[Music] pay is one of our greatest teachers in the midst of suffering some give up and some persevere and look for a match in a pitch black tunnel this was the realization for a Supercar manufacturer in its infancy solely supported by a single model offered to the public and its incubator was consumed in a vable of Hil the probability of full recovery in an already Cutthroat industry as building supercars was near zero and the table that seated the greats like Ferrari Lamborghini Pagani and McLaren was full the final chapter of a childhood dream seemed near for a young Swedish CEO named Christian von Kix EG but the show must go on and it did From the Ashes arose not a proverbial Phoenix but a ghost an apparition made of carbon and titanium and with an appetite for hydrocarbons in 2 years the scoff and dismiss kic egg goes from a company with an unclear future to producing the world's fastest superar dethroning the almighty McLaren F1 it was a chapter in history that no one could have foreshadowed an ambitious entrepreneur with no background in Motorsports or racing pedigree built not only a car but the car the car of all cars this is the story of Kix a company that didn't get a seat at the table amongst the greats so they just made their own table instead there's three truths in this world death taxes and Italians know how to build a super [Music] car in the early '90s the majority of supercars that you could blow your newly found inheritance on came from one place mon Italy similar to the rich soils between the Tigers and Euphrates rivers that was the cradle of civilization ma is the Cradle of the Supercar and no one could do it better than [Applause] them Ferrari had the F40 a 200 mph capable twin turbo V8 powered roll car that didn't compromise any performance for comfort [Applause] a tractor company building supercars known as Lamborghini had the Diablo a naturally aspirated V12 powered rocket ship that had doors that hinged the wrong way and named after fighting bulls while Porsche did have a Supercar car that was without a doubt the most advanced in the world the Porsche 959 the 959 was more a technical Marvel and engineering ing spectacle rather than the traditional Supercar formula Italy was the reigning champ of outlandish four-wheeled machines well until across the pond the Brits had a go at it riding the momentum of consecutive Formula 1 championship wins McLaren's Executives wanted to incorporate Formula 1 engineering into to a road car devoid of compromises and purely a driver's dream under the prototype name xp1 technical director Gordon Murray and his team of Engineers would design a road car that benchmarked of all cars the Honda NSX for chassis handling its stability since the NSX was fine-tuned by the legendary McLaren Formula 1 driver Martin CNA Honda refused to help build the XP 1's engine leading to BMW's Motorsport division to pick up the torch and build a 60 de Bank angle V12 that was all aluminum 12 individual throttle bodies 24 fuel injectors variable valve timing and north of 600 [Applause] horsepower the new McLaren F1 rad car had all the right boxes checked a six-speed manual transmission a Centerline driving position like the Grand Prix car a featherweight carbon fiber monoco 16 g of gold leaf lining the in Bay and at release was the fastest car in the world period 390 390 391 the world was put on notice that not only Italy's Finest could build world class performers but also the likes of the British with the McLaren F1 and even Jaguar with the xj220 this prompted an unlikely figure to enter the Supercar arms race a young 22-year-old Swedish entrepreneur financially backed by a loan from the Swedish board for technical development and Crosshair set on the McLaren F1 their first prototype to CC or competition Coupe was nothing short of ambitious a mid-engine Supercar with a 600 horsepower Target output a carbon fiber monoco chassis similar to the F1 and silhouette being the vision of one man MrKix egg himself the CC prototype xp1 was developed around Audi's 4. 2 L V8 and Trans actual architecture but when Audi got word that Kix egg would be tuning the engines to double the factory output they would decline the supply them with more V8s leading to Kix egg briefly partnering with motori mni for their Flat 12 Formula 1 engine called the Subaru 1235 shortly after the partnership the founder of matori madery died tumbling the company into bankruptcy leaving Kix egg with two engines and again without an engine supplier the decision was made to use Forge relatively new dual overhead cam modular V8 architecture found in their SVT Cobra since the aluminum blocks were cast in Italy by Texas who also supplied Ferrari with castings and was an extremely robust design that could be tuned without much issue to achieve the 600 plus horsepower Target the 4. 6 L V8 was bored to 4.
7 L and accompanied by a centrifugal supercharger which was a unique alternative to Twin turbocharging unlike the laggy turbocharger designs of the late '90s a centrifugal supercharger is directly connected to the crankshaft and as RPM increases so does the output of charge air from the compressor giving the module V8 a linear predictable Power Band similar to a naturally aspirated engine but the same Peak output of a turbocharged engine the Pistons were forged the connecting rods were made out of titanium it had a dry sump lubrication carbon fiber on the valve covers and 655 brake horsepower to accompany the 6B manual transaxle the CC prototype was now called the cc8s the 8 indicating 8 cylinders and S for supercharge and after eight grueling years of development it was ready for the hands of the public the cc8s was groundbreaking as a first attempt from a unknown manufacturer from the land of Volvos and Ikea but it wasn't impervious to criticism the popular publication Auto Zen stated if you give it an AMG v12 and more Adventure styling it could jump to the top of the super SuperCard chart but then it would need to be renamed a Pagani giving like to the understated design language contrary to its Italian counterparts even the father of the McLaren F1 Gordon Murray was highly critical of kic EG saying in an EVO magazine interview that kic egg doesn't count since production numbers were so low and Mrkic Egg shouldn't have shouted his mouth off with claims before he built the car kic seg held its ground and even planned a successor to the cc8s one that would cast out all doubt that kic egg was just expensive Vapor Weare but then disaster struck a Saturday afternoon at Kix Egg Factory on February 2003 was like any else cold and full of customer cars being assembled the fch roof of the historic 200-year-old building would ignite without warning quickly consuming The Archives of Mrkix's childhood sketches and blueprints of engines all being drawn by hand the partly assembled cars and tooling were saved but kic egg was now without a factory and dead in the water to produce supercars the decision was made to abandon the burnt facility and move operations to an abandoned jet hanger and Runway that was formerly home of the oldest aircraft Squadron in Sweden the F10 ghosts they got their name from residents who only ever heard their Jets but never saw them as the Squadron would take off on missions at dusk and land after dark one of their Saab 37 vegan Jets was embellished with white ghosts in the English phrase The Show Must Go On but where their show ended a year prior kic eggs would begin once more and to commemorate the Squadron the ghost Insignia would find a new home on the successor of the cc8s the next kic egg would follow the same philosophy the design was identical apart from a larger splitter and reshaped headlights it could easily be mistaken for the older model except for one one thing the power the 4. 7 L Ford modular based engine now had an additional supercharger yes two centrifugal superchargers on one single engine with boost pressure increased to 1. 4 bar and power jumped to 817 brake horsepower from 655 two 2 years and 6 days after the infamous fire that claimed kixx facility their new CCR would enact revenge on Fate on February 28th 2005 the CCR would break the top speed record held by the McLaren F1 at 387.
