your obsession with what is clean and unclean goes farther than God intended and does no good for anybody but yourself we tithe everything so the poor can benefit down to the smallest plants grown in our Gardens and to that I say woe to you Pharisees you tithe mint and Dill and cumin measuring carefully the last Speck while neglecting what is actually important of the law Justice and mercy and faithfulness you blind guides straining out an act while swallowing a camel look at these people what have you done to help them please welcome Jonathan R welcome
back to the channel man I wanted to do this I missed this when it first came out so I wanted to discuss this particular video uh from The View and um man it's it's a pretty decent segment they have to they have to bend the knee essentially to this man and to the show The Chosen if you have not watched it it's on Amazon it is a phenomenal series it sticks very very very very close to the scriptures I mean it is phenomenal man I'm currently watching it and I'm pretty much almost at the last
season at this point I believe this is the last season or the last season that's been produced thus far and um I mean I've been hooked I've been binge watching it when I every time I get a chance this this is the show that I'm watching right now and um I mean it's just phenomenal but you guys got to see this right here because I'm I'm surprised by The View but I'm not as well when you look at everything that transpires like sh subscribe let's get into it I feel like I should bless myself I
feel like doing this I got some water here he's got some water the water if you want I got some water here you were just saying at least you're not a blonde blueeyed Jesus finally yeah I think we've gone a little more authentic to who Jesus might have actually been Jewish yeah yeah that does help that does help so the show for those of you guys and and myself included that you know are currently you know engulfed in the word uh and who has been engulfed in the word everybody knows that Jesus is and was
a Jew everybody knows that but these people are so insufferable that they have to bring race into everything because the message it's not about race it's not about that but let's keep going The Chosen is a historical drama based on the life of Jesus their first three seasons had more than 600 million views and yes and was the most crowdfunded TV series ever clearly you're reaching people yeah you play Jesus do um so is are you finding that people are having a little bit of trouble of separating you from the part just did already did
pres yes but it's a whole different question for him because on a daily basis yeah people people are responding so I'm I'm just curious occasionally the line the line seems a little blurred um so I I I try to gently just remind people that my name is Jonathan and and not actually Jesus can't hear their confession I've had people try I'm like nope nope save it for the priest that's profal fun with that then I got to answer for it later so true true we'll have to atone but it's easy see why viewers have taken
to you as this role Jesus it seems like a pinnacle role we've also seen you in episodes of hit shows like The Good Wife The Mindy Project um and this is a fun fact you used to do voiceover for MTV's Celebrity Death Match okay I did very similar uh to Jesus but those jobs uh weren't actually paying the bills so you considered at some point um kind of giving up on this how did you decide to stay the course well I you know I worked here in New York City after college uh in production I
was a location scout and that was how I made a decent living uh but I had started working MTV celebrity death match was the first acting job I ever had so from that point I always had a a curiosity about like I wonder what this would look like if it went further and fast forward to the housing market collapsing in 2008 I had booked a few other jobs I started booking television and I thought okay well this is an opportunity to see if I can actually make this work so I moved to LA and for
eight years I didn't have the safety of the job that I left in New York different different uh unions and all sorts of uh complications to do the same thing in LA but that's not what I was going to La for so I had to do all these other jobs side jobs I drove ride shair I I uh worked in catering all these things I'd never done before and gotten to the point where I was broke I was out of money I was out of food I was out of even government assistance for food and
the only thing I hadn't done at that point was the thing that was left to do which was to get on my knees and surrender my entire life and my career and everything that I had up to that point over to God because there wasn't anything I realized I could do on my own were you were believer before that yeah yeah I was raised with the Faith from a child but it really wasn't until after that moment um it was about almost 6 years ago now where I just said said Jesus I Surrender myself to
you take care of everything and that day I received this incomprehensible Financial miracle that changed my life and then three months later I booked the chosen wow well my husband and I it's a phenomenal story man phenomenal story and I am surprised that they allowed him to speak like that so frankly you know about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on ABC on the Disney Network I'm surprised that they allowed it to happen but you know I'm thankful I've been saying this on the show like there is a spiritual awakening that is happening you know
not only here in the United States of America but around the world but I'm I'm surprised one I missed this episode but two that they allowed this to happen they are huge fans of the Chosen and it's so interesting because the story's been told so many times there been so many different renderings but this one it it plays like a you know a drama there's sex there's humor there's there's VI it has kind of everything you would want but you stay very true to the original scripture why do you think so many people I mean
600 million views have tuned in why does this resonate with so many people I think you know because of how we really take great pains to make these characters that most people know just from a few lines of scripture or they they see them in stained glass windows or in statues uh we we take them off of those pedestals and make them relatable real life people with marital problems with you know issues of of child birth and the things that we go through today the issues that we go through today so by seeing um essentially
ourselves in these characters like any great TV show you start to identify and then the fact that it's this story that it's The Greatest Story Ever Told now brings it to a whole other level and they're like oh I can relate to Jesus in a way that I never thought I could before it it really is relatable uh one of our crew Zach came to me months ago and said I'm Catholic you got to watch this show about Jesus I was like I know a lot about Jesus and I don't obviously um think there's always
more to learn there's always more to learn and and and what that's you're so profound I I think what was fascinating to me is growing up I always saw the blond hair blueeye Jesus right and now I go to a black Catholic church and Jesus is is brown yeah um and and and I think you it seems that you took such great leave it to Sunny to Circle to conversation right back to race this man is talking about the gospel he's talking about God's word being spread and she brings it right back to race again
another one you judge a tree by the fruit that it bears and this is a person obviously who Bears rotten fruit she didn't have to take the conversation where she took it pains to do that in in this and to portray him as he probably likely was since this was the Middle East right most people don't know that and he's also Jewish um so the show explores that uh the way Judaism is woven into the story in such a beautiful way your cast is extremely diverse was that important to you and to your director Dallas
Jenkins when this was coming together was that intentional yeah absolutely so so Dallas is the creator of the show we have two other writers in addition to Dallas and they wanted to to bring to the screen the most authentic portrayal of Jesus and his disciples and story and its roots and its jewishness and the diversity of the people and the colors and everybody that would have lived in these next to these seaf fairing towns they were port cities so you had people from all walks of life all all colors all shades that came through this
this this place and so it only felt right to just depict what would have been truly authentic yeah do I have time to ask this question so in the clip that we saw earlier which shows Jesus speaking up for marginalized people people the poor Etc uh which is the Jesus that we love um not everyone interprets that message the same way these days religion in this country even seems weaponized at times uh as a man of deep Faith which you obviously are does that frustrate you at all you know in In that clip we see
Jesus basically taking to task the Pharisees that have essentially perverted the law or or or taken the faith and made it a about the the specificity in the letters of the law versus the heart of the law versus the community you know it was they were taking great pains to follow the law at the expense of the followers and there was Injustice in that and you know anytime you see Injustice taking place um Jesus is not going to be happy about that and so I think I think the fact that we we see him speaking
his mind about it I think uh he gave us a really tough example to follow you know if you haven't gone and watched The Chosen go watch it you will not be disappointed once you get into it you know it's it's honestly hard to stop watching it to be honest with you you will be convicted to keep going um in my opinion it may be the best um you know rendition of the word of God that I've seen at least with you know the New Testament and the life of Jesus I don't think I've seen
anything better than the way that they did it and it's not a movie it's a series over I think at this point maybe four or five years and um it's just phenomenal but leave it to the view to circle the conversation they started a conversation off with race and they ended the conversation they circled it right back to race and I do appreciate Jonathan's humbleness and the way he spoke I also appreciate the fact that he let you know where he was at right before he received this role was down and out broke busted and
disgusted destitute no money no food and what did he do said he gave it all to God and he will make a way always I want to hear from you guys and what your thoughts on this conversation like share subscribe to the channel turn the notifications on click the all so you never miss an upload I appreciate the support if you like to support the channel financially and go that extra mile join the ARP family Super Chat super thanks or buy your man of coffee I appreciate you guys God bless you keep God first in
