if I had told you 15 years ago that a Wi-Fi signal and a smartphone would do more damage to Islam than a thousand Crusades you'd probably laugh me out of the room but here I am an ex-muslim who found Freedom bacon bee and existential crisis thanks to the internet turns out it's not the devil who's the biggest villain in Islam story it's your phone in this video I'll show you why a Wi-Fi connection has become Islam's ultimate Kryptonite now you may think surely that's not true but what the internet is doing to Islam Today has
actually happened before let me take you back to the 15th century Europe to be exact a German dude named Johannes Gutenberg inits the printing press suddenly priests lose their Monopoly on the Bible for centuries the Church Controlled axis interpreting scripture in Latin essentially gatekeeping salvation the printing press changed all that the Bible was translated into local languages and Ordinary People could read it for the first time and what did they find contradiction corruption and rules that didn't quite align with the church's teachings enter Martin Luther a monk and theologian who wasn't thrilled with the church
selling indulgences basically a get out of hell card for a fee his 95 PES called out this corruption arguing that salvation came through fate not cashed with the printing press his ideas spread like wildfire across Europe making the church's control over religious thought impossible to maintain the result the Protestant Reformation a tidal wave of new denomination debates and dissenters questioning the church's Authority this shattered the Monopoly on spiritual truth and shifted Europe towards individual interpretation and critical thinking the printing press turned out to be a weapon of mass deconstruction for centuries old religious Dogma as
more people read the Bible for themselves many started to question not just the church but the foundations of Christianity itself faith became personal and decentralized breaking the church's Monopoly on salvation and morality with that the one unshakable authority of religious institutions started to crumble the enlightenment followed a period when science philosophy and reason began to take Center Stage the result growing skepticism of religion as a whole and the rise of secularism in Europe over the centuries this strange snowboard leading to societies where e religion not Christianity became the dominant worldview in many countries in places
like Sweden France and the UK religious adherance is now at historic lows with vast majorities identifying as atheist agnostic or spiritual but not religious it didn't happen overnight but the printing press lit the spark that set this transformation in motion but Christianity had a head start on Islam Muhammad came onto the scene in the 7th Century claiming Divine revelations in a cave near Mecca and let's be honest he essentially copy pasted elements of Judaism and Christianity into the framework of an Arabian Haan belief system monism that came straight from the Jewish and Christian playbooks the
idea of prophets a rerun just with Muhammad Kasa as a grand finale man truly had main character syndrome amongst other issues even many quranic stories like Adam and Eve Noah's Ark and Moses parting the sea were lifted with slight edits to fit the Arabian narrative but unlike Christianity which had centuries to adapt to modernity and face challenges like the enlightenment Islam has largely avoided that Reckoning through Empires caliphates and strict clerical control it maintained a tighter grip on interpretation and Authority this tight grip also involved enforcing the Faith by any means necessary take that postate
Wars after Muhammad's death when several tribes decided they were done with Islam following his death Abu Bakr the first Cal launched brutal campaigns to bring them back into the fold their crime apostasy leaving Islam and an Islam despite what lefties may tell you leaving isn't a personal choice it's seen as a crime that gets the capital punishment this harshed stand wasn't a bug in the system it was a feature a way to ensure Islam's Survival by stamping out descent early on the concept of religious Innovation only reinforced this rigidity any deviation from the pure teachings
of Islam as practiced by Muhammad and his companions was labeled heresy in other words questioning or adapting the faith to new new circumstances wasn't just Frable it could get you killed Reformation was not an option in fact a Cornerstone of Islamic teachings is to keep the faithful in line the Quran itself warns Believers about probing too deeply in the Quran it says oh you who have believed do not ask about things which if they're shown to you will distress you translation don't ask questions you might not like the answers to this was meant to discourage
curiosity and critical thinking Mohammed himself re forc this in Hadi famously saying the greatest Sinners among the Muslims are those who ask too many questions in other words Blind Faith good critical thinking bad why because too many questions threaten to expose cracks in the system this obsessive control over beliefs and practice work for centuries allowing Islam to expand and maintain uniformity across vast Empires but here's a catch when a belief system suppresses change and critical thought it becomes brittle and for centuries there really was no system to encourage dissent or provide a place where denters
could talk to each other but then came the internet where no question is off limits I think this part works best if I start with an anecdote the internet played a huge role in my journey away from Islam in the country where I was born apostasy wasn't just punishable by death it stripped you off your statehood even so I was always curious about science and history as a child despite growing up in a deeply religious household I was captivated by the origins of the universe the evolution of Life the rise of civilizations and the great
inventors who sparked the Industrial Revolution I cop by convincing myself that Islam didn't contradict modern science our teachers constantly drilled it into US Islam and science were perfectly aligned that illusion held until the days of MSN Messenger when I met an ex-muslim I couldn't believe this person was real how could anyone leave the truth did he not fear Eternal damnation but as you do on the internet we debated for days days turned into weeks and weeks into months and slowly the facade began to crumble I started discovering more freeth thinkers the voices of a growing
atheist movement Richard Dawkins iron hery Ali the late and still great Christopher Hitchens I could no longer deny it the emperor's new robes didn't exist and the days of pretending they did came to an end Islam like every other religion stood their EXP osed layer by layer revealing contradictions moral failings and centuries of unchallenged Dogma the internet has done something remarkable to Islam it has dragged it Kicking and Screaming into the age of accountability for centuries religious leaders control the narrative but just as a print impress to Christianity The Gatekeepers lost their keys ex-muslim communities
have exploded online another Community I would like to see grow is my subscribers so if if you enjoyed this video so far please hit that subscribe button and give the video a thumbs up according to P research around 24% of people raised as Muslims in the US end up leaving the faith a number that mirrors the disaffiliation rates of Christianity globally the trend is harder to track due to the stigma and legal punishment but it's clear apostasy is on the rise and the internet is playing a massive role platforms like reddits ex Muslim with over
400,000 members and Twitter hashtags like like ex-muslim because have created safe spaces for people to openly discuss their doubts share their stories and find solidarity and this isn't just limited to Western countries in places like Saudi Arabia survey suggest a significant portion of the youth up to 25% identify as non-religious think about that in a country where atheism is equated with terrorism one in four young people is questioning religion women in Iran are openly shedding their hijabs at Great risk to their lives of course it's not just about private D anymore the internet has turned
Islam into a global meme on platforms like Tik Tok and YouTube creators openly critique Islamic doctrines Hadi and the questionable aspects of Muhammad's lives all with the healthy dose of humor online some pretty funny questions are being asked why did Muhammad ban dogs and music but not slavery why did he marry Aisha who was 6 years old are you seriously saying he rode a flying donkey to heaven and split the moon for for younger Muslims these hilarious questions help to challenge taboos and then there's a rise of public ex-muslim voices people like Aon her Ali
and the apostate Prophet these figures once unimaginable are now leading the charge in normalizing criticism of Islam but this wave of criticism isn't just coming from within in the west critics of Islam have long been challenging its sacred status in public discourse take Christopher Hitchens the late great defender of free thought who infamously was extremely critical of Islam and let's not forget cultural moments that shattered the walls of sacredness in 2006 South Park notoriously aired episodes spoking fun at the prophet Muhammad sparking outrage and discussions about the limits of satire then there's Charlie hebdo the
French satirical magazine that became globally Infamous for its provocative drawings of Muhammad the tragic terrorist attack on their offices in 2015 once again demonstrated the dangers of criticizing Islam but it also galvaniz ized a global defense of free speech these events and figures have played a massive role in normalizing public criticism of Islam in the west the challenge not just the religion but the societal fear of questioning it which is something I spoke about in this video here and the result of all of this Islam's sacred Aura is fading no longer Untouchable the religion is
being questioned debated and ridiculed in ways that were Unthinkable just a few decades ago and it's driving Islamic leaders into a panic it is happening it is happening continuously it is going to become an avalanche a tsunami that is going to hit our community in such a way that we will have a very difficult time standing it will knock us over governments are doubling down on censorship countries like Iran Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are blocking websites monitoring online activity and arresting those who challenge the faith online but here's a catch the internet unlike the printing
press is Unstoppable where there's a will there is a way with vpns encrypted chats and Anonymous accounts descent continues to grow the stri sand effect kicks in every time something is censored b a video and a thousand copies show up across YouTube and telegram jail and atheist blogger and their story becomes international news inspiring more people to question the result is a feedback loop of dissent and exposure this shift is seismic Islam a religion that once punished the mere Whisper of Doubt is now being openly mocked critiqued and abandoned by millions in real time and
it's happening because the internet has made asking questions impossible to suppress now the argument against all of this might be well Islam is growing at a fast rate regardless and sure on the surface that's true true but let's look a little deeper Islam's rapid growth isn't coming from widespread conversions in fact it's almost entirely birth rate driven concentrated in underdeveloped countries with high fertility rates for example countries like niga Somalia and Afghanistan have some the highest fertility rates in the world averaging 4 to seven children per Woman these are also regions where female empowerment and
education rates are alarmingly low research shows a strong connection between fertility rates and women's access to education healthare and economic opportunities in many musly majority countries restricted cultural norms and limited access to education keep women out of the workforce and in traditional roles leading to larger families compare this to Western countries where Muslim immigrant families experience a noticeable drop infertility rates over just one or two generations for instance Muslim women in Germany or the US often have fertility rates closer to the national average about 1 .5 to2 children per woman why the change because once
women have access to education contraception and greater autonomy family sizes tend to shrink but here's the kicker even among those born into Islam apostasy is rising especially in the west converts to Islam particularly in Western countries are leaving the faith at strikingly high rates studies show that 50 to 70% of converts to Islam in the US eventually leave the religion let that sink in for every person who converts Islam the majority end up walking away PE research highlights that in the US for every one person who convert to Islam nearly a quarter of those raised
Muslim leave the faith globally Islam's image as the fastest growing religion needs context it's a facade yes the numbers are increasing but not because of conversion or ideological appeal it's a demographic story centered on birth rates in underdeveloped regions and one that is increasingly challenged as Muslim migrate to more secular empowered societies so when people argue that Islam's growth is inevitable the truth is far more complex as education levels rise and the internet reaches even the most remote Corners the Dynamics will Shi high education especially for women can foster critical thinking and the questioning of
long-held beliefs combine that with exposure to diverse ideas online and suddenly people AR limited to their local imam's teachings they engaging with ex-muslims historians scientists and philosophers this is already happening in places like Iran and Saudi Arabia the rise of the non-religious among the educated and internet Savvy youth shows how powerful this combination is this brings me to something both funny and ironic a lot of Muslims are either misguided or let's say engaging in some creative reinterpretation of their religion some do it intentionally we a concept called Teya While others are just repeating heing what
they've been told without digging deeper just remember the vast majority of Muslims don't speak Arabic and therefore don't understand the Quran and the Hadith as they were written either way they end up whitewashing Islam you've probably heard the excuses Islam is feminist sure a religion where a man can marry Four Women and women's testimony is worth half of a man's in court totally feminist or Muhammad was not a warlord with a child bride let's just ignore the careless hadit that say otherwise right Islam has no Colonial past except for the centuries of Conquest under the
Ottomans and other Empires slavery never happened in Islam conveniently forgetting it was sanctioned in both the Quran and the Hadith the list goes on women's rights lgbtq acceptance tolerance you name it the denial and whitewashing are almost impressive but here's a Twist in trying to make Islam look more palatable to Modern audiences they're inadvertently reforming it by denying or downplaying the less Savory parts of the Fate they're reshaping it consciously or not into something that aligns more with modern values and if this continues over the long term it could actually lead to a large scale
Reformation it's exactly what happened with Christianity over time reinterpretations and reformist movements softened Christianity into what we see today so whether they realize it or not Muslims insisting that Islam is feminist tolerant and Progressive are planting the seed seeds for a very different version of the religion and that ironically might be the Reformation they claim Islam doesn't need it's almost poetic really the same people defending the faith are unknowingly changing it and maybe just maybe that's how the story ends of course for any meaningful reform to take place certain conditions are crucial this kind of
change can only happen in environments where free thought is protected places that value assimilation and resist the influence of hardliners mass unchecked immigration has to be significantly overhall to prevent this in the west it's equally vital to prevent the erosion of these freedoms blasphemy laws disguised as hate speech regulations for instance must never take root the ability to question criticize and even mock is the foundation of progress and without it reform remains impossible take the UK or even Australia for example cautionary tales of what happens when these principles are compromised and yet the Catalyst for
this transformation the silent forcey writing the narrative will almost certainly be the internet a network that knows no borders no clerics and no fear of blasphemy it has become the great equalizer of ideas in the end it may not be Wars or revolutions that reshape Islam but the quiet unrelenting hum of a Wi-Fi signal if you enjoyed this video please subscribe give it a thumbs up and leave your thoughts in the comment section below thank you to my patreon and YouTube members for for supporting my work if you'll like to join them hit the join
