Hi friends, good to see you again for another liver video. Last time, in a video you can watch again, we talked about foods that were bad for the liver. Today, we're going to be positive and discuss which foods are good for the liver.
Welcome to the Jean-Michel Cohen channel, the channel where all we talk about is nutrition, and where we won't let you forget it. never tell you about salad. [Music] Masterclass, personalized menu, individualized dietary follow-up, appointment on doctor.
jean-michel-cohen. fr. Let's start with a quick reminder about the organ itself, the liver.
What does it do? The liver is an extremely important organ in our body. We often talk about the heart and kidneys, blood, etc.
, but the liver plays a crucial role. I'm not going to go into too much detail so as not to you, but I will explain its main explain its main functions. The liver is essential for digestion.
À its surface is the gallbladder, which fills with enzymes and juices from the liver. These substances enable the degradation of food once it has left the stomach stomach to reach the intestine. Next, the liver recycles what we absorb.
For example, when we eat food containing sugar, once it reaches the intestine, this sugar is broken down into glucose, which is then taken up by the liver. The decides whether our cells need this glucose. If they don't, the liver takes it away.
stores it, which can lead to problems in the event of excessive sugar intake. Another major function of the liver is fat management. It produces proteins which are used transport fats throughout the body.
If the liver doesn't perform this task properly function, it can lead to the production of of bad proteins that promote accumulation of fat in the arteries. Finally, the liver deals with amino acids. A once the proteins have been broken down, the amino acids arrive in the liver, which decides how they will be used.
use. It can produce proteins to manufacture hormones or to contribute to the production of food. skin structure, for example.
The liver is the major organ that manages all these functions essential to our health. One thing that really annoys me is that we usually talk about detoxification. It's a word that gets thrown around.
I'll give you a detox for the liver, well there's no such thing, guys guys, because the liver itself, it's a detoxification factory. So it's marketing in reverse. So we need to have a healthy liver.
today's video, but there's no story about detoxification. You have two big factories in your body, which are the waste treatment plants, much like those found in cities. On one side, you have the liver, and on the other, you have other tools, the kidney.
The liver, it degrades, it sends back to the kidney, which will eliminate the toxins, or else eventually, it sends them to the intestine so that it passes into the stool. That's why the liver is such an important organ. There are physical signs that can be observed from time to time when you have liver disease.
The clearest sign is when you turn yellow. It means you've got the back of your eyes, the whites of your eyes turn yellow, and even your skin takes on the appearance of a light tan, which means you're a little yellow. And it means there's a chemical compound that passes into your bloodstream called bilirubin and it colors your skin.
If there's no bilirubin, there are other physical signs. physical signs, but this is more serious. This is like you start to have a kind of big belly, and in fact, it's a belly that's is filled with water.
And that means that the liver no longer functions at all. You'd really have to be at a very advanced stage. Otherwise, it's biological signs and ultrasound.
How do you tell if a liver is healthy? Well, that's easy. It means there's no problems.
In other words, your digestion is relatively pleasant. You don't have any problem, you don't have any signs of fatigue, deficiency, etc. , because it's made everything.
You have a muscle in good condition that's capable to produce, i. e. to be energetic, but at the same time in good shape.
You don't have fat, bad fat in your blood. In short, you're in good health, the liver is working. Of course, this doesn't rule out check-ups from time to time.
What are the main checks? Well, first we measure in the direction we're going called transaminases. Transaminases are enzymes found in the liver.
When transaminases rise, it means that the liver cells are damaged, and because they're damaged, they release the enzymes inside them into the bloodstream, i. e. transaminases.
This means means that the liver isn't working very well. When it's not working very well, we ask ourselves why. So it may not be because you've got hepatitis.
There's a virus lurking in the liver, so the liver doesn't work. You obviously have the current super fashion, that's the NASH syndrome. We don't talk about it because we've learned to recognize it.
In NASH syndrome, you have several stages. First, you have a large liver. The doctor, he doesn't have the country, he said, well, you have a big liver.
Either he doesn't do anything, he says, well, we'll see next time, or he starts doing some tests. Secondly, he runs some tests, and there he an increase in transaminases. Oh, dear, which means that the liver isn't working very well.
Thirdly, he's going to check what's going on, and he'll do an ultrasound. The ultrasound will make all the difference. Why is that?
Because there are two possibilities. The first possibility is that the liver is bright and enlarged. When it's associated with transaminases that are increased, poof, that means it's NASH.
syndrome, it's a fatty liver syndrome. So there you go, bingo, he knows that at that point, he's going to have to stop all sugar. You'll see this in the video I shot earlier.
Second possibility: transaminases have risen, the liver is not bright, but he'll find a nodule, something something wrong inside. Third possibility, he finds nothing, by a large liver and increased transaminases. He goes He'll check for a virus, and once he's that there's a virus, and once he's checked that there's a virus, well, he knows it's probably, probably there are lots of other diseases, but I'm not going to give you a mind-numbing video, but most of the time, it'll be hepatitis.
There is one I'd like to mention to you, is medication. This means that there are lots of medicines for people who are toxic to the liver. Be careful when it says so on the label.
Be careful, sometimes there are drugs that damage your liver. So it won't do you any good to eat well, to take care of your health, etc. , and then in a take a medicine for I don't know what.
and end up with what we call drug-induced hepatitis. That, you'll see with your doctor. We'll we'll ask ourselves the question, do we with what can we do to improve liver function?
In fact, it's all one aspect, I would say theoretical. It means that we've found relationships between good liver health and certain foods. So the first food is a simple one, the one for which you could have is lemon.
So why lemons? Yeah, I know, the water with the lemon in the morning, etc. Lemon is actually a food that tastes acidic taste, but actually, it causes an increase in the secretion of salivary secretions and of the gall bladder.
So if you take lemon, you're actually improving digestion. If you improve digestion, I'm going to be vulgar, you're not clogging up the liver. So lemon is a very good food for the liver.
It's worth it. So the story of water with lemon in the morning, I've always said it's not a miracle, but it's not that bad anyway. The second food is that we've found a relationship, we've done studies to see correlations between liver condition and the foods consumed.
And what did we find? We found found that polyunsaturated fatty acids, as you also remember, are very polyunsaturated, I remind you. You have the saturated fatty acids, they move the arteries, they're not not very good for our health.
You've got polyunsaturated fats, they don't move the arteries. You've got the monounsaturates, not only do they not move the arteries, but they do it too, they improve them. So, we found that polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids are linked to good liver health.
Where do we generally find them? In good vegetable oils. The number 1 vegetable oil is olive oil.
Why is that? Because it has a second interesting aspect of olive oil. It's that olive oil, in addition to polyunsaturated fatty acids polyunsaturated fatty acids, it's going to contain antioxidants.
And antioxidants are protectors, because they prevent the aging of cells. They help strengthen liver cells. Third food.
Or here I'm at odds with myself, you know I don't like magic foods, that is to say, I don't like people who you "eat bamboo fiber, because then you'll be super healthy" or "take ginger, because ginger it's going to be a hot night, guys. " Now, I don't like it. And yet, I'm obliged to admit that spirulina is a food that would seem, through its presence of antioxidants and then by the relationship we've found between liver enzymes and spirulina consumption, would seem to be a food that improves liver health.
This would mean that taking a little spirulina (I didn't say to put it at breakfast breakfast, lunch, dinner), take a little spirulina regularly, I'm not too bad on taste, well that would be not bad for your liver. So that doesn't mean it's going to cure you when you're sick, but it does means that it's going to prevent a liver from maybe getting sick faster, if there was a problem. In the category of super antioxidants, protective foods, we have.
. . Oh yeah, we've got you have seen, I'm contradicting myself, turmeric.
So yes, turmeric has a positive effect on the liver, correlation, improvement. I'll save the best food for last. suspense, turmeric is also said to have an antioxidant and protective effect on the liver.
Can I skip probiotics? And here we find the same problem as with lemon. As you know, probiotics are what nourish the microbiota.
From the moment you consume probiotics, you improve your digestion and your microbiota. So, means that by improving digestion, you're not putting any strain on the liver. So probiotics would have a positive effect on the liver.
I inflict myself, I call myself until the end. There was a positive correlation between nuts and a healthy liver. Conclusion: it's true that you should eat nuts from time to time.
Except, we didn't say that it's every day. We just said, for example, I just told you spirulina, turmeric, and walnuts. Well, take one every day, but change it.
It's an eating coup, so when it's black, it's not a kilo. Take 20 to 30 g of nuts once a week. Take a little spirulina once a week.
Take a little probiotic. Take a small log. Cook with olive oil, and then you'll have a well-functioning liver.
And the food of foods, foods, foods food is the. . .
3 seconds to think. 1, 2, 3, coffee. Yes, I said coffee, and I didn't I didn't say tea.
Yes, tea is a great good product, we agree, it contains isoflavones, etc. , so polyphenols and everything. Ok, on the other hand, there have been studies done on coffee, and it's been found that drinking two cups of coffee a day reduced the risk of developing breast cancer.
liver cancer by 50%, 50%! So, coffee, which has long been accused of being a product that stimulates us excited us, etc. , no, coffee is a hepatoprotector.
hepatoprotective. And it's part of this this time, it's serious, it's as much time times, we don't have scientific proof, we have correlations between products, but in this case, it's been tested on isolated consumers of coffee, there's a 30% improvement, the guy who drinks two cups of coffee a day, 47% improvement. That's great, isn't it?
Here's what I had to say about liver protection. Conclusion if you consume this kind of stuff, you'll have a healthier liver. health.
So follow this advice, and you won't get sick. If you liked this video, you'll like it, you share it, you subscribe to it, you comment on it, you review it, you give me video suggestions, and I'll see you soon, Zamis.
