if you're looking to really improve your life it doesn't really matter what you do every once in a while what matters is the things that you do consistently every day for a long time so in this video I wanted to share 50 small things that you can do that have really improved my life these tips have simplified my life they've improved my work Health relationships mental Clarity so even though some of these are really small over a long period of time they will make a huge difference and I know it's a big list so just
pick a few practice selective ignorance I'm not to be dumb but generally if something is in the news it is therefore newsworthy and unlikely to happen to you or affect your life in any way it will most likely impact you in a negative way because negativity sells so I just stopped following news almost completely and when I need to know something I will ask some friends who are addicted to the news they will catch me up on everything I missed without all the stress this the most important question is not will I use this but
what would no that's stuck what would I use if I did didn't have this so when I'm trying to decide what to declutter what to let go of if I should get rid of something that is one of the questions that I ask how would my life be different if I didn't have this by the way generally it's no different at all take social media off of your phone social media is such a Negative sess poool of nothingness that generally is an escape from the important things in your life or just makes you feel bad
by thinking that you're feeling good when looking at other people's lives there's very very few benefits to it if you don't want to get rid of it entirely just unfollow a bunch of people who make you feel crappy about your life and only follow positive influences or your close friends but if you're addicted to it and you can't get off your phone uninstall it for like one day and then see how you feel one day later you'll feel better just don't color your hair unless you want it I don't color my hair I know what
you're thinking Gabe that's a weird one but I started going great when I was 18 it's gotten much worse as you can see and I made the decision not to dye my hair because that one decision will save me probably 100 hours over the course of my life maybe more it'll save me time money I won't be fake I won't worry about it if I'm completely gray by 30 it is what it is but I know that that is going to add something to my life for the rest of my life if I start going
down that path of coloring my hair so I've decided not to do it this does not apply to everybody but you have something in your life that you decide to do it once and you have to do it for like the rest of your life or for a really long time what would happen if you just said no clean as you go I should have made some order to this list but in my defense I didn't but this is a really good rule my house has a tendency to just get completely destroyed especially if I
don't clean up as I go by the time the weekend comes around I have to spend half a Saturday just resetting my house so instead I've been practicing just cleaning as I go as I finish a meal I put the dishes away as I take off my shirt I put it in the hamper not on the floor when laundry's done we put it away right away we reset the house for like 3 minutes and 5 minutes and 10 minutes at a time throughout the day so that it never gets out of hand and just the
simple one thing is life-changing stress wise maybe I just get stressed out easily by stuff but I like it schedule in self care time most of us think we don't have enough time to take a long bath to go for a walk to go for a hike to paint to do Pottery to do whatever it is that chills you out no matter what's your life like you probably do have time if you check your screen time you got time so schedule it in like it's something very important into your week every week schedule in some
self-care time treat it like it's a doctor's appointment or a dentist appoint appointment even though I hate the dentist but when you actually have it in your calendar and set like that you're more likely to actually do it and taking time to take care of yourself has benefits in so many ways use an earbud because of this cheap Amazon earbud I actually lost the other one I only have one I've listened to so many books while I'm doing the dishes going for walks sitting with my daughter when she's up in the middle of the night
now you don't want to overdo this cuz then you could just like always have something going in your ear constantly but I've read dozens of books literally because of an earbud I love it by red I mean listen to but it has absolutely improved my life I can't lose this one it's the only one I've got have some go-to meals this is actually a cinnamon raising cookies but they're so good one of the things that has kept me relatively healthy and in shape is having go-to meals that I can have that I can make really
quick and are relatively good for me this makes the excuse of like oh I don't have time to cook or I don't know what to make if you have like five meals that you can make in like 5 minutes that are Rel relatively healthy you're just going to end up eating better in general it's also cheaper I'll leave a link to some videos of batch cooking that we did recently it's very good also this has probably saved us hundreds of dollars just having a calendar and planning out our meals when we're going to eat them
what we're going to eat and then we know exactly what to buy at the store there's less impulse buying we generally have healthier meals if you're not meal planning you're making your life harder than it needs to be the 5 minute cleanup resetting my house for about 5 minutes before bed each night has made my mornings about 20 times more enjoyable because I don't have to worry about the dishes I don't have to worry about about where my clothes are I don't have to pick up first thing in the morning when I'm groggy I can
just do my morning routine and not think about anything which is the amount of thinking that i' like to do set yourself up for success with your technology if you have an Apple phone you have something called Focus mode turn that on so that only important people can get in contact with you and they don't screw up you trying to do like anything with constantly having text messages and phone calls and random stuff about politicians trying to get your vote don't do it if you have an Android I have something called bedtime where my phone
goes grayscale mode at like 7:00 at night so it makes using my phone like really annoying and I just stop using it cuz it's annoying you can set your phone on grayscale with apple as well just makes it way less addicting and if you do have social media still on your phone turn off all notifications you don't need to get every snap every Instagram story every whatever you have especially emails you don't need to answer stuff right away you're not that important that's something that I realized the hard way when I was checking email like
27 times a day nothing happens if I don't answer for for like a day sometimes a week I'm just not all that important but something that is important is swapping that habit because it's hard to just stop something and not fill it with something else so while maybe you're cutting out some of these negative Habits Like scrolling on your phones for hours every day try to find something positive to replace it with that's equally as addicting listening to a book learning a language getting way too much into making coffee or sourdough St a YouTube channel
anything just pick something else that's actually like a positive and helps yourself helps other people and is just scrolling or whatever your bad habit is playing phone games I literally used to be so addicted to this phone game I spent probably like $400 on this stupid game um in my late teens and ever since then I've realized that I am no longer allowed to have phone games on my phone my life has improved drastically because of that so if you're addicted to phone games don't be and maybe just cut them off like I literally can't
have it on my phone otherwise I will play it like 4 hours a day it's got to go turn off your phone about 30 minutes before bed I like to do closer to an hour my sleep improved I'm much less likely to Doom scroll or do all the things that I used all my self-control on throughout the day to not do I end up doing at night and then I sleep worse so plug it in Out Of Reach of your bed or wherever you are turn it off it only takes about 5 Seconds to make
that decision and it can literally Save hours of your life go all black I've changed out my clothes to only wearing black pants because you can't tell when you spill coffee on them which would never happen to me but just hypothetically they go with every color shirt I have made this with to everything black and I will never go back it's so much better same thing with t-shirts I wear black like 90% of the time it's just one less decision I have to make each day and like I already have so many decisions to make
I don't want have to think about what I'm wearing so I found something to fit well don't have to think about it anymore for everybody who always asks what shirt I'm wearing I pretty much exclusively wear Cuts they just fit really well they're nice quality they're definitely a little bit more expensive but I like this idea of less but better so if you do want to check them out there's a link down below with 15% off I guess another thing I do with my clothes I lay them out the night before so like in the
morning when I wake up I just like blindly grab my clothes I don't have to pick them out I don't have to find them nothing I just like grab them off the counter and go it's a small thing but I don't know it makes my morning better by the way if you're enjoying this Channel and getting any value at all it would mean a ton to me if you would drop a like And subscribe just don't watch the next show I literally cannot even tell you how much time this has saved me I've watched Friends
like three times the office a couple times parks and wreck like all those type of shows I've watched multiple times and I realized much like the addictive personality in the phone games I can't just watch a couple episodes and then like you know move on with my life if I start a show I will binge watch it whenever I have free time until I get through the show so if I watch something it's eight seasons of 20 episodes a season I will watch that so what's the solution never start the next show cancel some crap
on your calendar look at your calendar for the next week or the next month or the next year and find something on there to cancel maybe find a few things and you'll realize that you just saved yourself an hour 2 hours 5 hours by simply sending a text or an email or calling there's always things that we feel obligated to do and they suck up our mental energy and our physical energy and they're exhausting especially if you're an introvert like me so just practice saying no when people do ask you to do stuff like that
should be your default not yes being your default CU you feel guilty and then if you do have stuff that you guiltily said yes to go ahead and cancel it remind yourself of your goals regularly so that you can stay focused on what's important everybody fails their New Year's resolution cuz they make a goal and then they forget about it like 2 Days Later definitely a week later never happens for like an entire month go look at the gym like at the end of January and that's because we think of a goal that would be
cool it would change our life it would improve our life and then we just forget about it we don't write it down we don't put a sticky note on our mirror we don't put it in our Journal we forget about it so don't do that remind yourself I was not kidding about being gray look at that crazy wake up 5 minutes earlier literally 5 minutes if you're stressed in the morning rushing to get out to work you're always late you you never have time literally Waking Up 5 minutes earlier can reduce the stress of your
entire day I've started waking up at 5:45 every morning no matter what and I'm less tired and because of the next couple points which I'm going to tell you about I have more energy even though I never used to be a morning person I have no problem waking up and even early appointments of meeting people for breakfast I am never rushing it is so much better like how did it happen first of all I had to set myself uh a bed time it's about 9:00 I know it's not as exciting but I realized that everything
that happened after 9:00 was stally watching TV and wasting my life and everything that happened in the morning improved my life cuz it was like reading books and working so I shifted an hour of hurting my life to an hour of improving my life and guess what my life got better crazy huh another thing that I did is I put my phone over there right there so that when I'm in bed right here I have to go over there in order to turn my alarm off so I can't hit snooze since I made that change
I've literally never hit snooze again in the rest of my life and I don't wake up tired anymore cuz when you hit snooze and you go back to bed and then you actually end up being tired cuz you just slept for 5 more minutes it's a scam stop hitting snooze go put it over there put it in the other room put it far enough away that it's annoying but you can't get to it really quick make an ideas folder in your phone this is something that was kind of small but I have all these random
ideas at random times and I never used to write them down and I would forget them whether it was like a memory that I want to remember this memory this random thing that happened like my daughter freaking out about fish while we were looking for a couch or random ideas for YouTube videos like literally this idea just came from my notes folder write down more stuff that happens in your life so that you can remember important things and like most of them will be just completely stupid but some of them are actually pretty good worry
about your own plank I think this is in Matthew where he talks about worrying about the speck of sawdust in your neighbor's eye when you have a plank in your own eye this is the idea of always worrying about other people's problems or the country's problems your friends problems telling them what to do when you've got your own crap going on in your own life that you need to figure out so before you start telling other people what to do start trying to improve your own stuff are you also angry or jealous or hypocritical or
whatever it is so before you start talking about other people check in on yourself first all right these next few tips are for your finances uh I wasn't going to show my room cuz it looks like this right now this is my office also was Laura's bedroom tur it into a nice place to eventually shoot without running all over my house so yeah it's a little trash right now it's mostly tools but it's cool the first tip is to have a well-funded emergency fund this obviously has a bunch of practical reasons that we know about
like if goes wrong you won't get into debt you have flexibility just like a bunch of Common Sense reasons but the most important one for me is like peace of mind I don't have to stress anymore it's like a huge mental burden when you have a 3mon or 6 months of all your living expenses saved up an emergency fund you don't worry about things as much you don't worry about your job as much you don't worry about things going wrong you don't worry about having to replace part of your roof you don't worry about things
it improves so many areas of your life having a well funded emergency fund I personally keep mine in a bank account called Sofi it earns about 5% there's a link down below if you guys want to sign up it's what I personally use highly recommend it do not pick stocks I was thinking about going through and showing all my horrible stock picks that I've done it would be really embarrassing but I started out thinking I was smarter than everybody else trying to pick different stocks and a couple of them made a lot of money the
rest of them lost horribly and overall I pretty much exactly broke even or lost money trying to outsmart the market when the money that I put into the S&P 500 and vti which are just like basic index funds have well outperformed everything else there's a bunch of studies that people who pick stocks generally lose money people who invest into index funds for a long period of time generally make money I personally have been using Mumu you can get up to 15 free stocks when you open funded account it's super simple to use I just invest
in index funds if you guys want to check that out there's a link below and it does help support the channel when you use any of these links that I talk about because I'm trying to do less sponsored so it actually really helps both of us go paper list close accounts that you don't use put put all your bills on autopay these all involve doing onetime things that may take a minute to 10 minutes and then you never have to worry about it again you can check in on them but you stop getting paper clutter
ever having to worry about getting late fees just by doing onetime things avoid debt like the absolute plague that it is not all debt is bad for instance I have debt on my rental properties that I never want to pay off because I'm never actually paying for it the rents from the tenants are but when it comes to any type of high interest Consumer Debt the mental hold that that takes on you as well as like losing money and missing out on making money it's horrible so if you have debt that you're strapped in right
now make that a top priority you will feel so much better when you don't have that take Amazon off your phone if it's on your phone it shouldn't be unless you have really good self-control having things like Amazon or whatever you buy stuff on on your phone it's just asking for impulse buys like you see something you think about something you're like ah I'll get that you buy it when it shows up two days later you're like oh what did I get clearly you did not need that thing so make it harder for yourself and
I have no self-control so I took it off my phone question is do I just shoot into like the the decently clean quarter yeah we'll go this way find your freedom number this is the amount of money that you would need in order to never work again once you understand what this number is you have a clear goal of if I get to here I will be able to do whatever I want for the rest of my life and never have to worry about work again once you have that like you have so much Freedom
it's crazy the more you lower your expenses the sooner you'll be able to hit that number like if you need $10,000 a month it's going to take way longer than if you need $5,000 a month so that's why your savings rate is so important then you can either do one of two strategies where you try to save up enough money that you can live off the interest from that indefinitely Or you can try to start a business and start building up passive income on the side that you can live off that passive income instead of
an investment definitely that's why I love real estate but everybody has their own strategies couple of food hacks always have snacks now I know that that seems like nice to a lot of people if you're a snacker like me but I personally have been able to stay relatively healthy by always having relatively healthy snacks around if I have ice cream in the freezer I will eat that ice cream and I can't even have dairy but it takes a lot of self-control for me to not eat something that I like when it's in the house so
the trick is while I'm at the grocery store I don't buy that stuff I don't let Meredith buy that stuff because if it's in the house I will eat every last drop of it so instead if you want to lose weight it happens while you're shopping it doesn't happen when you're home it happens while you're shopping choose healthy foods choose healthy snacks so that you're not tempted to go out and get a $5 foot long always have something relatively healthy that you can snack on and you'll feel better and you will save money another random
thing is if you can have groceries delivered and it's like five bucks or 10 bucks but it saves you an hour would you trade an hour of your time for $5 or $10 if the answer is yes then maybe try doing that we've been doing it recently cuz it's so worth trading $5 to $10 which like if we go to the store we usually impulse buy more than $5 to $10 worth of stuff which you can literally do just buying salad and you can take that time and cook an extra meal or clean your house
or do whatever you want to do work from home if possible I know this is not possible for everybody and it actually took about 3 years of buying real estate and doing YouTube as a side hustle until I got between the two of those enough that I could leave my day job and just work from home but since I was able to leave my job meith was able to leave her job it has improved our lives so so much we don't have all that time spent driving that can be like an hour every day if
you live half an hour from work we don't have the expense of needing a second car we can spend more time together as a family it's cheaper you can write off part of your house if you work from home all this is a business expense there's so many amazing benefits that come from working for home so even if it's going to take you years to get there it's a really good goal for most people it's not for everybody but I've enjoyed it so so much don't let perfect be the enemy of good this is probably
why you don't accomplish all the things you want to do you don't start the business you don't go to the gym you don't write that book finish your art project project or you know whatever it is and I used to do this all the time it's cuz you want the the perfect name you need it to be perfectly done you want to wait to start writing until you're at that coffee shop in the morning things will never be perfect sometimes you need to get it to 90% to 95% where it's like it's good enough and
you just get it out there and move on to the next thing you don't have to have perfect form and know how to use everything at the gym you need to consistently go to the gym that's what's going to help you you don't have to have the perfect diet all the time you need to eat less calories than you burn and you will lose weight even if it's Donuts you probably feel horrible but generally most things are simple but we try to over complicate it so much we have this perfectionism and we just need to
make progress that's all it is this video is not perfect my room's not perfect but I made a video today and I didn't wait until my room was totally done I didn't wait till things were perfectly organized I didn't I don't know maybe it wouldn't better but I got it done and I'm happy with it and I had fun and maybe it helped somebody and if you want to help me uh you know subscribe check out one of the links below that actually uh really helps the channel and you can get some free stuff I
think I even have a link for these these panels they're so cool I love them I appr sh all you guys and I'll see you next week
