every day 150,000 people die around the world you and I will also be part of this statistic someday but what really happens at the moment of our death what really is your final destination some believe we go to heaven others think we go to hell others believe we first pass through purgatory and some believe we simply fall into a deep sleep but what is the truth well let's see what the Bible says but wait before we continue make sure to subscribe to our Channel and activate the notification Bell so you don't miss any videos like
this and much more that we have prepared for you and now let's see what the scriptures say about where we go when we die the first thing you need to know is that in our Christian faith we should not fear death instead we should contemplate it with joy aware that by leaving this imperfect world we will Unite with Christ in Paradise where pain tears and sorrow will be non existent Paul expresses this clearly in Philippians 1: 21 for to me to live is Christ and to die is gain moreover in 2 Corinthians 5:8 it states
yes we are of good courage and would prefer to be absent from the body and present with the Lord our true residence is not this transient and fallible world but we belong to the Lord and this is a hope we Embrace with enthusiasm let's examine what happens at at the moment of our death there is a perspective among some faithful that proposes that upon dying we fall into a deep and prolonged unconscious sleep waiting for the second coming of Christ this idea is known as the doctrine of Soul sleep however it is not a widely
accepted Doctrine and was mainly promoted during the Reformation by the anabaptists and by the cites in England during the 19th century on the other hand some Believers in Catholic Christianity uphold the belief in purgatory According to which the soul first goes to this place to be purified of its sins before ascending to Heaven thus some faithful maintain that at the moment of our death the soul immediately unites with Christ while our body is laid in the earth resting in the Tomb until the second coming of Christ at that moment our body will be returned to
us so what happens with a resurrected body it is eternal surely God will create new heavens and a new Earth and there we will dwell with him eternally as for non-believers there are various opinions some maintain that their final destination will be hell where they will suffer eternally others believe they will simply cease to exist while some argue they will experience temporary suffering for their sins before ceasing to exist definitively this last belief is known as the doctrine of annihilationism which posits that God will ultimately annihilate ate them bringing their existence to a total cease
however what is the reality of these claims the truth can only be discovered through a comprehensive and balanced study of the scriptures not through the interpretation of an isolated verse first let's examine the concept of purgatory what do the scriptures really reveal about purgatory indeed there is no mention of purgatory in the Bible so the question arises how did the Roman Catholic Church originate the doctrine of purgatory if it is not based on the scriptures mainly this belief arose from two sources first as an ecclesiastical tradition and second through interpretations of non-canonical texts known as
the apocryphal books for example in 2 mccabes 12: 42-4 it is reported how Judas macabus the commander of the Jewish forces organized a collection of 2,000 drmas per person to send to Jerusalem as an offering for sin by proceeding in this way Judas macabus acted with great honor and righteousness considering the hope of the Resurrection if he had not believed in the resurrection of those who had died it would have been pointless and illogical to pray for the dead however his view was set on the Magnificent reward intended for those who rest in devotion his
gesture was motivated by Deep reverence and piety thus he performed the atonement for the deceased so that they might be absolved from their sins in second macbes we observe that they advise praying for the dead and offering sacrifices for their sins to achieve forgiveness this approach contrasts with the teachings of the Bible it is important to recognize that the apocryphal texts do not possess the same Authority as the Bible are not part of the biblical Cannon and should not be considered as definitive sources of Truth or doctrine the Roman Catholic Church upholds the doctrine of
purgatory based on traditions and interpretations of passages from these apocryphal texts but it is necessary to bear in mind that such teachings are not found in the Bible indicating that they do not represent a Biblical truth indeed this belief directly opposes biblical teachings if one accepts the idea of purgatory it is implicitly suggested that the Redemption Jesus Christ achieved on the cross dying for our sins was not complete it would be claiming that Christ's atonement is not sufficient on its own in second mccabes we see that Judas makes offerings for the dead to expiate their
sins which conflicts with the biblical teachings that state only Christ performed a total atonement for us and for the whole world in 1 John 2:1 it states my little children these things I write to you so that you may not sin and if anyone sins we have an advocate with the father Jesus Christ the righteous he is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also for the whole world the doctrine of purgatory suggests that we must complement the Redemptive work of Jesus Christ an idea that is extremely Incorrect and contrary to
what the scriptures establish Jesus Christ has already paid in full the price for our Salvation a truth found throughout the Bible and culminating with his own words it is finished in the Gospel of John 19:28 it is narrated after this Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished that the scripture might be fulfilled said I thirst at that moment they offered him a sponge soaked in vinegar placed on a hisp stalk which they brought to his mouth after taking the vinegar Jesus said it is finished and bowing his head he gave up his Spirit therefore
the claims supporting the existence of purgatory directly contradict biblical teachings regarding the validity of the doctrine known as Soul sleep which posits that upon dying one enters a state of unconsciousness until the second coming of Jesus Christ although this Doctrine is not widely accepted it was promoted by some during the Reformation particularly by the anabaptists and the cians in the 19th century even today many adhere to this belief at that time John Calvin was a Critic of this perspective however the key question is whether this belief has biblical foundations indeed there are multiple passages that
use the metaphor of sleep to describe death specifically death can be referred to as sleeping these passages include first Thessalonians 4:13 1 Thessalonians 5:10 1 Corinthians 15: 6 1820 and 51 acts 7:60 acts 13:36 John 11:1 Matthew 9:4 and Matthew 27:52 there are several verses that seem to indicate that the dead do not possess Consciousness as mentioned in Psalms chapter 6:5 Psalms 115:17 Ecclesiastes 9:1 and also in Isaiah 38: 19 however when the Bible describes death using the metaphor of sleep it does so to illustrate that for Christians death is merely a temporary State similar
to sleep for those who uphold the theory of Soul sleep I ask you to consider this for a moment and pay attention let's examine more closely PSAL PM 115:17 which I just mentioned as supposed evidence of this Theory the verse States the dead do not praise the Lord nor do any who go down into silence here it appears to refer to the concept of Soul sleep but it is crucial not to interpret a single verse in isolation let's continue with the study of the following verse Verse 18 which states but we will bless the Lord
from this time forth and forever more this text does not suggest that we should go through a prolonged period of unconsciousness after death before being with the Lord instead it affirms continuous praise now let's examine another passage that is often mentioned in relation to Soul sleep in John chapter 11:1 where Jesus explains after saying these things he said to them our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep but I go to awaken him in this passage Jesus does not state that Lazarus is Soul was sleeping nor is there another biblical verse that suggests that Souls remain unconscious
he simply used the expression that Lazarus had fallen asleep thus when the disciples took his words literally thinking that Lazarus was merely resting Jesus clarified by saying no he is not sleeping but has died the disciples responded Lord if he sleeps he will recover however Jesus was referring to his death and later informed them explicitly Lazarus has died the other texts that are mentioned as proof of Soul sleep follow a similar pattern the use of sleep in reference to death is purely metaphorical in the scriptures our physical bodies will remain on Earth and turn to
dust while our souls will be in communion with Jesus Christ according to Genesis 3: 19 we are reminded with the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the the ground for out of it you were taken for you are dust and to dust you shall return however the scriptures also reveal that our humble Earthly bodies will be transformed to be like Jesus at the time of the Resurrection in Philippians 3:2 it states but our citizenship is in heaven and from it we await a savior the Lord Jesus Christ who will
transform our lowly body to be like his glorious Body by the power that en Ables him even to subject all things to himself at his second coming God will transform our Earthly bodies into Eternal spiritual bodies enabled to live forever alongside Jesus Christ so what happens when we die if we do not believe in purgatory or the state of Soul sleep the Bible provides Clarity on this topic through various verses let's start with a significant one in the Gospel of Luke 23:43 Jesus States truly I say to you today you will be with me in
Paradise here Jesus specifies today indicating that the union with him in Paradise is immediate without going through Purgatory or a period of Soul sleep thus upon dying Believers in spirit unite directly with Christ Paul also addresses this topic in Philippians 1: 23 I am hardpressed between the two my desire is to depart and be with Christ for that is far better clearly Paul does not anticipate an interval of purgatory or Soul sleep his hope is immediate Union with Christ similarly in 2 Corinthians 5:8 he reaffirms this conviction by saying yes we are of good courage
and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord these texts underline that for believers death is a direct step into the presence of Christ therefore upon death the Soul and Spirit separate from the physical body do not remain inactive in the Tomb nor are found in purgatory but are present with the Lord in heaven this truth is reinforced in the Bible specifically in Hebrews 12:22 which describes but you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the Living God the heavenly Jerusalem and to innumerable angels in festal
gathering and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven and to God the judge of all and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect thus it is clear that upon leaving this world the faithful are taken to a place of glory and eternal communion with God this passage addresses the faithful already in heaven and by reading the entire chapter one can appreciate that worship of God transcends mere divine presence extending to the company of angels and the spirits of the righteous already perfected this constit Utes a vast multitude of witnesses and
at the beginning of the chapter it is already mentioned in verse one therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us this passage highlights Heavenly communion and the inspiration that Believers should derive from it revealing that Celestial beings are aware of Earthly events and rejoice with each conversion to Christ as mentioned in Luke 15:10 in the same way I tell you there is rejoicing in the presence of
the angels of God over one sinner who repents think of the joy that each conversion arouses among the Angels remember that our stay in this world is temporary we are not meant to remain here indefinitely consider the words of Steven at his martyrdom reported in Acts 7:55 but he full of the Holy Spirit gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God and said look I see Heaven open and the son of man standing at the right hand of God this testimony reinforces our understanding of a
permanent Heavenly Home contrasting with the transients of our Earthly life with a loud outcry they covered their ears and unanimously rushed upon Steven dragging him out of the city to Stone him as this was happening the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul during the stoning Steven Cried Out Lord Jesus receive my spirit and kneeling down he cried out with a loud voice Lord do not hold this sin against them after these words Steven died this powerful message highlights Steven's conviction who filled with the Holy Spirit entrusted his Spirit
to Jesus Christ while his body remained on Earth describing Steven as asleep The Narrative suggests a temporary rest of the body given that his Spirit was already with Christ thus while his Spirit United with Christ his body lay at rest awaiting the future Resurrection when Jesus will return to revitalize our bodies transforming them into Eternal and spiritual bodies akin to that of Jesus with whom we will dwell in the new Heaven and new earth Earth this is also clarified by examining 1 Thessalonians 5: 9-10 which teaches us for God did not appoint us to suffer
wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ he died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live together with him being awake or asleep does not imply a disconnection from him the Sleep metaphor indeed refers to death as explained in the scriptures each person lives only once on Earth after which comes judgment as exposed in Hebrews 9: 27 just as people are destined to die once and after that to face judgment as Believers after our death our promise is to be in the presence of Christ for those who
reject recognizing Jesus Christ as their lord and savior they will face a fate of Perpetual punishment It is believed that they will first wait in a transitional Place Hades where they will await their final Resurrection judgment and eternal condemnation Jesus Illustrated what happens after death through the parable of Lazarus in The Gospel According to Luke 16: 22-23 the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side the rich man also died and was buried in Hades where he was in torment he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side
this indicates that while the body of the rich man was buried his soul experienced immediate torment in Hades later the final judgment is carried out as described in Revelation 20: 11-15 then I saw a great white throne and him who was Seated on it from his presence Earth and Sky fled away and no place was found for them and I saw the dead Great and Small standing Before the Throne and books were opened another book was opened which is The Book of Life the dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in
the books the sea gave up the dead that were in it and death and Hades gave up the Dead who were in them and each person was judged according to what they had done then death and Hades were thrown into the Lake of Fire this is the second death the Lake of Fire anyone whose name was not found written in the Book of Life was thrown into the Lake of Fire in Revelation 21: 1 and following a hopeful vision is described then I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth for the first Heaven and
the first Earth had passed away and there was no longer any sea I saw the holy city the New Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying now the dwelling of God is with men and he will live with them they will be his people and God himself will be with them and be their God what a spectacle that will be I am eager to witness and live that moment as a Believer you are clear about what
your Eternal Destiny will be and we await it with joy however we cannot help feeling sorrow for those who are still lost those who refuse to accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior that is why we must seize every moment to spread the gospel and reveal F the truth with the goal of saving these Souls since time is precious every day 150,000 people die and Jesus is the only way to Salvation Jesus himself stated in John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father except through me
and in John 3:18 we are reminded whoever believes in him is not condemned but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only son time is urgent and Jesus is the only way I am convinced of my salvation I know for sure and you are you sure of your salvation if the answer is no it is crucial that you find this certainty and if you are already a Believer but your faith is passive it is time to activate it Jesus did not call us to
be mere Spectators or to live comfortably doing nothing he called us to be active disciples and make disciples you are the light of the world and the time has come to shine brightly and share the gospel so that one day before God you can answer the question about what you did with the talents and Gifts he gave you and can say confidently God I gave it my all I used what you gave me to glorify you I hope you enjoyed the video If this content was valuable to you I ask that you support me with
