aware of the surroundings the weather And the emotions bubbling up as you reach the house first just take a brief moment to examine it from the outside noticing what the house is made of and any notable features enter the house and discover a room that symbolizes the childhood conditions you grew up in and which gave rise ultimately to challenges in adulthood this room might symbolize both the general conditions of your upbringing or any specific instances that left a lasting impact feel the atmosphere and notice any distinctive objects Decor features or any other elements that catch
your attention let the room reveal its stories and memories in its own way now in this space Your Shadow child begins to form this is the aspect of your inner child that carries the weight of suppressed parts and perhaps even past traumas approach the shadow child with compassion and notice their appearance and demeanor how do they appear notice their behavior or posture notice what kind of expression they hold you're going to engage the shadow child in conversation and ask them a series of questions as you ask these questions simply see how the shadow child responds
they might respond in words or they might respond through their behavior you can also respond to the shadow child however you need to observing their reactions and allowing the conversation to unfold naturally you're first going to ask about your childhood conditions ask the shadow child can you describe the conditions of your early years what was your world like what are some memories or moments that stand out to you from that time we're now going to ask the shadow child how they adapted and what defense mechanisms might have been learned ask them in difficult times how
did you protect yourself what were your safe havens or coping strategies were there moments when you felt you had to hide or change who you were we're now going to ask them about aspects of the true self that were're not allowed to flourish ask the shadow child were their dreams desires or aspects of yourself that you couldn't Express or pursue can you tell me about them what parts of you feel suppressed or unacknowledged how did that make you feel we're now going to ask the shadow child questions around our challenges in present life ask them
when you think about my life now what moments or situations remind you of your past are there any specific things that happen now that make you feel like you did back then how do you think your experiences and feelings from the past are showing up in my life today in what ways do you feel my current emotions or challenges are connected to your story we're now going to ask the shadow chars what they need now for healing ask them what do you need most right now how can I support you in healing what would help
you to feel seen heard and acknowledged what does integration look like to you and now taking on board the shadow child's responses offer them now what you feel they need it might be by way of a symbolic gift or an action or words watch how they receive it and notice the transformation how does their appearance change or their expression or behavior how do you change and how does the room around you and the house transform allow this process to unfold in whatever way it needs to and give your imagination free reign to show you what
it means to no longer need to defend or hide Your Shadow child Express gratitude now to your Shadow child for their courage and insights and assure them of your continued work towards integration and you may wish to journal this experience after the exercise so just allowing the imagery to fade now and bring your attention back to the space around you noticing any sounds or Sensations taking a deep breath and opening your eyes again in your own time
