you about now this is a very standard way of introducing yourself and your topic and it's perfectly okay however often your audience will already know who you are and what your topic is if you want to make your intro a little different or more interesting check out my other lesson four ways to make your presentation more interesting you should find the link somewhere here on the screen and now let's get back to some other things you might want to do in your introduction before beginning with your first main point it can be a good idea
to let your audience know what the structure of your presentation is i'm going to focus on or look at or deal with three main points or i've divided my presentation into three main parts first of all i'll talk about second we'll look at and finally i'll explain or i'll show you or i'll tell you about if your audience doesn't know how long the presentation is going to be let them know my presentation will take about and it can also be helpful to let them know when they can ask questions if you have a strict time
limit and you don't want to be interrupted you can say something like this there'll be plenty of time for questions at the end of my presentation or i'd appreciate it if you could leave any questions you may have until the end of my presentation on the other hand if you want to be flexible and welcome questions at any time you could say something like this if you have any questions during the presentation feel free to interrupt at any time great so you've made your introduction and now it's time to start with the main part or
the body of your presentation and this is where sign posting phrases can be very useful these are phrases we use to guide our audience through our presentation to let them know when we want to introduce a new topic when we're finished with a topic and when we want to continue with the next one introducing your first point i'd like to begin by telling you or showing you and so on it's important here to follow begin by with a gerund with the in form or let's start with or so let's get started so is a very
short and simple word but it's a very effective way to get your audience's attention finishing one topic so that covers everything i want to say about or that concludes my first or that concludes my second topic and continuing with another now let's move on to my next topic which is or let's turn now to or moving on to and if you want to show your audience some information on graphs or charts the following phrases should be quite helpful as you can see on this chart or take a look at this chart or this graph clearly
shows or this graph highlights the importance of sometimes it's important to go into more detail let's have a look at a couple of ways we can do this let me expand on this point or i'd like to elaborate on this point for a few minutes it's also very important to remind your audience about the purpose of your presentation why it's important and why it's relevant as i said at the beginning or this relates to what i was saying earlier or this ties in with what i said at the start of my talk or at the
start of my presentation if something ties in with something else it means the two things are connected excellent now let's think about the last part of the presentation here we usually summarize the main points give a conclusion or a final message thank the audience and invite them to ask questions summarizing so that brings me to the end of my presentation we looked at three main points first i showed you or i spoke about followed by a one or two sentence summary of the key information from this topic then we looked at again followed by a
one to two sentence summary and finally i explained or i told you about and once again a short summary concluding to conclude i'd like to say or before we finish i'd like to leave you with one final thought thanking the audience and inviting them to ask questions thank you very much for your attention or for your time or thank you for listening if you have any questions i'd be happy to answer them now so that brings us to the end of this lesson i hope you found it helpful and i hope you can practice using
some of those phrases in your next presentation and by the way if there are any other areas of business english i can help you with let me know in the comments and i'll do my best to cover those topics in upcoming lessons if you like this lesson hit the like button and share with your friends and colleagues subscribe to my channel if you haven't done that already and join my email list every two weeks i send out my free vocabulary email with additional business english words from the news and everyday english for you to learn
