Red Haired Shanks: The Full Story

redhead Shanks is the Emperor of the underworld but just exactly what is the underworld well we spent the vast majority of One Piece exploring the surface which as we now know is but a fraction of the true World available and simultaneously we've spent an infantes low time exploring Shanks and this is no coincidence because his domain lies below and it explains how he can maintain an Empire teleport all around the planet and maintain his status with a mere 10man and two monkey crew all of this time we've been looking up here but we should have

been looking down there because that's what Shanks has been doing this video was inspired by P vision's greatest Shanks Theory ever which is an older video that has only appreciated over time and a lot of what gets said in it is really starting to pay off with modern Revelations so there would be a link in the description and guys he's almost at 100,000 subscribers so feel free to assist his journey to the fun number and maybe it'll kick him in the butt to make more videos let's talk about the Underworld the term underworld is very

specific in one piece generally referring to Al Andor well government sanctions trade of weapons slaves and all sorts of other you know not not so great things however the underworld in one piece is much more literal than the underworld of real life because the underworld is also the name of a lower sector of ocean where the world government have no jurisdiction and operate on a completely different network of currents than surface travel and here's the connective tissue between the two underworlds at Big mom's tea party we were introduced to the underworld Emperors and the emperor

I'm most interested in is umit a sentence that no one has said ever but his epithet is shipping King deep sea currents Umi the underworld isn't just a metaphorical term for nefarious illegal activities no it is in fact a literal place that facilitates set activities and it ties quite deeply into everything we currently know about one redhead Shanks in the one piece world if you're traveling by ship you have two choices to make your way around the planet the first is to travel via the surface currents which are present in the upper layer of sea

and that's what we see every time we're on a Open Water however there is a second far less known method which is to take the deep current which flows entirely differently on the lower layer of ocean and opens up a whole new world of options for travel think of the surface current as an above ground Highway and the deep current as a tunnel which is particularly apt because roads and tunnels that generally connected together at certain points just as the surface currents and deep currents are connected as demonstrated by Frankie's twisty windy Dragon metaphor those

currents are always connected somewhere they don't just Branch off and combined from west to east they can go up and down surfacing and submerging like a giant dragon the sea currents flow all around the world uninterrupted uninterrupted is an important word we'll get to that later but this example was given to us in relation to getting to fisherman Island because if you understand the current Network then you can access a form of fast travel so instead of going straight down to the Sea Flor what the straw had to did was they went down and that

makes sense right however choosing to utilize the deep current is very dangerous because not only can things get way out of control and smash you to pieces against colossal continent remnants but they can also dump you into undersea volcanoes and it can even lead you into a fate far far worse as described by Brooke I heard that the deep current flows very slowly near the ocean floor if it were to carry you all the way to the bottom you wouldn't see the light of day again for 2,000 years that's right there are countless Legends surrounding

these unknown currents too monsters cursors lost souls so the further you the current down the slower travel becomes and it probably reaches a point where it feels like you're not moving at all and then it remains like that for who knows how many hundreds or even thousands of years it's even been speculated that L tail is on the seaf Flor and only accessible by riding the deep current to completion which as work stated could take thousands of years and that's why very few people end up getting to laugh taale without a Little Help from some

mystery cubes that provide a handy road to the island all of which is to say that the world government Have No Dominion over over the deep currents at all their territory is very much the upper layer surface currents and apart from the new world every area of the surface is under well government domain Pirates and other nefarious n duells cannot conduct business effectively via the surface currents because they're too heavily policed which is where deep sea current umit comes in to make his fortune by taking advantages of shortcuts that the world government can't or don't

want to access and we know this because the world government uses umit Services as we saw in Bol Yuma's flashback during the construction of vegapunk lab on EAD Island it was umit who was charged with transporting all the material safely which for such a secretive and very important lab you would think the world government might want to handle that sort of thing themselves and I imagine they would have if they could but the deep current is too far beyond their influence so they need to rely on the underworld it's also the only way that pirates

assorted merchants and even possibly revolutionaries are able to combat the world government's own version of fast travel on Surface which is that the world government are in control of very specific Global areas such as the tar or vegapunk sea Stone ship technology that allows the world government to sail through the calm belt without being targeted by the Sea Kings meaning that they can skip over various points of SE and take all sorts of fun shortcuts on the surface the world governments have every advantage and cannot be beaten but under the surface they can be easily

outmaneuvered so let's bring our boy Shanks back into this this actually presents the answer to one of the most enduring Mysteries surrounding him being the marineford situation a very confusing point in one piece history where Shanks both came into conflict with kaido in the new world and arrived to stop the Paramount war in Paradise on the very same day within hours of one another so the Marines they keep very strict eyes on those four Emperors they know every move they make to the point where if Shanks was to so much as defecate at a different

angle on the toilet then the fleet Admiral would be immediately summoned into an emergency meeting so how did Shanks manage to vanish completely off the radar in the new world and show up uninvited to the Paramount war on the other side of the red line in order to explain this we've tradition Ally had to result to some very insane ideas for example before it was revealed that chanks was not a devil fruit user the primary theory was that time travel fruit or a time stop fruit very popular but let's go back to what Frankie said

the sea currents flow all around the world uninterrupted which implies that it is in fact possible to travel anywhere from anywhere all in one go without needing to worry about obscurities like the red line or needing to go through bottlenecks like the fisherman Island passage there are almost certainly other Pathways for travel throughout the world that are either not known or not well known but even then it's probably not possible for Shanks to maneuver this fast in the deep current alone however there is one very important thing that I've neglected to mention shame shame on

me but that one thing is the white stum a phenomena described by Robin as an enormous white Whirlpool that appears without warning near the sea floor like a live writhing Dragon once a ship is caught in the Stream it turns up days later an unfathomable distance away and entirely empty so the white strong is like a naturally occurring version of bartholomy Kuma's teleportation it can fast travel anywhere on the planet if you know how to use it correctly and if you can survive it it's kind of like taking the knockup stream as a method of

fast travel to Sky Islands an incredibly dangerous but highly rewarding proposition if it pays off and Mr parv Vision has good reason to believe that Shanks is not only a master of the deep sea currents but also an Overlord of the white strong so with that in mind here is how I would suggest the Marine fit situation may have played out kaido set s to marineford because he's a bit of a troublemaker but in order to get there in time from the new world he needs to take the deep current which by the way is

also more than likely how Whitebeard arrived at marineford as well remember when the Moby Dick popped up from underwater and the Marines were all like whoa where did that come from because they had zero Intel on where the Whitebeard Pirates were well that's because they were almost certainly traveling via the deep current so this kaido guy right he tries to follow and take the deep current as well but is then intercepted by Shanks and this is a big problem for kaido because the vast majority majority of his crew are devil fruit users as is he

and an underwater conflict puts him at a colossal disadvantage and as a side note pretty convenient that Shanks doesn't have any devil fruit uses on his crew isn't it it's almost as if his activities are deliberately designed to take advantage of the underwater based activities but we'll get back to that in a bit as well from here kaido either realizes that he's in a bad spot and Retreats or more likely he insists on fighting at which point Shanks could use his knowledge of the deep current to knock kaido off course or even better into a

white Strom that would take him so far away that he has no chance of getting to marineford in time after which Bo Shanks could then hit ride on a wh Strom himself to marineford in order to get there as quickly as he did and at this point in real time I think this is the most reasonable explanation for how Shanks traveled so fast but it's not just this one case you see this Shanks he's a tricky fellow and has a bit of a history of teleportation in fact all the way back in chapter 433 we

saw a very similar situation where an emergency report was given to the five Elders that sh tanks had quote broken through their lines and made contact with the emperor Whitebeard and it's very unlikely that he did so by force because when the red Force rocks up it is in pristine condition there isn't a single sign of combat which I should say is exactly the same as when he showed up at marineford as well despite coming into contact with kaido there was no indication of conflict whatsoever and remember that the world government sees the meeting of

two Emperors as an apocalyptic level event they would do everything in their power to prevent this because whether they form an alliance or start a war with one another they have the power to completely destabilize the planet so I think it's incredibly likely that Shanks again use the deep sea current Andor the white strong in order to take the Marines by surprise and have his meeting with Whitebeard but this also explains a much more recent Shanks development which is the introduction of his Grand Fleet who I love because they're all portrayed as Dollar Store Pirates

Who are pretty much incapable of anything in the manga eustus kid is even confused and refers to them as a bunch of nobodies which rude that's not how you would refer to the extended forces of any other Emperor especially ones like big mom and kaido who have walking meat Empires numbering in the tens of thousands because they need those small armies to retain control and security over their vast Empires now shanki also has a vast Empire but a useless Grand Fleet who can't retain control over that vast Empire so they're not ruled in the same

way so how does Shanks protect those territories his Grand Fleet is useless so the power behind the redhair Empire comes down down to the 12 members of the redhair Pirates two of which are monkeys of questionable usefulness so it's up to 10 humans to protect what takes other Emperors tens of thousands and I think the only solution to this is that Shanks has a travel Advantage Shanks and the redhair Pirates are able to protect their territories because they can travel faster than any other Emperor be that through the deep current the white Strom or maybe

even another mechanism that we're not aware of yet because every Emperor has their own specialty within the new world a certain Monopoly that makes them very difficult to topple with big Mom it's tempting to say that food was her specialty and sure it was but she was also portrayed as the Emperor of information her network faster past any other that we know of and it was reflected in her contacts that she invited the entire underworld to her tea party meanwhile for kaido his specialty was weapons he was the one funding and developing much of the

world's most horrible Innovations in Weaponry to plunge the world into a big old war and with Shanks I would suggest that his specialty is travel and transportation because he has effective teleportation it makes him impossible to predict and it also gives him the ability to respond quicker than anyone else because Shanks can kind of be everywhere at once and to bring this back to his crew I think it makes a lot of sense for them to be exclusively non-evil fruit users if there was a high focus on the deep current and general underwater activities as

Emperors of the sea often recruit purely for their own personal Empire goals big mom pretty Infamous with stacking her crew with food devil fruit uses and then kaido obviously has his own agenda with the raw power of animals so Shanks is really no different he focuses on underwater so you know what no fruit users probably not a good idea and really the Emperors weren't just deadlocked by Brute Force but also the Specialties you can't start a war with kaida because he's got Superior weapons you also can't start a war with big mom because she has

Superior information and her network can outplay you they know what you're going to do before you do it but also my God you can't start a war with Shanks because he can outmaneuver you in every way and I'd also propose that's why the world government are so afraid of an alliance between Emperors again not just as a threat of raw power but also as a combination of Specialties that severely tip Logistics in their favor the sort of logistics that the world government cannot compete with even with their Dominion of the surface current but if true

how did Shanks acquire this specialty well as many things do these days it all comes back to the Roger Pirates after confirming that the world has been flooded I've been saying this a lot and I will continue to be saying it again that the Roger Pirates have a huge focus on underwater activity whether that be reallyy becoming a professional ship coater or crocus living in a whale and I don't believe that's a coincidence they know the truth of the world and they understand just how powerful the unknown depths are and even though Shanks himself didn't

go to laugh tale I would be shocked if he didn't at least have some sense of the importance of the ocean as well and therefore set out to master and Conquer The Deep Sea perhaps in order to block others from doing the same and discovering the assaulted Secrets whilst waiting for Joy boy's return he might even have learned this from Roger because remember Roger didn't even have a grand Fleet not even a useless one and somehow the Roger Pirates were able to travel around the world without any issues and this takes me back to Roger's

final voyage the one where he zipped all around the globe to find them poneglyphs and in the space of one year he went on to visit every important location in the world we saw Roger go to Sky here in Paradise fisherman Island at the bottom of the red line wanu in the new world even tequila wolf in East blue this and so much more all happened in the space of a year and that just shouldn't be possible you shouldn't be able to just Dart all around the world aimlessly like this and have it work especially

with Rogers notoriety and the amount of people chasing him both Pirates and Marines so my only conclusion at this point is that his crew must have been making use of the deep current and perhaps even the white strong in order to facilitate their poneglyph cleanup Mission which is how Shanks may have become such a master of this form of travel because he's been doing it since he was a kid and there's even modern day evidence that remaining Roger Pirates could still be doing the same like when rayley ship sank and he had to swim all

the way to Amazon Lily which is an insane distance away so maybe Ry caught a white Strom to the belt instead of swimming all the way there through the surface I think that one that one's a bit of a leap rley is the kind of Boss who would just swim all the way there although if another more convenient form of travel was known to him then why not the greater point is that the underworld of One Piece remains terrifyingly unexplored and it holds powerful features and treasures for those willing to take that risk at the

moment I believe that Shanks is the only one who has even begun to do such a thing and as hinted by Brook's 2,000-year Journey Legend the deep sea current may very well be the the key to finding Loft tail itself so when shank says that it's time to go and claim the one piece don't get too excited because it could still be a very very long journey ahead the final boss of one piece is here and he may be significantly more redheaded than previously anticipated because Shanks just got serious and he's going off to the

one piece bringing him into direct conflict with our rubber based protagonist however it should be known that it was definitely Luffy who picked this particular fight all the way back in chapter 1 in fact where Luffy gives his trademark juvenile yet superbly ambitious speech one day I'll have a ship and a crew better than yours and we're going to have the biggest hord of treasure in the world I'm going to be king of the Pirates so Luffy pretty directly challenged Shanks although it should be noted that strength is not one of the metrics that Luffy

cited to Luffy being the greatest pirate guy is more about who has the best friends the most units of treasure and probably who throws the best parties because that's how Luffy understands Pirates he understands them through the scope of Shanks it's a very distorted view of piracy but Luffy is essentially challenging Shanks to a Shanks off and it really could be Luffy's goal to attain wealth Fame and power all for the purpose of throwing the world's greatest party one that not even Shanks could host because it's an exclusive ability of the pirate king and therefore

Luffy becomes the better Pirate no punches thrown no swords doing the slicing no hockey no fruit shenanigan re no nothing just solid solid party that's Luffy's potential motivation anyway but things get much more murky when putting our crims and Shanks goggles on and asking the question why is Shanks going after the one piece what does he have to gain from Finding the Treasure he's never really displayed a desire any desire other than balance and planting seeds for the future although as a young shankling he did say that one day he and buggy would go to

laugh taale together which is looking increasingly possible with the current makeup of the four Emperors imagine that all this time Shanks could have gone to laugh tail whenever he saw fit however he was waiting for best friend buggy to catch up but just like a hug that goes on for too long it's touching but we have business to attend to and one major reason why Shanks could be making a genuine play for kinghood is simply to block Blackbeard using his red to cancel out the black and thus allow Luffy a path forward or in the

worst case scenario Luffy fails and shank steps in to prevent Blackbeard from doing his evil black beardy things however it could also be much more personal when Roger returned from laugh tale he said something that made Shanks cry something that indicated that this island was intrinsically linked to Shanks and his own personal Journey To be honest at this point it doesn't matter the fact is that Shanks has entered the game and is now an opponent of Luffy a Powers some one at that in fact Shanks is the demonstrable front runner for pirate king at this

point because as threatening as Blackbeard is the way OD portrays him is nowhere near the level of sheer Divinity that Shanks inhabits Shanks is a child beater sorry that was a script error Shanks is a kid beater he beat eustus former Captain kid although he did it with a degree of Honor on wano Shanks made a speech to greenball who couldn't actually hear him but Shanks still said anyway now I'm not accusing you of fighting dirty Navy man but when the new shoots that just change pirating history are exhausted from their feet don't you think

that what you're doing is a bit much huh Mr Navy man I love that Shanks called him Navy man it's like the sort of thing I would say which is why Shanks asked if kid had recovered before doing what green ball would have done regardless I don't know it seems like unnecessary extra steps to me but Shanks has his system a system which is often thrown the fan base into a controversial conclusion such as the infamous evil Shanks Theory the history of this IDE a is such a gem of the Internet it's been around for

so long now that it's impossible to know where it really started but the oldest known text suggesting this idea essentially reads as follows hey guys it's me internet for man in late 2009 just got done listening to some Lady Gaga and I was thinking what if Shanks was evil I don't have any evidence to support this idea I just thought it would be pretty cool it's such a comically sketchy idea that the internet took and cultivated into what eventually became a semi decent idea an idea that reached its peak with chapter 97 which featured the

bombshell ending of shank's meeting with the five Elder Stars this was the moment where shank's stalks were at their all-time high because you have one allegedly good man speaking with five definite very bad men so the only way we can make sense of this is if we actually have six bad men five Elder stars and I suppose one red dwarf and from there all kinds of wacky thoughts were thrun around like Shanks is the head of a secret Cipher cell some sort of CP red that or he's going full Kuma and he is a a

puppet Emperor cyborg being controlled by the world government or even a world Noble in Disguise although actually that last one kind of turned out to be true within film reddits heavily implied that Shanks is of world Noble Heritage and a descendant of the figland family which was further compounded by the fact that Shanks was found by Roder in a chest on God Valley as a baby that part wasn't really in the movie I mean it was but it wasn't explained nor was it explained in the actual series that information was given to us in volume

4 billion where we saw Odis sketches of the two page shank's origin story one which was Faithfully brought to completion by an online hero whose name I cannot find but that's right the origins of one of the most important characters in the series was revealed in a limited piece of media exclusive to those who attended the opening weekend of film red so all I can say is thank crap for the internet to address the charos in the room Shanks being an evil World Noble is potentially debunked by his sheer handsomeness because when it comes to

Celestial dragons their outward appearance tends to mirror their inward nature as prominently displayed through the before and after of Don kyot mcard the more good he becomes the more his face actually rearranges into a more appealing shape however looks can be deceiving As proved by a flamingo whose existence shows us that world Nobles can be both ideologically putrid and aesthetically appealing regardless evil Shanks is considered to be more or less debunked these days primarily through a TV interview at chir Oda did film red where he was straight up asked whether or not Shanks was evil

and his answer was you will know the answer if you watch film red so I guess the answer is yes yes he is because sometimes I think I didn't see the same film red that everyone else saw because what I remember is Shanks abandoning his daughter on an island populated exclusively by corpses cut off from the outside world in the only location in the world capable of Reawakening an ancient music demon and leaving UTA with the deliberate impression that the only people who ever loved her were evil and just using her that's the impression I

got but the intention was to betray Shanks as a good guy so that's our answer Shanks is a generally good Mentor man however he is still a problem for Luffy so how can Shanks both be the final boss while still remaining friendly is there a way that Luffy and Shanks can compete without some sort of brutal fight battling and the answer is yes very yes they can do this through the one and only pirate tradition that we know of in the series a Davey back fight now I know that those words are going to bring

back some very unpleasant fox- based memories for a lot of you especially if you watch the anime where that Arc was butchered into Oblivion but just Channel you in a treble and stick with me here because the history of the daav back fight is far more interesting than you may remember and also shockingly relevant to what's happening right now the davb fight quote began long ago on Pirate Island a pirate Paradise somewhere in the ocean and this vaguely defined island has since been both seen and named as haosu territory currently held by Blackbeard after a

bit of a brutal kafuffle with aoku a former rocks pirate alumni that's right the stupid Fox game began in the heartland of piracy and black Bard himself even Echoes this history by calling it The Pirate paradise and there's a pretty fun theory that the Rocks Pirates actually formed as a result of a Davy backfire I mean thinking about it how does one man can recruit names like Whitebeard big mom and kaido all such extra personality somehow becoming subservient to a single silhouette well the way rocks could have accomplished this would be by winning them and

according to the rules of the Davy back fight once recruited you are unable to quit the crew so all of the Rocks Pirates would have been locked in until zek's eventual defeat at God Valley after which point they were finally allowed to dissolve now I understand that the logistics of this might be a bit difficult to comprehend I mean trying to imagine a situation where Rock Says now Whitebeard you belong to me because you lost the donut race I know it sucks to be you but next time just race better to be fair I imagine

that the original Davy back fight probably would have been a lot more brutal than the PG foxy version because what he did was turn the Davy back fight into a traveling Carnival however its Origins were likely much more grander and much more costly competitions and it could go back even further than Brocks Usopp Sanji and Robin were all very familiar with the Davy back tradition and Robin even recited the Davey Jones Legend implying that he is a figure who may have existed long ago in the one piece World in fact Oda even drew a sketch

of Davey Jones in the very same SPS where he drew an L without a hat resulting in the bombshell reveal that allegedly NL has a perm but I digress why is this relevant now why is anything I say ever relevant well in this case the greater point is that the Davey back fight is an honored pirate tradition and what better way to prove that you're a greater pirate than another pirate than to beat them in the Pirate game remembering that Luffy's metrics of becoming a great pirate have nothing to do with strength strength is a

necessary element but Luffy basically just just needs to prove that his friends are better than shank's friends which could result in all kinds of fun stuff like say Usopp confronting his father in a sniper based game or maybe Brook could have a musical duel against the monkey stuff like that completely wacky absurd and not at all power scaling Centric one piece but like every good event this is not without delicious steaks instead of wagering crew members the straw hats and the redhair Pirates could wager poneglyphs both Crews at this point likely have information that the

other needs and it could be a friendly way of deciding who gets to go to LT taale but we could also make things much more s Sinister with a Minaj abob ABAB Noir which is apparently Blackbeard's name in French which is it's pretty cool Blackbeard is a Sinister volatile putrid smelling murderer which ticks all of the piracy boxes making him the perfect pirate and I can absolutely see him agreeing to a Davy backfire because Blackbeard is a piracy purist tradition is hardcoded into his alcohol soaked blood and he also has information to wager although Blackbeard

himself may be interested in acquiring crew members like say a certain Nik Robin and the straw might also be interested in acquiring some of Blackbeard's non-consensual crew such as Charlotte pudding perhaps a tral Galore or even a Kobe as Twisted as Blackbeard and his crew are really they're not so different from the redhair Pirates or even the straw hats for that matter all three of these Crews abide by one simple law we work hard we play hard and adding Blackbeard would also bring a sense of Foul Play into the game that is unlikely to be

sourced from the more noble straw hats or red hair factions however we are still missing the most essential element of any pirate contest which is blatant and Shameless cheating which could easily be provided by buggy the clown turning this into the world's greatest Davey backfire featuring all four Emperors and buggy giving us that much needed shot of underhanded but harmless foxy I understand that this video has now devolved into complete fan wank but I couldn't think of anything more pirate than this like taking the pirate festival idea from One Piece Stampede but actually making it

good but I also love the thought of a world by long ring longland becomes one of the most important foundational arcs in the series and in fact it is current ly the one Arc that we're still waiting on to pay off apart from the Kuan stuff at the end this Arc is still widely regarded as Canon filler it's fun it's really fun but it doesn't do much I love ton jit I love his long horse and I love his ball of cheese but long ring longland rather appropriately coming full circle would make one piece the

perfect Series where every single narrative element along the way comes back to smack you on the narrative behind and finally gives some much needed Justice for foxy and I'm only just now realizing that even though this video began as an examination of Shanks it has well and truly developed into a foxy appreciation piece I promise I'll plan these a bit better in the future the year is 1500 the month is September and the day is unfortunately unknown but I'm going to guess it's a Tuesday because nothing good ever happens on a Tuesday and this particular

Tuesday was no different as a man was sentenced to be executed in logtown the former pirate king and scallywag extraordinaire Goldie Roger and in front of a crowd of thousands and to everyone eagerly watching at home Roger delivered his famous last words blah blah blah treasure blah blah find it blah blah at the place blah blah and it was these profound words that would commence the great age of piracy however there was one person in the crowd to whom these words were lost a young Scarlet headed land who was about to watch his Captain Roger

die but the death of this one Legend would give birth to aund of history's most well-known names future leader of the Revolutionary Army Monkey D Dragon future world's greatest Swordsman drael mihawk and at least three other people also named after animals but Chief among them was this 15-year-old boy who would be remembered for thoroughly kicking his name squarely into the nut sack of History by captaining the greatest pirate crew of his generation now before truly beginning the story I just want to note that the redhair Pirates are so profoundly respected that the Japanese Coast Guard

once flew their Jolly Roger during a training exercise in order to strike fear into the hearts of their very purely hypothetical enemies so when it comes to men of the sea these seamen are like no other but after his Captain's execution Shanks immediately set out to pick up where Roger had left off and as his first decision as Captain of a crew that didn't quite exist yet he invited buggy the clown to be the first official member of the redhair Pirates now buggy said no and then went on to call Shanks out a string of

expedites and buggy would then go on to start his own honestly just a successful crew when you think about it but we will save the legend of the genius Jester for another time the next we would hear of young Shanks was 2 years later when where he had traveled all the way from East blue to still in East blue but on a different Island by the name of serup Village he Shanks would recruit yaso who immediately abandoned his wife and child in favor of an alluring redheaded stranger it should be noted that Ben Beckman was

probably also recruited by this time since he did become the first mate in all otherwise this whole situation would be kind of like that Meme friendship ended with the asop now Ben Beckman is my first mate shortly thereafter or potentially even shortly there before lucky Ru was recruited very appropriately I might add because in French Ru means redhead however that would make Shanks the true lucky Ru and this lucky Ru a disingenuous impostor to the throne but this group would make up the core of the redhair Pirates and interestingly together they represent each of the

four blues because they were all born in one of the separate quarters the redhair Pirates would then expand by finding themselves a doctor named hongo however after that point Shanks mostly recruited new members based on how funny their names were such as howling gab lime juice building snake and bonk punch the latter of whom also came equipped with a bonus monkey named monster who serves as the crew musician it's unknown what instrument monster plays but I am going to guess the symbols it would be this Collective of 10 mammals that would form the executive branch

of one of the greatest and most expansive pirate Crews of all time however their progress was was a little bit slow in fact it took the redhair Pirates 12 years to properly rise to prominence and to put that into some perspective do you know how long a year is it was like 12 of those but after this point the captain Shanks had a master Bounty of 1 billion 40 million berries which adjusted for inflation would be more like approximately 1 bli 280 million berries so I actually calculated that based on inflation rates over the last

12 years in the real world I don't know why I did that but but I did it however even with this Mighty mass of cash being offered in exchange for the head of Shanks This Crew still had yet to reach their Apex however first we should discuss one very notable member of the crew there was indeed an 11th member of this early incarnation of the red hair Pirates one that was only revealed to us comparatively recently her name is Uta and she served as both the protagonist and antagonist of one Piece Film red and while

the events of the film itself are not canon uta's character is and she's even made an appearance in the manga in a silhouetted form which honestly makes videos like these quite difficult because UTA did exist and she was a member of the red hair Pirates but I can't tell you anything about how or why or where and when and also most importantly what happened to make her no longer a m in a more meta sense this is because sir's author at Recon the series after utu was created for film red deciding that he liked her

so much that he would actually just try to jam her into the manga right right there so tldr this is currently Shing as UTA she both exists and does not exist at the same time but back to things that certainly did happen 12 years prior to the current day Shanks in a method best described as somehow learned that a very special devil fruit was being transported by the world government this was of course the gomi which was of course actually the homi model Nika which was of course the most ridiculous devil fruit which holds the

key to Bringing about the dwn of the world speaking of keys this answ is a very key question we've had since the beginning of One Piece why would the redhair Pirates actively seek out a devil fruit it's easy to miss but the redhair Pirates are a crew which uter aside are completely composed of non-fruit using individuals much like the Roger Pirates before them this crew ruled the Seas through raw power alone and their role at this point is best described as the caretakers of the world Shanks in particular has some sort of special insight into

both the true history and the true future of the world and acquiring this one devil fruit was going to prove pivotal to making that future happen so Shanks pulled up his pants and he said all right boys here's the plan step one we're going to subtly sneak up on the ship step two send in our most inconspicuous member who also happens to be a largest crewmate both in terms of height and width step three steal the magical fruit step four don't forget to Pat the cat on your way out and finally with the fruit in

hand we all head back to the pub have a nice cold pint and wait for all of this to blow over which they did the crew then returned Victorious to their base on fushia village where History's Greatest accident would go on to take place now this takes us directly to the events of chapter one of one piece because fusa Village is of course the home of one Monkey D Luffy who in a bout of confused hungerman accidentally consumed the magical fruit whilst everyone else was distracted and it was in this moment that Shanks thought he

had doomed the entire world it's funny because when you're first reading this chapter you don't quite feel the weight of exactly what Luffy has done here because you know you know when you make a mistake and someone inevitably says Ah it's not the end of the world well in this case the mistake was quite literally the end of the world however the redhair Pirates would come to accept and believe that this was an act of fate and that Luffy would be the one to inherit the will of Roger Joy boy and Na and as the

official stamp of approval Shanks gave Luffy Roger Straw Hat however there were still at least 12 years and a lot of stuff to do before Luffy's Destiny would truly come to fruition and so the redhair Pirates continued amassing power and fluence to the point where 6 years later their Captain Shanks would become recognized as one of the four Emperors with a mindboggling bounty of over 4 billion berries now sitting comfortably yet firmly at the top of the pirate pyramid this crew's next move was going to be absolutely nothing after causing so much General Pirates and

Chaos This Crew became more of a diplomatic Force essentially trying to ensure that the world didn't fall apart before Luffy had the opportunity to change it and also most of the crew started wearing capes which is it's kind of cool and has actually since led to a greater Trend in one piece where you can pretty much directly power scale characters judging by whether or not they wear capes for example you can tell that onigashima Luffy is far more powerful than hok Ken Luffy because he wears a cape but there was one man out there who

threatened the plans of the redhair Pirates a man whose negligence for his own personal hygiene created a scent pungent enough for Shanks to catch a whiff of his plans and so the redhair Pirates did everything in their power to stop the threat of Blackbeard and by everything in their power well what I mean to say is that they sent a dude one one dude to warn Whitebeard who is another one of the four Emperors which I'm going to say did not go well the dude in question's name is Rockstar and he was a recent rookie

member of the redhair Pirates however sending him to conduct important discussions with another emperor of the sea on your behalf is a lot like sending the intern you hired this morning to close a multinational business deal Shanks himself later also went to Whitebeard and I would say it went mildly better but still it became clear that Shanks was not going going to be able to prevent a massive scale War now you might be a bit confused here with these wars and these people and so many beards but here is the scenario simplified this man killed

that man which made this man very upset on behalf of another man who would go on to declare war on a further 100,000 other men in order to save the lives of the aforementioned Third Man to quote the great Shanks himself oh my what a mess everything that the red hair Pirates had worked to preserve was about to crumble quicker than a Cadbury Flake being exposed to a slight breeze because they are very structurally poor chocolates but things were about to get worse because a third four emperor of the sea kaido sensing an opportunity to

be a general bungle nut also mobilized his forces with the intent to turn this conflict into the world's most bloodthirsty threesome to date which force Shanks and the redhair Pirates to go and intercept kaido and start their own side War alongside the real war so that that's two potential Wars that we've got now interestingly enough the only Emperor who did not get involved was big mom assumedly because this battle was not a and Bush and thus she was able to show some restraint due to being unable to eat it now we don't know the specifics

of how the redhair Pirates ultimately dealt with kaido and the Beast Pirates but it probably went a little something like this hey kaido mate I kindly suggest that you and your various animal men who seem to be primarily clad in tight leather for reasons that I I do not need to know turn around and don't do the thing it is that you were going to do to which kaido replied show thing buddy and promptly retreated it's honestly quite difficult to come up with a better explanation because mere hours after coming into contact with kaido in

the new world the redhair Pirates arrived at marineford in full force to stop the original War however even with their unfathomable and seemingly impossible speed they still arrived too late with both Whitebeard and Ace already having departed this world via death regardless what was left at the war at this point did indeed stop with Shanks and the redhair Pirates then offering to escort the Whitebeard Pirates to a burial Island and they even offered to help dig the holes however even the power of an emperor was unable to dig a hole bigger than the one ace

had already dug for himself by pursuing Blackbeard in the first place now the next two years were quite a turbulent time for the world while with Blackbeard sticking his sausage into the power vacuum activated by whitebeard's death but with all of that said it was a pretty chill period for the redhair Pirates in fact the most notable thing to come out of it was changing their Jolly Roger it's subtle but Post Time skip the red hair Pirates went from an open-mouth skull to a closed mouth skull potentially because they got tired of people graffitiing all

sorts of crude man Parts in the former skulls mouth the entire crew also attended a wedding at one stage so that that was probably nice we still don't know whose wedding it was actually one event of note is that worst Generation member eust as kid decided to launch an assault against the redhair Pirates at which point kid was so far out of his League that he was legally forced to register an entirely new postcode and went on to earn his colloquial fan nickname of Eustace mid but we really know very little of what the red

hair Pirates got up to in those two years which is kind of the curse of the caretaker you never really notice what they're doing unless it's gone horribly horribly wrong and so the redhair Pirates continue to keep the global toilet seat warm for the eventual behind of the sun god to Grace and then it happened during the events of wano the gomi awakened into its true form the one that the redhair Pirates had patiently waited 12 whole years to see and I suspect that there was a bit of a discount happening that day because it

allowed Luffy to bring down two Emperors at the cost of an ark for one but during this time the redhair Pirates happened to be sailing past wano as part of a promotional tour for one Piece Film read and with everything that they had waited for finally within their grasp their Captain declared that their time as caretakers was over and that it was finally time for them to claim the one piece here's the best way to start a fight in the one piece fan base because there are certain things that are practically guaranteed to start a

war for example just ask the question who's better Zoro or Sanji well bet yet go to a crowded convention hall and just yell yam don't even elaborate just say the name and watch the chaos unfold but I genuinely think that the best method is to ask who would win in a fight Shanks or mihawk this deceptively simple question has given rise to some of the most toxic debates I have ever seen on the internet so I going to settle this question once and for all using fictional facts and fictional science because it's not a simple

question and the answer actually changes depending on what criteria you choose to apply are we going by who's beaten who are we judging this based on hockey or bounties or general positions in the world or are we judging it by who's the better swordsman and is that really all the RO to it and the answer to all of the above is yes question mark But at the outset most power scaling debates can be solved by comparing the CVS of both fictional fighters in question so here is a complete list of everyone who mihawk has beaten

in the series number one Zoro and that concludes the list of everyone that mihawk has defeated to contrast that here is a complete list of everyone who Shanks has beaten in the series number one eustus kid and that concludes the list of everyone that Shanks has defeated three time skip Zoro and post time skip kid so it's about the same level of impressive but unfortunately it doesn't give us much to work with so thankfully we do have their extended CVS for Shanks whilst not defeating these opponents he did clash with Whitebeard splitting the Skies open

and Shanks also blocked sakazuki and scared him away and what's notable is that sakazuki is not the only Admiral shank's cause to soil his pristine Navy pants and I have to admit that that's pretty impressive so now let's see what mihawk's got mihawk had a brief clash with Vista where he got to see some flowers so that was a lovely day out mihawk also beat up to okama during Marine foit who you can see here in color and speaking French mihawk also defeated a very large Iceberg and cut up lots of non-c ships so I

don't doubt his power at all when it comes to inanimate objects but the scale here is it's certainly getting tipped in favor of Shanks but something else to consider is that they both have offscreen CVS as well offscreen Shanks has confronted kaido and done something Powers some enough to even gain kaido's respect as in the famed how high will your ceiling go panel you can see a Shanks and an Odin but no mihawk h suspicious then again I doubt that mihawk would have ever wanted to fight against kaider because kaida uses a weapon that is

blunt and heavy quite the opposite of sharp and well admittedly probably very heavy as well yodu is a beast but really the biggest thing on either CV is the fact that Shanks fought equally against mihawk and mihawk fought equally against Shanks so this could be a situation where two friends are using each other as fake references on their respective CVS but according to purely CV based evidence Shanks has presented more power but is it really all about demonstrated power because probably the most common answer to Shanks versus mihawk is that yes Shanks is stronger but

mihawk is a better swordsman Shanks is generally more powerful but when playing the game of Sword blades mihawk is more skilled and this then leads to the question of what is a swordsman which is very philosophy much think but before getting into that consider this scenario one if Shanks were stronger than mihawk and always uses a sword and if mihawk refuses to to fight Shanks for whatever reason can we honestly still claim that mihawk is the world's greatest swordsman it's like winning a world title in something iner a sport like let's say lawn balls can't

think of any others but mihawk's position here is like becoming the world champion of Sword balls but then refusing to ever play anyone again it's almost cowardly if Shanks was stronger then even without an arm mihawk has work to do which leads us to scenario 2 mihawk is genuinely stronger than Shanks and refuses to fight because without the arm it's just just not fair and to that I say well Zoro lost an eye so is mihawk going to refuse to fight him as well are we now in a position where we need to cancel mihawk

for being an ableist probably not because to be fair eyes are canonically worth less than arms in the one piece world because characters like Fuji Tor prove that you can be an amazing badass sword boy without them but then again I would also argue that characters like Shanks do the exact same thing but for missing arms characters like kid do not help this but Shanks he he good so I would suggest that you know instead of winging about it me haw you should do something honorable take a page from the book of kakuri and equalize

things by cutting your own arm off make it a challenge again I mean what are you really saving that arm for all of the other Swordsmen that you never fight but this is where things get tricky tricky tricky tricky because exactly what are the rules and requirements of being a swordsman I mean assumably no punching is a good start which is actually much less of a problem for Shanks these days hary is obviously allowed but are devil fruits allowed in the sacred art form come to think that all of the greatest Swordsmen are all a

bunch of traditionalists fighting completely fruit nude so maybe I imagine the only hard rule is that you need to use a blade or blades plural as a primary SLA weapon and a new question now has Shanks ever not done that every time he's gone and done something super awesome was with his sword Griffin and the one time he lost his arm was coincidentally the one time that he didn't have his sword with him actually why didn't he have the sword just before saving Luffy Shanks was shown with it so it seems like an odd thing

to discard in a time of need so I guess the thing is that logic it's inarguable that mihawk is a better swordsman than Shanks by the very definition of his title he has to be so then we ask the question is Shanks a swordsman this is quite a controversial topic amongst chronically online individuals such as myself because in the SPs of volume 83 a reader asked what's the name of redhead shank's sword and D replied apparently it's called Griffin he says apparently as if he's not the one who named it often times Zoda considers himself

to be more of a historian of the one piece world than an author but he continues we've known shanks since the very first chapter but how does he actually fight is Oda hinting that he often doesn't use Griffin to fight if so that completely goes against literally everything else he's ever shown us because even in film red that's all Shanks uses and using the evidence we have I have no choice but to declare Shanks as a swordsman which means that this fight would go to mihawk if it were based on that criteria but there's also

more things Bounty scaling is another very common solution to fictional problems mainly via the theory that bigger number equals bigger power yes I am very smart I will say it's a bit more Nuance than that especially in this particular situation because Shanks has a bounty of 4 billion and then some other numbers while SM Hawk has a bounty of 3.5 billion and also some other numbers meaning that there's an approximately 460 million barri gap between them which is less than one Uso's worth it used to be close to jinbe but he got a big upgrade

and now he is a very pricey fish but the point is that it's not a big gap at least not taking into consideration everything that Shanks is an emperor of the sea who commands possibly the single most powerful pirate crew in existence today he also has an extended Grand Fleet but to be fair they're more of a handicap Shanks is also of world Noble Heritage and the leading candidate to become the next pirate king and one of the single greatest living threats to the world government today meanwhile over here you've got mihawk and he's just

some dude some dude on his own with a massive toilet and the world government believed that Shanks is only one Uso's worth more of a threat than mihawk if mihawk wanted to be an emperor he could be in fact mihawk has the highest currently known Bounty of any character who is not an emperor and a bounty higher than two of those who are it's not about a lack of power intelligence or resources it's just a lack of drive this dude just wants to live a quiet life in his castle with his toilet his big titty

goth GF and mandrels lots and lots of mandrels so if we're being honest here and and we are mihawk's Bounty yeah it might be lower but it's significantly more impressive because it speaks purely to his raw strength so one of two things happened here either Shanks is an underachiever or mihawk is is an overachiever and I think it's the latter which perhaps controversially would lead me to pick mihawk if we were using Bounty scaling because just he alone is considered to be worth almost the entire value of an emperor of the sea but to something

more combat relevant we also need to have the haky discussion Shanks has conqueror Hy full stop mihawk as of this recording has displayed no such ability unfortunate although being realistic look he almost certainly does I mean if Zoro has it then mihawk surely has it as well which I only bring up because a common argument for Shanks is Victory is and I quote this man can scare an admiral with [ __ ] alone [ __ ] or COC is an abbreviation for conqueror's hockey but I always read it as [ __ ] because I'm one

of those people I always read LOL as LOL COC also isn't very good because if we're using the color of translation then it should be color of the Supreme King which would be cque which admittedly isn't too much better speaking vaguely of men's lower regions and this is surprisingly relevant but Oda was once asked a very pertinent question in the SPs of volume 73 hey Oda in all of these fight scenes why doesn't anybody go for the men's groins doesn't that seem like the quickest path to Victory to which Oda replies true that is a

vital area just imagine Legends among men Whitebeard Shanks mihawk staring each other down bearing their weighty ideals and trying to whack each other in the balls is that the kind of manga you want to read honestly yeah kind of yeah but I just find it interesting that when odor is thinking of Legends of this world the three key names that he lands on are Whitebeard Shanks and mihawk so no mihawk is not currently confirmed to have conqueror haky but he almost certainly does and look in the unlikely circumstance that he doesn't that again only speaks

to his ridiculous royal power however by observable evidence alone Shanks would have to take this using the haky criteria which puts us in a bit of a problematic situation in terms of observable strength Shanks wins in terms of the semantics of being a swordsman mihawk wins mihawk also wins using Bounty scaling and Shanks wins via observable hockey so we're at to all and we need a tiebreaker and for this I've decided to use the oldest known form of power scaling which essentially boils down to asking you which one you like better I asked all of

you to vote for who you think would win in a community poll and Shanks won in a landslide 78% of all Grand Fleet members believe he would be the Victor compared to a mere 22% of those who think that mihawk would take the fight now the reason why this is interesting is because I also conducted a second Paul but this time just asking which character you like better and there is a shockingly strong correlation with the results there's about a 5% difference but as a whole the results of which character you like are also reflected

in which character people think would win in a fight now admittedly correlation does not prove causation I just thought it was fascinating that the numbers were so very very similar and I have to say there isn't undeniable bias towards Shanks in the fan base because he even wonder who would be a better dest poll which I seriously object to mihawk is the perfect dust he's chill he's polite he's well spoken he knows a lot about like wine and stuff whereas DS is just going to show up with a case of cheap beer take his shoes

off and invite all of his friends that you've never heard of to come and trash your place this is how I can tell I'm old by the way because my idea of social interaction is having people over for dinner however I do think there's quite a bit of potential to sway this into mihawk's favor in the future because thinking about it he's a character who has yet to perform a single named attack in the series despite that my congratulations to Mr Shanks for winning what is admittedly a pointless online argument and keep in mind that

we may very well never get solid answer to this mihawk and Shanks are probably never going to fight each other directly and in the end I think our greatest enemy here is the lord of the coast for denying us that battle bad fish bad Shanks did a thing a very impressive thing because a whole 25 years after being introduced Shanks has performed a single attack and it may be one of if not the greatest attack we've seen in all of One Piece and you know I feel really bad for eust kid fans because they've spent

their existence desperately trying to justify his and this is how they're rewarded but seriously what exactly did kid expect to happen what what did anyone expect to happen kid decided to invade the only island in the world dedicated exclusively to breeding Warriors and on this island there so happened to be an emperor of the sea all of his commanders and his Grand Fleet also this chapter felt like it was cut short just like kids hopes dreams and now physical body before we commence used's kids official Funeral Service though there are some very important introductions made

in regards to the Grand Fleet of Shanks these guys the the guys they are very relevant they might seem like a bit of ornamental chap to set dressing especially since they're also wacky and cartoony like there's a guy who's literally losing his teeth but they are actually the key reason as to why things here play out so brutally so first up we have paded totini of the puddle Pirates he's a frog that or he's a man obsessed with frogs it doesn't really matter because all we need to know is fraud grav tooth fuger appears leader

of the social club Pirates which in essence seems to be the floating retirement home of the new world where I assume all of the frail geriatrics gathered together to play lawn balls but the most interesting of the trio is panaki Pudo captain of the bis Pirates and she is almost certainly connected to Cavendish who was Prince of the bis Kingdom and Pudo perfectly matches their 18th century French nobleman aesthetic but these guys are a classic example of Oda being able to flip emotions like a trap card they are jokes they are introduced as jokes they're

weak they're wacky they're classic one piece not at all what you'd expect of someone like Shanks who commands a core crew of very sleek and very cool looking individuals even the monkey musician looks cool but that's why this is so perfect this Fleet is said to be notoriously weak not just these three Pirates the entire organization is a joke with this entire situation presenting Shanks as the antithesis of his Emperor counterpart kaido kaido was a dude guy who only accepted the strong into his crew he's a guy who would never care if his crew were

beaten or killed as it would only reinforce that they didn't deserve to be there in the first place whereas Shanks has the opposite of approach his extended forces seem to be made up of potentially exclusively weak individuals who he protects at all costs and that small piece of knowledge completes our emperor dynamic because in our original group big mom and Whitebeard were also antithetical Emperors big mom had this focus on blood relations with a strong fear of the parent whereas white beat had a focus on found family and love of the parent so it's kind

of funny in the pre-time skip era you only had the following four options as a pirate one you become the son of Whitebeard two you become the son in law of big mom three you can Pledge Your strength to kaido and hope that's enough or four if you're weak and you know you're weak then you can flock to Shanks and this may be planting the seed of a potential shank's death in the future because it's easy to see him getting into a situation like this with a more powerful opponent looking into the future and sacrificing

himself for the lives of those he cares about you know the classic heroy stuff because as an individual after this I'm not sure if Shanks can be beaten in straight combat I think the only way to make him vulnerable is to play dirty and Target his massive collection of frogs old men and Whimsical socialites but this is why Shanks had no mercy against kid because 25 years later all of this still comes back to chapter 1 you can pour drinks on me you can throw food at me you can even spit on me I'll just

laugh that stuff off but good reason or not nobody hurts a friend of mine I think that if kid didn't Target the fleet this might have been resolved a bit more amicably and by amicably I mean shank's not wiping the kid pirates off the face of the earth I think this will go down in history as the easiest 3 billion berries ever made it took shank's less than 10 seconds to earn the equivalent of around $22 million and it's tax-free so the books are looking pretty good for Shanks Incorporated now in kid's defense Shanks was

the only character who actually took him seriously everyone else just kind of shrugged him off even the fleet and that may also be why Shanks activated no mercy mode because he could see the potential that kid had he's not like big mom and kaido who were so arrogant that they would decide to play with kid like a toy those two see no risk in making objectively poor decisions Shanks even asks kid is still wounded after wner so as much as he could Shanks wanted a fair fight here however since his opponent was kid he was

never going to get that but seeing shanky's future site was one hell of an experience for an ability that chose the future we as an audience almost never get to see that future Beyond a small cryptic panel here and there even with kak curri we never saw his Visions with this kind of depth and I guess this kind of tangibility from an artistic perspective this is OD to showing us that Shanks has far superior future sight because it even allows us the readers to peer into it but if I'm not mistaken Oda has also set

up that chanks can see even further into the Future kid made a point of saying that he would destroy the fleet in 10 seconds and I don't think that was an arbitary piece of dialogue it shows us that Shanks can see at least 10 seconds into the future which is a massive extension on the handful of seconds that Luffy and kakuri can see also the face he makes whilst using future sight is legitimately terrifying this is the first time I've seen Shanks and been genuinely afraid of what he can do in this chapter he's more

of a monster than big mom or kaido could ever dream of being and that was J's depos directly against the more chill closeup of Ben Beckman who's even smiling after seeing shank's War face he's completely relaxed because Ben Beckman has that much confidence in his captain I don't even think the straw hats have that much confidence in Luffy This Crew is something else or more accurately I guess I should say this Captain is something else and then we get our first Shanks attack in the series Shanks has been in combat before but always in a

defensive nature he was forced to clash with Whitebeard and he blocked Admiral ainu but now we finally get to see what happens when Shanks actually plans on fighting and dead said well it's not pretty I mean it's beautiful in its own horrifically powerful way the attack he uses is called Divine departure and that actually comes straight out of the Roger Playbook this is the move that Roger used against kuk kyoden sending the strong Samurai flying far far away it seems to be a bit of a BM attack a sort of well you're not ready to

fight me so please depart it's almost like swatting a fly the whole and in a way it reminds me a lot of what happened to Luffy in act one of wano Luffy leapt into a light deep in enemy territory no plan no sanity just confidence lots and lots of unearned confidence and he was obliterated in one move but something equally as epic was Dory and brogy delivering the finishing blow because their words were basically the giant equivalent of well air around and find out they used Hoku sovereignty which is a legendary attack in the series

we saw them use it on the island ETA back during little garden but big mom and kaido also used their own incarnation of this during the raid their version was called Hawkeye sovereignty and it Remains the strongest single attack ever performed in one piece all of which is to say when this attack gets used there is no hope this is the Pinnacle of Y screwed which resulted in the destruction of the Victoria Punk which is actually quite sad because the story behind this ship is that it was named after kid and Killer's deceased childhood friend

dick in the blender in fact kid thinks that ah all I need to do is get a different brand of blender and everything will work out as epic as the chapter was I've lost all respect for kid and the fact that he made it this far how how I'm I'm attributing that entirely to killer this defeat was so brutal and so Swift that it's almost like the start of an isekai anime the main character is killed in the real world and now eustus kid is off to start my new life as a garbage can in

world for so long we thought that kid was going to be the Whitebeard to Luffy's Roger but as it turns out kid was the gecko Moria of this generation aimlessly leading his crew into repeated death and Destruction for for no discernable reason and this makes me fear quite a bit for lore as well I wouldn't be surprised if we get a chapter soon with a similar ending to his conflict against Blackbeard some sort of ominous narrator quote saying that the heart Pirates have been annihilated and another three billion bar man has fallen well they come

to think that kid was doomed no matter what in fact running into Shanks was his best case scenario because he could have chosen just just not to engage but the other options were he runs into Blackbeard or he goes to Egghead Island and gets caught in the middle of kizaru in like a 100 Marine ships so after leaving wano his fate was sealed wait no it wasn't or he needed to do was not be an idiot and he probably would have been fine speaking of Mr Blackbeard though Shanks mentioned something very interesting as he expected

teach to show up at wner assumedly to take advantage of kaido's defeat and secure some sort of poneglyph or maybe even an ancient weapon but he didn't and I guess that's why Shanks was there to thwart a potential attack on the island from Blackbeard but because Blackbeard didn't show up Shanks went well what do I do now I guess I'll promote film red that's that's what I'll do but he was originally there for the attack and it's yet another Shanks Blackbeard connection thread Blackbeard is always on shank's mind it's one of those you need to

we know is that even though who's who credited Shanks as the fruit thief the more technically correct answer is lucky Ru whose Vivia card claims that he is indeed our fruit Liberator which is very interesting because we now have a who versus Ru scenario and as we all know when two characters with rhyming names meet up in one piece it triggers an automatic RP battle other potential examples include Luffy versus duy NCO Robin versus Thrifty bin and scratch Mena Pooh versus a literal pile of Pooh and honestly in that last scenario I would put my

money on the feal matter but who's who was unable to bring the rhyme and therefore he was forced to do the time and the fated fruit was found and won rather appropriately by a man literally named Lucky and so Shanks now having the necessary key required to save the world decided to do what all good Australians do after a shift on the job which is to head down to the pub and it would be at said Pub that disaster struck but not before we discover shank's decree number the second one which I think rather appropriately

he had just doomed the entire world like I imagine his thought process was something like this random boy just ate one of the most powerful devil fruits in all of existence that is directly tied to being able to fulfill the will of the former pirate king as well as Joy boy the will of D and even the ancient Sun God and You by which I mean me have just effed everything harder than big mom gunning for her 85th child Shanks had one job that job was to not have the fruit be eaten arbit by a

hungry Village boy and he failed failed spectacularly or did he because this was actually all according to fruit-based Kaku as we have recently learned from the five old men zoan type devil fruits tend to have a will of their own each containing a seemingly independent life form and this HoHo M Alika was a particularly slippery and mischievous Zen that had eluded 8 centuries worth of old men trying to capture it which means that it's almost impossible to eat this fruit by accident the only mouth hole consuming this fruit is the hole that the fruit chooses

so it's less about Luffy eating the fruit and more about the fruit itself infiltrating Luffy something that Shanks a man acquainted with the great fruit truth would eventually come to realize thus having it Dawn on him that Luffy was some form of chosen one which to be fair was also already flagged by him having a big old D in his name but that's why Shanks was also instantly willing to give up one of his arms in order to save him in shank's words he bet his arm on the new era however in retrospect this bet

is the equivalent of walking into a casino and deciding to play a version of roulette where the only colors are red and the only number is 56 chances are no matter which of the red 56 is you bet on things are going to work out pretty well and speaking of working well let's check in with the developing legal system of shankland with our third decree which is no piano teeth people are allowed one must have adequate hygiene this is of course a law that's designed to essentially say no blackbeards but of course saying that so

blatantly well that would be discrimination and Shanks would be taken to court with Blackbeard hiring the best lawyers that cherry pie can afford now speaking of Blackbeard that is what Shanks probably wasn't doing that one time by which I am of course referring to the famed meeting on Marisha in chapter 97 Shanks rocked up in a quite a fashionable cloak to speak to the five old men about a certain pirate one who until recently was thought almost certainly to have been Blackbeard and I suppose it still could be but now Luffy is looking much more

likely the key here is determining how much the five Elders knew about the G prior to wo and traditionally one piece says that it's not much in fact the elders have even spoken directly about Luffy in chapter 594 stating this straw Hat Luffy is always in the news but considering he's G's grandson I'm not surprised right so Luffy is always in the news or at least enough to catch the attention of the various geriatrics but at no point did they consider him a threat worthy of immediate assassination until wner and that says to me that

they likely had no idea about the truth of his fruit and the only thing that changed between wano and not wano was speaking to Shanks after which point the collective incontinence of the elders would have been enough to make Aqua Laguna look like a pleasant wave on a beach and so they became so desperate for the bathroom but after that desperate to rid the world of Luffy that they sacrificed one of their top cp0 agents and directly provoked the mighty fish Lord kaido now with that said before we examine why Shanks would ever tell them

such a thing there is another potential solution which is that the elders were given this information by E who promptly instructed them to erase the now literal light that is Luffy from the world that is a definite chance although it does bring up questions about you know why would e keep this a secret for so long what what gives Mr Shadow guy I mean if Luffy's name had been well known for such an awfully long time now maybe you should have told us and just stuff like that I mean talking about e is always tricky

because there's so much in the mystery like we don't even know if e is human quite similar to Shanks I suppose because this often legless set of hairy legs generally functions as a walking question mark with one of those many questions being if he did know about Luffy then why did he tell the bad guys about the thing that he knew that they didn't well the answer is reasons but then the question becomes what are those reasons and I don't know the answer to that question and right now the only thing that really fits is

the idea that Shanks and the Roger Pirates became aware of the future of this world something that has been very much flagged through Odin and Toki with their specific predictions concerning Joy boys and and such but maybe the knowledge was even more detailed than that perhaps Shanks was somehow aware that the actions of the world government were needed to trigger Lu Awakening and therefore he bodged into marija poked the old men with the Stick of intrigue and then headed down to the pub for a pint whilst the dawn of the new world played out around

him and getting very conspiratorial right now perhaps that's also why he prevented kaido from attacking Whitebeard because he knew that kaido was an important piece of this puzzle as well but that that's probably going a bit too deep down the speculation hole instead let's ask the next ridiculous question who else knew the truth of Luffy's Powers because it certainly wasn't just Shanks and we'll find out who that is after our next decree from shankland which is no bathrooms only bushes fair enough I suppose bathrooms are a bit of a hassle well with all the flushing

and the washing and the general cleanliness party Shanks has no time for such frivolities something which he has no doubt learned from fellow Bush pissa Silvers Raye because rayy has to have known about Luffy in fact going back on the series it's quite impactful to examine the first time that Ry met Luffy and mentioned Shacks because in ry's words regarding Straw Hat when I asked him about it he talked about about you with the biggest smile on his face smiling being one of those fairly innocuous words and actions that have become ridiculously important in recent

times but thinking back on it Ry very much could have structured everything I've said this before but Ry was the one who chose the 2-year training period almost certainly knowing that whatever needed to happen would only happen after that 2 years and I can just imagine Ry watching Luffy use gear forth for the first time and seeing some of that latent sun god power emerging but it does make you wonder who else was in on this another potential candidate includes Whitebeard because Roger well he spilled quite a lot of world government branded tea directly into

his lap and so when Whitebeard encountered Luffy for the first time it all of a sudden makes much more sense that he was so willing to order his entire crew to protect Luffy despite the fact that they were in the middle of an a slightly important war against the greatest military might on the planet but for someone who likely did discover the truth involving this fruit well that would be kuki Odin who may not be able to say that truth with his mouth hole due to the whole death thing but who may very well have

written it down in a certain Journal which certain people have now read although yamur MOS surprised at Luffy's awaken form probably debunks that idea pretty quickly but Shanks certainly wasn't the only one to know and behind the scenes this cohort of knowledge knowers have been strategically manipulating events in the favor of our rubber boy now let us manipulate the fifth and most important decree of shankland which is be excellent to each other and party on dudes and one way of being excellent is by watching this next next video so I look forward to seeing you

does his name begin with the letter P and therefore Shanks is not immune from Death unless his secret birth name is panks if that does turn out to be the case then I shall reevaluate this entire video but I'm not counting on it because currently Shanks is saddled with quite an alarming amount of death Flags in fact at this point I'd say that Shanks has more Flags than the headquarters of the United Nations it is an impressive collection but not one that bodes well for him so let's have a bit of discussion M regarding the

death of Shanks and it's all going to begin with a quick round of shank shank or Shanks a very simple miname the rules of which are as follows within this box you are going to find one of three items a lamb shank a prison shank or a shank Shanks and it is going to be your job to guess which of these items it will be should you guess incorrectly then your punishment will be to subscribe to the ground Line review thus resulting in consistent injections of One Piece culture administered directly into your YouTube feed and

necessary dramatic Stakes following wano we have one final Saga of One Piece left to embark on there's no telling how many arcs that Saga May consist of but this story block is going to be the end and as such it will be a very personal story for Luffy all about achieving his dreams and stuff like that but in order to do that he's going to need and I have a lighting Cube for this dramatic Stakes which is actually a bit of a weird thing for one piece when you think about it Luffy almost never has

personal stakes in any Arc because he's very rarely the emotional Focus currently the only arcs that purely center around Luffy are the beginning of romance Dawn and the entire Paramount War Saga and in each case Luffy needed a current flame of drama to burn by which I mean unfortunate things happening to other unfortunate people in order to impact Luffy for example in Romance daor that would be Shanks losing an arm in the Paramount war that would be the impending execution and eventual death of Ace and even in the postwar arc we have the death of

Sabo for a final Saga or final Arc Luffy is almost certainly going to be the emotional Center once more so we're going to need to amp things up a bit in the dramatic Stakes Department Of course that doesn't necessarily need to be Shanks there are other possibilities as of right now like say sabba or even using one of the other straw hats however I think it's personally much more more likely to be Shanks when we consider every other flag and speaking of considering Flags has anybody ever seen the flag of the north Caucasian Emirate it

was a state that existed for like 6 months during the Russian Civil War and that flag is is just a smiley face but our second death flag to rawood Shanks is the Blackbeard Connection in many ways the story of one piece is equal parts the tale of Monkey D Luffy and Marshall D these two are the ones who are set up to be fighting out for the crown of pirate king however Blackbeard's strongest Connection in the series is not not to Luffy but in fact to Shanks and I have a whole a whole different video

exploring this connection which I highly recommend checking out it's downright Sinister just how entwined the stories of Shanks and Blackbeard are in fact the only two situations where we generally see Shanks is either when he's admiring Luffy's progress or when he's showing grave concern for Blackbeard Shanks is still probably the only person in this world who understands the endgame danger of teach and this connection is going to have to come to a conclusion one way or the other and Blackbeard has a well documented habit of making those conclusions quite fatal see for example his threads

with thatch Ace and white beard because Blackbeard is a certified corpse crafting Contraption who has effectively stated that fighting Shanks is part of his grand plan for the future and if Shanks were to die as part of this plan I really could not think of a more appropriate way to fall because it gives Luffy an enhanced personal stake in bringing down Blackbeard the fact that he defeated and captured Ace is not enough the fact that Blackbeard is also vying to become the pirate king is not enough we are going to need something that is going

to rock Luffy to his rubber core a fresh and painful wound to make this whole Blackbeard business really resonate otherwise the dramatic Stakes are going to consist primarily of the fact that Blackbeard doesn't shower you've captured my brother you want to do the thing that I want to do and you stink doesn't quite have the same ring to it as you captured my brother you killed my mentor and now you want to claim my dream and also why do you smell like that does that guarantee Shanks will die no no it doesn't the emotional need

specifically in regards to Blackbeard can be achieved in other ways but these flags are starting to line up in a very unfavorable formation for Mr Shanks what how was that so difficult to say Mr Shanks these flags are starting to line up in a very unfavorable formation for Mr Shanks got it now I'll just make a note to delete that previous part and no one will know any better but our next flag is going to be the ongoing motif of generational shift one of the things I love most about one piece is that it is

a very slowbone story consisting of the rising and falling of generations the whole pre-time skip era culminated in the end of one generation and the Ascension of another Whitebeard passed away sangoku retired GARP retired sort of and in their absence the worst generation took to the stage of the new world now shank's generation Falls in between those two and it's next in line to fade into history by the end of one piece I firmly believe that Luffy's generation which oddly enough does include Blackbeard despite his age but I believe that his generation will be the

one standing at top the world however I'm not sure if that's possible with a figure likee shank still in existence at least not in the role that he currently fills with the power he currently wields should everything spiral into chaos and go to General hell Shanks is the natural leader a powerful rallying point to prevent truly evil things and people from happening but Shanks is not the protagonist and we need to move that rallying point to Luffy which is very relevant for our next flag that being balance nobody told me that Shanks was a clown

however I have no choice but to assume that he is because his sense of balance is perfect throughout the series he's acted as more of a Diplomat than a pirate such as when he warned Whitebeard about Blackbeard or even stuff like organizing meetings with certain Elder Stars he's also the one who prevented kaido from attacking the Whitebeard Pirates plus he stopped the entire Paramount War Shanks is historically pretty much the only factor that has stopped our one piece Jenga Tower from collapsing however like all Jenga there will come a time where we do need that

Tower to collapse I didn't think about this cuz still I have to go and clean all of these up primarily so that it can be rebuilt through Luffy and all of that fun joy boy sun god dawn of the World style prophecy stuff that's all very vag and Shanks very unfortunately stands in the way of that he's a representative of the current way of life and an active part of the established power structure as an emperor of the sea and it's very hard to demolish a building when you cannot break its stronger support so whether

it's death or something not deathy Shanks and the redair Pirates will need to be removed but death does still remain Prime as a possibility especially with our next flag being that Shanks is a mentor figure mentors and parental types do not have a great track record in one piece they exist to inspire and drive out protagonist and sometimes even our antagonist actually but a big part of accomplishing that narrative goal is the idea of inherited will which generally occurs through death think of characters like kuina Bel May Holo Nikia Tom Fisher tiger Ros nante and

so on and so forth there's a lot it's the idea of carrying out the legacy of someone else because they are unable to do it themselves something that Luffy arguably already has with the legacy of a but something that could be significantly enhanced with the Spectre of Shanks I should also point out that not all mentors are destined to die Zep is a pretty fantastic example of a living Mentor who seems to be on the path for a lovely and peaceful life but then again Zep also isn't an active emperor of the sea throwing himself

into Grand Global conflicts so the situations are slightly different to say the least also the Zev style lingering mentors are extraordinarily rare we could probably count them all on one hand but this does flag another issue which when died red also turns into a scary death flag and that is the concept of the straw hat now the straw hat itself is pretty meaningless to Luffy anyway forgetting that it was once owned by Roger to Luffy it serves purely as a representation of his promise to Shanks to return it when he becomes a great pirate but

we do have a bit of a problem here because it is not going to be easy to return said hat if Shanks has passed on although I would strongly argue that that's how it should be while it may only hold the meaning of personal promise to Luffy this is a profoundly important generational artifact through the mariju Revelation it's implied that the straw hat is a symbol that has endured potentially a millennia of just being passed onwards and onwards from one generation to the next and we do have a pretty great thing going here the Hat

went from Roger to Shanks to Luffy in perfect generational sequence so there's something a bit off about the idea of the Hat then going back to Shanks if anything it should continue to be passed forward to the generation after Luffy and one of my favorite ideas surrounding this would be to give the hat to Marino's child which may very well also be shank's baby but that is so that's an entirely different discussion like maybe we'll do a video where we get Shanks to take a paternity test and discover once and for all if he is

in fact the baby daddy My overall point being that the only way for the straw hat to keep traveling forward is if Luffy is unable to return it to Shanks of which death is really the only possible option for that scenario let's now get into some inevitable concerns though the biggest one is probably that I think a lot of One Piece fans might feel quite short changed if Luffy and Shanks never have their reunion moment that is the thing that we've been building up to since chapter 1 even more so than the idea of finding

the one piece or becoming the pirate king those things are actually quite secondary to the promise between Luffy and Shanks and even though yes I am pretty sold on our redheaded Mentor dying I would also feel quite jipped if he and Luffy never had that reunion in one way or another I think it's definitely possible to have both though there's no reason why Luffy can't reunite with Shanks under some sort of dramatic circumstances sort of like how he reunited with Ace during the Paramount War it gave the brothers a triumphant amazing moment before promptly snuffing

out the flame of ace and having that go on to be a profound driving force for Luffy so it's definitely possible to have both a reunion and a death they are not mutually exclusive secondly a lot of people may take issue with the concept of Luffy breaking his promise the promise to return the hat that is and I'm not wild about that argument because promises get broken all the time in one piece the action of declaring something does not set it in stone for example Ace proudly claims that Whitebeard would become the next pirate king

and well he he after that up didn't he and Luffy has certainly failed his own word on many other occasions but beyond that and this is going to sound weird but shank's dying may not necessarily break that promise to bring Marino's spawn back into things if that baby was belonging to a certain redhaired pirate then you could give the hat to the child as a way of returning it to Shanks I know it's kind of depressing and a bit meth but it is Paving the path for the future and setting up a new generation there

are definitely satisfactory ways out of this but the more compelling problem to me is just how obvious the shank's death seems I ran a poll on the channel and over 70% of people seem to believe that Shanks will die and that might not be in keeping with oda's unpredictable style something that seems so clear may actually be an opportunity to subvert that idea with a completely unexpected T so we shall see
