who knows when that was though and similar on this side they all look good might be a pretty decent Runner we're going to replace him though and then I got the for jet on the workbench over here oh it's got a trunk key wow anyway we're going to uh tear this down clean it up good good enough got a kit laying over here throw her back together this thing is rotten super
Rusty and something I don't think I've seen in a while look at this this is so rotted rusted there's pin holes in the valve covers so that'll be interesting if it does fire how bad it's going to leak but let's get the fuel make it happen to rebuilt and then we'll start putting the ignition back and by the way I Juiced everything up with the WD40 soak down the Pistons and cylinders it's floating in there right now so by the time we go to crank on this thing it'll have some lubrication and then the fuel
we're going to use to crank it will have some two-stroke oil in it as well to help lubricate everything [Music] oh [Music] rebuilt fuel make it happen going on it wasn't terrible dirty but it's still needed clean the old four jet called that for the obvious reason it's got four Jets two primaries two secondaries this one had 48s in the front 52s in the back here we go snug these up connect the throttle linkage we are good for well the guy's got some parts throwed up here some of these are necessary some of them are
kind of preventative they're going to fail in the short run most likely anyway I wanted to tell you guys this this is really cool this is an old AC r45 spark lator this is the newest this can be is 1974 and that's when AC became AC Delo so these are very very old awesome wide green bands kind of cool so we'll put new spark lators in we're going to put new condenser points Bast resistor which is right now being bypass this is a voltage regulator I got this super cheap on clearance it's like eight bucks
we'll throw that in and then we we got some federal wire set thing we'll throw that in and then we've got a cap the rotor looks fine um but I think we're going to throw all this stuff in first I'll start with the lightning staffs and then uh work our way over to the points we're going to keep the cap and the rotor off and we'll end up throwing in a battery I got a new ground cable here to replace this thing and then once we get a battery in it we'll see if the starter
works and that turns the engine over and then we can get in and actually start setting our points and everything like that a bunch of taking off and put in backand this is where we're at right now I think I'm actually going to start because we have a bunch of goop in the combustion pamber let's start by replacing this drawing a battery in if it spins over I throw all that extra stuff out before we Jam in the new sparc lators well as it went ahead and turned out I forgot to get a new lightning
Cube worry not I found one on the ground back here this thing power force iono Power I don't know look terrible definitely been through a recycle shop or something but any who and way let's give it a shot okay sure just got to replace the sad cable and we'll get this dead battery hooked up so if I'll were to go swimmingly well this battery is going to have juice somehow the key is going to go in ignition the starter is going to work and it's going to TL this V8 over like you wouldn't believe but
what's most likely going to happen is the battery's dead key doesn't fit and the starter's bad okay okay I got to get these tires off probably probably pretty soon we're going to get stuck here waiting for a shop to put the new rubber on the wheels let just started thinking about that I'd like to hear this run though but I guess either way we got to get new rubber on it if we're hauling it Towing it pushing it whatever it may be well the batteries in I got to thinking before we hit the key I'm
going to file these points cuz if these points are going to work that save the $287 and that I don't have to get it to where it's at right now where I can rock it back and forth and test for spark it's already in that position so trying to maximize production by being maximum lazy is what I'm saying get my file in here there is some white powder coming off but it's not terrible okay I got it right on the cam because we already rolled that over finding top dead center so now let's turn the
key on see what that does inside then we'll come out here and test for spark okay oh hey we got oil gen light and the fuel went all the way to full Boop okay so ignition's on now we'll go back out there so now that we've got the ignition on should be able to rock the rotor which is going to bounce the lightning wether off the cam and open and close the points ouch Moses sandals do we we have spark yep I got bit well that's a good way to test it watching there for a
little spark see that we have spark so that's great news I do want to put a new ballast in that's jumped right now but coil seems to be doing the thing according to my tingle Ling right arm points are working being uh filed so that's great Mak a progress here so here's our unit on the wall you can see it was just jumped over there we're going to put this guy in but it's got different fittings this is the old screw down style this is just a terminal so we've got to get these switched over
and get these switched over and then get this in place there stuff and things so excited to do brakes it's probably my favorite right underneath wiring nope that's not real oh okay M all right sure okay there we go now we got to Swang these over to a different fit work there we go wires solid put some Walmart fittings on there I'm in the bast okay sure mhm well come on now wow for Pete's sake what kind of a Mickey Mouse oh there we go just cut these I guess yes gu well these are handy
little things there BS let's make sure this is still going to put me in a cardiac arrest yep okay Prett good pretty good think I'm going to go ahead and oh we got smoke coming out of that or is that dirt any who going to go ahead and hook up the temperature sending unit as well all right got the cap back on resistors in fittings changed went ahead since I got the tools out here put a fitting on the temperature gauge wire batter is hot tightened up let's see if it rotates testing the key the
ignition switch the starter the engine itself and trying to rid all of the extra juice in the cylinders here we go yes got a [Music] Gallop rotating freely though I should check the oil huh oh blacker than my soul but she's full good enough to twirl it around on all right we're making some progress here aren't we we are okay that's what I like to hear well just a bunch of farting around coming up here next we've got to Gap all of our sparkls gapped and then Jam these in and then hook up the hoses
do all of that get the coil hooked back up and then we're finally to the point we can juice this thing up hit her with something flammable and maybe hear this thing Make some noise for the first time in almost four decades it's going to be fun actually let me cut my hands to pieces and get these in fast going to be a bunch of fun gapped Gap God Gap gapped perfect [Music] n [Music] Miss's all put back together guy patched up this vacuum line right here that's for the vacuum advance over there so now
we're going to Prime this thing and we are finally to the point we can crank this see if it's going to make any noise and if it runs fingers and left foot toes crossed we can continue on fuel tank brakes transmission we got a lot of work to do I only need to hear this thing run for like 5 seconds and I'll be able to build some confidence well I'm flooding it way too much fuel perfect okay it's in battery Cable's hot okay let's see what it does come on now bring the Thunder oil light
went off oh it fired come on oh it wants to [Music] yes yes yes yes oh it's alive we need a return spring on here it sounded halfway decent it built oil pressure before it lit off thank goodness oh that that is a relief it runs well a little bit of good news we heard it run and made some noise for sure sounds like the tail Pips is just unhooked from the manifold or something I was was not expecting that quite quite loud so now I think before the sun goes down which is pretty soon
here and we're on the opposite side of the shadish we're in the shadows we're going to lose light pretty quick so I'd like to turn my attention to the fuel tank back here we've got one from 1978 out of Florida that's used and I've got a neerish one over here says Made in Tay Wayne I don't think that one's open we're going to crack that open I'd like to get the rear end jacked up I think I'll put my jack stands on the frame we got to replace these tires anyway so maybe we can hit
two worms or three birds or whatever try to drop this tank tonight yet I'm sure we'll have to replace the rubber lines and all that but um there is is a drain plug in these old tanks but I think this one's going to be so rotten the pickup tube is probably disintegrated and gone as we've learned doing this for 20 plus years so let me get the Jack out get the rear up crawl under there let's get some Rust in our retinas now we're talking there we go I've been waiting all day to get some
gravel in my kneecaps see how high we can get this I should try to find some cardboard or something the lay on tricep T-Rex oo a penny what here I don't know can't read it there we go that looks pretty sketchy maximum sketch for maximum thrill make sure that you have a will hey that tire rolled oh so it's this one nice let's see what this does the key is not to look oh that doesn't seem right at all nope boy how am I going to do this I'll figure it out I need a piece
of wood found a chunk like a bed liner or something getting our first look under here going to say the brakes don't work that's weird so now we got to snap everything off here and over there and you know just keep keep snapping fuel line I'm sure is going to be rotted but let's start by getting these bolts out and then I'll figure out what we're going to do for this fuel line and uh see if that's going to leak or what's going to go on with that I was afraid of that I was I
was afraid that I was time for the best tool ever invented okay goodness gracious what in the devil huh come on man come on I can't believe it but I guess I got to I'm looking right at it OU wow for heaven's sakes oh good it broke glad glad for it well never get fixed okay now see if we can snap the side in half we got one we got one she's a [Applause] smok okay what uh what you got going on strapp Ro tank tankage need a pry barage yep guy's trying to remember is
it swoop or is it slipage then swoop I think it slips and swoops yep that was the case it was it was the case I don't know I think we could have use this tank though huh there might be a hole in this it's a pin hole it's hard to see okay oh was that wonder if guy just cuts that and we we Circle back I don't know this tank looks pretty good just got to run some marbles through it clean it up a little bit oh there's the float brand new wow I Ain never
seen it's like paper pretty wild yeah I'm glad we uh didn't try to use that this was boogered on we're going to have to boy I don't know how we're going to do this we're going to have to run a new line based on how this was pinhole leak right here uh I figured the line's going to be shot too so we're going to have to run a all new line as well we're going to have to run new bolts and everything going to be interesting well here's the new tank new sending unit and there's
the pickup sock that is typically rotten or plugged in all the vehicles we're working on this is the fitting out of the old tank I went right here but we don't have the right size fitting and I don't have a flare tool at the moment I'm going to have to get one tomorrow for brake lines I think what I'm going to do is cut it right here zip and we'll put a 3/8 line on it and that'll give us some rubber flexibility for service ability and installation Li see what I'm saying good so this will
go on here something like that come on man there we go and just confirming yeah yep so it'll be just like that I'll go get the hardware kit out of it get that screwed in and uh actually wonder if I should yeah we'll screw it in first that way it's nice and sturdy and I'll just bam take that off check this out oh boy I got a new O-ring for it but I don't want to try to put this on until I get all that out so I'm going to go into the shop try to
borrow an air hose and I just got done making this while little a knot and a washer on for this side then I'm going to cut off that side we're going to save you know okay oh yeah she's got some HPS [Music] huh doing laundry okay ouch woo that's a deep cut well hi I'm Derek okay now this will be a 47 month fight getting the vent on oh heard all my Hardware go okay let's take a break let's reset let's reset here where are we at where's the hardware then hook up that Electro digital
line for the gauge immediately regretting that there's the actual Hardware by the way I found the actual bolts to the tank after I made my own stuff for 14 months yeah they were in the strap kit so that was pretty cool you know I didn't need to do any of that stuff I just I knew that I was just showing you that you can make your own stuff okay that's what I was doing got a seat seat there we go I think that's seated sit better cboy chill and R and ride pretty sure that bent
the car in half but tanks in nonetheless let's bring that off a little bit oh the bumper was flexing all right now looks seated count is on okay I good if I reach that by golly I think I can okay boom tank is in tank is in repeat tank is in so here's our get up underneath the rig so now we've got some service Loops we got extra length on the rubber hose which will be connecting to some new line that we're going to run we got extra on this as well and that's tied in
so someone drops the tank again it's not just dangling off this stuff they got some service ability to bring her down in there also pretty nice Muffler hanger over here that's that's approved gu trying to Jack the front end of the rig up so we can Waller under and start getting the uh fuel line replaced but the Jack's not rolling so what ends up happening is you teeter totter see I was using this as a hammer but that wasn't really working see how about this is about to fall down so a guy gets in here
at the Tanya Harding persuade it back Jack about another inch and a half persuade it again and you just keep working back and forth you'll get there it's just going to take some time these hub caps are actually in really good shape I like that so guys got her up on all the paws here before the sun goes down we only got about 30 minutes I'm going to try to tear out the hard line fuel line that comes up follows the frame comes up into the pump there might be a small rubber piece there but
we're going to end up replacing that I want to try to get it out tonight so I can figure out what I need for supplies tomorrow so this is that line oh got stuff everywhere in my eyes runs up along here these are Clips just spread the clip lift and it should drop right down [Music] well that line is out pretty straightforward definitely didn't get anything in my eyes or mouth that's a little frame knock there so just going to replace this line you can see it is pretty rotten I'm sure this would have had
pin the whole leaks or something in it might as well just get her done now you know gu spent some time flushing the fuel line I've got a small stick on there because it goes to a fitting into a small rubber line right against the crossmember and then into the pump and uh just really don't want to deal with that so I've been flushing that spraying it letting it back wash spraying it back and forth but I think I'm at a good stopping point for tonight by the time I clean up all my tools everything
like that pick up all the trash from today I got stuff everywhere it is going to be pitch black but today was great we uh figured out what kind of rake we got did some Discovery went through the ignition went through the carburetor we heard it run we got a fuel tank in it started our fuel lines we're moving we're getting there but we'll see you guys tomorrow morning bright and early [Music] wow good morning back on the 57 here yesterday was a great day we heard it run a little bit got the fuel tank
in today I got to finish the line super quick this is what I'm going to use here it's a copper clad steel line resists rust better it's also really easy to bend by hand so I'm going to form that up like that one I talked my buddy Chad not Chad good or Chad great or the other Chad or Chad but mu or Chad into patching up the exhaust since that's what he does in that building right there tomorrow morning early so we've got to get this running we got to see if the transmission even shifts
you'll go forward go backwards machine and then we got to Do complete brakes lines wheel cylinders shoes probably Hardware drums master cylinder bleed it so we can crawl this thing into the shop tomorrow morning and get it patched up if all goes well we'll be on the road right after that just going to Boop clip this right back in where the other one came out well that's the plan anyway iy had to get uh flaring tools some brake line fitting stuff like that this morning and it has one for 38 so went ahead and we're
going to flare this up as well it's low pressure obviously but just so the line doesn't walk off going to plug a little bit of 38 rubber hose on this picked up some clamps cuz the ones I was using yesterday were off the ground and uh we'll start in the front under here and then I should be able to mold that into the clips do the same thing once I figure out the length I'll cut it with my tubing cutter I like to use the little guy wherever it went this guy they're easy to twirl
around underneath a rig see what I'm saying and then we'll plug in the back I'm excited to hear this thing run more than 4 seconds and and then we got a bunch of other stuff to do like change the oil tune on her a little bit need to get a throttle return spring I forgot this morning at the hardware store whoops new fuel line is in I just happened to cut it at the right length and we had the exact right amount of rubber hose on here as [Music] well there we go so fuel tank
is done let's go up to the fuel make it happer and button up that end believe I do want to put a fil tray in here and because we lost the the old school screen filter thing here the other half of it's gone and I want to try to get rid of this mess so I'm going to take this out quick see what threads we got H I might have something like that actually that's a MTO male adapter with a reducer into another male to male that would have originally gone into this which then went
into this huh got a mess here but I think I've got it figured out first of all this tapered fitting ruined the inlet to the for jet so now we have to use this tapered fitting normally something like this would have went right in there I carry these sticks in my toolbox my truck so then the challenge was how do we get from that to something usable and I think if I use this old adapter I'll just put that over there and put that back on this this one fits into here like so and that'll
come off and then we're back to 3/8 stick then I'll come down here and just cut this down here put a little flare on it and we'll be able to put a filter and two little stubs of rubber in there and make it work D do do D D D D [Music] well it's time to throw some fuel in this thing we have a complete fuel system problem is I ain't got a Feliz this is floppy I should have put that cage in there when I had the tank down but I didn't these are junk
but I got something that might work here it's called an Alabama Credit Card right here we stick one end in here to the bottom here shake it there it goes Pump and Gas break the wrist walk away soon as you hear that ball stop bouncing it's empty it's about down to here there's a little bit of a drip happening I mean it's not leaking at all uh the there's a rubber sleeve right here that's a little rotted I guess but everything else is going good apparently I remembered to tighten the drain plug so that's good
well we got about eight gallons of North Dakota gold there thanks to Alabama credit card now we're going to Prime this up again we're going to crank on this thing and hope that we can get it to pull fuel from the tank we might get a little bit of varnish whatever sediment and junk is in that fuel pump and we're hoping the fuel pump actually pumps is the big thing but if we can get this running we're going to let it idle I guess we're going to need some ice cube juice for the water boiler
and uh head gaskets rear man timing cover all the seals the G intake gaskets all that stuff's got to come back around but I would love to just let it sit here and run and idle and feel comfortable and confident about that we might even Jack the back up a little bit test the shift machine and then we got my favorite part brakes I'm procrastinating for the brakes basically let's crank it here we go come on now we don't need full Thunder just just some lightning speaking of lightning we need a lightning Cube I knew
that I was just you know hopefully the Sao Mart still has juice or whatever that thing is fin a lot of good parts in the ground out here there we goish come on okay all right I think that's the longest it's ran now boy it's loud is that open manifold what's going on still not pumping any kill uhoh come on upfield goodness [Music] gracious yeah I think the fuel pump diaphragm might be might be shot it is loud but it sounds pretty good the nice thing about the Open Exhaust or whatever is going on here
all the dut gaskets gone is uh we can't hear if it doesn't have oil pressure all the knocking and stuff like that and bottom end being shot and no oil pressure and everything that's great it's a win win let's try it again mobill huh I think we got a bad fuel pump and it is right on the frame and doesn't look fun at all we have an option though I'm going to back fill the fill pump so we'll take this line off and we're going to pour fuel the opposite direction directly into the fuel pump
and we're going to let it sit and what we're hoping is the diaphragm gets some flexibility in it you know about 92% of the time it works 1% of the time come on now let's juice this up all right I'll keep working on this it's going to take a [Music] while well I've tried and tried and tried to bring this pump back around and it's not doing it it is a really tight fit and right down on the front crossmember in there you can't even see it but this is what the pump looks like or
similar so I think I'm going to go ahead and try to replace this first if this doesn't work then we'll put in a clicky clacky and that'll get us home anyway I'm going to have to make some room in here to even get my mitts and arms down going to have to bust the uh cooling lines off that's what we're after down there so awesome let's get after it [Music] well this is pretty bizarre I think I've got a brand new bad fuel pump well I know I do I'm soaked from gasoline had to to
I've lost half a day on this fuel system I'm supposed to been on brakes all day I primed it back fed it did everything it will not Pump Fuel and it's a gusher right at the pump so I got to switch gears very quickly we should be doing brakes should have been doing that 8:00 this morning so I'm going to go get a clicky clacky put that in line and now I got to change my plan of action here I might try to drive this into the shop they're closed on the week on Sunday here
and use the concrete floor cuz I could probably get through the brakes faster and now we're going to be working till 4: in the morning to get the brakes standed time I need light and concrete sweet part store run number 312 clicky clacky some more clamps I don't know we'll see clicky clacker working it's actually improper use that's supposed to be as close to the tank as possible but we're running out of time at this point we're going to have to start thrashing this is the wire that goes to the heater motor which is bad
uh but this is a 12volt switch now so I have the heater fan control on high and uh when I turn the key on Boom 12 volts right there turn the key off off so I'm going to wire this into the clicky clacky clicky clacky sad cable to sad cable boom ghetto ignition whatever good enough we'll zip tie this up here so it drips on the manifold there we go we kind ofish have a fuel system going on uh let me see if I could fire this up I'm just going to jam it in gear
we got to get moving here so I'll fire it see if it's going to idle or try to if not well float the valve slam it drive see if the tires spin might stay on the jack stands probably not okay CLE stuck stuck again why is it doing that uhoh we might have lost our IO Powerhouse or whatever that thing is oh great awesome perfect Grand let's see if I can find a jump box or something probably not okay I'm sure this is been dead for 17 months why would anyone plug it in you know
great here we go well what is going on [Music] now I've never seen such a Mickey Mouse operation what is this trying to tell me no fuel why accelerator pump arm came disconnected why it got stuck in the throttle return spring okay valid point how about now Moses Sandos bot L an eyeball what is going on today I just what is this now meter in the way can't make this stuff pressure in the system lots of it gas my left retina it needed clean though I think I just I need to go get a taco
and just contemplate I think that's what needs to happen now it's saying to us hi what are you saying well I got a stuck needle all this horsing around what is what is I just carburetor is falling apart in my hands and getting fuel ain't getting fuel yep the uh needle is stuck so looks like uh we're taking the fuel make it happen our part again at least all those screws aren't melted in half and I stripped four of them anyway I'm just going to leave it on in the car try to take the top
off see why the needle stuck tried to figure that out I think the hangers on the needles were different than what was originally in the carb also one of the floats has been swapped and it has a different hanger try to figure that out runs great when you fill it through the vents now that we're finally getting fuel to it it's not letting it in the door essentially let's try to figure this out well see what's missing my cheap uh carb rebuild kit this is just disintegrating that's the uh I don't know what you want
to call it gasket or O-ring for the accelerator pump and that's why we didn't have any fuel I thought the uh needle was stuck bowls are full it's just we had no accelerator pump oh great let me see if I can find one off the ground over here oh had a wind come through I got to find the old there it is try to put this one in see if it does something finally doesn't sound the greatest but it's running it's charging yeah it's not running terrible well that's a race Camp here wow well let's
see what happens jaming gear it's either going to stay on the stands or go through the fence one of the two Drive anything happen oh no transmission this is my surprise face let's try reverse oh here we go big reverse oh maybe we Rev on it will that do [Music] something oh it just quits [Music] wow I can't believe this car was parked we go get the drum box again it's on the charger boy it does not run good it's got oil pressure but it doesn't run good a little more air on the air air
fuel [Music] mixture sound better all right let's see what the blood stick says trying to nurse this transmission back it's got juice but it's not doing nothing I don't know if the pump's bad or it's weird cuz it's no reverse no forward all right I got to try to find a funnel how's our restart now pump on it's getting better I'm going to let that run the blow by is getting better that was pretty terrible before going to go try to find a f DP some juice in boy it is getting chilly in the evenings
again it would be incredible if this transmission would start working we could try to get it inside there's a wood stove in there get some heat and then we'll have a break party oh that really hurt remind me I never do that again all right ke gauge works that's coming up okay I got a fun jamm in there we're going to do an old hot rod trick Type S it's rumored you get a crisper shift out of this stuff but who knows this uh this is the early style automatical I drained what was there didn't
look good and now we'll uh put some fresh back in just spill punch on the manifold see what this says to us a lot of people say never change your transmission flu especially on high mileage unit but I always do it we don't really have an option if this doesn't shift we're done we could fight through pretty near everything but no gears not much I can do there wait I just made a weird noise did you hear that I think it's trying to turn it's fogging down too oh F alarm let's keep adding see it
revs up a little bit and park though so that makes me feel like the pump is working might just be a clutch issue but it's weird that fresh fluid but bring it around try it again not some boxs no turn I'm going to let it sit for a few minutes could be seals sticky valves I don't know okay I do know the sun's going down quick got about an hour and 40 minutes be nice to get this inside but we'll see what happens I got updates for some unexplained reason it just started rotating huh I'll
be dead so now it'll be interesting to see what the weight of the car on the ground is it actually going to move the car if the clutches are that bad just going to slip but if it was just SEALS or uhoh don't worry about that I hit the key fob in my pocket shut her down you know but anyway we're making progress well I think it's time I've adjusted the fuel M happer I think it's time to set this thing on the ground and see if it'll actually pull itself and that's it's going to
determine if we keep working on this go through the brakes and everything else that's a good sign tail lights are stuck on or brake lights all right let's get the back down on the ground well it's going to be a long night can a guy get an egg sandwich to levered how does that work okay definitely don't have brakes but we can use drive and neutral try to nurse this thing into the [Music] cop Mobile H sitting here thinking oil that was in here must have had no hydraulic properties left had too much moisture or
something there's really no other explanation okay oh boy how did I how did I do this I just kick him out oh yeah she's in there where's my muffler Hammer here it is Muffler Hammer Muffler hammer hmer Muffler Hammer no one [Music] out Thou shalt not fall ouch oh the paint everything's going hail high oh that was [Music] sketchy this thing's handy might have to put this in the truck nope okay back down on three bad byy splies pretty good band name okay let's see what Drive tells us on the PA oh you know I'm
not an expert but we might need a battery apparently this free one off the ground not good believe it or not [Music] what's going on here now I can't believe this there we go neutral Drive come on yes yes is pretty good what's behind me oh I on that truck Let's Go reverse oh I wish I had a break F I think we can get into the chop with that I just got to close the hood and whatnot oh crisis somewhat adverted still don't know if we have second gear if it's going to slip let's
try to get it in the shop okay we're going to come scooting through swerve around this stuff try to hit this lift throw it neutral and Hope that the other wheel stop stops us or that one otherwise we're taking out a I don't know what's that that's a chevel trunk or something it shall be interesting well this worked out pretty slick I got to be in here anyway for exhaust in uh 6 and 1/2 hours all right I'm bringing it around first time on the road in almost four decades well not road but under its
own power you know what I mean Carl that sand it's not good so far oh for Pete sake I think I've mentioned I need a battery maybe I should put that on the list getting tired getting tired getting tired well what what now well I went to move the car no surprise here it's not pulling fuel anymore after I let it sit and idle forever they're just not designed to do that they're a pusher not a puller so I guess we'll kill this try to fill the bowl and quickly drive it in with fuel in
the bowl it won't work but we'll try it no not running that's weird is one of these 37 batteries laying around here any good that's my question 3 volts that's pretty good 12 superst start of course it's good all right go put a battery in try it again tried to use a forklift it's not stuck the battery's dead charger can't reach it it's weird that's where it was I don't I okay that's dead swap batteries with something else off the floor filled the fuel make it happen here got it to run now I've got another
issue so I can I let off the key it dice so our 12vt ignition source is now shot so I can get it to crank up but the second I let go of the key de this might be why those were TI I don't know if the B resistors cooked or what's going on but now I got to trouble shoot that yeah I don't know but I installed my resistor bypass just clamped them together there going to let that Arc off of the valve cover all right attempt 397 to get this into the shed guess
this can right down here we come on remove it well that was easy wish I had a a fork left this thing runs good oh yeah AOW what a rig so I know this is really going to surprise you but we need to work on the fuel system again I pulled out the clicky clacky up front put a piece of Steel line in for this went now we're going to put this back by the tank where I mentioned previously that's the right place for it to go fire it up again make sure it run runs
from rerunning before it ran and then run runed and then uh 14 hours later approximately we're going to start on brakes pretty good pretty good [Music] [Music] [Music] all right pumps installed in the back waiting for it to catch fuel hopefully we didn't burn it up come on might take a minute okay we got it it was air locked should be good to [Music] go nice boy it is getting late but we got to press on when your back's against the wall you just got to scratch a little harder you know let's get after breaks
it doesn't matter if we start in the front or the back it's all got to be done I think I'll just start in the back I already started juicing up the fittings and stuff got to do a soft line a t and a hard line to each wheel cylinder from the axle at minimum trying to save the hard line that goes to the front because that goes to a distribution block right next to the engine on the crossmember it's hard to get to um wheel cylinder shoes maybe drums not sure we use the uh air
Jack in the back here it's going to be a long night let's get after it see if we be can get done before we fall over [Music] oh yeah [Music] [Music] oh well it is very very late I'm not even sure what time it's probably morning to be honest but we got quite a bit of work done um redid the fuel line cleaned up the frame rail actually ran a new brake line from the front to the rear went ahead and just did that ran the wiring for the fuel pump got that all attached and
everything uh rear rubber soft line for the brakes and got the captain inside rear wheel cylinder shoes all that stuff in new drum all of that's in as well drained the rear diff fluid it had a bunch of water in it I don't have any juice so I pick some up in the morning dropped the oil as well and cleaned up the filter cartridge which is over there on the bench and uh inside and outside went ahead and painted that why not cuz I had sand all the barnacles off of that thing but that's as
far as I'm going to push tonight tomorrow or this morning I think um come back finish up the brakes we got to get a brake master in it do the fronts engine oil rear end oil and uh maybe late afternoon tomorrow we can start heading home that would be that'd be all right I guess okay I'm going to clean up I'll see you guys bright early [Music] today well good morning let SCB my coffee headed to the part store get some uh pure oil you needed something else you can't remember what it was today's going
to be busy just check out out of the motel so we're in it I'll turn them back now uh this shop is always slammed so I feel kind of bad they're going to be working around me although hopefully they're still going to do the exhaust because I can't drive that home open manifold kind of you know after the DeLorean exhaust for 19 days whatever that was I am I like I'm kind of liking quieter stuff got to be honest you know but anyway I'm going to have to work around them we've still got obviously rear
diff oil and knock that stuff out really fast and then get to work on the brakes probably finish the rear up first I also got to run tires to a tire shop today they they'll be open it's going to be a mad house but we'll try to get her done at least get the car back outside maybe go for a test drive on the with all the rigoll whatnot Pony and horse show whatever they call them cat and duck Runway stuff it'll be uh from guessing 2: to 4:00 p.m. see well here's what we got
for tars what are they called ver ver classic something I don't know it was the cheapest I could find on the AOL okay and I think for some reason I'm going to go white wall out we'll see I've got a vision for this car and that might do us right so I'm going to throw two in at a time those guys are in there contemplating over the exhaust we've got studs broken they're they look like a mahogany toothpick from the 1930s it's not good but there is a set of shorty headers here off an engine
run stand uh so if we have to we can maybe flip it over to headers I'm not sure I'm going to let them do the brain power stuff and I'm just going to go get some tires mounted there's a place down here I think to take credit cards or crack all I got a credit card though so guess we'll do that back at the shop we got a fuel leak happened last night started leaking we've had nothing but bad parts well we had bad fuel pump bad bance resistor bad accelerator pump got a bad seal
on this we got some Aviation stuff on there now and it's empty for exhaust I'm going to go ahead and fill the rear up here's something you could do to save some money this stuff's great squeezy bag genius but it's $20 right this one's n squeeze this in put this in this keep going and then you don't have to play that game so I'm going to fill this up quick Donnie's up there working hard uh getting ready to put some exhaust on this thing got to slide the brake line around the factory position isn't going
to work I didn't think about it cuz these normally came with single exhaust well if we're running dual we got to get that up out of the way there so they can snip a pipe through [Music] I got one of those cheesy brake flare tools but they got the nice one so we're going to go ahead and use this this is pretty slick all you got to do is Operation one bam then go operation two bam open this up perfect flare I should have brought mine but I forgot and my hand is busted Chad's got
the front done over here now I can uh get the front lifted star on brakes we got a customer car this morning he's over here are going to redo this exhaust someone put a kit or something on it it's you know goodbye these guys do hot rods all day nice chel 70 this is wild look how much oil has leaked over the years this is inches thick got to get all this cleaned up so I can even get to the fitting here uh this line completely rotted and uh we'll get this off take a look
at the bearings while we're in here do all the brakes something worth mentioning before I forget believe this is a 265 because of the spin-on canister style oil filter tried to convert this to a canister spin on um this one has a big bolt that goes up the center the other one just spins on but it the block isn't provision for it so it won't work uh but that's I think worth noting I think that's an easy way to tell 265 vers 283 is the oil filter other than obviously the internals [Music] yeah might be
might be bad the uh bottom ball joint's also bad but we're going to pretend I didn't see that either [Music] n [Music] here's the worst Two Shoes one there was nothing left literally just stuck to the drum and this one was just rotted all the way through sitting just hard on these rigs Chad's just about done with the exhaust the nicest thing on the car now decided to go true duels nice and old school glass packs look at those bends got to learn how to do that nice double wall stainless tips so once we get
that back down um I can go and put the m cylinder in put the engine oil in before I forget top off the coolant I'll have these guys help me bleed the brakes we'll just do it the old school away while I got help and uh see if what we got going on how many leaks is the question uh but now we have all new line 100% new brakes literally other than the spring hardware and then we oh we got to put fuel back in it because we drained that to fix the leaking o-ring and
then I guess it's test drive time but we're getting late late into the afternoon again I was hoping to be on the road right now I estimated this morning didn't happen but that's okay I'm excited to uh roll it off hit the brake pedal have brakes toodle it around a little bit here soon fan sent me these lights Chad's helping what are they called I don't even know what these are United Pacific but they have a GM uh adapter Ro so the driver's built in pretty slick and Donnie crawled under the dash and bent the
tab or did something in there he said give me a vice grip now they work and I had lenses show up from the part store look at that brand new 1957 taillight lenses a right and a left so we should have uh brake lights I think they got the running lights on right yeah no blinkers or anything but that's okay and uh I am working on the brake master cylinder currently we're going to have to figure out how to go from this fitting ouch that's really hot cuz it just had a torch on it for
a while to a 3/16 and the new one doesn't have a front Inlet it has a side or a bottom so that's going to get a little interesting so normally a guy bench bleeds these just right in the rig and skip a step instead of having to do this and then take it off and put it in the car but we're going to go ahead and do it this way because I got to get the line installed and then work it to the firewall just using this cheap little brake bleeder kit has a bottle couple
connectors you guys have seen me use it a thousand times I just carry them in the toolbx so now we'll just pour some juice in here I'll work the piston on the master cylinder just like you were pumping a brake pedal essentially until we don't see any bubbles in this clear plastic tube and that means we've got rid of all of the air in the brake master cylinder and then we'll get it in the car now I got to find something to to push this with there's got to be a hanger something here we go
there yeah perfect heavy duty Muffler hanger oh see those bubbles we want to get rid of all those bows and essentially when you're bleeding your brakes say you're cracking a back master cylinder this is what the inside of your steel line Looks like you just can't see it oh yeah I hear the the guys running self tappers in the front headlight over there so that's a good sign well our parts lock continues on the 57 I don't know if it's cursed or what's going on but every new part we've tried to put on the thing
has been bad and so is this master cylinder the seal on the Piston is shot I've uh been spraying brake cleaner and using a rag just to verify but if I push this piston in and let it come out it brings brake fluid with it and that is not supposed to be happening so this would bleed off and leak through the back side and uh we'd eventually lose pressure thankfully I bought a second one because I didn't know what the setup was going to be so we'll throw this other no name thing in and see
what uh this one does oh it sounds so much better look at these are lead lights can't even tell we got some headlights there's a heat r that leaks a little bit I told him not to worry about it cuz it was frozen to the manifold and it would be a pretty big job so we'll worry about that some other time really good news Donnie's up there pumping and you know my favorite sound after you do a breake job is when all of a sudden it goes and then you have no brakes yeah the one
line I forgot about didn't replace that's impossible to get to and goes from master cylinder all the way around the front of the engine which is hidden underneath of this cover and in front of the radiator that goes over to a t block that's now impossible to get with the nice exhaust that was just installed on the frame rail over there that I already spent 5 hours getting the line off for the back that one so I don't know if we're leaving here pretty quick this might take a while let me look at it it
uh that's trans cooler and I saw it spraying way up there I got to figure out where it is I think it's right here I don't know okay so that line goes to this Junction block which goes from the master cylinder to here splits and grabs this wheel then goes qu inch across up I got to get this out of the way eventually it's the old right oh there it's out of the way now over to there but instead of trying to take the pan off and everything like that I think we're just going to
bing bang Zing boom bang call that pretty gooded all right oh yeah the shoes are doing something over here lots of there yep go ahead [Music] we might want to let it sit for a minute it's foamy I think we erated the crap out of it [Music] yeah oh no one sec go ahead well it is late at night car is running uh guys stayed after work we've been having a lot of fun just hanging out and just uh farting around having fun climbing over the car fixed a bunch of little things topped off the
uh radiator it is leaking we put some K seal in it fixed the kick down pressure rod for the transmission robbed one off of a uh we needed the little piece that spins onto the rod that has a hole for a c cter key Rob one off a 64 C10 back there um what else do we work on oh I got uh carb a little bit more dialed got the return spring fixed so it doesn't fly off I don't know let's go for a little cruise and uh see how it drives see all the brakes
are barely moves so that's good paper lock stay for [Music] lock okay test drive complete it quit well I made it about 7 ft which was pretty equal to last night uh new issue we're seeing uh when I was sitting here idling and we were just letting it come back around which by the way it doesn't have blow by anymore it's running pretty good but we noticed that the fuel filter was completely empty which means it's vapor locking so now we've got to figure out what we're going to do there with that situation um typically
the heat is built up before the pump that's not the case here because we're using a pusher uh the fuel pressure is Dead ending in the carb there is no return which is not helping so once that fuel gets hot enough to boil and Vapor eyes it obviously just can't run on that so maybe rerouting it maybe running steel line from under all the way up cuz we have a chunk of rubber now running around the manifold and up over cuz we tried to use a mechanical pump that was bad out of the box I'm
not really sure the headliner bows are still in here that's pretty incredible so anyway we're going to hang out take a look at it see what we can come up with so one of the ways ways you can kind of figure out where you're creating the heat Source or where it's hottest in your fuel lines just use one of these little heat gun things you know 78 that doesn't seem right anyway uh we track this around and it's hottest right after the filter post filter before the carb which also makes sense because the fuel doesn't
have anywhere to go so once the dead ends all the heat starts building up there we're going to wrap it with some heat shrink try to insulate it and see if it's Ingress or egress a heat and if that doesn't work uh we're going to run a little bit more we'll lift the car and use this and go down the fuel line to the back towards the pump and see if it's getting hot back there um or anywhere else back back um probably the proper fix will be putting a mechanical fuel pump in but that
is not fun on this rig I already went through that fight and can we even get one at this point definitely not tonight it's Zero Dark 30 so well we think we fixed the fuel issue rerouted a fuel line back over there again using the temp gun we found the heat Source was down by the heat Riser move that around but now we have to use a meter car shut off couldn't get fired again the coil has failed and that's because I I believe I was uh bypassing the external ballast resistor because that failed new
out of the box so we're going part shopping again out in the yard more stuff off of my C10 truck I've got an old well handful of old trucks here I just haven't gotten around to yet and they've been a great resource for parts let's see what we can find what a night we uh we've been through multiple Parts coils Bast resistors you name it we keep having a really crazy intermittent sparkage issue and uh this one's out of my Impala and so is that but anyway we came down to this started noticing this we've
got a really worn out really worn out severely high mileage points distributor so we're going to deal with that tomorrow it's very very late got our discoed for tonight I guess we're not going to hit the highway tonight but tomorrow is another day so tomorrow bright and early we'll be yanking all the ignition back out of this car we'll put in some other used junk hope that that works I've got two or three laying around here Chad might also have one at his house is known good that might be an option I'll horse trade him
something for it I might take him out for a 9 oz sirine or something trade for that and uh but we've made huge progress yet again today tomorrow might be the day we stick it on the highway see you tomorrow well good morning bright and early back on it look what I got this is uh out of a parts car but it's not all worn out it doesn't have a bunch of play in the shaft or anything like that so I'm going to wire wheel this clean it up uh put new points in it check
the cap or the rotor put the new cap in the other one on this yank that one out stab this one in you know the process I'll update you when I get this uh looking better well guys got it cleaned up good as I can oiled it uh put some grease on the cam in there replace those parts set the points made sure the Springs are working on the mechanical side this is the old stuff that came out of it you can see those are sulfured up pretty good so we'll toss this away we'll get
that one out quick Jam this in and by golly I think we'll have her whipped nope something else will break hey by the way take the radiator uh it's still a little wet but it's rebuilding currently it might take longer okay so old new new old new to me old L junk here distributor in you lightning verer reuse the cap and rotor new points dusted batter's hot we'll fire it up and then we will throw a timing light on it and uh we're going to let this run again we never confirmed we fixed our uh
fuel Vapor issue because we started having ignition issues so here we go 1 15° it seems to like that nugget we'll see what it is e [Music] little [Music] bar it's about 35° seems to like it now hook the vacuum advance up turn it off Crank It Up fires right away we're good all right it's back it's alive I'm going to let it idle here and uh get back up the temperature actually try to get it as hot as I can see if we have that vapor lock issue again mean willst I got to clean
up I got stuff everywhere around here guys got her outside idling it's Smoky today this one side actually it's starting to clear up I was just revving on it I think we got to put some buman down the Yeah clean it up a little bit we're going to let this idle while I go clean my mess back at the shop transmission lines puking so we're going to fix it by using this used transmission cooler which I believe might have come out of Independence I'm pretty sure got to jam this on the front show you something
like this snake some Hardware in there bolt down there we'll run some fresh lines through this hole which is already there back to the transmission that'll help keep that cool also the cooler then hides the radiator leak so you can't really see it that good see what leak so I don't know we're hitting two cows with one bumper or whatever so here's the two cooling lines up there I got them disconnected got new copper clad these won't rot you see and uh just bent similarish old line pressure trick you just Kink these off make them
barely flow and then she'll shift hard it's hot rod stuff so basically going to run that through here sneak it up through there made a little pocket right here bam Mar is your uncle okay operation performance cooler executed it's actually really Stout even got some rubber washers on there whatnot what through there all hooked up drained the transmission again and overfilled it by 12 quarts and then drained eight of those out and it's probably good I haven't checked it again but it's shifting so great now we're going to uh put new rings in it and
we're going to do that with an italon tuneup in the old vitamin B12 over there it's smoking on this side and what I'm going to do is basically float the valves and force it to chew on this over here and I'll bet you it's going to come out of it I think it's just got sticky oil rings there's a very thin ring a wavy ring and then another thin ring and those get gummy and sticky and if they're not scraping the oil it pulls it up in and burns it I think that's what's happening or
we've got valve seals going out unfortunately which is likely I mean it's been sitting for a very very long time but let's give this a shot now hopefully come off take theer out [Music] [Music] w for [Music] [Music] tune let's go look now ah still smoking not as bad though little Improvement well we are finally ready to hit the road they even uh dug out a door handle in the trunk nice nice hopefully we have drive and not to slow brakes are great of course seems to be doing it yes shift shift there it went
oh I was getting really nervous there we've got Drive speedometer is working 35 110 40 120 70 wow this is a Sprucey unit drives kind of straightish brakes are actually pretty impressive of course every single thing is new now except the two short little uh steel lines from those t's to the rubber line in the front all right we're going to take the back roads take our time enjoy it this car it's only going to want to go 5560 typically it's a beautiful day it's windy but the sun's out and we're at a 57 Chevrolet
and here's something that's uh kind of in a secret I didn't want to say anything until this point truth to be told this is actually a parts car I bought this car as a parts car for another 57 that I bought months and months ago you guys will see that here pretty soon and this had such beautiful stainless and a lot of extra cards obviously I wanted to pick this one up and then I thought maybe we can get it running so this has been off the road for 37 years as a parts car we've
got it on the highway right now quite honestly I don't care if we make it all the way home this is this is pretty awesome let's stop get some fuel and then we'll Jam this thing on some backs [Music] a [Music] well I believe I just lost brand new wheel bearings oh boy pulling over here to check it out now I got to the other side of the road but I'm Vapor locked come on stuck in a turning lane come on we should probably we get some dinner kind of what I'm thinking go around well
I think the brake hardware came apart and the new wheel bearings which you know everything new we' put on this car has been junk or one or the other oh boy can't make this up and a Riley delivery driver just swung over and asked if I needed help he's going to help me push it around the corner here into this gas station so at least I'm out of the traffic and then we should find an egg sandwich or something now dinner time then we'll figure it out there he goes his name is Cody helped push
appreciate it very much I don't think we're out of fuel no we are not so Vapor locked or the pump went out and on top of that chunk about it cool for a while sputtering along the prim is terrible sounds bad though but I needs a chew on Sal oh boy very not good I left my jack and jack stands in my truck so that's not good we'll try to figure something out brake master cylinder just blew out see all that wetness on the floor yeah it's shot back seal is leaking all the fluids just
going right there same thing the other one was doing I'll think I'm in a town called the rmle bunch of bees and elves let's got it so to recap the second brand new master cylinder out of the box has failed I've got no brakes and the brand new wheel bearings and Brake Hardware have failed on the left front add that to the list of failed fuel pump gasket ballast resistor accelerator pump fuel pump and some other stuff none of these parts came from O'Reilly by the way so I'm going to do the right thing and
go eat I'm we'll figure it out if you're going to get a cheeseburger throw some jell penos on it okay so here's the deal called every single part store in town no one has the bearings it was actually a company called volunteer bearing that does nothing but bearings they're 20 minutes from here they couldn't locate up either luckily O'Reilly has it at their distribution scer sorry about the W uh commercial driver is bringing that to this store of town so we're going to try to nurse the car to the O'Reilly in this town I guess
I'm going to have to buy a Jack and blow this thing apart try to have it ready for these bearings to show up try to fix everything got a master Cinder coming as well should be our third and maybe we'll get home like late tonight early to R oh it sounds so bad first thing you can do is drive on Blown wheel bearings or whatever's going on up there but we ain't got a choice hopefully it doesn't take the spindle [Laughter] out okay we're posted up got me a [Music] Jack and uh some wheel bearing
grease I think that's all I need at the second we're going to tear into this thing see how bad the damage is that a nice guy he's got a 57 I popped the trunk we made some deals on some extra stainless that I had above and beyond what's on this car and made my money back so we're doing okay we're doing okay I jack this thing up no jacks down will this be careful trying and save some panties here get this tire off get the hub off or the drum off and then we'll see how
bad it is well that's all it's left the bearings it got so hot as that was failing melted all the rubber everything and unfortunately I got the spindle but the good news is see the outside here that's where the race still somehow existed old school style the thickness saved it I think so where the race sits here and the race sits back here pretty unscathed so I think a new bearing might fit but I do have a lip here that's stuck on that so I'm gonna have to do some hand filing try to clean this
spindle up these got smoke from heat these got smoked from heat everything got you know nothing's tight anymore the pins got stretched everything was so hot but we might be able to patch this up not quite sure yet we got to look further seals obviously shot on this I got to go in and get some punches and some Hammers and see if we can even wow look at that Groove that's from this so not failed it was walking his way around that Hub is smoked H what a mess we get some tools and see if
this Hub is savable if I can save this piece some bearings think going to help us so Wendy I jumped in the car so y'all can hear me okay so uh you know Vehicles will talk to you you just got to read scan the peepers and stuff I don't know why I got in the passenger side so here's here's what I think happened looking at what we have left on the front there after catastrophic failure and um I'm not upset at all you got to think I've done we're in the thousands of cars at this
point I've done this thing get it running drive it home I've only lost wheel bearings three or four times and one of them was a chevel that I built in two days and drove all on Power Tour and I don't even think I checked the bearings this one's just odd because they were new but nearest I could tell the outside wheel bearing was fairly intact it still had the plastic retainer erase in it although melty the inside all of the bearings were gone and based on the spindle track marks you could tell that the tire
came in meaning the inside bearing went out I think that wheel seal that old velvet style wheel seal failed the inside wheel bearing went all of the grease ejected and boiled out and that's what trashed everything that's when the excessive heat came into play the Rubber boots on the wheel cylinder are melted it takes about 200° C and uh for those using Fahrenheit that's about 394 de to melt exceptionally hot I mean it took engine paint off the drum I then believe the chain reaction was the brake fluid in that wheel cylinder superheated heat rises
it found its way into the master cylinder and warped or melted the O-ring on the piston and the master cylinder and that's what started that leak all because of one bad wheel bearing so I just like to try to understand what happened before going forward it's like you have to understand the past to figure out the future you know what I mean so anyway we should have wheel bearings coming up here pretty soon uh big thank you to O'Reilly the folks here have been fantastic um we've been chitchatting having a good time and uh kind
of on busy street here but we're making her happen uh get these wheel bearings in I got two sets coming just in case cuz that this rate we're going to have to put wheel bearings in again before we get back home so M well have another set the brake master cylinder is coming back around so I think as the temperature is now going away maybe we can limp home and what we have it does have low gear for Pete's sake so so keep that in mind um I might try to play some Kino or something
or some poker roll some dye while I'm waiting you know and uh I don't know that's all we that's where we're at waiting game we're waiting okay bye well the guy's still waiting on Baron so I'm passing some time we'll go ahead throw a terminal in here this thing is wrecked and I'm going to go ahead and extend this wire this is our temp sender wire and get that hooked up so we can see what temperature this side have to right bearing showed up great news okay so now that I have a race which is
inside part here I can actually start measuring and shaping this I've been widling for quite a while U all this extra material is what is left in the balls I got smelted down essentially and ran over top and um I could do it with hand files but it' probably take honestly 3 or 4 hours Joe stopped by earlier from Complete Auto he's down the road so I gave him a call and he's on the way with a drill or something to try to sand or something um he didn't have an a die grind and a
flat disc but anything robotic right now we'll speed this up cuz this is a lot of material to take off but just a file but we're getting there slowly it's been fun got the baronss in Joe saved us with the drill windy got a bunch of folks out here hanging out watching turning the drum clop that on adjust some shoes again uh I'm going to look at the brake master yep that'll make it let's hit the road I'd like to get home tonight it's been a while okay we are back on the road drum turned
out nice yeah got the Waller out of her met a bunch of great people we had like 30 40 people here at one point that was fun I guess uh news spread quick through this little town here uh it's cooled down enough now maybe we'll vapor lock again that would be nice uh brake pedal is pretty much on the floor but they only slow you down got the headlights going again the high low dim switch is kind of finicky you just got to keep stomping on it but we are back on the road as I
say that i' almost quit h that's fine let's see if we can get back tonight yet hopefully no more breakdown s front's nice and [Laughter] quiet everything is good we're cruising in a 57 sh Parts bar what could go wrong it's not shifting still not shifting still not shifting still not still not shifting there it shied why could go WR [Music] well I'm sitting in the darkness here um coming through this town I think it's called Tahoma something like that never been here I don't think anyway had a bunch of traffic lights I think it
Vapor locked again so I'm going to have to sit here for half hour 45 minutes let this thing cool down and we'll try it again it is running very very rough I believe uh I'm down one or two cylinders I believe I've burned some lightning hoses really not much I can do about it right now might try to limp at home like this I don't have any other wires with me hindsight being 46 I should have thrown some in from the old kit but I was in a rush you know how that goes oh finally
we got fuel back okay let's uh hit the road again [Music] finding any mice well very late last night the 57 Chevy CLA its way back into the driveway of Vice garage albe it running extremely poor it made it 37 years off the road and we were able to put this parts car back on the road that's pretty awesome there was some parts there got really sketchy last night it started pouring rain about the last 40 miles two lane roads one lane roads and then it was Pitch Black no cell phone service and the guy
can't help but think this is it this is when finally someone's going to call me about my car warranty and not be able to reach me that' been pretty awesome now this car was cankerous stubborn devil but it ain't never met a guy like me tell you that much it did fight us something fierce but now I'm really torn it's clearly more than a parts car do we keep going do we keep putting time and some pieces into this make it a pretty nice little driver and then send it on down the road for someone
else to enjoy and finish how they want to do it or do we hang on to it for now just in case because keep in mind I have that other 57 we need to go pick up and it might need some do dabs and whatnots I don't know you guys bleep bloop it down there in the comments for me hey do me a favor check if you're subscribed if you're not it's free there's no obligation just hit the Subscribe button hit that little bell you'll get notifications of free videos like this go up every single
