in 1907 a single father and Wealthy Aristocrat Henry child from Royal Limington Spa England moved to a largest state and mansion in Virginia with his two young children Maryann age 11 and Jonathan nine for the first year they were allowed to run and play throughout the entire house then suddenly one day the door to the South Corridor was closed and locked Maryann asked their father why it was locked and his response was just stay away from there is that understood over the next few months their lives were turned upside down spiraling into madness this is
a story Maryann told her grown children One Night in the winter of 1968 what I'm about to tell you will be hard to believe and I'm the last person alive who knows it you'll also have to forgive my timelines if I make a mistake as it's been a long time my mother died when I was six I still have a few vague memories of her looking down at me smiling she was a beautiful woman as you've seen from her paintings and a sweet woman from what father told us after she died father told Jonathan and
I he went deep into despair almost healing himself multiple times he said the thought of leaving us orphan was the only thing stopping him one day out of the blue he left us in the care of a nanny he was gone for 2 years before returning home never telling us where he went or what he did when he returned he told us we were moving to America Virginia to be exact when I asked him why he only looked at me then walked away without answering I assumed it was because of mother dying and him wanting
a change so he could move on I remember well the day we left England it was a dark and rainy day I was sad to be leaving my friends and what I'd known the house we lived in also carried the memories of my mother the long journey to America was dismal father kept mostly to himself as us kids became close to our Nanny Edith in some way she replaced some Mother we'd lost when we finally made it to Virginia the seemed to brighten up some at least for a while I remember seeing the estate and
Mansion for the first time and thinking how big everything was to Jonathan and I it was a giant playground and we explored every inch of it we would play hideand-seek and other games throughout the entire mansion and grounds about a year later during the summer I was chasing my brother through the house towards the South Corridor when we came to the door and unbeknownst to us it was shut and locked my first thought was this is strange as the only door that was ever shut un locked was my father's bedroom and that was only if
he was in it other than that all the doors remained open for the most part we continued playing not giving it much thought until we were sitting down for dinner I remember asking him father why is the door shut and locked to the South Corridor it was then I saw a sight of him I'd never seen before his reply caught me off guard as he snapped at me making me cry just stay away from there is that understood he said my brother and I bowed our heads and noded noded we understood after that whenever we'd
run through the house we'd stop by the door and just stand there staring at it my imagination would go wild imagining what was behind there about a month later I think it was I was sound asleep when I was awakened to someone walking down the hallway past my room I sat up and asked aloud father is that you yes Maryanne go back to sleep he replied I'm not sure why I did what I did next I think it was curiosity but I quietly slipped out of bed walked to the doorway and stuck my head out
I could see he was heading down towards a South Corridor which for some unknown reason i' suspected he was I was always good at sneaking around and being quiet as I darted from hiding place to hiding place before unlocking the door and entering the room he turned looked around and almost spotted me but I was too quick when he shut the door I tiptoed up to it putting my ear against it it was quiet for some time then I heard a strange man's voice say two prop Paris ad mortum which I understood because I'd been
schooled in Latin since I was young it means you are hastening to death as I heard that I froze and the hair on my arms stood on end I thought who is that it doesn't sound like my father I wasn't sure what to do so I ran back to bed as quietly as I could when I jumped in I hid under my blanket laying there paralyzed with fear not sleeping a wink that night father wasn't at breakfast the following morning and and Edith seemed to be troubled by something I asked her what was wrong she
only smiled as she gave me a hug and said nothing my sweet child that day as we played I purposely stayed away from the south Corridor around noon my father emerged from his room yelled at us to be quiet then went back in and closed the door I remember looking at his face and thinking something was different with him now little did I know I'd be seeing less of him with each passing day also from time to time I would catch a glimpse of Edith sliding notes under his bedroom door I never asked her about
it but later figured out what she was doing a couple of days later around the same time as a few nights before I again heard my father emerge from his bedroom and head swiftly towards the South Corridor this time though I waited until I heard the door shut and lock before going into the hallway and up to the door when I made it there there was a long silence than what sounded like struggling and mumbling I then heard my father say B y Estus to propis ad morm which means blessed are ye you are hastening
to death the strange voice I'd heard before then said hul Pella a receive this girl and what sounded like someone getting hit right after that I heard the sound of footsteps on the hardwood floor coming towards the door I weled around and took off running hiding behind a sofa just down the hallway I peered around the bottom as I saw my father's head stick out of the door I H held my breath praying he wouldn't come or he'd for sure find me after what seemed like an eternity he went back in as I exhaled a
sigh of relief I laid there for some time afraid to get up even though I knew he could come in any second I couldn't sleep that night either as a craziest thoughts raised through my head what scared me the most was a strange man's voice I also kept thinking about the words they both said and wondered why they were speaking Latin the following morning during breakfast Edith said nothing only staring into the abyss as she ate Jonathan paid no attention to how she was acting and went on like everything was normal which back then I
thought was a good thing I knew something very wrong was going on though that day I made sure we were playing outside the last thing I wanted was to be inside after we've been playing for a few hours Jonathan said he needed to use the toilet and went inside while I waited a little while later he came running across the grass I can still picture him in my mind as he shouted out in horror Maryanne Maryanne come quick something's wrong I dropped the ball we'd been playing with and ran towards the house as I followed
him as I ran I was thinking it had something to do with father in the South Corridor but he ran towards Edith's room instead I could see her room's door was open as I approached when I made it to the doorway I was shocked to see her kneeling down on the floor in front of a large Cross I'd never seen before her arms were covered in blood as she sliced at her wrists repeating the same thing over and over again parse Mii de parse Mii deas God spare me without thinking I ran to Father's room
shouting as I banged on the door father father come quick Edith is hurting herself I then heard him coming towards the door as he opened the door and looked down at me there was a rage in his eyes like I just interrupted something of great importance I cowered as I backed up giving him room he then turned and started quickly walking towards her room I stood there debating whether or not I wanted to follow him but remembered my brother was still there so I went before I made it to the room I heard father yell
Get Out Boy Jonathan came scurrying out with a look of tear on his face father went inside the room turned glared at us for a second then slammed the door I grabbed my brother by the hand and said let go outside as we hurly left what's going on with Edith and why has been acting so strange he asked I don't know brother I truly don't I replied we never saw Edith or father the rest of the day I cooked us a small dinner that evening then had Jonathan sleep in my room the following morning Edith
was already in the kitchen cooking breakfast and her arms were bandaged up she looked at us and smiled as we sat down at the table good morning my loves she said as she served us up food like nothing had happened everything went back to normal over the next week except for father he continued coming out of his room every night and going to the South Corridor I decided to stay in bed and not follow him as I didn't want to risk getting caught for fear of how we'd react I'm not sure what day it was
but we were outside playing hide and seek I was hiding under a bush when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye I looked over towards the house and could see father on top of the roof walking towards the edge once there he looked down as I screamed out father no don't I jumped up and ran towards the house to get Edith I went to the kitchen first as it was almost lunchtime and found her sitting in the chair staring at the wall Edith Edith help father was on the roof about to jump
I screamed she just sat there not moving it was like she was in some sort of a trance I screamed at her several more times and again nothing I ran over and began shaking her but she still wouldn't look at me it was then I noticed something carved on the table it was the same words I'd heard her saying when I found her cutting her wrists parse Mii deas I decided to go myself to see if I could help him so I ran upstairs towards the attic assuming that's where he'd gotten out on the roof
as I passed his room I could see his door was wide open which it never was when I came to the attic the window was open and I wasted no time climbing out the roof to the mansion was big and had a small tile walkway which made it easy to walk on as I quickly moved along trying to keep my balance as I turned the corner coming to the spot where I'd last seen him my heart sank he was not there I screamed out no as tears welled up in my eyes when I made it
to the edge where he'd been I looked down fully expecting him to be lying there but couldn't believe it he wasn't I felt relieved but also troubled by everything that was happening I thought about going to get help but our closest neighbor was far at least it was for me back then father was would also get infuriated if I involve strangers in our personal affairs when I made it back inside I decided to check his room as I turned the corner going into the hallway I could see his door was now shut I walked up
to it and contemplated whether or not I should knock or call out to him to see if he was all right I decided to do neither I went back outside to find Jonathan who was most likely still looking for me I also decided not to say anything to my brother about it what good would it do anyway when I came outside I spotted my brother across the way heading towards the old worn down horse stable father had recently warned us not to play in I shouted out to him but he was too far away and
couldn't hear me I knew what would happen if he went inside and got caught so I ran as fast as I could shouting out to him as I ran about halfway there I saw him go inside fear struck me like a punch in the gut when I made it to the fence I heardly climbed over over it and ran to the door he'd gone in luckily for me he was too afraid to go further in and was still standing just inside the entrance calling out my name I grabbed his arm scolding him idiot what are
you doing if father catches you in here it'll be the switch for both of us don't be mad I looked everywhere and couldn't find you this was the last place I needed to check he replied I said nothing as we climbed back over the fence and made our way to the house it was past lunchtime and we were both starving I was worried Edith was still sitting in the chair and hoped she'd come to her senses or at least left as we walked into the kitchen I was relieved to see she was gone so I
started preparing us something to eat as I was cutting through some bread Jonathan asked me Maryanne what does this mean who put this here as he pointed to the words that have been carved on the table even though I knew I lied and said I'm not sure he brushed it off and went on to the next subject talking about what we were going to do after eating after lunch we played outside until dark I then made dinner and had him sleep in my room again on the way to my room we passed Edith's room and
like I suspected the door was shut he asked me if she was all right to which I replied yes brother she's just not feeling well he was used to not seeing father much never really asking about him but not seeing Edith was making him worried I'm certain certain he thought about father but chose to focus on other things to take his mind off of it two days went by where we didn't see either of them I'd go on about the day like nothing was out of the ordinary I'd make us food we'd play take baths
then go to bed on the third day when I woke up and went to use the toilet I noticed both their doors were wide open and thought they must be eating breakfast I went and woke up my brother for breakfast who was still asleep in my bed when we made it to the kitchen I was surprised to see neither of them were there and it was exactly how I left it the night before I figured they were both in the South Corridor and I wasn't about to go bother them I didn't voice my concerns and
went on about making breakfast the rest of the day was like the previous ones we played ate then went to bed when it got dark the entire day I wondered what they could possibly be doing and it terrified me I made the decision if we didn't see them the following day we'd walk to the nearest neighbor's house and and asked for help that night as I was sleeping I was awakened at the sound of someone walking down the hallway I sat up in bed trembling almost calling out to see if it was father but was
too afraid when I heard the South Corridor door being unlocked and opened I figured it must be him so I slipped out of bed being careful not to wake Jonathan and headed down the hallway as I got within a few feet I could see the door was slightly open I reached out to grab it so I could slowly open it when when I pulled my arm back I was torn whether or not I should go in or leave well enough alone and just go back to bed in my mind I've never been brave but for
some reason I grabbed the door and began slowly opening it the corridor was not long before it opened into a large room as I crept along I saw a candle on the floor in front of me on the far side of the room when I reached the corner that would take me into the entire room I stopped and took a deep breath before proce seating as I took a step forward I whispered to myself it's all right Maryanne what I saw as I turned the corner has tormented me every day of my life my father
was standing there but next to him was a bald man wearing a black robe with the sideways cross on it holding a book what I saw on the ground though took my breath away as I gasped for air on the ground were the bodies of two women one was the naked body of Edith she had been open from her groin all the way up to her chest the other body looked old and shriveled but the dress she was wearing looked very familiar to me I was about to run out of the room when the shriveled
old body sat up and turned to look at me it was then I recognized who it was it was my dead mother I shrieked and turned to run when the bald man dropped the book and started coming towards me my father shouted out Alister no I could hear his footsteps on the hardwood floor coming towards me as I ran through the corridor pass the door slamming it behind me I then ran to my room to grab Jonathan when I made it to my bed I grabbed him by the arm literally pulling him off the bed
screaming let's go now we're in danger he said something but I don't remember what I was too scared and focused on getting out of the house we didn't look behind us as we ran down the hallway that led to the backyard we flung the doors open ran to the road then down to our closest neighbor which was at least a mile away when we came to their house we screamed as we pounded on the door until they let us in I told him everything that happened the father of the house then hastily left to go
fetch the police I never saw my father again we later found out the notes Edith was slipping under my father's door was her helping him with whatever he was doing but then ultimately becoming a victim herself several hours after Mar and Jonathan left their house the police arrived they did a search of the entire premises but never found the father Henry child the man named Al or the dead body of their mother they did find Edith in the room her heart had been removed what was more disturbing was what they found in the horse barn
inside were the bodies of Six Women each one had been crucified on the wall and their hearts had been removed as well since Maran and Jonathan had no family to speak of in America the neighbors they'd ran to for help took them in and raised them the horse barn was torn down and the house was cleaned up and sold the following year for more scary horror stories please subscribe
