who is the best football player to never win a trophy that's a harder question than it sounds and it involves all sorts of players from all sorts of different eras so in no particular order here is a list who left the sport with plenty of individual recognition but without ever having lifted a major team [Music] trophy Harry Kane is an obvious place to start he's captained his country to World Cups and European championships he's won golden boots and player of the season awards and he's even appeared in a Champions League final in 2019 but he
is still yet to capture that Maiden title Kane himself has stacks of individual Awards he was included in the Premier League's team of the season six times and is tottenham's all-time record goal scorer when he moved to the Bundesliga and Bayern Munich in 2023 he even became the most expensive player in the history of German football and Kane of course still has time to leave this list while the chance for international honors is now dwindling he and Bayern will surely contend in the Bundesliga before much longer but Kane might not even be the greatest English
player never to win anything fulham's Johnny Haynes who once finished third in the Balon door voting and has his own statue outside fulham's Craven Cottage was actually the first British based player to be paid 00 per week but in a career spanning the 1950s and 60s he never won a trophy nor did Tom finny he spent almost his entire career at Preston and was unquestionably one of the finest Wingers in the history of British football he was a two-time footballer of the year in England but he never acquired the winners medal metal collection to go
with that status and he retired in 1963 and there are others too not of the same status but whose Talent took them to good careers and never medals Matthew latier was a one-man club with Southampton always remaining loyal and for a period in the 1990s made the goal of the Season award practically his own he never won anything though and nor did Stan colore who is one of the most gifted players of his generation playing for livero Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest among others so what about other countries you might remember jeppie Yori the diminutive
Lazio forward with a Siege gun of a left foot and an unorthodox two-step penalty taking technique was one of the deadliest Strikers in Italy in the 1990s and was a three-time top scorer in Sera a but while he did win League titles at lower levels of the game he never actually won a major competition nor did another famous Italian forward Antonio di Natali the closest he came was in 2012 when Italy reached the final of that Year's European Championship they were thumped by Spain though and dinal who is actually Italian footballer of the year in
2010 never got over the line during a career spent mainly between empy and Udi hoen Guerrero's career with atletic B bow came at the perfect time he broke through in the early 1990s when the game was becoming mainstream and his boyish good looks and elegant dribbling made him a natural Star right foot left foot from distance and from open play and set pieces too Guero could score all sorts of goals and do almost anything except win trophies he was a true one club man spending his entire career between 1992 and 2006 with Athletic Club but
at a time when not just Real Madrid and later Barcelona would control Spanish football but when Valencia and deportivo Laruna were mightier Powers he and athletic never broke through until very recently the bundesliga's Byer lusen were nicknamed visen or nusen on account of their many near misses at the turn of the Millennium and while some of their players went on to win trophies elsewhere like Michael balak and Lucio the Brazilian Defender one who didn't was Yer basturk the Turkish attacking midfielder Bash was a sensational player a playmaker and a schemer for a team that went
to a Champions League final in 2002 were Runners up in the Bundesliga in 200 and 2002 and beaten finalists in The dfb pockle the German cup in the same year Bashur also played for stutgart her to Berlin and briefly Blackburn Rovers during his career but never won a trophy of any kind and finally dispelling the urban myths and assumptions around International Football it's always assumed that Socrates the legendary Brazilian midfielder simply must have won a World Cup at some point but that's not true Socrates did win League titles in domestic Brazilian League football with Corinthians
but he never won a thing with Brazil his 60 caps were won after the great 1970s era and before the team's Resurgence in the 1990s he never played in the World Cup final and the closest he came to an international trophy was a 3-1 defeat to Uruguay in the final of the 1983 CPP America Socrates was included in World soccer's list of the 100 greatest players in history and was South America's footballer of the year in 1983 but he was never a continental or world champion and nor was Johan C who won everything there was
to win in club football and captured League titles in the Netherlands and Spain but was never able to lead the Dutch to Glory Quan ran Rael and Argentina never made it to the Winner's Podium norded Raul and Spain and perhaps unbelievably given the length of his career norded Paulo Maldini and Italy he played for his country for 14 years he won 126 caps but he lost the 1994 World Cup Final on penalties and the €2,000 final to David trees's Golden Goal if you like this video please consider subscribing to the channel the athletic is home
