We talk, we laugh, we. . .
we laugh, we cry, we scream. And all of that with our voice, right? But you can sing too.
And if you want to sing, you're in the right place. Hello, everyone. How are you?
I'm Nina Guimarães, a singing instructor at Cifra Club. Look, to start singing, first you need to know a little bit about how your instrument works, which is your voice. You need to know that we have three important parts to work on.
Breathing, vocal folds, and resonance, which will involve articulation, cavities, nasal and oral. The purpose of the respiratory system is to compress the air that will come out of the lungs, it will generate an air flow that will press the vocal folds, producing a sound through their vibration, and finally, it will echo in the vocal tract. Phew!
Now you know how the voice is produced. Let's understand better how to start working on your singing voice. First, you need to relax your whole body.
Let's stretch, especially the neck and head area, to relieve any type of muscle tension. Yes, we count with the whole body. Stretching exercises.
Repeat with me the stretches, always counting 3 seconds. Repeat with me. Repeat with me.
Repeat with me. Repeat with me. Now let's start working on our breathing and controlling the air flow.
The singer's breathing is in the abdomen. We should not breathe as in everyday life. Breathing exercises.
Let's do some breathing exercises. Stand up, put your hands on your ribs, and let all the air out through your mouth. Now, breathe as if you were sucking a spaghetti, and hold the air in there for 5 seconds.
Then, let all the air out. Do this process 5 times until you feel the opening of your ribs working. Be careful!
As we are working with air pressure, it is common for us to get a little dizzy. So, if you start to feel unwell, stop right away and drink some water. Now, let's do the same process, but let's let all the air out with the sound of S, pushing the navel in.
It is important to keep the ribs open. Got it? Let's do it 5 times.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in.
Breathe out. Breathe in. Wonderful!
You have already started your process as a singer. Now, we need to define the regions and heights of the sounds. We have 3 main regions.
The low, the middle and the high. When I am in a low region, I can feel my chest vibrate. And when I am in a high region, I can feel my voice floating in my head.
And when I am in a middle region, it is similar to the voice. Let's do some vocal exercises now. Breathe in by sucking the noodles, and expanding the ribs and singing the vowel A in the low, high and middle regions, holding each one for 4 seconds.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in.
Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in.
Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.
Breathe in. Breathe out. You can practice like this with the songs you like to hear and sing.
It is not enough just to sing. We need to have some vocal care. Drnk plenty of water, don't scream around, have a balanced diet, avoiding fatty and codimented foods, especially close to singing, and have good nights of sleep and do a physical activity to improve your conditioning.
If you feel hoarse for more than a week, or feel that your voice is a little hoarse, or with a different sensation, both in the speech and in the singing, look for an audiologist and an otolaryngologist to identify how your vocal health is. If you feel the need to practice any other specific technique for you, look for a singing teacher and be careful not to get hurt. Remembering that we have a singing course with more in-depth content at Cifra Club Academy.
