four most terrible sexual sins in the Bible what you need to know number one adultery a lot of people believe that all sins are the same but is this what the Bible says are there some sins that are truly terrible and Despicable with God let us begin with adultery and move forward with even more terrible sins a type of sin that doesn't just affect or spiritual lives but can also break up families harm communities and hurt Generations are you ready to face the truth stay with us until the end because what you hear today could
change your life the word adultery is related to the word adulterate which means to make something worse by adding another substance adultery is the act of spoiling a marriage by bringing in a third person it means having a sexual relationship with someone who is not your husband or wife adultery a single word with a power to tear lives apart it's a path many people think they'll never take yet find themselves drawn toward but long before the Heartbreak pain and broken families the Bible warned us clearly and powerfully why is this warning so strong what did
God want want us to understand about the dangers of adultery the Bible story of marriage begins with Adam and Eve one man one woman United by God in a lifelong bond this was God's perfect plan for marriage but it didn't take long for sin to complicate things marriage was meant to be strong and Lasting yet something happened along the way sin crept in blurring the L of what's right and wrong the Bible's seventh commandment doesn't waste words you shall not commit adultery Exodus 20:4 it was a warning a warning that would prove to be critical
for all of humanity But as time went on people found ways to bend God's words polygamy for example became a way to bring more than one person into a marriage in the Old Testament God allowed polygamy but he never endorsed it even though these additional wives were legally recognized they complicated God's original design for marriage God's command was clear yet people kept finding loopholes it's the same today many people think they can avoid God's command without consequence but can they another way people tried to sidestep God's command was through adult adultery and remarriage if a
man had an affair he was committing adultery but what if he committed adultery divorced his wife then married The Other Woman in most places today this is considered ordinary but does it truly Escape God's standard Jesus himself spoke directly to this situation saying Luke 16: 18 whoever divorces his wife wife and marries another commits adultery and he who marries one who is divorced from her husband commits adultery Jesus didn't stop there in fact he went even deeper warning us that adultery doesn't just happen in the body it starts in the heart he said you have
heard that it was said You shall not commit adultery but I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adult with her in his heart Matthew 5: 27-28 in other words Jesus warned us that the battle against sin begins in our hearts adultery isn't just a physical act it starts with our thoughts and desires the Bible doesn't hold back when it comes to describing the consequences of adultery in Proverbs chap 6 Solomon gives us a warning saying can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned Proverbs
6: 27 he's telling us that adultery is dangerous like playing with fire the Bible uses strong imagery here for a reason adultery is not just a mistake it's a path that leads to pain and regret why does God take adultery so seriously because marriage isn't just the social C contract it's a covenant a holy promise made before God breaking This Promise isn't just hurting the other person it dishonors God himself in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 Paul gives us another warning flee from sexual immorality whoever sins sexually sins against their own body First Corinthians 6:8 adultery
affects our soul our relationship with God and our future but here's the amazing part even though adultery is serious God's grace is bigger than any sin in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 Paul also writes do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God do not be deceived neither the sexually immoral nor idolators nor adulterers will inherit the kingdom of God and that is what some of you were but you were washed you were Sanctified you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of our God 1
Corinthians 6: 9-1 notice Paul's words and that is what some of you were he's speaking to people who once lived in sin but found forgiveness even if you've made mistakes even if you feel burdened by guilt There's Hope if you or someone you know is struggling remember that God's grace is always there he calls us back to him no matter how far we wandered however there is a sin that may yet be worse number two laying with creatures and beasts the Bible mentions laying with creatures and beast in four different passages Exodus 22: 19 says
whoever lies with an animal must be put to death Leviticus 18:23 declares you shall not have intimate relations with any animal to be defiled with it nor shall a woman stand before an animal to M with it it is a perversion Leviticus 20: 15-16 commands if a man has intimate relations with an animal he shall most certainly be put to death their blood is on them Deuteronomy 27: 211 agrees cursed is he who is intimate with any animal these verses make it very clear that according to the Bible terrible unnatural and evil sin why is
being with animals and creatures condemned so strongly first it is a twisted misuse of God's design it's obvious that humans were created to be with other humans not with animals in the story of creation no animal was suitable for Adam Genesis 2: 20 second being with animals and creatures shows the worst kind of sexual sin being with animals and creatures lowers humans to the level of animals creatures that can't tell right from wrong natural from unnatural love from lust being with animals and creatures is clearly included in the Bible's many teachings against sexual immorality Galatians
5: 19 now the practices of the sinful nature are clearly evident they are sexual immorality impurity sensuality total irresponsibility lack of self-control Colossians 3:5 so put to death and deprive of power the evil longings of your Earthly body with its sensual self-centered instincts immorality impurity sinful passion evil desire and greed which is a kind of idolatry because it replaces your Devotion to God number three prostitution prostitution is often called the oldest profession this means that it has been around for a very long time in fact people have used it as a way to earn money
since Bible times the Bible teaches us that prostitution is wrong Proverbs 23: 27-28 for a prostitute is a deep pit and an immoral woman is a narrow well she lurks and lies in weight like a robber who waits for prey and she increases the faithless among men God forbids involvement with prostitutes because he knows such involvement is detrimental to both men and women for the Lips of an immoral woman drip honey like a honeycomb and Her speech is smoother than oil but in the end she is bitter like the ex extract of wormwood sharp as
a two-edged sword her feet go down to death her steps take hold of Shel the Nether world the place of the Dead Proverbs 5: 3-5 prostitution doesn't just hurt marriages families and lives it also damages the spirit and soul in a way that brings physical and spiritual death God wants us to stay pure and use our bodies as tools for his work and Glory do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness but offer yourselves to God in a decisive act as those alive raised from the dead to a
new life and your members all of your abilities Sanctified set apart as instruments of righteousness yielded to God these individuals are not outside of God's forgiveness the Bible shows us a story about a prostitute named Rahab God used her to help bring his plan forward because Rahab obeyed God she and her family were saved and blessed in the New Testament a woman who was known for her sinful life came to Jesus she had been forgiven by Jesus and was freed from her sins when Jesus was at the house of a Pharisee this woman saw an
opportunity to serve him she brought a bottle of expensive perfume knowing who Jesus truly was she cried with regret and poured the perfume on jesus' feet wiping it with her hair when the Pharisees looked down on Jesus for accepting her act of love he corrected them and accepted her worship because she had Faith Jesus forgave all her sins and she was welcomed into into his kingdom when Jesus spoke to people who didn't believe the truth about him he said I tell you the truth the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God
ahead of you for John came to you to show you the way of righteousness and you did not believe him but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did and even after you saw this you did not repent and believe him Matthew CH 21: 31-32 just like anyone else prostitutes can receive salvation and eternal life from God they can be cleaned of all their sins and be given a brand new life all they have to do is turn away from their sinful life and turn to the Living God who is full of grace and mercy therefore
if anyone is in Christ he is a New Creation the old has gone the new has come 2 Corinthians 5:1 17 number four fornication is a word used in the Bible to talk about any wrong or impure sexual activity that happens outside of marriage fornication can also stand for the sins of idolatry and apostasy which means turning away from God or worshiping other gods instead the word fornication comes from the Greek word pornea and is often connected to adultery in the Bible fornication is a general word for sensual sin fornication includes adultery which is when
a married person has sexual relations with someone who is not their husband or wife but fornication also includes any kind of lustful activity between people who are not married for example in the King James version of 1 Corinthians 5:1 the word fornication is used twice to talk about a sin that the church was allowing a man was having relations with his father's wife in Romans 1: 29 the Apostle Paul lists terrible sins including fornication which means all kinds of sensual sins Jesus also talks about the sin and a list of things that come from a
person's heart and make them unclean he says for from the heart come evil thoughts murder adultery all sexual immorality fornication theft lying and slander Matthew 15: 19 fornication goes against the seventh commandment Exodus 20:4 which was meant to protect the family and marriage God made sex to be enjoyed within marriage which he designed to be a special and honored Union the Bible tells husbands and wives to stay faithful to each other or face God's judgment it says marriage is to be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled because God will judge the sexually
immoral and adulterers Hebrews chapter 13:4 the Bible consistently condemns sexual immorality those who keep on committing fornication won't inherit the Kingdom of Heaven First Corinthians 6:9 avoiding fornication was one of the four requirements the early church asked of Gentile Believers the Jerusalem conference told them abstain from Meats offered to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication from which if you keep yourselves ye shall do well the Bible urges Believers to flee from all kinds of sexual sin including fornication it says let there be no sexual immorality impurity or greed among you
such sins have no place among God's people in 1 Corinthians 6:18 Paul teaches that sensual sin is unique because it's a sin against one's own own body he links this to the teaching in earlier verses that Believers are members of the body of Christ when a Believer is involved in sexual sin it goes against their one flesh Unity with Christ our bodies are not our own to do with as we wish because we belong to the Lord fornication goes against who we are now as members of Jesus Christ's body Paul explains that a Christian's body
is the Temple of the Holy Spirit a sacred place that belongs to Jesus we have been saved by God for good works not for sin Ephesians 2:1 in both the Old and New Testaments the Bible uses fornication as a picture of God's people turning away from him both Israel and the church are seen as God's wife or the bride of Christ when God's people worship idols or are unfaithful to him he calls this sin fornication Revelation 2:14 but I have a few things against you because you have there some among you who are holding to
the corrupt teaching of balam who taught Balo to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel enticing them to eat things that had been sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of sexual immorality the word of God speaks to the depths of our sensual desire the truth of God's unwavering standard of Holiness calls our moral failings into question the Bible contains words of wisdom and instruction that encourage us to trust God for Liberation from worldly desire flee immorality 1 Corinthians 6: 12 through 13 everything is permissible for me but not all things are beneficial
everything is permissible for me but I will not be enslaved by anything and brought under its power allowing it to control me food is for the stomach and the stomach for food but God will do away with both of them the body is not intended for sexual immorality but for the Lord and the Lord is for the body to save sanctify and raise it again because of the sacrifice of the Cross Paul says foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods but God will destroy both it and them this means that the human stomach
has been so constructed that it can receive and digest foods and yet we should not live for food because they are only of temporary value they should not be given an undue place in the believer's life don't live as if the most significant thing in life is to gratify your appetites although God wonderfully designs the body for the reception and assimilation of food there is one certain thing the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord and the Lord for the body God never intended for the human body to be used for vile
or impure purposes when he created it rather he intended for it to be used for the Lord's glory and blessed service this verse contains something incredible that should not be overlooked not only is the body for the Lord but the thought that the Lord is for the body is even more wonderful this means that the Lord is concerned about our bodies their well-being and proper use God desires that our bodies be presented to him as a Living Sacrifice that is Holy and accept acceptable Romans 12:1 therefore I urge you brothers and sisters by the mercies
of God to present your bodies dedicating all of yourselves set apart as a Living Sacrifice holy and well pleasing to God which is your rational logical intelligent act of worship the fact that the Lord is for the body is additionally explained in this verse God has not only raised up the Lord Jesus from among the dead but he will also raise us up by his power his interest in her body does not end at the time of death he will raise the body of every believer to fashionate like the Glorious body of the Lord Jesus
we will not be disembodied Spirits in eternity instead our spirit and soul will be reunited with our glorified body thus in joing the glories of Heaven forever 1 Corinthians 6:1 15 do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ am I therefore to take the members of Christ and make them part of a prostitute certainly not to further highlight the necessity for personal Purity in our lives and guarding our bodies against impurity Paul reminds us that our bodies are members of Christ every believer is a member of the body of Christ is it
proper then to take the members of Christ and make the members of a harlot to ask the question is to answer it as Paul does with an indignant certainly not 1 Corinthians 6:1 16 do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her for he says the two shall be one flesh two bodies become one in the act of sexual Union we are told this at the dawn of creation Genesis 2:4 for this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be joined to
his wife and they shall become one flesh as a result if a Believer is joined to a harlot it is the same as making a member of Christ a member of a harlot the two would merge into one body 1 Corinthians 6:1 17 but the one who is United and joined to the Lord is one spirit with him just as in the physical act there is a union of two into one so when a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ and is joined to him the believer and Christ become so United that they can
subsequently be spoken of as one spirit this is the most perfect merging of two persons that is possible it is the closest type of a union therefore Paul's argument is that those who were thus joined to the Lord should never tolerate any Union that would conflict with this spiritual wedlock as a result the Apostle cautions the Corinthians to avoid sexual immorality they are not to experiment with it or play with it they're supposed to flee a beautiful Bible illustration of this can be found in Joseph's story when he was tempted to sin by Piper's wife
while there may be safety in numbers sometimes there is more safety in flight then Paul adds every sin that a man does is outside the body but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body most sins have no direct effect on one's body but sexual immorality is unique because it directly affects one's body a person reaps the consequences of this sin in his own body while it is true that gluttony and drunkenness affect the person's body most sins do not and not even overc consumption or drunkenness affects the body as directly as much
or as destructively as immorality sex outside marriage inevitably end irresistibly Works havoc on the offender many Christians imagine that the Christian life would be much smoother if only we could recover the conditions of a previous era it is assumed that if we could only return to those times all would be well people forget of course that the Church of New Testament times had problems too when we turn to Paul's letters to the Corinthians we find a church with problems that threaten to wreck its life and Ministry no church founded by Paul had more problems than
the one at Corinth but let us be thankful to God that as a result of their difficulties we have these two marvelous letters the problems were undoubtedly severe they had immorality of the worst kind a man living in sin with his mother or possibly his stepmother a practice that even pagans would have condemned some of them had been drunk at the Lord's table furthermore they had misunderstood basic Christian doctrine it must have been tempting to write off such a church but Paul did not he wrote to them and visited them in the hope that they
would see their errors and return to a better way of life 1 Corinthians 6: 19 do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you whom you have received received as a gift from God and that you are not your own property Paul reminds the Corinthians once more that they have a holy and dignified calling had they forgotten that their bodies were the holy spirit's Temple the solemn truth of scripture is that every believer is indwell by the Holy Spirit how could we ever consider using a body
in which the Holy Spirit resides for evil purposes 1 Corinthians 6: 20 you were bought with a price you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made his own so then honor and glorify God With Your Body by both creation and Redemption we are the Lords his claim to us dates back to Calvary we were purchased at a cost we see the price that the Lord Jesus placed on us at the cross he thought we were so valuable that he was willing to pay for us with his own precious blood how much
Jesus had to love us to Bear our sins in his body on the cross as a result I can no longer think of my body as mine if I take it and use it the way I want I am acting as a thief taking what does not belong to me me rather I must use my body to glorify God the one who owns it a popular bible commentator exclaimed head think of him whose brow was Thorn Girt hands toil for him whose hands were nailed to the cross feet speed to do his behests whose feet
were pierced body of mine be his Temple whose body was rung with pains unspeakable we should also glorify God in our spirit since both material and immaterial parts of man are Gods the Bible also warns us in 1 Corinthians 10: 12-13 therefore let the one who thinks he stands firm immune to Temptation being overconfident and self-righteous take care that he does not fall into sin and condemnation no temptation regardless of its source has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to Human Experience nor is any Temptation unusual or Beyond human resistance but God is
faithful to his word he is compassionate and trustworthy and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability to resist but long with with the Temptation he has in the past and is now and will always provide the way out as well so that you will be able to endure it without yielding and will overcome Temptation with joy they serve as a warning to the Arrogant let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall perhaps this refers specifically to the firm believer who believes he can indulge in self-gratification without being affected by
it such a person is especially vulnerable to God's disciplinary hand Temptation operates like rocks in a harbor When the tide is low everybody sees the risk and evades it however Satan's strategy in temptation is to raise the tide and to cover the dangers of Temptation then he likes to bash you upon the concealed rocks then Paul adds a beautiful word of encouragement for those tempted he teaches that the tests trials and temptations we Face are Universal however God is faithful and will not put us through more than we can handle he does not promise to
Deliver Us from Temptation or testing but he does promise to limit the severity of such experiences he also promises to provide a means of Escape so that we can bear it reading this verse one cannot help but be struck by the tremendous Comfort it has afforded to tested saints of God through the centuries Paul would reassure them that God would not allow any unbearable temptation to come their way at the same time they should be cautioned not to expose themselves to Temptation whatever happens act in a way that is worthy of the gospel of Christ
Philippians 1: 27 only be sure to lead your lives in a manner that will be worthy of the gospel of Christ so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit and one Purpose with one mind striving side by side as if in combat for the faith of the Gospel but test things carefully so you can recognize what is good hold firmly to that which is good abstain from every form of evil withdraw and keep away from it now may the
God of Peace himself sanctify you through and through that is separate you from profane and vulgar things make you pure and whole and undamaged consecrated to him set apart for his purpose and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete and be found blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ 1 Thessalonians 5: 21-23 all of our parts need to be preserved entirely that is complete and sound we need to preserve ourselves from everything that would hinder the testimony of the Holy Spirit to the Saints relationship with God we also need need
to preserve the body from defilement and evil uses
