before I came to Korea I used to dress like this this and this I know it's not terrible but I just never look that good now I think I dress better without even trying and it's thanks to some of the weirdest Korean fashion tips that are actually pretty common knowledge if you apply some of the principles I'm about to share with you it will level up your style instantly let's get into it the first Korean concept that I learned from a Korean fashion Creator is tone on tone versus tone in tone tone in tone is
when you match the same color but in different fortitude and saturations imagine you're dressing mostly in blueish tones but you have a strong blue like Navy and then light blue is the best example charcoal and black green tones these are all in the same family but with different levels of saturation fortitude and this is a game changer if you just apply this where like let's say you're getting dressed you're wearing some gray pants you're like okay what did why he say different fortitude of the same color so gray I'm going to go black charcoal black
shoes boom you look good oh you know what I'm going to go Indigo jeans with light blue shirt boom you're good tone on tone is when you match different colors of the same tone of the same saturation and fortitude and that's going to give you that kind of like really really distinct fashion icon look I know what I'm doing you're going to stand out like a sore thumb but in a good way but it's hard to get this right because if you're just off a little bit if you got this like pale situation going with
this really strong situation then it can kind of just look really unbalanced so apply this Korean tip to construct your outfit next the Korean concept called Point po literally is the English word point and the point is basically an accent a little cherry on top the one thing that accentuates your outfit in a different way and draws attention to it so let's say you're wearing all black but your socks are orange the point in this situation the accent is the orange socks and people will be drawn to it and not necessarily because you're like oh
look at my orange socks but it's just going to have that element of like the orange shines more because it's constructed in a way where that is the point maybe you got this like semiformal wear but you got like casual sporty shoes and it's these kind of playful little things where you do something a little bit different that draws attention to that thing it could be a design on your T-shirt or a design on your cap but imagine if you had the design on the cap design on the T-shirt design on your pants then what's
the point I don't know cuz you have three different points think of it like that then people don't know if you're trying to do this or this or this the concept of point it could be with materials it could be with color it could be with fit it could be with the mood it could be with casual versus formal it could be with an item itself it could be a multitude of things but this idea of ACC accentuating your outfit with that little X Factor and if you have too many then it loses its power
next the Korean concept ofo versus go and C okay the first one go is trying and looking like you're trying and go and go is trying but not looking like you're trying if somebody dresses well but it's very obvious to you that they put in all kinds of effort they got up early they painted themselves they just did all this pretty working stuff and he just spent his whole life thinking about what he's going to wear tomorrow and he dressed well you show up you look at the guy you're like bro you know like well
done you dress well but he doesn't really look like he dresses well do you know what I mean he just tried a bit too hard you're trying to get my validation whereas somebody that looks like they didn't even try that just stumbled out of bed that kind of just like threw on whatever he could find but just looks like it just looks right boom that's it that's the look you're going for understand that the more you look like you've coordinated your outfit to impress other people the less impressive it's going to be so how does
that manifest in real situations let's say we use the concept of point and you wanted to wear orange socks and you're like I'm going to match my orange socks with like my orange cap and everything else is black and it's the point is the color you're going to look better than just just normal cuz you know what you're doing but it's it just looks a bit try hard it just looks like you just did that to just you just tried too hard and therefore Things Fall Apart as opposed to a guy that just like wears
a Navy hoodie that maybe doesn't have like all this like fancy stuff but it's just like a normal Navy hoodie and he just wore some black shorts and some like black shoes and he can look really good because it just it just looks like he didn't try but he he just just doesn't look wrong it looks right for the occasion next pan which is like on expected charm let's say you're in a class and there are people in the class and you go in the class you're listening to the lectures and you always dress in
like your normal just like black sweatshirt black jeans and you're just there t-shirt who who dresses up to go to lectures in a in a uni or like you know to the office you just wear the same old stuff like you're just trying to get to work like look at this like I'm just this is my work so I just dress a black T-shirt but then let's say one day I just a random Thursday instead of being in the same thing that you wear it's something different like it doesn't have to be a suit it
could be like something just different different style you were all like just black and then suddenly you all color you were all like casual but suddenly you all formal you see the guy or the girl like just completely in a different setting and it kind of shows you a different side to their personality someone that seems so cold and unapproachable suddenly looks so like cozy and nice so it's this like twisting this unexpected Spin and this is what in in Korea they call PanAm marok it's what girls say they fall for in guys when they
just be rolling up normal and then one day was out they look different use this to your advantage don't overdo it obviously next in Korea in Japan people wear black and white quite a lot and the idea is black and white are half colors everything else is one color and as a fashion newbie you should never dress more than three colors so let's see what I'm wearing now see that was black and gray I'm wearing 0.5 color gray is one color so I'm wearing 1.5 colors so it looks good it looks good it looks fine
black and gray just looks fine when you go out on the street look at people and you'll realize that people that wear Too Many Colors they just look disjointed they look like it's overdone obviously shades of the same color like different shades of green can you can kind of call it one color and stuff like this but you want to use black and white a lot because they provide like that clean canvas upon which you can put splashes of color and it will look good if you want to watch me like dissect that three-color rule
check out this video next the last point is to learn a little bit about what's going on in terms of the trends in terms of what's kind of popping right now and then put your own spin on it so if everybody in the world is wearing Adidas sambas or whatever like if you just wear the Adidas Samba then you just become that guy you're just the same as everyone else the same try hard guy guy I don't like this maybe this is just my personality but you also don't want to be just like wearing skinny
jeans when everybody else has moved on from skinny jeans right so learn a little bit about the trends and Korea I think is a little bit too much in this bracket where everybody's following the same Trend everyone suddenly wears the same clothes so you want to kind of understand the trends and have the courage to put your own spin on it and if you do all those things that we talked about in this video that's the way to level up your fashion see you in the next video
