going out for a little walk around the neighborhood clearing our minds getting away if you could just do one thing to improve your Fitness and overall health what would it be little story so I've done the fitness series and all this stuff and talked about it a lot of people who don't know my background I was a personal trainer coach nutrition dude and ran a fairly successful business doing it how do I measure success well I got more clients every year and made more money every year so that's how I measured that I've had a
lot of people write me over the years asking for advice and all this stuff of course but people have asked a very good question why I don't do it anymore well many reasons um for one I could not sacrifice my principles and just put people on The Fad trendy diets they wanted to to lose a bunch of water weight and give them the illusion that things worked take their money and then a couple months down the road they're right back to where they started and usually worse so what I started doing when my clientele list
got too long and I had too many people coming and I wanted to start to screen and not take on new personal training clients I don't know if you know this but training people for personal training unless you're like in a ritzy area or you're just working with very wealthy people charging a lot it's not doble for all the training you got to do during the day you can't charge enough to make it worthwhile so I started to screen people and the best way I found to do that was also a really good way to
get people in the proper mindset and also get them to trust me believe it or not grown men don't want to listen to other grown men especially if they're younger than them doesn't matter how good you look what you know they're older they know everything when I was training them you know they'd be fat and weak and still wouldn't want to listen to me and I got tired of that so what I did was when I had very large people coming to me obese we call them special populations I didn't want to take on somebody
who wanted a quick fix and they came to me cuz they watch these extreme weight loss boot camp shows and they're like I want to be ripped in 6 months and I'm like well that ain't going to happen dude it's going to be a long road for you to be totally honest we're probably looking at 2 years of hard work and a lot none of them wanted to hear that so up front I'd get the argumentative and I'd walk home with my $50 hourlong consultation fee but I would lay out a program for him in
that hour and here's the thing to not waste anybody's time or waste their money I cared about that I would put them on a simple walking program I'd say all right you're going to prove your dedication to me and yourself and we're not going to waste your money so here's what we're going to do you got an hourong consultation fee um but for the next month you're going to train yourself and it's going to be free I'm not going to charge you I'm just going to help you out so here's what you're going to do
you are going to walk walk that's it just go for a walk brisk Pace leisurely Pace whatever you want for an hour every single day it's like so that's going to be 30 days straight minimum of walking for an hour that's about 3 and 1/2 to 4 miles a day depending on your stride they look at me like I'm nuts and we're going to control this by you sending me a picture every day after your walk and and just send me a picture of you time on your watch or whatever telling me you did it
in some cases people could just send me a text and say hey I did my walk good to go now what I found was the people who weren't ready to train at all they would text me for the first week maybe two some of them just a couple days and then after a little bit I'd stopped getting text messages and I didn't bug them I didn't call them cuz I'm not their trainer yet I would just notice their text dropped off never heard from them a week would go by and I'd get a message oh
well I had this issue and we had this going on and couldn't make it work was tough bad weather and I'm like okay no problem and that would be it I would never have to take them on as a client who can't even be dedicated enough to do something for a month knowing it would take years to train them nice little quiet Lookout Point area and we got a bench they fixed it it's concrete now it's good it's a Reflection Point the people who stuck with it number one I got to see that they were
dedicated enough to do something for just a month knowing it take years to work with them and they got the most most important lesson to start off their Journey right so we would do the end of the month consultation I wouldn't charge them for it I just go meet him every single time every person who followed this looked better felt better lost weight on the scale probably also lost some fat too but I didn't put a caliper or a machine on them so just by walking every day for an hour which is for most people
is already a great start you can do that for months if you're trying to get your steps in every day rain or shine no matter what the conditions are no matter what your life is like you're already A step above the average Westerner now if you've got an active job and you are on your feet all day like I work with a lot of Tradesmen on their feet all day sitting and Welding climbing ladders freaking hauling stuff around scaffolding they're getting their steps in you better believe it so those guys I would say they need
to get to a gym you've got the aerobic capacity down you're getting your steps in you are an active person that's awesome now let's get you stronger take you from zero squat zero deadlift zero bench to some kind of decent man numbers you can check out the combat fitness test to see the bare minimum any grown man should be able to hit those numbers if you can't hit those numbers now couple months of a good strength training program starting strength Michael Matthews bigger leaner stronger pick one in a couple months retest and getting to pass
that test is really just to prove to you how awesome just getting stronger is especially if you're already pretty active you will notice a change in your overall health how you feel during the day if you have an active job getting stronger will make it 100 times easier if you're a combat dude that 35 lb Patrol kit all of a sudden feels a lot lighter doesn't weigh you down as much cuz you gained some weight you put some muscle on and you got stronger but back to the screening personal training clients a lot of people
got pretty upset about how I would do that my wife included she's like you know you're going to lose clients and money you can work those people for two years and get money out of them some of them were offering to pay double my going rate which is already pretty high and if they didn't do that month trial with me I dropped them I fired them as a client it's all about time management you know as you get older you realize time is your most important asset you can buy a new house you can rebuild
you can get a new car you you can fix stuff but you cannot get back lost time I don't care about the money I care about time and I'm telling you the guys who just walked every day for an hour for 30 days and stuck with it it was such a morale boost for them that when I said okay you see how simple this is all you did was move your ass daily that's all you changed you didn't change anything else I didn't put you on a diet you didn't do hippity hoppity jumping around aerobics
you just moved your ass so now instead of doing the extreme boot camp crap where we might hurt you or kill you or burn you out and you quit and couple months we're just going to freaking add a couple variables every couple months and then we'll start to work on your diet which for most guys the diet is not the problem even the obese dudes usually they're still under eating but once we got them training once we got them to understand how important daily activity was and we got them stronger then we would look at
their diet and usually almost every single time I had to add calories so I guess the point is guys get off the internet quit researching I think you all are done researching everybody wants the optimal diet the optimal optimized fitness program they want the Delta seal body weight program those guys don't do that by the way they don't get their physiques from that quit the analysis paralysis trap you are done researching go execute go out and do it if you are lost and you can't decide on what to do go walk every single day go
walk man you guys might be shaking your heads or laughing but I'm telling you do it for 30 days straight an hour every single day don't worry about the mileage don't worry about the time any of that don't worry about the rucks just go walk every single day for an hour in 30 in 30 days check in with yourself see what you notice you might notice something you might learn something about yourself and you know what at the very least going to prove to yourself that minor changes here and there go a long way and
this whole fad of getting ripped and jacked in a couple weeks is ridiculous it's nonsense and it's not going to do anything for you so start walking guys who gives a what the weather's like we evolved in this crap might even boost your immune system and then you got people who sit on their training and don't do CU they're building Capital to get the right gear look at what we got this is like cotton polyester the cowboy boots are good for this climate but we got dner jeans doomsday canvas jeans Insanity somehow I'm surviving too
I don't know how we're going to make it we got an hour left to get home not sure we're going to make it guys gear doesn't matter either see you
