God gave him Visions visions that not only revealed the future of his time but the fate of the entire world the most important a prophecy known as the 70 weeks a timeline that would lead us straight to the final days of History many think if you want to understand what's happening in the world you need to read the news but newspapers can only tell you so much they can report the past and present but that's not enough to understand the big picture of what's really going on soon we'll explore how Daniel's Visions line up with

the rise of global superpowers today the connections will shock you if the Bible has already predicted the rise and fall of Empires what does it say about the Empire that comes next the Bible on the other hand is much more powerful and important if more people read their Bibles instead of newspapers they'd understand what's happening in the world and to our country everything is in the Bible the Book of Daniel for example is a mix of history and prophecy history tells us what happened in the past and prophecy shows us what will happen in the

future the Bible is very careful about dates when it comes to history in Daniel chapter 9 we see something amazing God allows people to know not just what will happen but exactly when it will happen even hundreds of years in advance if Daniel's timeline has been accurate so far it means The Final Countdown is not a question of if but when only God can do that he can tell the history of events five centuries before they even happen now let's take a closer look at this chapter we begin with the promise found in Scripture it

all starts with Daniel who was 87 years old at the time reading the Bible you're never too old to read God's word Daniel even at 87 was still a student of God's word he treasured the Bible more than any other writings he read the scriptures carefully because of the times he was living in this was during the first year of King Darius ruling over Babylon after it had been conquered what was Daniel looking for he wanted to understand God's plan for the big changes happening in his world Babylon had fallen its last king belshazzar had

died after throwing a wild party the Persians had taken over and cus the King of Persia made his nephew Darius the ruler of Babylon why is Israel the key to understanding the timeline of the end Daniel was back in an important position as a leader in the government but he wasn't like most politicians who ignore God Daniel kept reading the Bible and seeking wisdom from God's word the question in Daniel's mind was this how is the change in government going to affect God's people now that they were under the rule of the Persians did it

mean they might finally return to their own land and the freedom they once had would this new government bring Liberty it was a fair question because it was the cruel Tyrant Nebuchadnezzar who had taken Daniel and hundreds of others away from their homes a few years later Nebuchadnezzar had even destroyed Jerusalem Burning It To The Ground so naturally Daniel wondered if this new rule would mean free freedom for his people but instead of going straight to Darius the new king or Cyrus the new emperor Daniel went to God with his question even though Cyrus was

the one who would eventually grant them their freedom Daniel asked God first Lord what do you say what's next in your plan before Daniel Prayed he studied God's word this teaches us how important it is to pay attention to what God God has already said before asking him for new answers God has spoken to us in so many ways and our first job is to find out what he has already told us then we can pray and ask Lord do you have more wisdom or guidance to add to what I've learned of course Daniel didn't

have the entire Bible like we do he didn't have the New Testament and even parts of the Old Testament were still being written some of it by Daniel himself in his own journal but Daniel did have access to books that recorded God's words to earlier prophets one of these prophets was Jeremiah a man Daniel had heard of when he was a teenager back in Jerusalem Jeremiah had been a lonely figure often called a pessimist because of the hard truths he preached when most prophets of the time said their peace is coming Jeremiah said war is

coming when they said we are secure Jeremiah said Exile is near even after the Exile began and the first groups of people were taken away in Chains false prophets told the people don't worry it'll only last a couple of years but Jeremiah warned them no it will be 70 years before you can return the answer was in Jeremiah chapters 25 and 29 if you read chapter 29 you'll see that God connected the promise of returning to Jerusalem with a condition if you seek me with your whole heart you will find me and I will hear

you and answer you this meant the promise wasn't automatic the people needed to pray God said that after 70 years if they called on him he would hear them and end their slavery Daniel realized ized something shocking the 70 years were almost over but no one was praying and now we're in a moment just like Daniel's time on the verge of Prophecy being fulfilled the window is closing fast he couldn't believe it they could go back if they prayed but no one was calling out to God Daniel didn't blame others or get angry at them

for not praying instead he decided to start praying himself Daniel prepared to pray in a very serious way he didn't just say a quick prayer he made a plan he realized that his fancy prime minister robes weren't right for the kind of prayer he needed to pray so he changed into sackcloth covered himself in ashes and even skipped his meals he set his heart to seek God's face and pray for the promise to come true Daniel Prayed with a heart focused on God's name God's sake and God's glory he was so confident in this that

he asked God delay not Daniel wanted an answer right away and he prayed with boldness because he stood on the Solid Ground of God's promises while Daniel was praying the angel Gabriel appeared to him isn't that amazing the Bible says G Gabriel touched Daniel Daniel Prayed for an immediate answer and Gabriel showed up Daniel hadn't seen Gabriel for 10 years but this time he wasn't afraid he understood what was happening in verse 24 Gabriel says 77s are decreed for your people and your holy city most Bible teachers agree that the 77s mean 70 weeks of

years that means it is talking about a time period of 490 years these verses act like a clock showing when the Messiah would come and some of the things that would happen when he arrived the prophecy splits the 490 years into three parts 49 years 434 years and 7 years the last seven years are also split into two parts verse 25 says from the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the anointed one the ruler comes there will be seven sevs and 62 sevens this prophecy tells us about God's six big

reasons for making these events happen in verse 24 it says God's purpose is first to finish transgression second to put an end to sin third to atone for wickedness fourth to bring in Everlasting righteousness fifth to seal up vision and prophecy and sixth to anoint the most holy look closely at these results they show that God will completely remove sin and bring in perfect righteousness the prophecy of the 70 weeks explains what must happen before Jesus sets up his Millennial Kingdom one very important part of this list is the third point to atone for wickedness

Jesus made this atonement for sin when he died on the cross Gabriel said that the countdown to God's plan would begin when a command was given to rebuild Jerusalem what event will start the last seven years of history from the time of that command until the Messiah would be 483 years out of the 77s 69 have already happened in history that means there is still one more seven to come and this last seven-year time is when the most terrible events in human history will take place many Bible teachers believe we are now in a long

pause between the 69th week and the 70th week it's like God has stopped the prophetic clock for a while this last seven from Daniel's prophecy is what we call the tribulation period Daniel's prophecy tells us about some of the things the Antichrist the ruler who will come will do verse 27 says he will confirm a covenant with many for one seven but in the middle of the seven he will set up an Abomination that causes desolation in the temple Jesus also warned about this in Matthew 24:15 when the Antichrist breaks his promise with Israel a

time of Great Tribulation will begin Matthew 24:21 New King James Version but this was not the end of the prophecy imagine this a vision of Nations forming alliances Powers Rising across the globe and ancient prophecies unfolding right before our eyes could we be witnessing the rise of the 10 nations prophesied in the Book of Daniel are we closer to the end times than we think with the second half of Daniel we get into a very different part of this book we move from talking about things that already happened to things that will happen in the

future only the word of God can do this other people might try to guess or study the stars but only God can tell us exactly what will happen Daniel went to bed and had a dream in this dream God gave him Assurance about the future God showed him something so important that even when Daniel woke up he saw it again in a vision in the Bible the word Vision means something you see while you are awake while a dream is something you see while you are asleep both can come from the Holy Spirit when the

Holy Spirit speaks to people the Bible says old men dream dreams and young men see Visions these pictures come alive in our minds and God uses them to tell us things in Daniel's dream God pull pulled back the curtain that hides the future from us maybe it came in a dream because if Daniel had been awake he might have argued or tried to reason it away but in a dream you tend to accept strange things as normal don't you you might even talk to people in the dream and ask them questions just like Daniel did

he asked an angel in the dream what it all meant and the angel explained it to him when Daniel woke up he saw the vision just as vividly as before he quickly grabbed something to write on his bedside diary and wrote everything down that's how we have this part of God's word today it's written down for us to learn from now let's look at this dream and what it's all about this chapter divides very neatly into seven Parts these seven features can be grouped into four and three making it easier for us to understand understand

let's take a closer look together then the dream completely changes and Daniel sees three human figures one of them is a very old man called the Ancient of Days another is a younger man called son of man and the third group is made up of lots of people called Saints of the most high so in the first part of the dream Daniel sees animals and and in the second part he sees humans but we'll need to look closer at that later the two parts of the dream are very different for example the animals in the

first part of the dream come out of the sea they are rising up but in the second part of the dream the humans are surrounded by clouds and the focus is on the sky not the sea something seems to be coming down from above in the first part there are monsters Rising but in the second part there is something Majestic coming down the four animals in the dream are scary and fierce they attack others and seem to cause trouble each one seems to cause harm and then fade away until the fourth one shows up which

is the worst of all so the first part of the dream feels scary and threatening the second part is more comforting and encouraging even though the dream is like a nightmare Daniel ends up feeling a little better he's pale and shaken but he knows the dream has a good or holy ending that's the dream seven things in total first four animals then three human figures now what does the dream mean we need to figure that out Daniel didn't understand the dream at first so he had to ask someone for the meaning let's start with with

the four scary animals and what they represent we have an advantage over Daniel because we have the Bible which includes the Book of Revelation Revelation is also called the apocalypse which means to uncover or to reveal in chapters 13 and 14 of revelation we find a lot of information about Daniel's dream especially about the fourth animal the Bible gives us Clues to help us understand these things Revelation is like a deeper explanation of the Book of Daniel and the two are connected closely let's look at the animals in Daniel's dream the angel tells Daniel that

the animals stand for Empires and rulers It's Not Unusual for Empires to use strange animals to represent themselves think of the Unicorn it doesn't exist but it's still used to represent the British Empire along with the lion on the gates of is T in Babylon there is a picture of a strange animal with the head of a snake the body of a lion and the claws of an eagle these four strange animals in Daniel's dream made from parts of different animals represent Empires and rulers on Earth the sea in the dream is like a stormy

ocean with winds blowing from every direction north south east and west the the Bible says these are the Four Winds stirring up the sea like a great hurricane this shows how messy and stormy human history has been people are always changing and the world's map changes almost as fast as the weather it's like the weather charts you see on TV each night things are always moving and shifting out of this messy stormy history come four animals but what do the winds represent the Bible doesn't say but I'll give you my best guess in the Bible

the word wind is the same as the words spirit and breath so these four winds or Spirits could be about evil spirits influencing human history these Spirits stir up trouble and bring out all kinds of cruel and wild things out of this chaos stirred by evil spirits come four beasts or animals that that is what the Bible clearly says so the lion the bear and the panther represent kingdoms that will still be around even when the fourth kingdom is gone now let's figure out who these beasts are I'll start with the fourth Beast because it's

the easiest to identify it's the clearest one and it has the most Clues it's also the most important beast of the four in fact the Bible gives us 21 verses about this beast but only three about the other three this tells us that the main point of the whole dream is about this fourth Beast it's the biggest thing in the whole Vision here's where the Book of Revelation helps us and it gets even more chilling because Revelation connects this Empire with economic control political dominance and a total transformation of society it talks about the last

World Kingdom in human history as a beast with 10 Kings the last kingdom ever to rule the world will have 10 Kings just like in Daniel's dream does that sound familiar Revelation also says something surprising this last Beast will take parts of the first three beasts it will have a lion's mouth a leopard's body and a bear's feet this means the last Kingdom will have some of the same traits as the first three beasts Revelation also tells us that out of those 10 horns one will become the strongest this horn will grow into the last

World dictator Revelation even gives this dictator a name Antichrist now the word anti doesn't just mean against it also means instead of so the Antichrist is someone who sets himself up as instead of Christ the last world leader the Bible tells us that one day there will be a dictator who controls the entire world this is the final part of world history this leader will rise to power through cruel and violent methods crushing anyone who stands in the way that's why the fourth Beast has iron teeth and Brass claws it's ruthless and Powerful if this

is true then we know who the fourth Beast is and when it shows up in history we'll recognize it mark my words at the end of time there will be a kingdom with 10 rulers Daniel tells us that out of 10 leaders three will lose their power and be removed from their countries or States within the world Empire then one small leader called the little horn will rise up this leader will take over those three leaders first then control the other seven becoming a world dictator when this happens you'll know we are in the final

part of human history this little horn is described as an evil man who will control everything he will have a loud mouth and eyes that draw people in he will use radio and television to gain power over the world the Bible says he will try to do what they tried in the French Revolution he will change laws times seasons and even the days of the week one thing he will do is get rid of the 7-Day week Sunday will Disappear Completely during the French Revolution they tried a 10day week to remove Sunday and this man

will do the same all of God's laws which teach us how to live and treat each other this man will change because he is Antichrist he wants to make his own laws for people instead of following Christ's laws the Bible also says he will fight against God people Christians will go through terrible suffering during this time but praise God he promises that this suffering will only last for a short time three and a half years God says I have limited those days I've shortened them three and a half years and they are finished that's as

much as I will allow him this time of 3 and 1/2 years is mentioned in Revelation many times some sometimes it's called 3 and 1/2 years sometimes 42 months and sometimes the same number of days it is a set time when God's people will face great trouble Revelation also tells us that people will need a special number on their foreheads to go into a store and buy food this number will likely be connected to an account but without it you won't be able to buy anything God's people the Saints will refuse to take that number

can you imagine how hard life will be for families during this time this is the final Beast that Daniel spoke about Revelation gives even more details about what Daniel saw we call this time the big trouble or in Bible terms the Great Tribulation now I think it's pretty clear we've found the strange creature I call the Griffin this is the hybrid beast from Daniel's dream it's not the Roman Empire because that's long gone Instead This is the final Empire in world history the peak of Satan's power Satan will set up a human dictator to rule

everything honestly I hope neither we nor our kids are alive when it happens but signs show that we might be so we need to pray for God to prepare us now I haven't pinpointed this exactly I can't tell you which rule ruler or country this Antichrist will come from he hasn't appeared yet but people often like to guess pointing to world leaders and saying this is him the Apostle John even said there are many antichrists already in the world but the big one hasn't come yet there are plenty of people who want to act like

Christ who want to be saviors to their people some want to be worshiped make laws or change them these are the smaller antichrists but the one we're waiting for hasn't come yet when he does I won't need to tell you who he is from everything I've said you'll already know and you'll realize we're in the final moments now what about the other three beasts these are three world powers that will rise before the final Empire they'll lose their strength but still exist as Nations when the last one appears and they'll survive even after it's gone

do we have any clues about who they are there's one biblical principle to follow the Nations and Empires mentioned in the Bible all had some connection to God's holy land that's why for example China isn't mentioned it hasn't had any dealings with the Holy Land that's also why America isn't directly mentioned so we have to focus on Nations that have had Direct involvement with Jerusalem Israel or the Holy Land Babylon Persia Greece and Rome fit this pattern which is why they're in Daniel chapter 2 but are there modern Nations or Empires that match these symbols

what I'm going to share now is my personal opinion you could call it speculation but I feel it's worth saying what Empire could be symbolized by a lion that had dealings with Jerusalem I think it's the British Empire from 1917 when General Allenby walked into Jerusalem to 1948 when Britain left we were responsible for God's holy city whether we wanted to or not we got pulled into the Middle East Yes we made conflicting Promises to the Arabs and Jews which is why neither group trusts us now but still we were involved and I believe that

made us part of God's plan in history so where do the Eagle's Wings fit in the lion is the king of the beasts and the eagle is the king of the birds in this Vision the Eagle's Wings might represent America time and again America's strength and power have come to our rescue the English-speaking Western world has been tied together but here's the interesting part of the vision the wings and the lion get separated and start acting on their own the lion is left without the wings the British Lion which once ruled a vast Empire has

been cut down to the size of a single nation we're no longer a world power and we need to accept it we're just an ordinary Nation now treated like everyone else that's why some call us the toothless Li lion we're no longer a power to be feared could this be what the vision is showing us do you think we figured out the first Beast if so let's move on to the second one and ask what Empire could be symbolized by a bear what nation is getting more involved in the Middle East and starting to affect

God's people there to me the answer is as clear as day it's Russia the bear is a clumsy animal not very smart but it's Fierce and attacks with sheer weight and strength one of the most interesting things in the Hebrew text is that the bear is described as raised up on one side stretching one paw in One Direction but seeming afraid to stretch out the other to me this fits perfectly with the Russian Bear reaching its claws into Europe while not daring to make a move against China could this be correct here's how we could

know if what I've said about the lion and the bear is true then the next thing to happen would be the rise of a new Empire symbolized by a panther with four rulers now let's look at something more positive and wonderful let's focus on what Daniel saw in his dream the scene shifts from Earth to Heaven just like in the Book of Revelation one moment you're looking at the troubles on earth and the next you're seeing Heaven's perspective Heaven and Earth are connected God is there watching over the Earth controlling it and judging it he

decides what happens tomorrow he allows things to happen and he will bring it all to an end there are three things to notice here first the Ancient of Days this is the only time in the Bible where God is pictured as a humanlike figure he is described as an old man sitting on a throne with wheels but the oldness isn't meant to make God seem weak or scile instead it shows that he has always been there while the beasts rise and fall while human Empires come and go God remains constant what a beautiful name the

Ancient of Days In A Hymn we sing Immortal invisible God only wise he is the the oldest ruler of Earth meaning he has always ruled these beasts these human powers are just playing their games down here all the while God Is Watching controlling and allowing everything he knows exactly what he will do the picture of God here is amazing imagine a pile of books and God is opening them and reading from them what are these books they are records of everything people have done on Earth whether or not you keep a journal God keeps a

journal of your life did you know that in heaven there's a record written for every day of your life think about what you write in your Journal do you include your mistakes and sins it's actually a good habit if you do when you write that you're just copying what's already written in God's Journal about you God reads these books to decide what to do with people from God's Throne thousands of angels are ready to follow his commands they wait for him to say go down to earth and do this multitudes of people are gathered around

the throne waiting from the throne rivers of fire flow out showing God's judgment fire does two things it burns away what is useless like trash and refines what is valuable like gold this fire from God's Throne shows his judgment what's happening here I'll tell you God is deciding what to do with human history he's reading the books and deciding what will happen next God looks at the fourth beast and reads his books when he gives the order his angels will carry it out the next person Daniel sees is younger like a son of man notice

that phrase son of man it's not in every translation but it is in the original Hebrew this son of man is standing on the clouds the clouds carry him to the throne where the Ancient of Days gives him a crown then the son of man is carried by the clouds back to Earth it's an incredible scene who is this son of man it's Jesus did you know this was Jesus's favorite title for himself have you ever wondered why Jesus called himself the son of man so often he could have called himself the Son of God

but instead he said things like the son of man came to seek and save the lost and the son of man will be delivered into the hands of men why did he use that title the answer is in the Book of Daniel here's proof in the Gospel of Luke alone Jesus calls himself the son of man 27 times when Jesus was on trial before Annis and Caiaphas they asked him are you the Christ are you you the son of the Living God do you know what Jesus said I am which is the name of God

and then he added you will see the son of man coming on the Clouds Of Heaven he was quoting this very verse from Daniel there's no question about it the son of man is Jesus here we are looking at Jesus the son of man and God the Ancient of Days God has given all the kingdoms of the world world to Jesus now let's take the next step God the father gives the kingdoms of the world to Jesus and Jesus comes with clouds of Glory have you ever seen clouds that look Majestic maybe you've flown in

a plain above the clouds and seen how beautiful they are when the Sun Shines on the fluffy billowing clouds they look like heaven do you know God's favorite color it's white In this passage his clothes are white and his hair is white as snow white is the color of Heaven the color of God's Majesty the son of man comes with these glorious shining clouds here's the amazing part the son of man isn't going to keep this Kingdom to himself he's going to share it with his people the Saints of the most high this is the

part of the prophecy that gives hope because no matter how dark things get Daniel saw the moment when history reaches its true conclusion Daniel sees three groups an old man which is a picture of God a young man which is a picture of Jesus and a large group of people which represents the Saints of the most high here's the truth the Saints of the most high those who believe in Jesus will one day rule the world with him isn't that incredible imagine yourself as part of the government of God's kingdom when the kingdoms of this

world become the kingdom of Christ he will share his reign with his people and they will rule with him forever you've probably heard choirs sing he shall reign forever and ever but here's the amazing part we will reign with him forever and ever everything that has happened before every Kingdom every war every prophecy It All Leads to this final event the Bible says so remember leaders like Hitler claimed their Empires would last for a thousand years but they fell in less than 20 in Daniel 7 we see the Saints will have a kingdom that lasts

forever a thousand years that's nothing compared to Eternity let that truth sink into your heart the Ancient of Days says to the son of man the kingdom is yours then the son of man says to the Saints the kingdom is yours in Christ all things are ours there's no doubt about this part of Daniel 7 it's a promise we can hold on to this is the one I want you to look at I'm sure I'm right about the fourth beast and this one I'm absolutely certain about that we shall reign with him so we have

interpreted the dream now you might ask how does this help me live my life maybe you're thinking this all sounds like it's up in the clouds and I'm confused I need comfort and real help for my everyday life let me tell you something I've been giving you the best help I can and the best help you need and I'll tell you why with two reasons both starting with the letter H first I want you to have the Christian virtue of hope we often forget about hope the Bible says faith hope and love are the three

things that will last forever we talk a lot about faith we talk even more about love but we hardly ever talk about Hope yet it's one of the most important virtues in the Christian Life what I've been trying to do is strengthen your hope I've heard so many people say I don't know what things are coming to but I've never heard a Christian say that isn't that interesting a Christian knows we don't say I don't know what's going to happen instead we say I know what's coming and that makes us able to help others when

someone says I don't know what things are coming to you can lovingly say I do would you would you like to hear tell them this one day all the dictatorships and kingdoms of the world will be gone human civilization will fade away and in its place the kingdom of God will come Jesus will return to Reign and if we believe in him we can reign with him that's hope in the Bible hope isn't something you're unsure about like when someone says I hope it happens no in the Bible hope means you know it will happen

as we study these last chapters of Daniel let your hope grow in a world that doesn't know where it's going we can boldly say we know the second thing is this I hope this study has made you think about Holiness why because if you're going to reign with Jesus you need to get ready imagine you're a prince or princess who knows that one day you'll will have the responsibility of governing the role Christ gives you in his kingdom will be based on how faithful you are now if you've been faithful in small things he can

trust you with big things your position in his kingdom depends on how you live your life this week and how you respond to his grace the Bible says everyone that has this hope in him purifies himself that means we should live like royalty right now we need to act with the dignity of God's Royal children that's practical isn't it Jesus is making us into a kingdom of priests for God so we should live worthy lives and get ready for the responsibilities he'll give us thinking about the future and Jesus's return in glory should Inspire us

to live holy lives is this just speculation number it's about how you handle your daily life your chores your work and how you behave tomorrow morning isn't that exciting God's word shows us the big picture of history and where everything is headed and now it's asking you are you getting ready if you're not then no matter how much you say you believe people will have a hard time trusting you they'll think if this is true why doesn't your life show it
