Video Transcript:
Hey guys, I'm Victão, founder of the social project Basquete pra Vida, player or basketball of Minas Tennis Club, and today I'm here in Minas, to do a video about Layups. First I would like to say a hi to the UUII Thug Life to all the guys there, really good people so, we are together. I'm in the company of my great friend, Victor Nebies talk to us, Victor, something about your story, how did you met basketball, were you already played.
All good folks. So. .
. I started to play basketball in the school, when I was twelve years old. I used to play in Santa Maria.
So I started in the school, and then I went to Ginástico, my first club were I started to play real basketball. And then I started to compete in the metropolitanos championships, frequently against Victão. Got him beated.
After Ginastico I went to Olimpico. I think I was four years at Ginastico. For Olimpico I stayed a good bit too.
I went to USA, stayed for a bit and played for six months in Arizona, Phoenix and then I came here to the Minas (Tennis Club). and has been I year that I am here. That's it.
Well, Layup is nothing more than that an definition and a displacement. It is executed with two rhythmic steps coordinated with a arm movement in to the hoop direction Is important to remember that there are a lot of types of layups, advanced types, but is very important to dominate this simple layup first, before you do this other crazy tipes of layups Well, I will ask him to do some layups and then we will separate the explanation in two parts: The practical one. And the work with the legs in the layup is a fundamental part as the finalization with the arm.
So let's go. So, in the layup you execute two rhythmic steps Starting with the leg you want finalize with. Example: If you want finalize with your left leg you go left, right and then left.
Now show them. left, right, point. Now with that the leg part is good to go we go to the arm finalization The arm finalization is very important when you are starting.
Specially when you are younger, and doesn't have strenght to cruze, to start to do the jumpshot movement. The important is to you finalize the movement with your leg Your hand up there to have a bigger reach. Finalize with the jumpshot movement.
But this layup a lot of the times it doesnt gets executed 100% of the times. Sometimes watching NBA and NBB you see lot of players doing the layup from under. As the player gets more skilled is good to add this kind of layup in their repertoire.
that is a finalization from under. One that the player comes with the ball and do a movement of offering because of this: layup. Well, the layup, initially can look very difficult.
but with train and automatisation it becomes very natural. I will show you a training, that was teached by my friend Alan when he was younger, of automatisation of the layup. To this automatisation training is important to do a movement of triple threat compared with you feet.
and start the layup still, doing right, left and right; in this case you are starting with the right. Right, left, right. In this way, as you are doing, the movement becomes more natural.
For the ones, you can have some dificulties, maybe change the legs, or your step, but as you train you get better. Well, now the next level of this automatisation is for you to do a dribble with the same hand of the definition. Count differently from the start of your steps.
Like that: Right, left, layup. In that way, as you do this training the layup becomes natural. Getting out in the form of a game.
Drbbling and going to a definition. Now, the most advanced thing in this automatisation work, Is getting out of a problematic game situation. So, you are dribbling.
When you are dribbling, you cut and goes to the hoop. And do a point in this way, that you realise the movement gets more natural And as you train it gets easier, and easier. Until it's a routine.
And without a problem. Is also very important that you to remember of protecting the ball. The ones that are starting, young folks, sometimes because didn't got that trick, it's very important to protect the ball in the moment of the definition Specially when you are playing.
with defense and everything. And after you domine that this automatisation of the layup is very important to protect the ball in the time of the layup, and in the steps and define like that. And now our friend will demonstrate a little of this.
And that's it, we are together. Well, this was the demonstration and the video guys. I wish you like it.
If you did Give your likes, opinions and subscribe. That we are going to post more information about our dear Basketball. If you like this video, whay don't we do a video about advanced layups?
showing some of the standard used by James Harden, Kyrie Irving, who knows? So that's it guys. Follow us there in instagram, follow Victor also Tell them your Instagram.
@victorrnebias That's it. Thank you, we are together. Ball is life.
