Don't become a victim of yourself. It's possible to become a victim of tragedy. It's possible to become a victim of gossip. It's possible to become a victim of the things that happen out there. But here's the most important thing: Don't become a victim of yourself. Forget the thief in the alley that's after your purse. What about the thief in your mind that's after your promise? The thief in your mind that says you're too short. The thief in your mind that says you're too tall. The thief in your mind that says, well, yes, it'll happen to people out in California, but it can't happen way over here on this side of the world. I'm asking you to conquer that thief, even though you find him in your own consciousness. I want to reassure you that you can do it. I want you to reassure you that you can make the decisions. I want to reassure you that no matter what the night, no matter what the storm, no matter what the difficulty, there isn't anybody here that can't figure it out, find some things to do. Step at a time. Yes. Minute at a time. Yes. Day at a time. Yes. Week at a time. Yes. But there isn't anything you can't walk away from. There isn't any challenge you can't overcome. I want you to have that kind of belief in yourself. After the long summer, that we've been faithful, we've been disciplined, then, as one writer said of ancient script, in due time, your harvest will come. And I want to give you that promise today, one more time. Your day will come. Your harvest is sure. It'll be there for you. And then you'll be able to say by gosh, the hard work has paid off. The lonely nights have paid off. Working hard every day has paid off and my harvest has finally come. Sure, there's doubts on the outside. People doubt that America's gonna make it. People doubt that Europe's gonna make it. People doubt that Russia's gonna make it, the Poland's gonna make it, the Czechoslovakia's gonna make it. They doubt the whole world is gonna make it. But I'm asking you not to pick up all those doubts. I'm asking you to have some faith, have some courage, believe. Drive your doubts into a small corner. Don't let them loose like a mad dog, drive you into a small corner. Don't doubt the future. Don't doubt the possibilities. Don't doubt the extraordinary gifts that your distributors bring to your organization. Don't doubt that. And here's the most important one of all: Don't doubt yourself if I've got miracle working power to change my life, so do you. If I've got the ability to change, so do you. If I've got the ability to read, so do you. If I can discover, so can you. If I can grow, you can grow. If I can develop, you can develop. If I can get an invitation like I got 6 years ago, help take something around the world, so can you. If I can stand on this platform, Idaho farm boy raised in obscurity, so can you. If the millionaire team can do it, President's team can do it, walk off with the diamonds, the trophy, so can you. I'm asking you don't sell yourself short. You say, well, what can I do about the upcoming winters in my life, the challenges that I know I'm gonna face? Here's what you can do: You can get wiser and stronger and better. Just make a list of that trio of words: wiser, stronger and better. Go home smarter than your came. Go home with more ideas than you came with. Get stronger. You can develop the muscle. You can develop the courage muscle. You can develop the inspiration muscle. You can develop the dedication muscle. You can get stronger. There isn't anybody here that can't get stronger. Next time we see you, may not even recognize you how strong you're gonna be able to become in language and style and personality, The ability to cope, the ability to handle with any thing that happens no matter what happens. And the third one is get better. We can all get better. I've gotten better. First talk I gave, I stood up, my mind sat back down. But here's the secret to my success: I stood up and did it again. I stood up and I did it again. And I did it again, and I did it again all those many years ago. I did it when I was scared. And I did it when I didn't want do, and I did it when I was ill. And I did it when it didn't work well and I did it when they didn't appreciate it. And I did it a lot of times when I didn't know much what I was doing, I just did it anyway. And now, all these years later, I'm asked to walk on this stage with the greatest introduction I've ever had, greatest response and welcome I've ever had, The greatest opportunity I've ever had to touch this many lives with a mixture of words and heart and soul. I got better. I got better day by day, and week by week, and month by month. And I'm asking you to do the same thing until you can develop a long arm and a long reach, until you can develop influence that won't quit, touch people next year, you couldn't touch this year. Touch people now you couldn't touch before. Conduct a meeting now you couldn't conduct before. Heart and soul now mixed in there that wasn't there, missing before. I'm asking all of you to get better in spite of the winters, in spite of the downturn, the money downturn, the social downturn, the personal downturn, whatever it is. Just get stronger. Get better Doubt's like a plague. And one of the worst is self-doubt. There are many, but that's one of the worst. The guy doubts himself. Doubts if it'll last that long for him, doubts if he can do that well. Doubts if he can make that much, doubts if he can accomplish all that. A chronic, excellent self-doubter. You can imagine what damage that does to your future. So here's the key: Turn this coin over and become a believer. And there's many things to believe in, one of the majors is yourself. The understanding of self-worth is the beginning of progress. We all have a certain amount of doubt. Nobody can be one hundred percent certain. But here's what you must learn to do: Doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs. I used to be mixed up on that all those years ago. I used to believe my doubts and doubt my beliefs. And what a sad position that to be in! Learn to doubt your doubt and believe your belief. It's easy to doubt the future with uncertainty. It's easy to doubt the past, will serve you. It's easy to doubt the community, It's easy to doubt the country, doubt the government, doubt the bank, doubt the money. It's easy to doubt each other. And here's the worst one of all: It's easy to doubt yourself. Doubt that you can learn, doubt that you can grow, doubt that you can change. But I'm asking you to turn that around. Drive your doubts into a small corner, don't let them conquer you. Believe in each other, believe in your country, believe in the community. Believe in the rest of the world and their ability to struggle with the problems and come up with the answers. Believe that things are possible. And here's the most important one: Believe in yourself. Do not doubt your own ability, don't doubt your ability to change, don't doubt your ability to grow. Don't doubt your ability to take command, don't doubt your ability to learn all the skill. Whatever you want, I'm telling you, it's all possible. Make this note. None of us lack the capacity. None of us lack the capacity. We have far more capacity than we have time to take advantage of. I do read a record where it says, all that time ago, some people lived to be 700 years, 800 years, 900 years old. I feel a little shortchanged when I only had the chance, maybe to live 70, 80, 90, a 100 years, when all that time ago, the record says some lived to be 700, 800, 900 years. It seems like it would take seven or eight or nine hundred years to tap the full extent of our capacity, let alone 70, 80, 90, a 100 years. But here's what I'm asking you to do, get busy. You've got more brain power than you've used so far. You've got more potential than you've used so far. You've got more strength than you've possibly used so far. No telling how many languages you can learn. No telling how far you can go. No telling how strong you can get until you get busy working on yourself and see if you can tap all of your full potential. I found that the biggest enemy you have to deal with is yourself. There's an old African proverb that says, “If there's no enemy within the enemy outside can do us no harm.” Look at your life, look at where you wanna go. Don't worry about your circumstances, don't worry about your age. I have a friend who's up in age over 70. And she wanted to build a multi-million dollar complex. Her name is Dr. Johnnie Coleman. Lenders and bankers say, you can't do that, you're too old. She ignored them. That building now stands, ladies and gentlemen, a multimillion dollar structure. But there are a lot of people who would have listened to that. There are a lot of people that would not have even gotten to that point, they would have talked themselves out of even going down to the bank to ask for it because they've already said no to themselves. See it's time now, if you wanna make this your decade, you've got to start saying yes to your life. You've got to start saying yes to your dreams, yes to your unfolding future, yes to your potential. As opposed to saying no. See 87% of our self talk is negative. So you've got to make a conscious, deliberate, determined effort to say yes to your dreams. Why not? Why not me? Don't spend time like most people going through life complaining. You've got to learn to let the past go so you can grow. Many people never act on their dreams because they allow their past experiences To determine what their possibilities are. Whatever you've done in the past, that's not a reflection of your possibilities. That's just a reflection of your consciousness, that's just a reflection of your development and your growth. The future is unfolding for you right now. The future is unlimited for you right now. No one knows where you can go. No one knows what you are capable of or what's possible for you. We have the power to change our personal history, changing the direction of our lives, changing our thoughts, changing where we wanna go, exploring new horizons. So as you begin to look at this decade and affirming that this is your decade, as you set goals that will make you stretch, that will bring out the best in you, as you begin to remove the negative, toxic people from your life, as you decide to take some chances in life. And that's one of the things that's very important. Viscott said, if you're not willing to risk, you cannot grow. And if you cannot grow, you cannot become your best. And if you cannot become your best, you cannot be happy. And if you can't be happy, then what else is there? The ideal situation for a man or woman to die is to have family members standing around their bed, praying with them as they cross over. But imagine, if you will, being on your deathbed and standing around your bed, the dreams given to you by life, the idea's that you never acted on, the talents, the gifts, the abilities that you never used. And there they are, standing around your bed looking at you with large, angry eyes saying, we came to you and only you could have given us life and now we must die with you forever. And the question is, if you died this very moment, what will die with you? What dreams, what ideas, what talents, what leadership potential, what greatness that you showed up to bring, that you allowed fear or procrastination to hold you back. When you don't have a true appreciation and acceptance for who you are and you allow yourself to be immobilized by fear, what happens in the process is that you begin to abuse yourself. You begin to sabotage your life, you begin to sabotage your dreams. You begin to unconsciously work against yourself. You become your own worst enemy. So what do you do about that? Well, you begin to realize that your dream and your gifts have so much meaning and so much value for you till your hunger for them will begin to push you past the fear. Your hunger to have them will give you a special drive. And the majority of the fears that we have are not life or death fears. They are not those kind of fears. But through our imagination, we blow them out of proportion and we give them more power than they actually have or deserve, and we permit them to govern our lives. We permit them to determine how far we can stretch out on our dreams and discovering our stuff. As you assess yourself and begin to approve yourself and just say, wait, hold on a minute, hold a minute, I've been sweating this out. What's the worst thing that can happen to me on this? Will it kill me? Will I die? Why am I going through all of these changes over this? How much power does this really have? And am I the one that's feeding the power into it? See, a lot of times we allow ourselves to be fed and to be programed into being afraid. I mean, you watch the news and read the newspaper, you'll be scared to come out of the house. You'll be afraid. So what kinds of things, what kinds of thoughts are you feeding your consciousness? What kind of things are you putting in your mind that will enable you to either move forward or to justify why you are staying where you are? The next thing is, it is important, In the area of motivating yourself, it's important to know why you're doing it. Because that mind will say, Why bother? Why go through all this? This is too hard. No. Throw in the towel, it's not worth it. Has that ever said that to you before? Here's how you can handle that. Here's how you override that. Write down five reasons why you deserve it. Why do you deserve what you want? Why you? Why do you deserve it? What meaning and value will it bring to your life? What's so different about you that you deserve your goal or this goal? And when you write down those five reasons when you have some down moments and you're going to have them, When that conversation start talking to you and it's going to talk to you, what you will do is you can pull that out and read it and it will build you up. It will be your rod and your staff to comfort you through some challenging moments. Because you're gonna have some. Life will knock you between the eyes. It will catch you on the blindside, come out of nowhere, stuff you can't anticipate, that will knock the wind out of you. You wanna give up. That's why it's important for you to work on yourself, listening to tapes, building yourself up, talking to yourself, with power feeling and conviction, building yourself up day in and day out because it's coming. What are some of the self-defeating behaviors that we become involved in that prevent most people from enjoying themselves? Some people develop the what's-the-use attitude. Why bother? Some people have the I-really-don't-care. And they convince themselves that they don't care and they don't feel anything. And after a while, they really don't feel anything. Their lives are empty. Some people say, well, it's really not worth the hassle, just too hard. A lot of people don't ever do the things they're capable of doing because they allow themselves to go along with the crowd, following the crowd. Many people have things they wanna do and they find themselves in relationships with people who are addicted to mediocrity, and they allow their behavior to influence their behavior. Many people don't do it because of the fact that they allow their lack of self confidence to immobilize them. I remember when I wanted to go into business for years, that was an agonizing thought in my mind. I wouldn't try because I didn't believe that I could make it. Of the 5 things that you would like to do if you have the courage to do, I want you to pick one thing. Pick one, and here's how to set it up for yourself that will help free you and get you unstuck. What is the worst thing that can happen if you do it? What's the worst thing that can happen? Let's say going into business for yourself or changing careers or getting a divorce, taking some kind of chance at something that you've always thought about doing, but you just haven't done it for whatever reason. What's the worst thing that can happen. Do the worst case scenario. Now, when you do the worst case scenario, you write those things down, the worst things that you fear would happen. When you name your fears, that puts you in control. What are you afraid of? Name it, write it out so you can look at it. Confront that fear. Now that takes you to the next step. What are the benefits? What are the benefits of your acting courageously, taking life on? What are the benefits of your acting courageously? Whatever it is that you've identified write the benefits down and then focus on them, focus on the benefits. Not on the liabilities. Not on your fears. Focus on the benefits. That which you hold in consciousness tends to manifest itself. Think about how good you’ll feel. Think about the level increase, self-respect, the sense of self-worth that you’ll feel. How good you’ll feel getting up in the morning, looking yourself in the mirror because you're taking life on. The other thing is acknowledge your fears and then go into action. This book, it's called 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway'. That's it. See, I believe anybody who has ever done anything, who's ever taken chance doesn't mean that they are not afraid. Courageous does not mean the absence of fear. I think that being courageous is willing to do it because that's what you feel and you're gonna do it anyhow. Regardless, you're not gonna be immobilized by your fears or your doubts. You admit, okay, I am scared to death, now okay, what is it that I must choose to do? Go ahead and experience that fear but don’t let that fear immobilize you. And what you've done with your life thus far is it giving you what you want? Is it giving you what you want, when you look toward the future, when you look at all this going on out here? Is there some place within yourself, you say, “Hey, I know I need to be out there in that arena”? “I know I can do more than what I've been doing.” “I know there's some great music that I have within me that I haven't brought out here yet.” Is that something that you begin to look at within yourself? See, I say, if you look at your life and if you're not getting what you want, you owe it to yourself to do something differently. If you own a job, 85%, they say, of Americans go to jobs that they're unhappy. If you're doing something 8 hours a day that you don't like, it's not giving you what you want, It's not giving you a strong feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment. You're miserable, you hate to go there. You're depressed just thinking about it. You sing the “Thank God, it's Friday” song every week. It's giving you headaches just thinking about it on Sunday afternoon after the football game goes off. If that's what it is, you owe it to yourself to start strategically working to change directions. See, but you know what most people will do? Most people will resist change. Most people will fight change as if change would be worse than what they're experiencing. Once you begin to discover who you are, then you really realize how you have been given authority and dominion over everything on the face of the Earth, including all the dimensions of your life. But you can only do that through the struggle of life. And most people avoid the struggle. Most people go through life, avoiding pain. And when you go through life like that, something in you dies. Something in you that you never activate is lying dormant in there, that you never get a chance to call on because you have not challenged yourself. Somebody said the land of familiarity belongs to the dead. That most people like to feel like they're king in the area of their comfort zone. They only wanna do those things that they know how to do well. Osborn said, unless you attempt to do something beyond that which you've already mastered, you will never grow. So if you wanna begin to grow, you've got to put something out here, that you can't reach easily, that has gotta make you stretch, gotta make you jump for it, gotta make you get back a little bit and dig in so that you can take a leap forward. And maybe you jump up there and you miss it and you skin your knees. And you come back again and you bust your lip next time. But you keep on and through that process, you learn how to leap higher. You start challenging yourself to dig deeper and then you discover some things about you that you don't know right now. Some talents that you have in you that you didn't know that you can do. I started out just talking to kids, and now I'm speaking at corporations. Now I'm traveling. I didn't know I can do this, but had I not given myself a chance. And I'm saying to you, give yourself a chance. Here's something else. If you wanna begin to make your stuff happen for you, I think that it's very important that you start trusting yourself. Listen to yourself. Listen to that still small voice within you. Don't try and make everything logical. There are some things about life that defies logic, that you just can't explain how the outcome is gonna be. That once you begin to trust yourself and your ideas and your instincts, life takes on a whole new meaning, because now I want you to do that feeling that you are led. Just feel I am led. You don't need anybody to approve your dream. It was given to you, If they can't see it, it's because it wasn't given to them. It was given to you. Hold it, nourish it, cultivate it, work on it. It's yours, it's your baby. Work on it until it comes into fruition. I want you to ponder these four questions. Here's the first one and that's why. Why pay the price, why work this hard? Why go this far, why try to learn this much? Why try to do it all, why try to see it all, why try to have it all? Why do it, why learn it, why study, why put yourself out, why try to take on this much responsibility? Why develop yourself to the full? Why try to become all that you can possibly become? Why try to earn as much as you can earn, share as much as you can share, develop every skill you possibly can, see every human you possibly can? Go to every class you possibly can, touch everybody you possibly can? Why do that much, why go that far, why share that much? Why give that much away? Why try to see everything, why try to do everything? Why try to become everything? That's a good question, why. And you're the only one personally that can answer that question for yourself. You've got to have your own list of why's. Work on your list of why's. One of the big thrust for success is to come up with a strong enough why. If the why is powerful, the how is easy. But if the why isn't strong, if your goals aren't powerful, if the vision isn't clear the old prophet said without a vision we die, without a vision we perish, without a dream we're nothing. I'm asking you to sit down with your family And develop a dream strategy. I'm asking you to make a list of what you want, what kind of health do you want, what kind of skills do you want, what kind of income do you want, what kind of gifts do you wish to bestow, what kind of power would you like to have, what kind of influence would you like to have. I am asking you to go home and work on the why, spend some time as you fly over the clouds and over the ocean, back to where you came from. I'm asking you to have a vision By the time you've reached home of why. Why you want this kind of income, why you want this kind of recognition and these kinds of skills? I'm asking you to develop your own list of why. Now, here's number two. The first question to ponder when you go home is why. Here's another good answer to why it's the second question, Why not? Why not see how much you can earn, why not see how much you can learn, why not see how many skills you can develop, Why not see what kind of person you can become, why not see what kind of influence you can have, why not see how many people you can rescue from oblivion, why not see how many people you can reach? I want you to establish some of your goals. I want you to give thoughtful consideration to your goals and why not? If we've got good health for many why not the rest? If it's happened for you, why not others and why not you? I want you to take that personal. Why not, why not? You've got to stay here till you go. I mean, what else are you gonna do? Why not see how much you can do, how far you can go? Now, here's number three, why not you? I wish I could say that to each of you individually, but it would take a couple of lifetimes to sit down and talk with each of you individually. But I would rather do that I'd love to spend a couple of days with each of you personally and pour out my heart, my soul, what's going on in my head, what's going on with me. See if we could connect and find something valuable but time doesn't permit for us to Have those intimate conversations, get to know each other that well. So I've got to do it from up here, but I want you to take it personal. And my personal question to you is why not you? You've got the brains, you can make decisions, you can study the plan, you can change your life, you can grow immensely in the next few years, you can make your dreams come true, you can build a financial wall around your family where nothing can get through. You can become healthy, you can become powerful. Why not you? And now here's my last question. My very last question on the questions to ponder is why not now?
